PoliticsRe: If You Were Mr President Today,how Will You Handle Corruption by iykrion(m): 1:33am On Nov 01, 2007
oliky:
Just got thinking about this today,and i really wondered how a good leader would really deal with this issue of corruption.Guess corruption has eaten very deep into our nation and would probably need someone with a vision to really wipe it out to the minimum.So how will you handle corruption if you were Mr President.
I will borrow a leaf from China cool

@iykrion, it may please u to know that im sending this reply from my system in my office. when i say i reluctantly sent the cv to stellose box, i meant it, because im not unemployed, but if i need a better job, its not at all cost. i choose to apply wherever i choose to and if i don't feel like it, then i don't feel like it. everyone must not work in diamond or unity bank. so theres nothing hypocritical about it ok. grin
Many appologies if you felt I punctured your pride. I am indeed sorry. Why don't you try ETB, they pay well without any attachment to perfomance. Just that their recruitment procedure is somehow slow because of the absence of Otumba. All the same, it it worthwhile. Once again, do excuse my earlier comments.

PoliticsRe: Nigerian Build's His Helicopter! by iykrion(m): 11:00pm On Oct 24, 2007
Siena:
Maybe, maybe not.

Are you prepared to be a passenger in that helicopter, on it's "maiden flight"? grin You'll definitely be famous, and receive a lot of praise, imagine your name emblazoned up there for all the world to see! grin

All depends on if you're alive to see it. On a serious note, encouragement is one thing, in any shape or form, but who'd want to be a guinea pig? Not me! My life's way too precious to risk on an untested venture! shocked

It's one thing to be a passenger in a test car, the most that could happen is the brakes could fail, you may break a leg or too, but no big deal! grin grin grin But imagine a helicopter, at the best of times, they're a fair bit more dangerous than fixed-wing aircraft (aeroplanes). If their engine (s) fail, an experienced pilot could still do a crash landing, as long as the wing flaps are still working, the plane becomes a giant glider.

Engine failure in a helicopter is different - no wings to glide with, it'll drop like a stone! The only way is down, and all you'll see is earth rushing up to you! shocked shocked shocked
With necessary supports, financially and otherwise, he will deliver a safe helicopter for us all. This is just his first attempt. If this is improved upon, I bet in the next few years, a much better thing will emerge. Don't you think so?

stella whoever, you are just a little frustrated unemployed fool, you just dish out insults without knowing who you are doing it to, l have passed this your job-searching stage some 15 years ago, and only just helped a little niece send hers, you must be one of those bush girls from the east that just came to the city to see light. I don't give a flip what you did, people have done more, you don't have to rub it in, little brat, ugly idiot.

You asked people to send you their CVs , they asked to know if theirs was submitted, you asked them to check the thread and count 30 from there, did you tell them to attach it to the thread? if you did then why did you enclose your email address, l wonder what school you went to, must be one of those 6th generation high schools that call themselves universities.

stelly2me@yahoo.com, sorry i forgot to forward my e-mail address.
It's disheartening that after your 15yrs of working, you still rely on 'just a little frustrated unemployed fool' to help your niece out. Does this your action have any iota of wisdom? Why the ingratitude?

omena555:
@damkollins, i appreciate your advice. thanks. i wasnt really so interested in the cv thing. i actually reluctantly sent my cv to her box. all i wanted like the others was for her to give a list of those she submitted so everyone will know their position. and really if she has said she cldnt do that, it wouldnt have mattered at least she tried her best. but she prefered to shout everyone down! just because she submitted 30 cvs?? is she the first to do so? she can go to blazes for all i care. im getting off this sick thread. chao. grin
Reluctance towards getting a job? What a hypocrite you are!

Keep up the good work. God will reward you a zillion folds. cool

One could still try out a car made in Nigeria but to put a life in an helicopter made in Nigeria? God forbid! that thing takes all the lives in it if anything goes wrong. I can not forget the experience i had with EAS before it eventually took lots of life. The kind of maintainamce culture we have in Nigeria is below standard so one would be gambling with his life trying to fly on such locally made flying thing. Good luck to him and i wish him well in his career but i as a person will never fly the helicopter even for free.
A journey of a thousand miles starts with just one step. Orville and Wilbur Wright certainly started this way.

@Stellose
Please let the guy be! I fell strongly about the way you brought IGBO into this, his location does not really confer the IGBO status on him. Besides, you make it look like every Igbo without formal education is a cretin. I'm concerned because I am an Igbo. Also, you shouldn't have commented on the guy's sisters, they might be respectable people you know. Don't let your anger take over your emotions. You are a nice person.

