Hello...Okay I'm a bit confused with some verses you quoted in relation to the topic but psalm 23 caught my eye. Yeah, we may lead ourselves into that valley but the next verse says "but thou hath with me". God is still with us.

And Psalm 51 was when David committed adultery. David, unlike us did not have the perfect Lamb of God that takes away all sins. According to the law, when you sin, God will distance Himself from you and the curses of the law befalls that person. We're under the new covenant with the blood of Jesus. Even when the people of Corinth sinned by commiting adultery and all that. Paul was supposed to tell them "because you have done this great sin before God, the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in you, cleanse yourself first and receive Him all over again". Nope. He simply reminded them of who and whose they were. That their body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It's still the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 6:3 says the Spirit of God won't put up with men for a very long time right? We in the new covenant, does that mean that there's a period of time God's Spirit will dwell in us and then depart forever since we have a mortal body? Well I think so. I believe when rapture takes place, the Spirit of God won't dwell on earth with those left behind (I dunno a Bible verse that supports this but I believe so). Not that the Spirit of God goes off and on. I mean, He said He'll never leave us nor forsake us, and my Dad doesn't lie.

This is what JWs think they believe. Here is the reality in simple concise way, all true Christians are conscious of their spiritual need. That is why they accepted to have faith in Jesus and his blood to cleanse their sins for salvation. Any body who believes in God, Jesus, bible, etc are conscious of their spiritual needs. The original greek word for Mt 3:3 means poor (beggar) in spirit. It shows the idea of a destitute condition where you depend on others to fill that need. In this case, an individual understands his destitute situation, in need of a higher assistance for salvation since all are sinners.

All JWs are conscious of their spiritual needs. That is why they pray, read the bible, beg for forgiveness of sins etc. Mt 5:3 says, those conscious of their spiritual needs are happy since the kingdom of the heavens belong to them. It is that simple. All baptized Christian are conscious of their spiritual needs.

I will keep this very simple. Mild tempered ones are happy because they will inherit the earth. Take note of these words, "inherit the earth" Mt 5:5, "belong to them" Mt 5:3. If I might ask you, who inherit what? Can a servant inherit what belongs to sons or daughters? No. Or in the context of Mt 5:3, can a servant claim ownership of what does not belong to them? Only sons and daughters own, inherits what, not servant or hired hands.

Here is my point. Mt 5:5 applied principally to Jesus and to his anointed brothers. (Most JWs quoting the passage are not aware of but it is there in their publications). As the preeminent mild-tempered one, it is Jesus whom God has appointed “as heir of all things”. It is to Jesus whom his father has willed to nations as “his inheritance, and the ends of the earth his possession”. (He 1:2, Ps 2:8 )

Jesus’ followers, by virtue of their faith in him and his blood, are adopted as sons of God. (Jn 1:12; 1 Jn 5:1-4; Ga 3:26) As sons, they are also heirs of God, joint heirs with Jesus (Ro 8:17). As joint heir, they share in his inheritance, including the earth, which belongs to Jehovah and which he has willed to his son (Ps 24:1; 1 Co 10:26).

So how can those who are not Christ brothers share in inheriting the earth? It is like asking, how can tenant (who are not related to the family) share in inheriting the properties? It simply is not possible, unless it has been willed to them. These are what JWs do not know. They cannot inherit the earth unless they are anointed ones, christ brothers.

Here is another interesting point. In my previous response, I had said that because of creating a false 2 class system, it has force them to exclude millions from the new covenant and Jesus mediating role. Now, it gets even more interesting. Take a survey into JWs publications, you will see that in their mention and trying to apply Mt 5:5 to those whom they say will live on earth, in each of such references, the inherit of Mt 5:5 is always enclosed in double quote. Why? Because the verse does not apply to the supposed earthly class but to Jesus and his anointed brothers, basically those going to heaven.



This another interesting verse but nothing in that verse suggest John is not going to be in heaven. Saying the least in my father's house is greater than those living in his property does not in anyway suggest they do not live in the said property. There is no where in Lu 7:28 (same with Mt 11:11) that say John is not going to heaven. He simply said the least in that Kingdom is greater than him.

