eugeneric: @amp, so sorry it was a mistake, i meant two weeks from day old chick. dats y am kinda worried that wen it gets to POL wont the feeding be times 3.
in that case you 600 chicks cannot finish 2 bags in one day.pls confirm from him very well
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 2:29pm On Jan 08, 2014
eugeneric: pls house, i desire advise. my 600 point of lay are arriving next week and my farm assistant is insisting that they will consume 2 bags a day as frm 2 weeks old. is that possible. pls i want opinions frm older hands so i can prepare myself or just forget the entire investment course the amount calculated per month on that estimate is discouragin
He is right bro, 600 POL wil take up to 2 bags or more than that. By POL I mean 16wks/18wks old
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 8:30pm On Jan 05, 2014
Nbg4real: specifically at what wk pls?
Before 14wks.
Can I get POL from AMO dis feb?
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 8:01pm On Jan 05, 2014
Rzq4: Amo has a very gud breed @stock(isa brown). Howeva, av seen sum farmers complainin abh dia management. A farmer very close to me lost almost all his birds in d first 4wks due to hatchery problem. Anoda farmer complain of marek disease wc cld be as a result of a vaccine failure. 4me i cant take d risk of bookin in dia farm cos i live very close to wia dia farm is located in ilora. Nbg, watsup?
Am surprised at this cos I heard Amo is better than animal care cos they hv parent stock while animal care buys from CHI.

Anyway people experience differs. Some might be lucky while others are not.both AMO and animal care are good

Nbg, debeaking should be done before the birds starts laying.debeaking will affect the birds production. If u have ur birds in cage, debeaking can be done once.

Cheers

Nbg4real: how far jamp, what percentage & have you change to layer ration?
Thanks brother, thank God the birds are picking up now.

The problem they had was malnutrition due to poor debeaking. I want to advice my fellow farmers to be careful of who they get to debeak their birds.
The debeaking was so bad that a flock of 1000 was eating one bag a day sometimes two bags a day for almost 3wks. To the Glory of God we are doing 8.1% now @21wks
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 9:32pm On Jan 04, 2014

Nbg4real: pls don‘t ignore me i used kerozine stove & battery torch light for heating and lightining respectvely. So i‘m thinking of using electric bulb for both purpose is it feasable?
Brother pls use charcoal, the heat from it is better. Buy head pan n pour the charcoal inside n place it on a block.ur pen space determine the number of head pans to buy.

BusinessRe: Is CBN Hoarding The Lesser Bills In The Economy? by jamp: 2:59pm On Dec 25, 2013
The scarcity of the lesser notes baffles me.most Banks in Abuja could not give mints to their customers. But the annoying part is that those mallams at Dei Dei Abuja have enough mint to sell n is very costly.

PoliticsZagga Mohammed slams National Assembly members by jamp(op):
Good morning huz, I saw this on a friends facebook wall and decided to share with u. The message is very clear. God help Nigeria.

I will never succumb to the cheap emotional blackmail of those who abuse me because they cannot reason objectively or because I refused to jump on the bandwagon of their sentiments. Who doesn't know that public hearings are extortion exercises? Who doesn't know budget defence are extortion exercises? Who doesn't know that the so-called oversight assignments are extortion exercises? What is the point preaching what you cannot practice? The tyranny of the legislature is no less obnoxious than the tyranny of the executive. Is it not tyranny that lawmakers should be paying themselves outrageously against the realities of the national economy and ravaging poverty of the masses? Is it not tyranny for lawmakers to selfishness pay themselves indefensible salaries in a country where some states are desperately struggling to pay the N18,000 minimum wage?

I have no obligation to please you. And you have no obligation to agree with me either. It is preposterous to claim that their salaries are legally backed. They abused their powers of legislation to fix outrageous salaries and allowances for themselves against what the revenue commission constitutionally recommended. If their salaries and allowances are morally and legally defensible, why are they denying Nigerians access to records of their pay? Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana, was repeatedly frustrated by the National Assembly service commission from getting access to their pay. Where in the world do lawmakers make laws to protect their advantages at the expense of the people? Contrary to your strange logic, there is a direct relationship between the heavy cost of maintaining political office holders, including the lawmakers, and the health of the national economy. It is also funny to accuse me me being compromised because I refused to defend hypocrisy. If one has to be paid to hold and express opinion, then how much were you paid to defend the hypocrisy of our lawmakers? Just because our views are not the same on the issue it does not give you right to abuse me. Don't cross the boundary of courtesy, please! I have the capacity to pay you back in your own coin of incivility. So please, address the issue rather than abusing me!