I won't fail to commend your relentless effort employed in helping our unemployed folks, through your posts and even asking for their CVs. I am very impressed and will want to say a zillion thank you. I hope to meet you someday.

@bennygee,
Your post is no more than a pratfall.

PoliticsRe: Chief Obafemi Awolowo: National Hero Or Villain? by iykrion(m): 11:29pm On Oct 16, 2007
ogalanya:
from d onset, awolowo never believed in d nigerian project,
Hasn't he been vindicated by the today Nigeria? Is there actually anything like the Nigeria project? Is it not another hypocritical political theory used when devouring the national cake?
that was why he described nigeria as a 'geographical expression',
Is that not what Nigeria is in the real sense of it? Can you give a definition of Nigeria that is farther from his? Is Nigeria not a child of circumstance? Now that he is gone, have we agreed to be one?

among d three--awo, zik & ahmadu bello, only zik can be partially seen as a nationalist, though he did that 2 the detriment of his tribe (igbos).
Was there wisdom in that? What precisely is his memorabilia among his people (the Igbos) today?

remember ahmadu bello also defined nigeria as 'd mistake of 1914'.
How could I forget that? Even if I do, the result of his comment which has built a a strong Northern Hegemony today will always remind me of it.

@topic,
To me, Awo is a HERO. He was able to understand that nationalism is the love of one's own people. Sometimes, nationalism is not all about patriotism. Nigeria is only a nation-state. Awo was able to learn early enough that CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME!
PoliticsRe: African Ststesmen - Icons Or Pawns? by iykrion(m): 10:37pm On Oct 16, 2007
@all,
Strict concentration on the topic will surely do us a lot of good. This must not be a case of Davidylan vs ors. Nobody should equally be seen as lonely, stupid or a nuisance, etc. If people don't have different opinions on a particular issue, then there wouldn't be any need for debates.

@topic
I haven't seen any cogent reason behind the hoisting of Mandela's statute in the UK. His fame cannot be fanned by that. The British government must have their reasons anyway. As regards the illuminati stuff, I couldn't figure it out.

That the U.S. is corrupt is not a vindication for our corruption here in Naija. I felt bad yesternight after watching a documentary on Malaysia's economy which is just three years older than Nigeria. It's high time we started looking for those factors which can only motivate our drive for growth, rather consoling ourselves with situations that are rather faux pas angry

CultureRe: Why Are Nigerians So Abusive And Insulting? by iykrion(m): 12:06am On Oct 16, 2007
Compatriots,

Insults is not intrinsic in Nigerians. @Ifeanyi212 low level of education does not guarantee scruples. @Denex it is erronous to believe that conniption is a trait of Nigerians at home.

Nigerians are decent people who believe that mutual respect is a sine qua non for peaceful co-existence. It's just that, sometimes we allow our emotions to rule us. Having said this, we must also understand that sometimes, people on Nairaland post pixilated comments, which ordinarily shouldn't give any cause for alarm. I think we should always give room for people's facetious remarks.

We cannot forget in a hurry how the traditional Hausas venerate one another, is it the Yorubas, the Igbos and host of others? Scruples in an integral part of our culture.

Finally, ignoring an apparent insulting/disrespectful reply will do us a lot of good.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: I Need Your Advice by iykrion(m): 4:12pm On Oct 14, 2007
Sounds very unfortunate, without the NYSC discharge cert. it will be practically impossible for you to work in any good corporate organistion here in Naija.

Why don't you talk it over with your employer? Perhaps they might see reasons with you to come back after your service year.

Another way is applying for exemption cert. from the NYSC, that is if you don't want to compromise your present job.
Good luck
Jobs/VacanciesRe: I Need Your Advice by iykrion(m): 2:00pm On Oct 14, 2007
You can serve in your place of work. Don't you employ corps members? If you leave your work, you might not get it back, unless you have an agreement with your employer.

Think about it.
PoliticsRe: Behold Nigeria’s Silver Spoons In The North! (Part 1) by iykrion(m): 1:45pm On Oct 14, 2007
davidylan:
This topic would be more apt if it read - Behold Nigeria's public treasure in the North!

this are not children of parents who built their wealth on the backs of hardwork, one thing is common among them all, they are offspring of those who have had the opportunity to dip their fat fingers in Nigeria's pot of oil.
Oho! That's what we suffer here in Naija - glorification of wealth acquired through foul means. I wonder how people think!
