larride: They are mainly excuses.
Who has been paying all these allowances before? Was it not the same government? Or where are they getting those allowances from? IPPIS is just a mechanism to pay them, it doesn’t stop their salary or allowances. If the military can enroll on IPPIS, what’s ASUU?
The thing is, the large % of them are receiving salary from 2 or more different universities which will no longer be possible on IPPIS. He stated that there was no provision for those allowances in IPPIS. As much as I hate ASUU, let's look at it objectively too If the government would introduce a system that would not include some of their benefits which should be provided, is it wrong for them to react? |

Below is what my friend who happens to be a lecturer wrote on the IPPIS issue in Facebook. (I had to crop out his name)
I hope u can read it with an open mind and understand what the stand of the lecturers are. Larride, what's your view on some of the points he raised here? |

Bigleaf1006: Bro,do u even Know how much it will cost you to even return a container to the port or even just going into the port to load?
Bros, the inflation in haulage prices is cost pull-the racketeering is the reason for this and the demand is still high.just go anywhere near apapa and see the number of trucks going in and coming out even as u sit at home locked down. To be sincere bros, it does not cost as much as 800k to move a container within Lagos Maybe there was a reason why that person spent so much. The contents maybe was contraband, or......many reasons sha But generally, it's not up to that |

Ofime123 My advice is just LEARN THE ROPES. I like the fact that you are not discouraged, but also remember that there are moments of failures, there are moments when you'll get burnt Don't be carried away by the profits just yet. IF IT WAS THAT EASY, EVERYBODY WILL BE DOING IT Truck business no easy, even if na one truck. Remember that the port is congested. It may take days to get to Tincan, and even come out. Remember the recession coming soon too. Importation may be slow from henceforth Just watch brother. And I hope you start a thread about it, so everyone can learn. And when the money start coming in, no forget to spray us |

Eizenburg: There would be diverse opinions on this. Like I said earlier, after 2 years, if both vehicles are still in “top” shape, I think a 50% depreciation estimate should be fine That means, pegging the estimate at 850k for corolla and 650k for the civic, the civic makes 200k more Also, we can also say that after the initial 12 months, the civic owner can afford another civic. That's still another way to look at it |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by izzou(m): 7:59pm On Apr 21, 2020 |
Eizenburg: That’s very subjective. Personally, I’d do my calculations with anything between 18 months and 24 months, with a 50% depreciation in the value of the car. Good Good So let's choose 24 months, and let's agree with an ideal situation Corolla - 1.7m Civic - 1.3m A corolla makes 700k, while a civic makes 1.1m So how much will be the resale value on both after two years? |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by izzou(m): 7:49pm On Apr 21, 2020 |
Eizenburg: I believe if you assume “good chemistry” like suggested, and maintenance does not go beyond the basics, at the end of the day, your ROI on both vehicles would be very similar. Mr Eizenburg, lemme ask you How many years do you think it's suitable for a Tokunboh car to be on Uber? |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by izzou(m): 7:42pm On Apr 21, 2020 |
rationalmind: No, you cannot keep resale value aside. You are not going to use the vehicle forever.
Eventually when you sell, the money you'll realise from the sale of the corolla will compensate for the "extra money" the civic made. Resale is relative, that's why you have to keep it aside There is no fixed price for resaleing. And there is no guarantee that it will be sold at that price Calculating it using a period (2 to 3 years) will show that the Corolla would yield lesser than a civic. |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by izzou(m): 7:36pm On Apr 21, 2020 |

rationalmind: As far as ROI goes with respect to a one year time frame, I don't think any car is better than the other.
Lets say we both decide to invest in Uber. I buy a corolla for 1.7m and it makes 1.3m at the end of the year. Let's say I sold the corolla for 1.2m. My profit is N800,000.
You buy a civic at N1.3m and recoup your money in a year. You can hardly sell your civic for more than N800,000 which is the same as my profit.
Note that I am assuming that the civic and corolla were trouble free and only needed routine maintenance through the year. Let's keep the issue of resale aside Cost price for the tools Corolla: 1.7 meeeellliiiooonn Civic: 1.3 meeeellliiiooonn Let's also assume that we have an ideal situation (Chemistry ) Every month, both makes 100k In 2 years, they made 2.4 meeeellliiiooonn It means the Corolla made a net of 700k, while the civic made a net of 1.1m Like I said, considering the purchase cost in relation to Uber pricing, the Corolla is now a wrong tool for the job |

Like sexy rightly mentioned, the only people that complains abiut the price are drivers on rental and those on HP reason being that their work hours has to be double to make a living and have a savings, otherwise, the business is a good one. We are still saying the same thing na The period to recoup your principal on a Corolla is more than a year, which is very bad |

sexylassie2: I understand now. These interstate drivers using sienna do they own their cars? I think many of them work for transport companies and prices is according to season, there is also wear and tear, fuel to buy, as you wrote earlier, having a fleet is profitable in the transport business. (Economic of scales)
I think most drivers will make more money if they are their own boss and price is not regulated and even if price is regulated, having like 2-3 cars will be a good advantage.
Anyway uber and taxify low price magic is through economic of scale, maybe drivers in the business should also learn that, even if you are using toyota corolla, saving up money to buy another car for the business is a good strategy of making money in the ehailing business. My comment was basically for partners (owners), not drivers Make we leave drivers fess |

sexylassie2: I am not an expert on cars but can we use the long distance guys as a clue? I don't think so, this guys are going interstate, a mini van like Siena with good fuel milage works better for them, but do you think a uber user will want to enter a sienna car (mini van)?
Anyway uber was created for comfort a sedan will be the best for the business but what type of sedan? This i dont know, since most drivers buy corolla, guessing maybe it is the right bet for them especially with our bad roads. The reality is most people will buy the most popular car being used for the business, it is just the group way of thinking but you can do your research on other brands of sedans that economize fuel, can be used in our terrain and with also low maintainance. Well, for the interstate partners, I think their expected returns is defined. Some charge #8500, #9000 to Abuja for example. So they know how many trips a week they need to achieve their target. And other predictive factors too. And that's why the Sienna still looks like the right tool. At an expected period, including periods for losses and maintenance, they will break even But in Uber, the partners don't determine the price. At one point, the fares were higher. Lately, the fares keep dropping. It's at this point, I feel the Corolla is no longer suitable (financially ) for this beeezinesss |
