Felicity0001: I love the way you and pope191 did justice to the question asked by peeps4u.
In addition, I would say it is imparative in the case of accident for both the driver and the owner to come together and work it out because to me the property belongs virtually to both parties since its creating income for both ends.
Not all owner partners have that much and as a matter of fact most of them depend on the weekly remittance to keep up with their family so it will be inhuman for anyone to be reckless or dont contribute incase of repairs that requires huge sum of money.
My opinion though I might be wrong. You're not wrong Firstly, the property belongs to the partner. You are just renting it for a week. Also, the only solution is to do a comprehensive insurance. But then, like you said, some partners can't really afford that. So that is why a driver must be careful. I'm young, but I must confess, most young guys driving on Uber are very reckless with the cars. There are some drivers that their hobby is to damage cars and dump partners Na only God go fit epp partners |

peeps4u: and all ogas I failed to mention, Incase of accident, assumed it is not the driver's fault, should the driver bear from the cost? I am curious to know.
Dru, this has nothing to do with your case as I dont know if the driver was at fault or not. So, please no name calling. First and foremost, when a partner gives you a car in good condition, you're expected to take care of it, and drop it in good condition too But life is unpredictable. In a case where the driver is involved in an accident that is clearly not his fault, I expect the driver to hold the "cause" responsible. Either they pay for the damage on the car, or you activate their third party cover(we talked about that sometime last year or two years) But in all, if a car is comprehensively insured,it takes care of everything. There's peace of mind, and also, the partner can still discipline the driver with ease In all, the driver is responsible for the car. So that's why as a driver -Dont overspeed -Stop dragging lanes with cars -Keep adequate distance between you and the car in front -Learn to drive defensively -Use your senses when overtaking. -Still pray for God's protection |

dru23: Out of transparency. This is my last explanation..... Now regardless insurance or no insurance it does not give drivers the right to be careless with my car .. After the accident happened, it was stated that he was at fault and he was assaulted for causing the accident. So the police now settle the matter that he should replace the bumper of the car he hit and the owner will pay for the windscreen.. So 15k naira was given to him ,but my total damage exceed 15k naira ..
Keep in mind the hood of the car will need to be replaced and painted .. Windscreen will be replace, wiper and wiper motor will need replacement .. So if you do the math the total cost will be at least 40k naira ....
Now if you look at the car below , you can tell that he was at fault 100%. There is no argument about it ,maybe he was dragging with another driver and between that he hit the car in front of him or something You know who's at fault by only looking at a picture? Well, you may be right, and you may be wrong From the picture you posted yesterday, the bumper, headlamp, grill and tip of the hood was perfect, so he didn't run into anything Likely cause? A Truck(Trailer, tanker, container, blah blah blah) Maybe he was stuck in traffic and the truck rolled back OR It could be a truck that was overloaded, and it's goods was protruding at the tail end. He probably ran into it or it rolled back Don't call me a fool again |

People sympathized and advised you to insure your car comprehensively
You said insurance companies in Nigeria are scammers

dru23: Again you miss my point.. Just because you have insurance does not give you authority to be careless with my property...... I will give another example, last year I got a driver via nairaland. The first day on the job he got into an accident. He called me about the accident and I told him to drop the car at the mechanic to fix ...
My mechanic called me and said looking at the damage the driver is at fault. I told the mechanic to fix the car and not release the car to driver.. Few days later driver called me and ask me if the car is ready or not ..
Few days after calling my mechanic tired ,he finally got the picture that he will no longer be wrking for me. The first day on the job he is already gotten to an accident. Does that show sign of seriousness at all You said Insurance in Nigeria is just like a scam. That's what I wanted to correct. No where did I say a driver should be careless with your car And if you had a comprehensive insurance on your car, you wouldn't have to spend anything to fix it. The insurance would have paid your mechanic |

dru23: My brother insurance companies in Nigeria is shitty, this is coming from a guy that leaves abroad.. The process it takes for them to answer your claim , you just give up ,and meanwhile you have to use your own money to sort it out till you get paid....
Bottom line... insurance company in Nigeria is a scam on its own. I dont depend on it . The process is so time consuming that you will be forced to give up ... From the bolded, I don't think you've used any insurance company here. Maybe you listen to all the bad reviews people dish out , to form your opinion Insurance companies in Nigeria have improved. AXA Mansard, Allianz, Leadway, Wapic are all good. We have seen people like slam.stan.lee change his side mirrors courtesy of his insurance. Even Gazzzz, on one of his rebuilding threads, had his insurance pay for the respraying of his car(Honda Accord) Please don't listen to roadside gossips. You own a car of 1.5 million. It's wiser to use a 100k max or lesser to insure it incase of any damage, as little as a broken side mirror. If you had insured that Elantra, the windshield and bonnets will be changed by the insurance. No arguements. Or if your driver was enlightened, he would have demanded for the third party cover of the person that caused the accident (that's if he wasn't at fault) Insurance is very vital in this business. Sometimes, it may not be a driver's fault, but other road users. I saw an accident where a truck cleared almost five vehicles and damaged them all. Anybody with comprehensive insurance will just go and sleep. Insure your cars sir. It's the wisest thing to do |

Felicity0001: Sir it seems you work with a reliable insurance company that's even if there's any. Let's assume you have, please tell us your experience with having a minor issue like this one Dru23 presently have or an accident leaving one of your headlamps bad plus damage on a 3rd party, how did your insurance company resolve the issue with you or for you?
Insurrance companies in Nigeria that looks for ways to deny customers when problem arises na him you won use compare insurrance abroad?
What can 5/10% of a property do to replace a car of 2/30m within the first 6months of insuring such property in case anything happens to it? Most if not all insurance companies in Nigeria are not reliable. I don't think you know anything about insurance |
