yewit37486: I remember this story very well, the guy was shedding 'crocodile' tears after he was arrested. Too many Nigerians are lawless, and it all boils down to the lack of consequence. Oyinbo man follows rules because he knows the consequences if he doesn't, from tickets to fines to jail terms.
BlueRayDick: Even me, company-oned car carry me face one-way , then I saw road safety ahead. I thought the driver will get arrested and he will be reprimanded when he gets to the office when they find out he was arrested on one-way.
To my surprise the road safety guys didn't stop him. I then asked if they don't arrest them for one-way in PH ni? He looked at me confused and there I got my answer. Like it is normal thing to do for them.
If it were to be Lagos ehn, the kind query he will collect after government ask for N150k to release the vehicle after arrest lasan.
BlueRayDick: The way people always drive one-way in Port Harcourt dey always muse me. As a Lagos boy, I'm always in awe when I see their chaotic driving and always wonder if they don't have any agency like LASTMA that can arrest motorists doing that. The crazy thing is they even do it on some of those new Wike roads
Port Harcourt is the worst
Once they spend one second in traffic, everybody don enter one way
I was there last month, and I couldn't understand the level of lawlessness.
iamoyindamola: We keep saying it police need overhaul and mental evaluation in this country, maybe until one of these politician families are affected Is the man stupid? Yes very stupid but did he cause his son's death fvck No Maybe if he had accident in process then we can insult him and say justice served No one deserves to die in an accidental discharge situation because I haven't seen what warrant shooting in this situation The man will go to jail but that police shouldn't see daylight either
True.
Shebi all these things would have been avoided if the man did not pass one way?
DeadPresidents: In my opinion, getting a drivers license in Naija is too easy and commuters don’t think about the consequences of poor driving
I was perplexed when i learnt then you could get a drivers license without even showing up for a test if you knew the right people.
Where i live, by the time you spend half a Disstroy luxury vehicle for your license, you’ll think twice before engaging in any skullduggery
Nigerians are highly disorderly.
What will it take him to go and use the appropriate U turn?
In Benin Republic, every bike rider must use a helmet. Every passenger must use a helmet. If you don't want to wear the helmet, the bike rider will not carry you. He doesn't need a policeman to even be there. You either wear it or fcck off.
I'm sure the man will be regretting his choice.
iamoyindamola: The same video Where did he have the intent to kill, person that is trying to get out of the situation Moreover the police kept on pulling him out of his car while in motion If that was soldier they won’t shoot but pursue him
You are playing, my guy.
Get out of what situation?
His luck is that it is Oyo. If it was Lagos, and even without any shooting, the trial na attempted murder.
iamoyindamola: There’s no benefit of doubt here Highest offense in road is manslaughter and no law give the police to take laws into their own hands These people are too trigger happy
For someone that wants to kill me?
Dey play.
If a Soldier stops you, don't stop. Anything wey you see, make you take am.
iamoyindamola: Bros all these and more Show me where in the law it warrant shooting Just show me Even armed robber can’t be shot at after surrendering else that’s man slaughter
So if that man was shot, and they found 5 human heads in his car, I am sure your tone will change.
The man gave them every doubt to do so. Why would he be willing to hit officers after he has been stopped?
If you are a Police officer, and you flag a car down, and he refused to stop. Rather, he faces the car towards you to kill you, what would you do?
I am not justifying the shooting, but he threw every iota of doubt away.
BlueRayDick: Definietly, ewon na prison! If u do the crime, u do the time.
I hate people following one-way with passion. I nearly lost a friend to a useless keke NAPEP that hit hi from behind while driving recklessly on one-way
I don't like people who don't think; Who do not care if lives are lost, as long as they have their way.
You have been busted for one way. Why try to climb anybody so you can pass?
Those officers have a family. So they should die, so you can evade 50k? What kind of inconsiderate person is that?
BlueRayDick: The shooting was wrong, they should have pursued him. There's no way he will outrun them with that hos small car vs their rugged pickup patrol van. There's no justification for the man's behaviour and there's no justification for the shooting as well.
I am not justifying the shooting. I am simply saying the man gave the officers that doubt.
To show you how stupid he is, the money he will spend fixing his car, would be more than the money he would have paid as a fine.
BlueRayDick: They may or may not proceed with his prosecution. Remember how the Oyo state government was all gased up to prosecute Oriyomi Hamzat , Ooni's former queen and the school principal over the botched giveaway that led to loss of lives? You know they eventually withdrew the case against them and they were all discharged & acquitted eventually.
Same may happen here.
This man fit no get levels nau
iamoyindamola: Does that offense warrant shooting Yes or No?
There is more than one offence there.
