goofie: u dont actually pound it.u jst turn d pestle round and round on the beans lightly to remove d back. i cook moimoi wit smoked fish, crafish, or i use corned beef, raw eggs, chopped liver, etc. love it!
You know this your method of (rolling the pestle on it for a while without truly grinding it) is the same as the "Grind it/break it down a bit" with blender method that i use to remove the chaffs. In the absence of blender I use your method, that is the method Momma taught me.

I can't wait to try that, it sure will be very yummistic. I've only added cut-up boiled eggs, meat, fish, corn beef, carrots etc but not raw egg.
FoodRe: Moin-Moin Lovers, Come In Here! by Ivynwa(f): 7:33pm On Mar 16, 2013
Mr Fhemmy that your moin moin look so orange coloured, did they grind in pumpkin in it? If not then perhaps it has plenty curry powder or the tomato used therein are the unripe tomatoes. grin No vex-o-o just saying, apart from that it does look inviting but moin moins with that colour are hard to come by. It's always pink/tomato coloured and lovely. Omo we Nigerians like and eat so much plenty tomato that after eating all that tomato sauce/stew and tomato based food I don't want any piece of tomato in my sandwich again, I always remove fresh tomato from my sandwich telling myself "I eat enough of that already" lol besides I find tomato too acidic even when one can't resist it in stews etc.

I have a good way of quickly getting off chaffs from black eyed peas/beans. I grind it in a blender for a few seconds say 40 seconds to one minute while watching it to make sure that it doesn't blend and get saucy, in other words the blender will break the beans apart thereby tearing out the chaffs. I will pour it out and start removing the chaffs with plenty water poured inside it which makes the chaff to float and can easily run off while draining water from the beans.

You can use a grater to sieve the water if you have the time to pick up some that may want to run off with the chaffs etc. If you have to use this method you have to add additional beans to make up for a little beans that may be blended too fine and run off while sieving. The beans gets blended soft and saucy for the last time after all the chaffs have been removed.
HealthRe: Coping With Mental Illness In Nigeria: A Beautiful Writer's Experience by Ivynwa(f): 7:17pm On Mar 16, 2013
Claremont: I don't think this article does any justice whatsoever to the thorny subject of mental health. This article is more or less about the personality type of the writer, trying to make us believe that mental health is the crux of the issue here is an insult to those who really suffer from it.
What are you talking about Mister? Do you think that mental health is only about "Were", "Ndiara" and mad people?
This is why when some people commit suicide everybody is baffled because we deem ourselves very healthy mentally for the fact that we wear nice looking clothes and smile at everybody.
An unhappy person is not mentally healthy, a sorrowful person is not mentally healthy----these ones need us to reach out and be comforting them not tell them terrible things online or in real life.

Yeah, we all need to show more warmth to the unfortunate ones and not detest and deride them which is why I carry "a basket full of warmth in my heart" around.

Desola: shiatsu!

With talks like this, it seems my homeland would continue seeing an influx of your people except something is done to check that imbalance.

Why can't you people just stay in your villages? Why must you encroach us? We have the smallest state in Nigeria yet you lot want to suffocate us.

This Nigerian arrangement has to be reconsidered. I am just not happy with the daily influx. it worries me on end.
Oh dear, I understand how you feel. Sometimes I do think some foreign countries we Nigerians flock to feel like that too and i imagine what it will be like to feel encroached. It sure isn't a nice feeling. South Africans once felt like that over Zimbabweans in their country------. I wish I have a remedy for it so that you can feel better kiss kiss. Okay if you ever want to come chill in my country home back in the East. You are very welcome, it's real real unbelievably lovely there. By the way Onitsha has a good number of Nigerian westerners livin there too same thing with Aba and Enugu so relax a bit, we are all in the same country and don't need visa yet to live in any state we choose. Back in the nineties when i only go to Abuja to spend my school holidays, it had plenty westerners too much more now that everybody is in Abuja.

Saw this somewhere and even when I couldn't be bothered to open a thread, I made effort to grin.
It makes a little sense to me and if it helps save a life-----Oh well!
HealthHow To Survive A Heart Attack When Alone. by Ivynwa(op):
HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart

attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating

improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only

about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing

repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should

be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep

and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep

inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two

seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until

the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing

movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood

circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also

helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart

attack victims can get to a hospital. Tell as many

other people as possible about this. It could save

their lives!!

