Besides, he was ripe with age. May he rest in peace! sad sad sad

@ otokx,
You haven't made any sense. Are you sure that Ibori didn't misappropriate the funds entrusted to his administration?

Even Lawrence Anini had sympathisers. If you want to take part in a discourse such as this, please please, avoid ad hominems. Only facts and good reasoning will justify your arguments.

Thank you.

PoliticsRe: Creating A Nigerian Welfare State by iykrion(m): 4:52pm On Dec 15, 2007
Obalende:
has the nigerian government never thought of creating a welfare state since independence- Nigerian Health Service (NHS), Poverty Allowances etc - and let sub optimal functioning be another issue.

An investor who put 100,000 in discovery fund in 2005 would have reaped 200,000 by 2007 (being low risk). why can't the government put 10billion and after two years, it becomes 20billion. and divide that sum per defined amount of population head below the povery line to better the masses. or use their own bonds or similar instruments.
Nice idea! I commend your resourcefulness

Obalende:
when Governors are driving with their convoys, don't they see the poor begging and at least give out some little funds.
Probably they think that the destitutes are engineers working for contruction companies grin grin
Obalende:
Does the Nigerian Government have common sense?
Common sense is not common with this set of people.

Obalende:
Do you think a Nigerian Welfare State will be actualized in the near future.
That should be our collective prayer.

i was glad that for once that we have a grauduate president. but his recent posturing is making me somewhat uncomfortable, his dictum of "rule of law" in as much as it is a relief from successive executive excesses makes mockery of leadership. his 7 point agenda is yet to be kickstarted. i wonder what he wanted from people like Kingibe. no hard feeling but i think that man has no business being in his govt from day one.
Anyway i hope he learns the rope quickly lest all the few economic gains we had under obj go down the drain.

Is Ambassador Babagana Kingibe that bad? Pray, tell me what he did that any politician worth his/her onioin wouldn't have done under the same circumstance.
PoliticsRe: E F C C Arrests Ayo Fayose, Impeached Ekiti State Governor by iykrion(m): 4:20pm On Dec 15, 2007
spora:
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose has been arrested by operatives of the EFCC.

He was picked up today by the EFCC operatives who will keep him in their custody until Monday when he will be flown to Kaduna, just like his brother-in-crime, Ibori, for trial.

Fayose is to face trial over alleged corruption. In addition to this, he will be charged by the Ekiti State DPP for alleged murder.
Fayose voluntarily presented himself to the EFCC. He visited EFCC's Ikoyi office in the company of his lawyer - Mr Alex Iziyon SAN.

My worry is that peolpe will still carry placards proclaiming his angelic innocence. Others will maintain that he is being victimised by his detractors. Na wah for us o!

PoliticsRe: Yaradua Is Confused? by iykrion(m): 2:18pm On Dec 15, 2007
McKren:
President Yaradua has not said anything new on the AFRICOM issue.

When he declared that Nigeria will not host or support the siting of AFRICOM anywhere within West Africa, he stated categorically that efforts at training is welcomed.
So in saying that Nigeria will partner Africom on security does not suggest anything new as this partnership could be in terms of military training and exchange of intelligence, it does not mean outright support for building of AFRICOM in Nigeria. To buttress this fact, Ojo Maduekwe the Foreign Minister stated categorically that Nigeria will not host Africom only yesterday you can not assume that Nigeria's foreign affairs minister is not aware of Nigeria's stance on this issue.

This is international diplomacy at work, while we need to look after our National interest we do not want to be unnecessary rivals with America because hate it or love it they play important role in global politics. However we should not play fool to them too.
What have you to say about the statement below?

The Chairman Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Ayogu Eze on Friday said President Umaru Yar’Adua must have weighed his options when he said Nigeria had accepted the establishment of a United States military command in Africa.

Eze said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent, in Abuja on Friday. He said although the details of the president’s action were not available, it was safe to say the president meant well.

He said, “I don’t have all the particulars for me to make a comment, but every assistance we can get to increase our military might, not only to protect our territorial integrity but also to increase our influence on the continent, I think it is a welcome development.

“I am sure the President considered what will best serve the interest of Nigeria and weighed the options before the decision was taken. You know the President cannot just commit Nigeria without weighing the options. I believe this is just the preliminary stages.

Eze noted that the Senate had a role to play in matters that had to do with committing Nigeria, especially militarily. He expressed confidence that the matter which was still at its pleminary stages would eventually get to the Senate at the appropriate time.

He also said it was too early to jump into conclusions over the issue since the President was still abroad and the details were still sketchy.

Well, I'm yet to see someone from your Kogi state fry in hot palm  oil. Not even Prince Audu who many of your kindred said stole several millions. In fact, you all trooped out to vote for him in the last election. But for the swift intervention of OBJ and his co-travellers, Audu would have been the lord of the manor once again in the steel state.

Anyways, as per Ibori, I'll just continue to watch as events unfolds.
Are you somehow related to Mamajama? Both of you sure have things in common - BLIND ARGUMENT! grin

I must say that your stance on this discourse, is at best shallow and at worst irresponsible. sad

Ibori is a big time thief and not a shadow. This is not the first time he stole, even before he became a governor, he was cought stealing building materials somewhere in Abuja. He was prosecuted, along the line people like you came out to defend him.