You can also keep in mind that this was made about him at a time when John was still living and evidently as relating to his human life and career, what he was as a man. No human, no matter how great on earth, is equal to any of those forming Christ’s heavenly kingdom, possessing the likeness of their kingly Head. But the comparative inferiority of John’s human, earthly career, certainly would not preclude John’s becoming one of those in that heavenly kingdom. While that is so, it may well be that Jesus was actually focusing on quite a different aspect of matters, as indicated by the context, dealing with the matter of prophets. Even John’s work of preparing the way for Christ is not equal to the superior privilege of having accepted him, placing faith in, and bearing witness to, his death and resurrection as a Ransomer, etc. The JWs interpretation is heavily conditioned by circular reasoning and is simplistic, essentially ignoring the context and reality of the existing circumstances.

I want to believe that in your bible study with them, they never opened up verse like He 11:14-16 which specifically said those ancient servant of God will be in heaven as God had prepared a place for them. Or Mt 8:11 where Jesus was very specific that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would be in heaven? Or Re 19:1 which says multitudes are in heaven?



Yes. David did not ascend to heaven. Note the use of the past tense, "did" not "will" (future tense) It was true when it was written that David did not ascend. But in view of He 11:14-16; Mt 8:11; Re 19:1; Re 7:9-15, these people will be in heaven with Jesus.



These are what you learnt, you learnt them from JWs books, their doctrine, their beliefs. When you read the bible alone, you get a different perspective.

Here are the fact, there is nowhere in the bible where Jesus promised to make the earth into a paradise. Restoration prophecies where Judaism believes, and it was in relation to their homeland. Jesus death gives us everlasting life, that was what Adam lost and that was what he restored. In the bible, after their deliverance from Egypt, God had promised the Israelite that if they obeyed him, followed him, he was going to make them a kingdom of priest and a holy nation (Ex 19:3-6). Take note that this was a promised to be fulfilled at a future time predicated on their obedience to him.

This promise was never fulfilled as the nation of Israel (under the mosaic law) kept disobeying him. So God made plans for a new dispensation, a new covenant. This new covenant brought on many changes, no animal sacrifice, law of love, faith in Jesus leads to salvation not obedience to the mosaic law etc. How many Israelite would have been Kings and priest of God if they had been obedience and loyal? 100s of 1000s? Millions? Being a kingdom of priest and a holy nation means all members of the kingdom are priest and kings (that is where the idea Kingdom of priest comes from).

But here is an interesting twist, since the nation of Israel where not faithful to God, rejected the Christ and killed him, the priestly kingdom which came into effect with the new covenant was now on a spiritual nation of Israel, called the Israel of God. Any one from anywhere can be a part of the Kingly priesthood by virtue of their faith in Jesus. In the mosaic law covenant, none Israelite could have inheritance or share sonship, in the new covenant arrangement, non Israelite could be sons of God and share in sonly inheritance.

Jesus came to save men, bring them to God, reconcile relationship between God and men, invite many who previously were outsides into that relation. He told his disciples that in his father's house, there are many houses, he will go, prepare a place and be back to carry them. This is consistence with He 11:14-16; Mt 8:11; Re 19:1; Re 7:9-15. Nowhere did he promise to make the earth a paradise for his disciples to live in. All true Christians are sons of God.

What you learnt from Jws is a mixture of part Judaism, part Christianity. I may add, I came to see that the very reason why the majority of the Christian community have beliefs that are basically unchanged for 100s of years is because they are stated so in the bible. Reading the bible on your own, you see this things too. But Jws have beliefs that are reviewed and revised every 10 to 15 years. I came to see reason being these beliefs, on the most part are invented by people inside bethel, mostly sensational when introduced but with the passage of time, it becomes obvious they would not make sense so they get reviewed, revised, changed, abandoned.

It took me a while to decide on the title of this thread but then, it still somehow doesn't capture the idea of my post. Regardless, here goes...

There is no denying that living together as a couple between most men and their wife is like a herculean task these days, no thanks to divorce news, accusations and counter-accusations thrown around on almost every social media platform. As usual, Nairaland is not spared.

I have so many married friends with varying degrees of marital issues and it often flies above my head how their issues degenerated so bad that they have practically become housemates with their other person. They talk when in the home, laugh once in a while but the mental and emotional connection is all but gone. For the sake of this particular thread, I will be citing 4 different cases of my married friends, of both genders then will also look at some wild-spec instances I picked or learnt from my unmarried friends. These are all real-life scenarios.