Firstly, it was one way. He was stopped, refused to stopped, and drove his car recklessly with the intent to kill an officer, not forgetting damaging vehicles on the way.
So, which one gan gan you wan actually defend the man with?
BlueRayDick: Yes, the man is stupid and the police should've given him a pursuit at least instead of shooting directly at the car.
I doubt if the state government will still not go ahead to prosecute him with this video evidence. Except they just want to let him off the hook for him to grieve
He will still be prosecuted.
The officer would probably be dismissed, but baba go still chop him own.
GloriousGbola: Driving one way is a traffic offence. A traffic offence is not a capital crime unless someone is killed. Las Las you get the license plate and follow up afterwards.
The police are a completely wasted institution. You will observe that the traffic control guys are in shock, but the police literally do not care. All they want to do is leave. They have done far worse than this with no repercussions.
And of course no one in this mess is was really concerned about the rule of law - it was just a shakedown exercise for them. They probably did think the people in the car were yahoo boys.
The moment he began driving recklessly to kill anyone on his way, after being stopped, the matter escalated from one way.
If he was caught, there's no way his charge would just be a one way offence. Attempted murder would be added.
Without prejudice I think the father as the police officer who shot the guy have 50% blame Each for the death of the boy .
The man passing one-way is totally wrong , evading arrest and endangering the lives of other road users while trying to evade arrest is also a crime .
However , the policeman firing a direct shot at the man’s car should also be tried for manslaughter . How do u shoot directly at a car simply because the driver won’t stop ? What happens to getting his plate number to effect his arrest later ?
As much as it sounds vague, even in the Almighty USA, dem go pursue you the moment you refuse to stop. Even if you kill two people while running, dem go still dey pursue you
Also, the stupid man was already willing to crush police officers when he was stopped. You saw how he was driving recklessly to escape. One would think he was carrying something suspicious
The officer obviously would answer to opening fire, but the man already gave everyone the intention that he was dangerous.
Let's be real, even if I own a 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-Class worth N15mill, I can still call it a luxury/premium sedan. But, let's not kid ourselves, bragging about it might just attract some bashing due to its age. Cars value and prestige diminish over time. And honestly, with ₦15 million, you won't find a brand-new premium brand, let alone luxury.
A very good way to approach the discourse.
An S class is a luxury Merc, but 15 years is too far.
I also believe that the S class is undervalued in Nigeria, probably because of its resale value (or maybe it has some technicality that our Kazeems cannot handle)
Because how can a GLK be commanding more than an S class?
Saladdin: I can't give you a yes or no answer because the question cannot be fully answered in a binary way, so don't try to box me into a corner here.
My point is luxury is contextual, and ANYTHING you cannot easily afford at any point in time is a luxury to you regardless of it's worth be it 1k or 1bn.
Yes there are certain items which everyone considers true luxury, but the term itself is very subjective and determined by so many things like: education, income status, social/peer group etc.
For instance, you earn 5M monthly, a 2010 Toyota Camry would feel like a basic car to you because you can easily afford it. While a 2017 Mercedes will feel like a luxury to you.
For someone earning 150k that same 2010 Camry would definitely feel like a luxury to them because they can't easily afford it with their income.
In another instance, someone earning north of 70M monthly, A 2017 Mercedes would look like a regular car to them, but a 2025 Range Rover would be a luxury to them.
Hope you get the context? What is basic to you is luxury to another and vice versa.
So it is well within point, given Nigeria's terrible economic condition to say that a 15M car is a "luxury" to most of the population, and aside a top-tiered career, sought-after freelancer earning in hard currency, a thriving businessperson (all of which represent a tiny % of the population) most cannot afford it without engaging in unsavoury things (e.g stealing public funds, wire fraud, high-class escort etc) to buy it.
I hope your question is answered.
No sir. You didn't answer anything, and you know it.
You previously agreed that luxury is relative, and 15 million can buy a luxury vehicle; Very okay by me.
So, do you know any luxury vehicle that can be bought for 15 million naira?
Yes or No?
Extra tip: You can convert it to dollars and then search in other countries too.
Fadedvoiced: As in why the need for plenty capping. Tell us the model and year of the luxury car being sold for 15m. Is it that hard? We won't allow any form of gaslighting here. Baba wan turn raumdeuter but him Amala turning still dey learn work.
I am sure he will let us know
Saladdin: My Oga, while you're right that things are now very costly, DissTroy is also right that most Nigerians do not earn up to 2M monthly. And I agree with him that luxury is contextual. Anything your income cannot afford is a luxury.
Also, Abuja should never be compared to other parts of Nigeria. Prices of cars there are overinflated. Besides do you know how many years some cars spend on the stand before sales?
Do you know any luxury car that is 15 million naira?