There's just something about Lagos that turns you into such a lagosian that you don't want to live in any other part of Nigeria but Lagos. We all love our country homes for sure and gets to live there sometimes but Lagos gives you this "citizen of Lagos" feeling grin that you can't help choosing it as your "work-based city" to live in after your country home/hometown of course. I had an Akwa Ibom roommate that was born and bred in Lagos, she's so so Yoruba (can't even speak her language but Yoruba)that I wasn't surprised when she married a yoruba. I mean Lagos sometimes strips some people of their locality and even language, many families from other states that live in Lagos are still struggling to teach their children their local language and these kids blow yoruba without much ado, lol. I must be the only Lagosian that can't speak Yoruba.

I lived in Lagos for only 8 years before I left it, I was in Abuja some months ago and enjoying the beautiful sceneries and the all-improved Abuja, even with all the grandeur of some parts of Abuja I felt so "I-don't-belong-here" and only felt better when I entered Lagos again. It's all mad mad chaotic in some parts of Lagos yet one can't help but just like Lagos and its orishirishi. All the same, I love being Igbo too baaaad. I just love the Igbo language and the Igbo culture.

I simply like how Solange killed that natural hair look. Lovely!

FashionRe: Beauty Of Natural Hair Thread :) by Ivynwa(f): 5:35am On Mar 16, 2013
My signature weaves/weave-on is this Diana Rossy kinda weaves but not full full overly blown out like that of diana rossy. I normally use Premium deep wave weaves to get that look. I fix the weave (65 degree slant parting in the middle) and after a few days will break the weave into tiny tiny cascading curls and it will blow up and take that shape. It's another close to natural look I like much.

FashionRe: Beauty Of Natural Hair Thread :) by Ivynwa(f):
Meddler: My hurrrrrr.
Meddler your hair is lovely. Is it natural? or you just untwisted your retouched hair. I know that when I untwist my hair after removing a weave that I get such lovely cascading curls, I didn't know that a natural unretouched African hair can give such waves. I will like to know how you work that if that hair is unretouched okay.

aaanu: Bin rockin my natural for a year now n its fun n liberating
Aaanu you look natural and beautiful, I'm so loving our African natural hair right now.

@Darkie
That lovely hair you featured there (the one by the woman in purple) will look good on an African bride on her wedding day.

The short curls on the woman in the picture below use to be one of my favorites that I rocked during my university days. I cut my hair short, use a texturizer on it. When it dries I apply gel (it immediately gets curly) and part it 65 degree slanted in the middle of my head (you need to see the shape I give that hair) and I had this white shiny spray that I spot on a little patch to depict gray (cause I love gray hair grin). Girl,I so love that my unique look then. I also put on some african neck and wrist beads and when I dons one of my little pieces of campus wear that I made at home during the holidays my head of department can't help but call me a designer. Lol.
I should be that real African woman with some African hair (I've always loved natural African hair while growing up) and ethnic beaded earrings and neck pieces but white collar job took all that from me. I hope to get back that natural look I love very much.

Then you now made to also understand why some ladies here on Nairaland keeps telling me that I have guts.I mean now I know why ladies shy away from opening such topic. It is either they are not interested or they can't stand the insults that will come with it.

Meawhile did you say,'unkind words'?.*SMH*.

No man, those were not words, they are KNIVES!,You cut me through the heart.I was soooo weak, but a lot of people here, and a lot of things kept me going.

I will still repeat it,a man can never understand a woman 100%.You noticed missblanche crying, the way other ladies reached out to me,did you read Smartie gurl's comment?.I wish I can show you my inbox,so that you will understand what I am talking about.

So imagine, what the main victim did.Only a woman, and a few guys would understand the depth of those knife cuts you gave me.

Now you say,you are sorry?

pheeew!

Well what do you want me to say? No?,So that everybody here would say that am wicked.

I am very emotional, oldest members of the thread, can attest to that.Every thing I have said here on this thread,is very real.I rather keep my mouth shut, than write lies. What will I gain?

So for the interest of this thread,I will accept your apology but when I truly forgive you from the bottom of my heart, even a blind man will know.

Naturally,I sulk a lot,so it will take me a little time but trust me, things would be fine.

Please modify that post,it is heartbreaking.Write something else there(a joke,a poem,a response to a topic previously discussed),you know, just be creative.I think someone, quoted you ,please tell him to modify his, too.I will change mine too.Let us pretend it never happened and please don't do it again.

