Phones › Re: The type of phone you use is a reflection of who you are. by Jarus(m): 10:56pm On Jan 04, 2016 |
Toks2008: Phones they say are just necessities and not luxury but in many parts of the world especially in Nigeria, many people see phones as luxury and they tend to want to use the very expensive ones even when they can't afford it and knowing fully well that any phone can be stolen no matter how well you guard it.This has made me believe that indeed the type of phone we use goes a long way to tell us about who we are.
Some will say its a gift but then most times, the source of the gift is also a pointer to your personality So if you meet any guy or lady,it is very easy to know their personality just by taking a look at the cost of the phone the person uses in comparison with the person's financial status especially in Nigeria..How?
1.A Guy or lady who works but uses an expensive phone that costs higher than their monthly salary is wasteful.
2.A jobless lady who uses an I-phone 6 or very expensive phone is either a runs girl or has rich parents while a jobless guy who uses an I-phone 6 or a very expensive phone must be a yahoo guy or has very rich parent.
3.A gainfully employed man or woman who uses phones quite cheaper than their monthly salary is very prudent.
4.People who brag about their love for expensive phones irrespective of their income are proud and extravagant.
5.A very financially ok person who uses phones less than 10k is very secretive and could be hiding something.
6.Anyone who uses a phone that is binded by rubber or taped is terribly broke.
You can add yours... I think I'm #3. I used to use phone of 100k plus in the early years of my career, some 7, 8 years ago. Now, phones don't freak me again at all. I currently use 18k BlackBerry. If you like, use N1m worth phone, I don't judge you based on that. |
Politics › Re: Seriake Dickson Moves To Join Apc by Jarus(m): 4:46pm On Jan 04, 2016 |
hmuhammad: The Bayelsa state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Governor Seriake Dickson’s recent visit to the presidential villa, Aso Rock, was to beg President Muhammadu Buhari to join the APC.
Despite recent political disagreements, Governor Dickson is known as a core loyalist of former president, Goodluck Jonathan
The party’s allegation was made through the Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation (SICO), in a statement signed by its Director, Media and Publicity, Chief Nathan Egba.
Egba who said the governor was at the seat of power without invitation, further said Dickson who sought to seek audience with Buhari, was also denied access to meet with the Chief of Staff to the federal government, Alhaji Abba Kyari.
He said: “Our sources confirmed to us that Governor Dickson went to beg the presidency to forgive him over his derogatory and inflammatory statements during the election and to prevail on the APC candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, to soft pedal in Southern Ijaw LGA to enable him win the forthcoming rerun election in the area.
“In return for that favour, the governor proposed to forment an artificial crisis in the PDP at the national level and use that as a basis to decamp from his party to the ruling APC. His argument was that he recognised the fact that Bayelsa state cannot afford to remain in opposition to the ruling party.
“We know of a fact that this would be the second time Governor Seriake Dickson would be seeking to dump the PDP for the APC in the course of elections in thes.
“The first time was in the heat of the National Assembly primaries of early last year when he sought to replace all serving National Assembly members from the State with his cronies against the wishes of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who wanted the performing ones to be returned.
“On that occasion, he openly threatened both the former President and the PDP hierarchy of his readiness to decamp to the APC and using his past relationship with the APC National Leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu to secure tickets for his preferred candidates, as well as himself to defeat the PDP at the polls.
“Of course he got his way in that election with Dr. Jonathan despite sponsored verbal and media attacks against the former First Lady, Dame Patience.
“But unfortunately for Mr. Dickson, the APC unlike his party, the PDP, will not fall for such cheap antics and the officials he met with, clearly told him there was no deal. He therefore, had to return home deflated and empty handed.”
But in a swift reaction to Egba’s claims, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement signed by the Director, Restoration Campaign Organisation (RCO), Jonathan Obuebite, denied the allegation.
He said: “Governor Dickson has no reason to defect to the APC in order to win an election that had ahead been won. We call on APC to accept the fact that they had lost this election. They have not only lost, they have also been roundly rejected by the people. No amount of propaganda, lies and deceit can change the outcome of an election that had already been won by the PDP.”
Recall that the Bayelsa state governorship election was held on Saturday, December 5, but that of the Southern Ijaw region was nullified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the election was declared inconclusive.
INEC said the election was nullified due to violence, abduction of electoral officials and ballot box snatching in the area. Results already announced indicates that Governor Dickson is leading in the poll.
