The US the major buyer decided to produce shale gas using high tech equipments and this led to over production and saturated the market and just to make things worse the Saudis refused to beam down production all in an effort to bring Russia whose economy is oil dependent to the table to negotiate about the invasion of Crimea and their role in siding Iran over the war in Syria which Iran is being seen as a launching platform for Russia and the Saudis an America stooge of a country don't like it that a bitter neighbor and a Shiite country will have so much power and influence in that region call it common interest . And that was how small economies like Nigeria that are oil dependent came to her knees with little help from the incompetent one in Aso Rock to send her to her early grave.
