I am not even laying much emphasis of immoral characters here but on **2 a member who seem to have an independent biblical opinion slightly different from the standard jw teachings/narrative. Maybe you don’t understand the basis of my argument. Premarital sex is bad and abortion is very bad but the reason I brought up this issue is to tell you the reason why this jw brother decided never to marry this lady. The reason is related to the topic we are discussing; that the jw group and his family will disown/shun/disfellowship him if he marries a non-jw. [/b]Which means that if this lady was a jw, despite their sexual immorality, she will still be accepted by his family and the jw. I once dated a jw lady who told me same thing, that the only basis for our continued social relationship is for me to join the group which I am/was not ready to do hence the relationship broke.

[b]What I see here is that jw family/friends do not give room for their members to have alternative and dissenting biblical view which itself is a form of passive tyranny and psychological aggression. We can be in the same house and still have a minor disagreement in principles. Paul and Barnabas, though both are apostles of Jesus, have divergent views but still remain one in the Christian fold. Paul and Peter have divergent views, especially whther gentiles should follow the Jewish customs and tradition, or not, yet none call each other apostates and unbelievers.

So what I am saying in essence is that doctrinal difference is not a new thing in the Christian faith, it is as old as Christianity itself. JW hence doesn’t have monopoly of ‘Truth’ hence if anyone chooses to leave the fold as a result of divergent/differences in view/theology, jw should not make the person look bad or demonize such a person. This practice of shunning is passive tyranny by the JW; it can break family, community and friends. Look beyond an organization’s doctrine/dogma and see things from a rational point of view.
