FoodRe: What is the true situation of rice in Nigeria? How much does it cost? by ivolt:
When we tell some people that local production by itself have little effect on price of some goods.
They will never agree.

If not for the border closure, foreign rice would have been cheaper than local ones.
Cement price did not go down due to local production but they blame Dangote's monopoly
even though it is not really a monopoly.

Is there also a local rice monopoly?

There is only one way to bring down the price of goods, reduce production cost when possible.

See above.

They do but, their corruption is curtailed under one dictate UNLIKE 9ja Democracy where it's a corruption buffet for all State Governors, Senators, House of Rep. Etc... angry
Yet, Abacha accumulated more wealth than all its civilian predecessors and successors combined.
I think our main problem is poor education, that is why an illiterate will promise to fight corruption
and majority will queue behind him without asking questions.

I'm certain twetking for tinubu is keeping you away from hunger with 30k per month.
the twerker. grin
Since you have decided to be useless with your life.
There is nothing anyone can do to help you.
But remember, as every day goes by, you grow older in failure.

It will be a shame that by the time you hit 50, the only thing you will be able to point
at is seeking attentions of strangers online.

I really hope you don't have parents because I really pity them for wasting their investment.
Imagine waiting on this thing in their old age.
Isn't it better to be childless.

PoliticsRe: Why ECOWAS Should Tread With Caution On Niger. Opinion by ivolt: 7:17pm On Aug 11, 2023
1. Since you put "if", it shouldn't have been there at all. So no response to this.

2. It is not an Ecowas vs Niger war. It is Ecowas vs coup plotters. This is not the first
time Ecowas is removing head of states that have local support.

3. Failure to act will guarantee a civil war in the near future. Also, there will be permanent arm sanction
against the junta which will weaken it in its fight with various jihadist and rebel groups. More arms will
flow into Nigeria
I think the lack of political knowledge about Niger Republic
is leading to erroneous conclusion your part. Rise of ISIS was a protest against the Shiite government of Iraq. ISIS
got destroyed when a political settlement was reached.
Sudan is currently fighting a civil war despite no action against the coup plotters.

4. US mission in Afghanistan is to punish the entrenched Taliban government, occupy the country, and "civilise" the populace.
In short, it was an ideological war.
Ecowas mission is to simply remove coup plotters who have been in power for days and replace
them with civilian government which have been in power for years.
You are confusing regular army with ideological warlords.
When Niger capital falls, all the national army will pledge their allegiance to the new Chief of Army Staff.
PoliticsRe: Niger Coup: What Support Has US And France Given To Ecowas ? by ivolt: 7:13pm On Aug 11, 2023
All these beggars.
What's the business of US and France in a regional resolution?
Many of you kids think Niger is about France.

Go and figure out why Burkina Faso and Mali are publicly supporting Niger.
Perhaps, you will understand other Ecowas members position.

Baba, just admit that management acumen differs from person to person, brains are not like factory products that are similar. There are people who can end subsidy with very minimal impacts on people.
There is no such person.
I don't expect you to agree as some aspects of Economics are complicated or counterintuitive.
No matter how smart you are, you can neither fight nor beat market principles.

You know it, but will just be arguing foe the sake of arguing.
Why will I argue for argument sake?
The difference between us is that I don't believe in magic.
In my world, actions have consequence.

DrGoodman:
Load of rubbish 🗑

Some candidate with sense promised to remove subsidy but didn't tell you how, a crook steal the mandate and steals the subsidy removal, but couldn't steal the knowledge to do it right.

That is the current problem.
Stop being fooled by politicians.
There is no way to do it right. There is no magic anywhere.

Even if you increase workers salary, majority of Nigerians aren't government workers.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that when you remove subsidy, the price
of everything goes up.

Philip Shaibu has committed the worst political blunder of his life.
So what are you going to do about it?
PoliticsRe: As Nigerians, What Have We Benefited From Removal Of Fuel Subsidy? by ivolt: 6:15pm On Aug 11, 2023
What kind of question is this?
This is like asking what a worker benefits from being sacked.
When all the top candidates promised to remove subsidy during campaign, Nigerians
pretended like they didn't hear.
Some supported it and the media also championed it as fight against "corruption".

When subsidy was removed, they call it bravery.

It is too late to cry now.
Even if there is a new election, most people will likely vote for a candidate
that promises to hike petrol price as long as they "corruption".

I don't see it as being anybody's puppet, but doing the right thing the wrong way. Instead of threatening to chase the Nigerien junta out of power, why not reach an agreement with him on the number of days he will be in power and conduct a fresh election? Afterwards, he will step aside and allow another civilian government continue.

My biggest concern is that Nigeriens seem to like what happened, which begs the question, "What type of government do the people really want?" The truth is, as far as West Africa is concerned, it seems military rule works better. In fact, the best projects we have in Nigeria were done under the military.
When will you guys stop fixating about projects?

BTW, the "people" don't love the military.
They love the military or civilian who belong to their ethnic group.

Stop spreading misinformation.
Niger Republic is already damming the river before the coup since 2019.
Now the construction have been stopped due to sanctions.

PoliticsRe: Warning: Niger Republic Will Dam River Niger And Nigeria Will Lose Reputation by ivolt: 2:23pm On Aug 10, 2023
BLACKPRIEST:
You're embarrassingly wrong about the highlighted. That date you're referring to is probably when Shehu Garba explained to Nigerians, through the media, the importance of that Nigeria-Niger electricity pact.

The Kandadji dam started in 2019 and is projected to end in 2026. The ousted president hasn't done much in this regard beyond visiting the project site; hence, It hasn't progressed.

Niger's civil government has, in the past, had meetings and discussions with a previous Nigeria minister of power on how to handle issues that concerning the project. I know about one of the meetings.

Because of Tinubu's carelessness, Niger's new government may not hold discussions. I'm concerned about the implications for us. I'm from a region of the country that'll likely be affected.

You're lucky I answered you.
This thread is a misinformation thread aim to arrogate some leverage to the junta which they don't have.
My response merely demonstrate that damning the river predates any move of the coup plotter.

Let me make it simpler for you.

This is just like threatening to jail someone who is already serving a life sentence.
Does it make sense to you to start nitpicking about whether the person has spent
2 years or 4 years in jail?

All things being equal, Niger will not stop constructing the dam, coup or no coup.

If Nigeria really don't want the damn constructed, there are subversive methods to halt the project
indefinitely.

Next time, read to understand so you don't embarrass yourself.
BTW, you are not special!

Foreign AffairsRe: Niger Rulers Accuse France Of Freeing ‘Terrorists’, Air Space Breach by ivolt: 9:31am On Aug 10, 2023
Excuses and Excuses.
Even the "16 years of PDP" excuse eventually expired.

These ones took power with zero plans on how to run the government
Instead of the coupists to expel French troops immediately,
they kept them around so they can be blamed for anything that goes wrong.

They should have learnt from Mali, that excuses don't work forever.
I won't be surprised if they blame France for lack of rain in Niger.
Very soon, Nigeriens will get tired of
blaming France for everything and realise that the buffoon in military uniform
have nothing to offer.

Most sanctions imposed on niger by nigeria have being an own goal. We end up hurting ourselves than them. They are parts and parcel of northern nigeria. touch them, you touch nigeria.
Worst off, they are already poor, these sanctions hardly get at them rather it bounces back on us.
I am not surprised because like most people, you have no idea how economies work.