However, both Dickson and Sylva have been asking to be declared winner of the election by INEC.
https://www.naij.com/684212-bayelsa-governor-seriake-dickson-moves-join-apc.html My sympathy lies with APC, but I see propaganda written all over this. Propaganda is part of politics though. Spinning news. |

samflexxy: The 10th edition of the Headies award held last night at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, but the award pretty much ended on a sour note after Mavin boss and YBNL boss got into a nasty fight because Lil Kesh of the YBNL lost The Next Rated Award for 2015 category to Reekado Banks of the Mavin which started a beef between the record label CEOs. I think we the fans are begging for answers based on this beef…
Olamide, when his artist Adekunle Gold won the award for Best Alternative act for his song, Shade climbed the stage with his whole to address what he felt was an injustice to Lil Kesh, said some unpleasant things threw the mic on the floor and stomped off the stage and Don Jazz, who had been given a Special Recognition award at the end of his acceptance speech, urged Olamide to come take the car that came with the award in question…
1. Don Jazzy not make his beats, rather, he pays people to do it and take all the credit – As revealed by Olamide
2. Headies Awards has been compromised. Going back to 2014 Headies, Reekado Banks won the Rookie of the Year award without having a song to be nominated with, but his input with Mavin Song Dorobucci.
3. Olamide has let go of the fact that D’banj’s producer, Deevee accused him of stealing the Kokomaster’s songs. This can be seen in how Olamide dragged D’banj into his rant?
4. Don Jazzy is an attention seeker who is not humble at all as he pose to be – As revealed by Olamide.
5. Olamide actually care about the feelings of his fans. This seen in the way he was quick to apologize to them for his very unruly and unacceptable conduct at the awards.
Do you see a diss track loading anyone or should we just #LeavetrashforLAWMA 6, OP is a fan of Olamide pretending to be neutral. |

Dahveydson: Before 2015 ends, i'll like to get this off my mind. Always wanted to write it, but never got the push.
Here goes...
I applied for an HR assistant through a vacancy that was shared on here. Was invited for the chat, then wrote a test. After a week, I got a success mail, inviting me for a panel presentation and interview.
I prepared for it, gave the panel presentation and answered all the questions to the best of my knowledge. Let me introduce at this point that I studied political science and have a management certification. So the questions bothered on my course and it's relationship to human resources.
I was able to successfully convince the panel with the leadership experience, the skills that come with my course and my management certification. I got another success mail for the a computer skill based test and chat with directors.
The Computer test was a piece of cake. Now the directors chat is where my story centres on, after being ushered it to the first office. The director already gave me that unfriendly stance, but I smiled and greeted him anyway.
He asked two basic questions, then asked about the relationship of my course to Human resources, I was leaping for joy inside of me because I have rehearsed and prepared well for this question. As I was reeling out my answer confidently, he stopped me and said Human Resources doesn't have anything to do with management of people, that even cleaners manage people every day
I was stunned! In my head I was screaming - "What the hell is this man say?" - he went on to say he cannot employ a civil engineer to do a medical doctor's job. Every attempt to defend my position was shut down.
Going to the second office. The whole scenario kept playing in my head. The second director asked basic questions also, I had picked and gave answers confidently. Then he adjusted well on his sit and unexpectedly asked What are you thoughts on the Principle - The End Justify the means. I couldn't fashion out coherent thoughts on that question and that was the last question he asked.
____________________________________
Now I look back and I don't understand something. Why will the first director say Human resources doesn't have to do with the management of people?
That's my experience guys. Thanks for reading. Sometimes, interviewers, especially non-HR interviewers like CEO, Directors etc, ask some questions just to play the devil's advocate. Just to disrupt the flow and see how coherent you will be in the face of disruption to your line of thought. Most executive-level interviewers don't ask traditional interview questions. The good thing is most of them are usually lenient once you demonstrate basic intelligence. Mere mention of Nicolo Machiavelli even if you went on to ramble, would have convinced him. On relationship between the course, the civil engrg and medicine example is different. These are more specialist courses. HR is different. HR is not a specialist area in the sense of medicine. You just needed to go on and list example of successful HR practitioners that had academic background different from HR |

MissTechy: As seen on MissTechy
I am not sure how many of you know this, but when I started MissTechy earlier this year, I was working as a Digital Strategist at one of the top digital agencies in Nigeria. During this phase, It wasn’t easy, but with determination, passion, consistency, hard work and most importantly the God factor, I was able to survive.
HOW I STARTED MISSTECHY
I have always been a techy by default (Thank you Google), as a matter of fact, back in my university days, if there was something wrong with your laptop and you couldn’t fix it yourself, Tobi Ayeni might be your best bet. But it was until January 2015 that I decided to create MissTechy.