Case One:

She was 22 and barely out of school before she got married to her husband. They didn't really know each other that much as a matter of fact but they got married anyway. Her reason was that 'he ticked all of her boxes' (which were basically money, a car and at least a 3 bedroom apartment). Hubby, on her part, decided to marry her because she is fair-skinned, gap-toothed and tall. Their marriage is about 6 years now and they have 3 amazing kids.

The problem?

The 'male spec' isn't strong bedmatically, he cheats (has been caught cheating by dear wife in the past), not exactly the type who communicates and has a traditional mindset. Sex, to him, is 'insert and out', share grace and sleep, and' the concept of intimacy/MouthAction is taboo in his village that if he does it, he might need to appease the gods for dishonouring them'. She has over 15 different ePDFs on ancient Kamasutra and once shared them with me. Heavy, graphic and detailed files. But he isn't interested.

The 'female spec' is indeed a beautiful lady, homely but laced with hot blood. She is wild, adventurous and isn't shy to admit or discuss her fantasies and marital sufferings with her friends, including yours truly. She is the total opposite of the 'male spec' and has or might have been cheating already. The last time she ranted about cheating and getting satisfied was about two years ago. Don't want to go beyond this.

Case 2:

Let's call him Dustin. Dustin met 'his spec' when he travelled for a project to a neighbouring state. Dustin's spec who is now his wife has an interesting appeal. She is effortlessly fair-skinned, natural pink lips, a conversationist, and an emotional being. Dustin would not allow anyone rest about his spec and how he would love and adore her the day he finds her. Practically all the ladies in his life at some point were that way but Seike (not real name) was different. Anyways, they got married and a lazy Dustin who doesn't like house chores other than doing laundry discovered that his spec of a wife doesn't actually know how to cook and doesn't like the kitchen at all. It all started as a joke until their families got involved less than 7 months into the union. Man wasn't having it anymore and wasn't willing to tolerate 'his spec's' shortcomings.

On his part, he has always been a nightcrawler and marriage has not exactly nipped that in the bud. Perhaps the idea of going home to met an empty pot when he knows he can't cook is not really appealing. Sure, he loves her but it is one petty issue or another. They are barely two years in and his great escape means is when he is travelling for projects.

Case 3

Call her MJ, the typical life of the party; lovable and quite open. As an undergraduate, MJ was an exco in her fellowship and was somewhat gentle. She was the tongue-speaking, gun-blazing, fire breathing dragon and must be present in almost all spiritual meetings organized by her fellowship, else, she is backsliding and moving away from God. She isn't actually religious but churchy. In a social gathering, she is the first to request for 'taju-taju' even when she knows there was no provision for alcohol (this is only recent). MJ's definition of spec was the now-famed TDH and boy, she got lucky! Or so we thought. 'Her spec' drips finesse. He is indeed tall, dark and charming. He is a quiet (well, so far though) chap who currently works as a manager in a financial institution and drives a pretty decent car. MJ works as an accountant and isn't bad at all.

'Finesse babyboy', unfortunately, is a cheat. Man can practically adore a woman's shadow just to 'get there'. He is barely home and when he is, always watching football. They don't talk deep anymore. At some point, she caught him cheating was ready to walk away from the marriage but she was talked into staying and that was where things went wrong. Strangely, 'baby boy' wasn't exactly skilled and a churchy MJ never really fancied sex. However, the fact that he isn't skilled in the affairs of the other room didn't deter him from cheating severally.

The problem with the marriage is Ps 123:7 and they have been married for nearly 8 years. Her inability to conceive is actually his fault but the patriarchal society we live in pressured her so much that she broke and started an affair with a chap who is a friend of the family. It all started with counselling, praying together and the rest is history. Sadly, the chap she was seeing happened to have mastered some ancient body exploration that they met almost every three days. It got so bad that she started fertility treatment with the dude. The reward for the chap being around her was gifts, money and of course the free access. She finally loved the act and couldn't get enough until a massive scandal rocked recently and she had to painfully let the guy whom she has been seeing for over 18 months go. Not sure the husband got to know the details but she told him while she wanted them to talk but because his sin were heavy and graver, he couldn't bring himself to have a heart-to-heart with her.

They are currently making conscious efforts to fix their home right now and it's been good so far.