Please reason before you talk. Agabya!

Why can't we have a legislation demanding that any case handled by ICPC should not be touched by EFCC or CCB and vice versar or why can't we have a situation where ICPC engage in Proactive fight against corruption while EFCC is occupied in retroactive fight against corruption.

Why must it be a mergerhuhhuh??
WELL SAID.

In Nigeria, the law enforcement agencies are always reactive and punitive. They don't understand what it means to be proactive. They will aid crime so that they can benefit from the arrests, rather than prevent crime. Little wonder one sees them happy, parading suspects. They fail to realise that it is their inactions that bring about the crimes in the first place.

I pray he doesn't sail through with this his unimpressive and unnecessary reform sad.
EducationRe: NUC: Lecturers Must Obtain Doctorate Degree By 2009 by iykrion(m): 1:42pm On Dec 14, 2007
@Kobojunkie,
You seem to infer that the more one studies for higher degrees, the less oppurtunities available. Or better put, the less salary he/she gets.

From all you have written, it's clear that you don't even merit a First Degree sad. Infact, in your own world, a Diploma holder earns more than a Professor in the same field.

Why did you bother to go for the Master's degree -which I doubt- you have? I suggest you follow Revive's advice, so that, at least you may be revived.

Back to the topic, If Nigeria government doesn't encourage the expected PhD holders by way of good salary structures, they will certainly leave for 'greener' pastures, just like their predecessors.

This is no longer the age of one trying to die for his country.
PoliticsRe: Yaradua Is Confused? by iykrion(m): 12:23pm On Dec 14, 2007
Babasin,

Clapperclaw certainly can not help Nigeria now. People do contribute to the success of governments - citizens and non-citizens.

You have various media through which you can put forward your blueprint with respect to the growth and development of Nigeria, that is if you are concerned.

It is not heroic to do a research only on how a country is not moving forward. It is hypocrisy to find faults without profering solutions.

Cheers!

@semidaraeb dude are you in Nigeria at all?

Dude, do you even know how many gifts the IGP or his state commissioners get? GIFTS are legal in Nigeria.

I am not a public office holder or a public figure but I have over 5 legitimate lands gifted to me by people.
Ask BIGB1 how many Cows he was given back in 1990 for SALAH holiday.

once you have the power you don't need to spend a dime, people give you stuff.

I am done talking about this issue, SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE OR GO TO HELL iykrion , BIGB1

You have finally dug your grave with your own hands. Can you diffrentiate gifts from graft as regards sitting public servants? Your warped and myopic mind is indeed, irredeemable.

Why will people give those in power 'gifts', if not to curry one favour or the other? Why were you given lands? Please, go look for where you actually belong, because this forum is really for those who can reason properly.

Finally, try to reason before you strike your keyboards.

I can't help wondering if you interact with enlightened people on one-on-one basis at all. Do you? Of a truth I admire your desire to contribute to political discourse, but you see, it is not meant for every body. Will the sons of the wealthy Hausas be allowed to riot? Religion has done more harm than good to us in Nigeria.
EducationRe: NUC: Lecturers Must Obtain Doctorate Degree By 2009 by iykrion(m): 1:08am On Dec 13, 2007
With incentives such as research grants, allowances, good salaries, consistent exposures to seminars, symposia, talks, workshops inter alia, a first degree holder will do better than a professor who lacks all these.

Let the government stop chasing shadows and paying lip service to the education sector. A paper Phd will not salvage the Nigeria's dwindling education sector, but a brain Phd will.
PoliticsRe: Oluwole Demolished To Make Way For Shopping Center by iykrion(m): 12:54am On Dec 13, 2007
The government has to encourage enabling enviroment, so that the private sectors can create jobs which will inturn put these smart rogues out of business. Demolishing Oluwole will only affect their location and certainly not their illegal transactions.

The various governments in Nigeria always engage in punitive reforms instead of corrective ones. That is why they will rather demolish a settlement inhabited by poor people on the excuse that robbers use it as a hideout.

3. Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige OON (Onwa) - for breaking the bond of godfatherism in Anambra state.

How many times do you read newspapers, to read interviews done on Mike Adenuga? Has he ever come out to explicitly state how he came about his wealth? He may be using his wealth for development of the nation, but accountability beholds on him to be sincere and honest for once in life.
@mrpataki,
Please go through this statement of yours again, and tell me with every sincerity left in you, if you are being sensible at all. I will also advise that you read other versions of the news or better still, read the Attorney General's press statement on this issue, because the source where Mamajama got his story misqouted the Attorney General.

Finally, if 40% of wealthy Nigerians invested their wealth in Nigeria like Adenuga did, trust me you won't be in another man's country struggling to make ends meet.

Try to see the truth the way it is, and not the way it should be. There's nothing to suggest that Adenuga stole to become rich. He started very early in life, so let him enjoy the fruits of his labour in tranquility.