I started with the design (P.S MissTechy’s header was designed by me, I couldn’t afford a graphic designer), downloaded a free theme and even learnt a bit of coding (I love you Google) to fix some things I didn’t like.
During the period of designing & creating, my weekends were the best days because I could fully work on Misstechy without my job interfering. So I used it well and got my blog up on the 9th of February.
For those who don’t know, this is how my blog looked like when I first started. https://i63.tinypic.com/2sb0rvc.jpg
MY BUSY SCHEDULE
Before I started, I kinda believed that It wouldn’t be soooo difficult, boy was I wrong! Due to the nature of my Job, I mostly had time for Misstechy in the wee hours of the morning, usually before 8 am. If you’ve been following MissTechy then, you will remember that during this period, I was only able to post 1-2 articles per day.
https://i63.tinypic.com/2uotcuo.jpg
My schedule was simple, wake up really early, find an interesting post, go to work, come back in the evening usually by 7 -8 ish (sometimes 11 pm), look for something to post, then follow that cycle the next day.
ROAD BLOCK: SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE However, despite my effort, I wasn’t getting great results. Also, due to an illness back then, I alienated myself from my friends who could have helped me with a RT or pushed my blog on social media. Finally, my divided attention was beginning to tell on my work performance.
So, I reduced the number of posts I did to 1, then relied on Facebook ads for the first month, but stopped after I realized that the people who came through Facebook ads hardly returned the next day. (I still needed to use my money to bring them back and I was in my Ojuelegba zone).
HOW I FOUND A BALANCE
The truth is, not everybody will have the type of job that requires you being online all the time, but I had and I used it to my advantage – for every time I was less busy in the office and during lunch breaks, I’d ensure I got more stories to post.
Another thing that helped me was my consistent article pattern, I found a pattern that was easy and short, with it, I could read a new story, understand it and try to make it interesting without breaking a sweat.
Also, God brought me readers like you who could make me smile with their comments, honestly, your comments made everything worthwhile.
Finally, the fact that I was super passionate about technology ensured I didn’t throw in the towel even when the going got tough. It wasn’t easy, but I was very passionate and I had a goal, I wanted to get MissTechy out there and I was willing to lose sleep and work extra hard to see that my goals were achieved. https://i63.tinypic.com/mj5ver.jpg
DID I ACHIEVE MY GOALS?
My answer:
https://i67.tinypic.com/2zzjj1g.jpg
I haven’t achieved everything in my book, but I haven’t lost focus either.
LESSON LEARNT.
I survived, thanks to the fact that I was passionate, knew how to manage my time and made SMART goals. https://i63.tinypic.com/ygmfc.jpg
Hehe, anyway, by SMART, I mean your goals must be:
Specific: What exactly do you want? The more specific you are, the more likely you are to achieve your goals.
Measurable: How will you track your progress?
Attainable: Ensure you are setting a goal that is attainable, an unattainable goal is wanting your blog to grow like Linda Ikeji’s in a month.
Realistic: How ready are you to take the necessary steps to achieve this goal?
Time-Bound: You should always ensure your goals are timely. I wanted to acquire Google Adsense in the first month and I did.
I am going to end with this: If someone says it’s going to be easy, BIG LIE!! It is going to be really hard, but if a smallie like me can survive this, You can!! You should also remember that you have the ability to get to where you want to, but it is up to you to get there. Finally, find a balance that suits you and ensure whatever you are doing is fun.
There you have it, really long, but I hope you can learn a thing or two from it. Hi I read here that your blog was acquired in June by a former VP at Konga http://techcabal.com/2015/08/03/anozim-acquires-nigerian-female-focused-tech-blog-misstechy/Is this true? Also, I can see that your Alexa rating is circa 110k globally and around 960 in Nigeria. This is impressive for a new blog. How do you promote your blog? Where do you get most traffic? Did you do an sponsored social media post? |

Education › Re: Increase of tuition fees in Nigerian Universities:A better educational standard? by Jarus(m): 5:27pm On Dec 29, 2015 |
Hi Ehisdan, With the state of infrastructure in our higher institutions, what is the alternative source of funding if tuition fees should not be raised? ehisdan: Good day the creator of this Forum, the moderator, panel of judges, my co-debaters and fellow nairanders viewing this thread at home.
My name is Ehisdan an electrical/electronic student of Auchi polytechnic, Auchi. I am writing to oppose the notion ‘’Increase of tuition fees in Nigerian Universities is necessary for a better educational standard’’.