I hate pretence or the attempt to play on the intelligence of Nigerians by legislators whose greed is blinding. I disagree with those who suggest that we should ignore the messenger and focus on the message. Lawmakers who lack credibility should not come to the house of equity with dirty hands. If you say we should forget the messenger, are you suggesting that we should invite Farouk Lawan to deliver a lecture on corruption to our students? This democracy is too costly to the economy and the fat pays of our lawmakers is a major part of the problem. Their claim to superior morality and patriotism is irritating. If they truly love Nigerians, these lawmakers should be on a sitting allowance of N300 thousand per month! Hardly any of them would accept to return to the National Assembly if you place them on this amount per month. Their main attraction to the National Assembly job is because of the heavy pay it attracts. If their noise making is about patriotism, they won't be paying themselves these outrageous salaries and allowances when millions of ordinary Nigerians are economically gasping for breath. The relationship between the legislature and the executive should not be perceived in terms of good versus evil, with the former claiming superior morality and patriotism. Both arms of the government have failed us woefully. And that is the bottom line. Therefore, these questions are intended to fool us, to make us believe that the lawmakers love the masses better than members of the executive branch. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, the famous Indian sage, "In darkness, all colours seem alike."

edwill: hi every one, I need your help here. I have layers tha have been laying for about three years now. I gave all vacination but surprisingly they started dying they have this cracking or snorring sound (which make me to suspect chronic respiratory disease) with whitish/greenish dropping. which I think is a symptom of another disease. I have given antibiotics for a day but havent seen a noticeable improvement. pls what do I do?
3yrs old? Pls sell them n restock. If u still want to keep them then treat them as they ve respiratory disease. Most birds have the problem esp dis season.

Cheers

AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 12:39pm On Dec 16, 2013
@Gnwoko, the prices for the equipnent differs from state to state. Also there are different equipment used at different stages.

You have to raise d DOC on deep litter and move them to cage from 12-14 weeks.

The price for d cages differs too. There are foreign and locally made cages. Foreign ones goes for 85k-120k while local ones ranges from 45k-70k.

Rzq4: @jamp givin light all nyt is a very bad idea cos u tend to stress d metabolic system of d birds thereby causin metabolic disorder such as liver and kidney probs. U will also overfeed dem cos d more u giv light d more dey feed.My advice is to mak sure dey av atleast 14hrs day light period. U av got the best breed bro. @nbg wt ma experience frm my project work @ sch,d farm wia i worked and ma personal experience, birds reach dia max potential @30weeks(90percent n above). U may be lucky to get dat early. Also as u av done d vacc procedure, so do u continue on ur farm 4 subsequent stock cos u av introduced all d diseases prevented on ur farm.
Thanks bro, u ve a point there on the light issue.is 14hrs not small. Pls guys advice me before I mke serious mistake

I will advice u get a vet to do it or u learn it. U can't learn how to do it from the internet. Is pratical. That's my opinion

Nbg4real: @jamp what is d breed, d source &d feed for ur birds?
Good evening huz. Sorry I ve been quite for sometime.
Thank God I got my first egg today @18wks 3 days. I was so happy. So I hope see more from tomorow.

@Nbg4real, the vacination schedule u posted is too much. To me some are not necesary. My breed is Isa brown from CHI and I use Top feed.

My friend that got his pullets d same day wit me saw egg 2days before they clock 18wks,dis is cos he started giving them light in the evening on time thereby fforcing them to lay early which I heard is not good. I ve started giving them light in d night 7-9pm gradually I will introduce light all nite.

Thanks huz for ur support and advice esp Omotiti, obnelly n Fnk. Also to my news friends from kubwa.

We shall all get there
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 12:22pm On Dec 13, 2013
obnelly: Feeding grower mash up to 10% ! Next time change to layer mash when its 2%. I think you are the one delaying your production.its like you are forcing your layer to lay without given it the right feed.why you wait for the first set of eggs is to tell you that those layers are ready for eating layer mash.so next time don't wait till 10%.I use 2% .
Obnelly, i know u ve experience in poultry but the standard practice is to change to layers mash once u ve 5-10% production. 2% of 500 birds is 10, I tink is low.
Also I ve not gotten the questionaire for the bioreactor.
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 10:15pm On Dec 12, 2013
Rzq4: I tnk d 3 in 1 vaccine is only recommended prior to d onset of laying (4weeks b4). Dd u vaccinate dem during the laying period?
The vaccine was supposed to be given @14wks but cos we noticed they were sick so we postponed it.we gave them the vaccine @17wks. They ve not started laying
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 4:44pm On Dec 11, 2013
@Obnelly, so our bioreactor is finally ready. Thank God.I caled u sometime ago and u said u are still working on it.
Pls I need it for power generation. What is the associated cost for it as I need one for my farm.

Congrats once again