Case 4

It just had to be a pastor's daughter for Cole. He has always been obsessed with them for weird reasons that he didn't take any chances the first time he set his eyes of Thelma. Thelma's father is a Zonal Pastor in one of the popular Pentecostal churches around. Cole is our lead guitarist and a charming young man, though struggling. The day Thelma attended a mass choir rehearsal and played the drums like a pro was the day Cole fell in love. It was her or no one else. Long story short, they are married but living apart. Thelma is in her parents' house while Cole had to temporarily relocate to make more money. His mother in law who came for Omugwo overstayed and ended up spending nearly five months. He couldn't send 'pastor's wife' away as he was scared to incur the wrath of the pastor. Strangely, sweet Thelma is still greatly attached to her mum that it made it difficult. He ran into debts trying to impress Thelma and her pastor father by throwing a big wedding he could not afford. They have 3 kids now but things are not as they ought to. What's worse, he has aged rapidly that he now looks like a shadow of himself.

Budding Case

This is rather interesting than all of the aforementioned cases. James is currently confused and unsure whether to lie to the pastor that he had a dream or not. You see, he has a girl he likes a lot but they don't even know each other that deep, strangely. James has talked to his pastor but he regretted he did as he could not respond to his pastor's only question on what his conviction is that the lady is the right person for him. His response is 'I just know she's the one for me' and nothing more. He has been asked to go and pray and has not seen a thing but he has said he might tell the pastor that he had a dream just so he can be with a fair-skinned, well-endowed lady with some puppy eyes.

My Point

There is a reason why the rate of divorce in Nigeria is high and increasing almost daily. Almost every Nigerian celebrity with a failed marriage always come out to pin it on abuse and other vices when these traits must have been seen at the earliest phase of the relationship and possibly avoided but the 'specs' fried their senses. Everyone, regardless of gender, loves a beautiful/charming person. However, this should serve as the basis for attraction and not marriage proper.

Specs will definitely not keep a relationship, let alone sustain one. As a matter of fact, one stops seeing that spec the moment you get to see the person often.

You can see a pre-wedding photo today and take a wild guess what the attraction was and you'll be right. Strangely, all of the cases I cited had one popular saying; 'he/she has changed is not the person I fell in love with'. Well, true that. you went for the spec and ignored those things that mattered the most. Imagine someone whose specs in ladies is a spotless face. . And then there is the beard gang category which almost every lady falls under.

Are specs actually bad? The obvious answer is 'NO'. However, they shouldn't be the basis for getting married. What happens, when a spotless face becomes riddled with acne? What happens when one of those straight, fine legs get amputated after getting married for just that one reason? What happens when pressures zap your libido and the primary reason you married is for sex?

I am not saying people should end up with the exact opposite of what they have in mind. Rather, they should pay attention to deep traits that will come in handy and possibly sustain the marriage when the time comes.

You read or hear about a particular marital problem and you can't help but wonder what the couple talked about or discussed during dating/courtship. Marriage remains beautiful but most people marry for all the wrong reasons in the world. Specs won't keep a home and it won't make one happy forever. I think it is high time young people really sat down and learn to prioritize what is of benefit to them and their home; specs or peace of mind?

My dad, a retired Pentecostal Reverend spent a fortune on books, old books. 90 percent of them are religious books which nobody has opened for the better part of 25 to 30 years now.

Not that we the children are averse to reading, but this is the digital age, the age of PDF drive.
For instance, he has the complete volumes of Matthew Henry's commentary. I've got same in my laptop, it's not more than 8MB. There are many instances of this.

Dad, 76 this year, and mum are planning to relocate to the new house built for them in the village. I'm the last child, I'll take over this present apartment and refurbish it to taste.

Only problem is what to do with these books. The shelves, 4 of them, are occupying criminal amounts of space.

Does anyone know any agency or company that'll have an interest in these religious books? Will state or federal libraries have any interest in old religious books?

My friend every religion has good people in it but human goodness outside God's word is mere self righteousness. And if human goodness could save, Jesus Christ would not have come and died to save us. The Bible said our righteousness is as filthy rags. In another place it says " There are many ways that seemeth right unto men but the end thereof is the way of destruction. Truth does not contradict itself, so if this religion is saying this is the way and another is saying it is not, it means one is the religions is fake. The Bible says " You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
