HP is a risk worth taking provided the driver is prudent with money and already knows his onions in this business. If one can always remit 25k weekly on rentals and still have earnings to himself, why cant he do HP for same amount when the car can become his after some period? In any week of low earnings, one can always dip into his savings to balance up.

I realise we dont like risks or entering legally backed agreement.

Like Izz advised, he should just be sure the car is in good shape. It is a bad business taking an HP car to mechanic everytime.
While I agree with you on the bolded, HP is much more than that

On rentals, the partner has a fair share(if not larger) of responsibilities concerning maintenance of the vehicle, but on HP, the Driver is solely responsible for everything.

If my compressor is bad on rentals, I call my partner. If it's bad on HP, I fix it myself and I must still remit that week

As Eizenburg said, the AGREEMENT is most important in HP. Even on rentals, before I ask you if your car is good, I must ask you your terms.

Also, it may not sound fair, but I think A DOWN PAYMENT for HP is best. It makes the period lesser, and also makes the goal more realistic for the driver

Most Nigerian used cars you see on HP started as Toks. But when one driver starts and he can't finish, he dumps it. Another picks it up, and the cycle continues

Having a down payment will help anyone entering HP.

It's just my opinion sha

I am yet to see the car boss... But from our conversation.. A guy was using it for uber before.. But he is always giving excuse weekly until the guy collected the car back... He told me 2.5m but I told him when I see it on Saturday.. We will discuss better.

2. Full time cos I plan doing it with my cleaning business.. Marketing as well to prospective riders .
2.5 million sounds good. It will take you above 18 months to buy the car, without any defaulting. The question is "Are you sure you can devote such period of your life for a car"?

Also, you'll need to be sure that the car is okay. Most partners are usually friendly from the start. But when you resume and you default, story changes. Make sure the car is okay oh. If one tyre is bad, let him replace it before you start. Stick to your agreement

Also, ask him to comprehensively insure the car. It's an HP package, and I don't pray for anything bad to happen, but if it does without you being on a comprehensive insurance,........
Tell him you need it to be insured comprehensively

I wish you well sir.

He Is yet to tell me the total cost... We will negotiate that today.. So I want to know the limit I should not exceed.. No down payment..

Plan is agree on price... And start paying weekly
Please don't be in a hurry to strike a deal. If today doesn't work, tomorrow still dey

Tell him to give you his conditions. If you need to be advised on anything, tell him you'll get back.

Please and please, don't rush to agree on anything unless you are sure and convinced

You didn't state
1) If it's a Nigerian used
2)How long you think you can commit yourself to this plan

Once again, don't rush to agree abeg

grin Let me explain myself before you crucify me grin grin.

I got a request inside Ikota Village Estate, picked rider without asking for destination, started trip and I saw IDIMU, I told rider that I dont think I can continue with the trip say I'm sorry.

Madam said do you want to end trip I said Yes Ma and quickly added that the 500 fare I will pay so she doesn't have to bother about that, I parked inside Mega Chicken parking lot and ended trip.

So I told her to wait in my car while she order for another ride, she couldn't due to network issue with her phone. At this point she was restless, saying she really needs to beat rush hour traffic yen yen yen, told her madam calm down let me order for you from my end, she agreed.

Pam pam I don order, driver called, he requested for destination, i told him. Bros say I'm sorry I cant go to that place, abeg cancel. Madam say why we they run from her destination, I just laughed, no give reply.

Madam come say make I put Airport road that she will find her way from there, good enough. Next driver accepted to go, he was just at the car park so it was fast and easy, madam left with the guy and all the while my car was idling with AC on.

After she left I went back online and request entered immediately, pick up Oando just after Mega Chicken, called rider and destination was Lekki, I was happy.

Time to leave the parking lot, engaged gear into R, gehgehgehgehgeh, car went off and it has not started since then.

As I no get energy to they find mechanic upandan inside sun, I leave am there enter inside Mega Chicken say make I relax, wrong move angry angry, I don buty catfish and Plantain Amala chop. I cant kill myself. tongue

Nice judgment, fantastic criticism and good understanding of the whole matter.

Just like you pointed out. Yes, it’s absolutely true she haven’t even seen half of her capital let alone profit, reason I feel so sorry and sad for her because the dealer that sold the car to her took advantage of her naivety and ignorance selling an accidented car to her. In addition to that the engine shorts oil, I checked for any leakage I couldn’t find.

Talking about using the car for family purpose, No! I won’t agree to that neither will I take any defense as well, as the engine was far below the gauge I’d to carry out emergency servicing that very morning because I couldn’t have driven the car all the way from abule egba to agor. After carrying out servicing off course I’ve to crack the engine and like I said my intention was to deliver the car to her when I return from family “waka”.
Ndo for all that happened. But I have some exceptions from your experience...Areas where you did wrong, or acted wrong.

PS: It's just my opinion bro. And no vex for however I put am

1) You went for a car. After negotiations, you discovered a fault. And the next time you went, you resumed work. Who does that? huh
You were supposed to test the car and ensure it was okay. Drive it with your partner inside. No need for assumptions. You made a mistake there

2)Secondly, always let your partner take their responsibilities. If she said you both were going to be using her mechanic, then stick to it. Don't suggest that you can handle it. Unless you both had that in the agreement

3) Trust is built and earned. When the car had a fault and she told you she wasn't around, the next thing you ought to do was PARK THE CAR IN HER HOUSE. That way, she knows you're truly serious and you did not work. But if you say the car has fault, and the car is in your compound, then.....

4) You told her you're returning her car, and then she asked you to give it to someone. What else are you waiting for? sad You didn't have to tell her all that. You know her house. Simply call her when you get to the person and let her speak with him/her, and the hand over the car and leave.

5) You shouldn't even have brought this experience to nairaland. She met you here. If ehailing didn't work for you both, doesn't mean something else won't. You have actually painted her as bad, which may not be the case

No vex for my comment oh. We learn everyday,
and it's just my opinion.

More blessings, brother

I'm not sure being a captain has anything to do with time spent in the club.

I don't know how the coach allocates it, but repeatedly, new players have gotten the band in football.... VVD is not the third oldest player in the squad

I'm sure if Ramos comes to United today, he'll be assistant captain at most. I don't know how's it's decided sha
