I've noticed they're the most afro-pessimist in all of Africa. Ironically, SA is very positive about Africa, which is why we always ask people to go back to their countries to develop them instead of running away.

No one knows and colonisation has had all of Africa believing it would've been failures without white intervention.

Please bear with me.

Firstly, if the whites didn't colonise South Africa there wouldn't be a country called the Union of South Africa. It would definitely had been smaller neighbouring nations with different levels of development - some successful and others not perhaps. Or it could have spanned a larger area than what it is today because as you know Shaka Zulu, for example, was on an expansionist mission at the time of colonisation, hence acquiring more wealth.

Secondly, considering that the SA economy was largely built on mineral resources, with some of the largest deposits in the world, those smaller hypothetical nations or the super-state would've been in full charge of those assets without the colonial hangover of low self-esteem and individualism (which is the root of the corruption and inefficiency now prevalent throughout the continent). Compare this possibility with Ethiopia which was never colonised but unfortunately lacks significant natural resources such as gold and diamonds as in SA, perhaps that's what has held them back for so long, but are finally finding their feet.

So basically, it's all just speculation, no one knows. There definitely wouldn't have been a Cape Town or Johannesburg, or maybe there would have been far better cities modelled on Southern African principles of Ubuntu, which are by nature socialist, which are fairer, maybe with or without skyscrapers. Or it couldve been scorched earth as a result of tribal feuds resulting from Shaka's violent antics.

I'm hesitant to paint a rosy picture but also that of doom and pathetic black people. No one knows the level of development "South Africa" would've have had without colonisation and apartheid because apart from the Western type way of thinking the whites also messed us up in a big way and derailed us from our own destined path.

There are many possibilities that should be explored instead of sheepingly accepting the indoctrination that Africa and especially South Africa would've sucked without white influence. Its the lazy option.