Moreover ,don't say that to a lady outside,it is murderous.

I want to blame all this on misunderstanding, please let's try to comprehend before responding.

We all must not agree but If you disagree with a particular point raised by someone ,do that peacefully.

Goodmorningsmiley
Oh Baby, I didn't realize you were that hurt. Sorry Sweetie.
We women are like that, tell her that she looks ugly and she will stare at the mirror and shed tears. Tell her that she is beautiful and she will be happy all over the place so why don't we keep telling them that they are beautiful and they will keep being happy all over the place. I like to compliment people a lot because the joy my compliments bring to them gives me greater joy. I compliment and watch the person walk away smiling and I take my joy in that moment knowing that just a word from me has lighted up the person's day.

I will be back to read through well and know wetin dey shele here lol.

PoliticsRe: Akpabio Defends Wedding Gifts To Tuface And Wife by Ivynwa(f): 6:00am On Mar 15, 2013
MAYOWAAK: Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State on Thursday rose in stout defence of his controversial wedding gifts to hip pop musician, Tuface Idibia, saying the gesture was to reward the musician’s wife for standing by her husband in the face of difficulties.

The governor had come under heavy criticism after he, on Friday, announced a gift of two brand new Toyota Prado SUVs to Tuface and his wife. He also reportedly promised to bankroll an all-expense paid trip for 29 delegates from the state to attend the white wedding of the couple fixed for Dubai, the United Arab Emirate on March 23.

Besides, he also hosted a lavish state dinner in honour of the couples and promised to rehabilitate the Eket-Ibeno Road ahead of the child dedication of Tuface and Annie.

But in a statement by his commissioner for information, Aniekan Umana, on Wednesday, Mr. Akpabio said he only approved a car, and not two, for the couple. He also said he only promised to sponsor 20, and not 29, wedding guests to Dubai for the couple’s white wedding.

The statement reads, “Following spurious and false speculations in the social media concerning the wedding gift by Governor Godswill Akpabio to Mrs. Annie Innocent Idibia, née Macaulay, I wish to state as follows:

“That the Governor of Akwa Ibom State Chief Godswill Akpabio, donated ONE Prado jeep to Mrs. Annie Innocent Idibia, nee Macaulay a daughter of Akwa Ibom State and renowned artist during her traditional marriage at Eket.

“That the State Governor as a token of support for the couple promised to fund the travelin expenses (economy return tickets) for ONLY TWENTY relatives of Mrs. Annie Idibia Macaulay to Dubai, where the couple have chosen to wed.

“That looking carefully at the surrounding events in perspective, Mrs. Annie Idibia, nee Macaulay is a daughter of Akwa Ibom State and the gift of a Prado SUV from her governor is only a gesture of love and goodwill. Her resolve to stand by her husband on his journey right from his days of youthful beginnings to stardom even in the face of challenges was commendable and a true attribute of the Akwa Ibom women.

“That It is however unbecoming that mischief makers and enemies of progress have decided to inflame the social media with incongruous reports that the State Government is sponsoring an

entourage of party supporters to the wedding in Dubai, when in fact the Government is only sponsoring the travel expenses of twenty of her family members at an estimated cost of roughly Three Million Naira (N3,000,000.00) only.

------------
They are now making Tuface, his baby mamas and Annie Macauley into a cindrella love story of "How Tuface passed through many tribulations/challenges and poor Annie was standing by his side like a true Akwa Ibom woman". Oh my God, that is so so laughable. Why defend and justify Tuface's father Abraham lifestyle when he was merely having affairs with these other ladies just like he had one with Annie. It's just his choice that he settled with her just like he would have settled with any of those women if he has chosen them. I just don't like it when some men impregnate some women, leave them with children and when they find better women that appeals more to them feel like they are the world's best studs and the other women they have impregnated get painted black and blue just like in the case of the man that was saying rubbish about his former marriage just because he wanted to marry the sexy Mercy Johnson. (I like the MJ actress though and isn't bad talking her in any way).

The governor is forgeting that right behind us all that Tuface may still get on lovey doveying with other women & even his baby mommas whenever he goes to play "father" to his children. I bet when he does that the governor will buy Macauley another Prado Jeep for standing by him in the face of "woman difficulties and challenges". He better find another good explanation to give his subjects instead of the flimsy one he is using.
