Sane - Sterling and bernando have not replicated their last season performance especially the lattter.

Laporte- Fernandinho has been an able deputy but it has also deprived city of his steel in midfield. The struggles of otamendi and stones are well documented I believe. Rodri who replaced Fernandinho at the base of the midfield is still finding his feet.

Zinchenko/ Mendy - Zinchenko came in as a result of Mendy's Injury and deputized well until his Injury and Angelino came in for him and has been suspect defensively. Mendy came in too and seems to have lost his pace and crossing that added to his defensive weakness beforehand.

Silva, Aguero have all had their spells out of the team. What you people don't understand about the style Pep uses is that it is a high risk system that requires all of the players in the system understanding their role and be able to execute it. Just one weakness is enough for the whole team to collapse.

Pep himself takes part of the blame the game against United for example playing such a high line against a team with pacy players built for counter and him knowing his defence was suspect was suicide as far as I know.

As for me, this year, you ask me to stop over I tell you we stop and start again. If you not too good with that, we end the trip there. Nothing like you will take me to a a place and bring me back. I let you know immediately you say that that we are doing 2 trips then. The second may even be offline so far you are not sure if you can get me back for the second try.

Stop over by passenger is a way they cheat us but it appears most drivers are not aware of this.

Injury to a team depends on
1. If you have sufficient replacement for that player
2. If the player's role is significant to the team's overarching game

City for e.g can survive without Aguero (albeit he is better than Jesus) simply because Jesus is not a huge dropoff on Aguero.

But Otamendi is a HUMONGOUS dropoff on Laporte and is solely responsible for 2 City losses this season.

Allison Becker and VVD are pivotal to Liverpool's game. They will draw and lose one or two games were one or the other is missing. If both, they will lose multiple games.

Salah, Mane are key but you can survive if one or the other is missing. The output will definitely reduce but a 1-0 win is still a win.

So part of City's frailties this season so far is not just injury but injuries to KEY components. Another reason is motivation. Motivation to churn out 30+ wins again.

In the years United won the EPL back to back to back, you can look at their collection of points: 79, 91, 80 and 89, 87, 90. Pep got 276 points in his first 3 seasons. Which is better than anything United did in that time frame.

This season, RM and Barca will have the same points as City and Leicester after 21 games and they are 1 and 2 in La Liga. So City are competing meaningfully regardless of a slightly dampened level of motivation.

The only issue is...Liverpool are performing well-above the mean that is clearly unsustainable. It also helps that they seemed to have enjoyed favors that could have created chinks in their armour.