I start my opposition by first explaining the sentences ‘’tuition fee and educational standard. ‘’Tuition fees are charged by educational institutions in some countries to assist with funding of staff and faculty, course offerings, laboratory equipment, computer systems, libraries, facility up keep and to provide a comfortable student learning experience’’. While educational standard define the knowledge and skills students should possess in their educational carrier. I believe with this explanation many will support that there is a need for tuition fee increment forgetting the word ‘’assist’’. Since the fee is to assist the necessary body or board in charge of education why should there be hike on the fee? In other countries of the world tuition fee increment is a little addition to its original amount while in Nigeria it is a hike. In most countries, especially non-English-speaking countries, there are no or only nominal tuition fees for all forms of education, including university and higher education which is the pivot of this debate. To back up my stand, are few of the many points outlined below:
Corruption: Nigeria has been so drown in corruption that nothing is worth writing good for/about the country. Corruption has affected the way funds are allocated within the national/state budgets diverting expenditures from education to high kickback areas thereby using hike in tuition fee to cover up. Former EFCC chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, at Babcock University convocation ceremony, acknowledged that education is our destiny in the journey towards freedom and progress, but as reality of our nation has shown he warned: “If we do not build this project of education on the important values of honesty, transparency and accountability, education itself can become a rapacious, self-consuming monster that nurtures nightmarish visions”. He revealed that Nigeria has spent over N1.1 trillion on education in the past five years – “a whopping budget that appears to have deepened more private pockets than any national institution”. If Government money can be embezzled what do you think will happen to the money gotten from the masses? So increment of tuition fee will only be to enrich to pocket of some certain people in power.
Financial barriers to education impact: merit and desire to education should determine who goes to the university, when the ability to pay becomes a deciding factor, then our country loses the chance to benefit from the skills and capabilities of its citizens. Many are on the streets that are supposed to be on the four walls of our tertiary institution but are unable due to high tuition fee. The first decade after independence, there was free-flowing access to education at all levels – primary, secondary and tertiary (university specifically) and the standard of education was very much ok. My mathematics lecturer, who happens to be a beneficiary of this free education in his cause of lecture once, told us that the standard of education in Nigeria has gone down the lane. He said and I quote: ‘’this is not school you people are attending, during our time everything was in order, well composed by the government, when corruption has not Crip into the government of this country. We were taking three times free meal a day, the government is the one providing our textbooks and notebooks and everything needed to standardise education were readily made available by the government’’. Then I said to myself will this ever happen again, all these were possible without assistant of tuition fee. Now that there is assistant through tuition fee everything has turn upside down. Which means if tuition fee is increased more than what it is now the education system in Nigeria University will totally fall apart.
Tuition fee increment is not what universities in Nigeria need for standard education but government proper agenda toward the standard of tertiary institution: Education of this country should be the responsibility of the government, especially at the University level by providing the necessary needs for better educational standard in the country. This is the only way the education sector in the country can grow and compete with other countries of the world. If it’s swerved to tuition fee, a good standard will never be attained because the higher the fee the lower the number of people who can afford it.
High tuition fee is not a determinant of better educational standard: Countries like Finland, Austria, France, Germany, to mention but few have a better educational standard compared to Nigeria, their tuition fee is low. Another example is some of the universities and polytechnics in Nigeria whose tuition fee is low yet their academic standard is better than that of the universities whose tuition fees are high, the likes of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Benin (UNIBEN), Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, and University of Ibadan (UI). These are the best Universities and polytechnic in Nigeria yet their tuition fee is at the lower rate.
Education is a right not a privilege: high tuition fee in the name of a better educational standard will prompt education to be a privilege in which only the rich will be able acquire it. In 1977 the government of Nigeria declared that education is an instrument of national development. If cost of acquiring this instrument is a burden on the people of the country and only the rich are able to overcome it how then will the country develop? The need for low tuition fee is very necessary so that there will be equality of educational acquisition.
Having written all these, I draw the cotton of closure for the time being, with believe in my heart that I have bring to your understanding the reasons why ‘’Increase in tuition fees in Nigeria universities is not necessary for a better educational standard’’ Thank you.

increasing the tuition fee will just be a plot and conspiracy to enrich the academic board of the institution and anyone that doubts this should write for the expenditure of monies realized from the fuel subsidy removal in 2012 as the said little fee being paid for our academics could be likened/referred to as being subsidized. Jeojonah, 1, Kindly substantiate you claim that Academic Board of institutions have anything to do with finances of institutions. 2, Remind me of what academics has got to do with subsidy removal. Thanks. |
