emiye: Nigeria can qualify with this kind of configuration. And you think Uruguay will stop at 4 against Tahiti? Nigeria beating Spain 1-0. Well, if Nigeria could concede against super minnows like Tahiti, Malawi, Namibia and Kenya, I don't see them maintaining clean sheet against Spain. Maybe 2-1 is a possible victory. |
matthew1985: haha have you seen the Japan 3: 4 Italy? So who's Japan aand who's Italy? And how does 3-4 solve anything for Nigeria? Of course, you won't tell me tahiti stand any chance against Uruguay. |
We are technically out of this tournament even if we beat Spain. If we beat Spain, best result, 3-1. We will be on 6 points, +6 goal difference. Spain will be on 6 points, +9 goal difference. Uruguay will only need to beat Tahiti 6-0. Even with that most generous assumptions, we won't qualify. Of course, me and you know we can't beat Spain 3-1. So it's as good as we are out. |
Uruguay parade: Cavani - Highest goal scorer in Serie A Suareaz - 2nd Highest goal scorer EPL But e no matter sha France @ WC 2002 Henry - EPL top scorer Trezeguet - Serie A top scorer Jibril Cisse - French Ligue 1 top scorer Yet no single goal in 3 matches. |
Ola Johnson: With the attitude of students towards cultists, I doubt if there cults on campus, there may be cultists. They and thieves are always given different type of beating ranging from maximus shshi (MMS) and scientific maximus shishi (SMS).Do they still do Maximum Shishi (MSS) at Awo coffe room? If you ever witnessed a person being meted MSS, you will never steal 50 kobo on campus. |
Ola Johnson: This thread will be dry if we fail to discuss people like: Dr Dipo Fashina (Jingo) and Prof. J. A. Fabayo (Fabryo).Has Jingo retired? |
Ola Johnson: This thread will be dry if we fail to discuss people like: Dr Dipo Fashina (Jingo) and Prof. J. A. Fabayo (Fabryo).Jingo: Well, I scored 94% (highest for the set, for the 5 faculties taking his course) in his PHL 101. He was a fantastic teacher. All the characters, Bombata etc. He was ASUU national president during my set. I enjoyed his courses. FABRO: He part-taught me ECN 401. Crazy man. I remember him catching me not tucking in my shirt one afternoon at the department (I was in his department). He gave me a knock. Since that time I almost tucked in native anytime I was going to pass through his office corridor ![]() |
Emmysteve: what if we draw with spain. mtcheeeeeewIt is easier to defeat Uruguay than draw with Spain. |
sweetcheecks: My plea to the Super Eagles!!!Thanks jare. But our black brother here (they know themselves), who have also suffered in the hands of teh Uruguayans, wish us bad luck. |

The ignorant arguments can be annoying at times. I almost broke someone's head last time I watched football in one, when the guy never knew Yakubu was Nigeria's all-time 3rd highest goal scorer, and was arguing blindly with me. Another ignorant comment, was when someone yelled, "wetin Yobo dey do for back?", as if Yobo na striker. |
Wish I could go back to lecturing. I like teaching. |
Too many people have been complaining about GTB these days. I hope Segun will not destroy Fola and Tayo's legacy. |
I was surprised when I heard that matter on radio this morning. I said, wth, so Whizkid is that cheap? Nice hearing it was one impostor. But everything is demand and supply (market forces). Whizkid is in hot demand now and his market value is high. A time may come when his value will drop. In 2008, my then company paid 3m to get 9ice perform at our end of year party. He was at his peak then. Today, with 1m, you should be able to call 9ice. |
oluwatobi01: Scenerio so far,all the teams that won their first matches also won their second matches....Will this trend continues?,only time will tell.To me,a draw is the best result for the Super Eagles as far as this squad is concern.....Or what do you thinkIf we draw, our destiny may no longer be in our hands. We will be on +5 and Uruguay -1. All Uruguay need to do is beat Tahiti 6-0, and we losing to Spain by any margin. |
ManTiger: hahahahahhahahahaha, can't believe this, i stayed in Blk 4 room 112, we might have ya each other before "Ejade e jia bura wa o".Block 4. That's our rival. Block 4 and self-help block face each other and when we begin the 'e jade kabura wa' aro, it can go on for 1 hour. |
SuyaEater: Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has already named his team for that match against Nigeria. With this 3-4-3, Eagles need to be fast in attack. Speed will be needed, any ball intercepted or dispossessed from the Uruguayan midfielders/attackers should be sent with long pass to the wings (11 and 7), who will quickly beat their 2 defenders before their midfielders recover. |
SuyaEater: Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has already named his team for that match against Nigeria.Na wa o. Massive attack: 3-4-3 Forlan, Suarez and Cavani together. I don't see Eagles coming out with a clean sheet (they will score us), but draw (1-1 or 2-2)is what my mind keeps telling me, or even victory is not impossible. |
My mind keeps telling it's a draw, with a faint hope in victory too. |
kofsy: Hmmmmmmm! I see my great ife peeps are reminiscing in this thread!!! I'm a proud alumnus too...Nice. I was a pioneer SIFE member and 2nd President. |
Ola Johnson: Who knows what exactly happened on July 10, 1999.DK should know very well. He was in Ife and on campus then. Admitted into Ife 2 sessions after that. So I only heard from witnesses, didn't witness. It's a story that's quite long. Series of event preceded the July 10 strike, like the arrest of cultists by the Students Union around March etc. |
Too bad. Thought religion has taken away all these. This is one of the reason I don't intend participating in elective politics in Nigeria. Hardly possible not to compromise, if not moral/ethics, it's faith. |
Let them qualify first. |

Does anyone know anything about the famous 'LONG TREK' of 1970s? I have seen some ex-Ife make reference to it some newspaper articles I read. Senator Mamora mentioned it, Yinka Odumakin (Joe-Odumakin's husband) also mentioned. I think Professor Ayo Olukotun was the Student Union president that year. |
otipoju: There is only one Great Ife in the universe, another Great Ife is a counterfeit...I was also in Awo 2001 - 2006. From Self-help to Block 7, later Block 8. |
CHOI! I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON OH!! RONALDINHO+MESSI+RONALDO=NEYMAR!!
More like: Messi - Ronadinho - Ronaldo = Neymar |
dayokanu: I didnt want to call them that because some people might disagree. But they had the intellectual arm that engages in debates and the thuggery arm once headed by Fryo(Bola Ige) to scatter electionYeah, they have intellectual and thuggery arms. Those guys sabi those Marxist archaic theories. One of them, Wale Eleto, was in my class. He almost frustrate our ECN 203 (Development economics) lecturer by questioning, arguing and challenging alll the neo-liberal theories. |
dayokanu: Who are these DSM guys without mentioning Tony Fash, Saint, Legacy, Tomi, Burkina, Maxwell etcI remember the day Burkina was impeached. 2002 |
Afritop: THE INDULGENCE OF PREMARITAL SEX IN OAU IS ALARMING. AT A TIME I THOUGHT THE SCHOOL IS RELIGIOUS GIVEN THE HIGH NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS SPRINGING UP WAS WHEN SOME STUDENTS TAKE PREMARITAL SEX FOR GRANTED. I REMEMBERED A TIME IN YEAR 2006 WHEN THE SCHOOL WAS SHUT FOR MOJO BREAK DUE TO A FACE-OFF BETWEEN AWO BOYS AND THEIR MUSLIM COUNTERPART AND A TIME WHEN SOME STUDENTS UNKNOWN TO THEM THAT WE WERE WATCHING THRU A SMALL SPACE IN THE WINDOW WHERE HAVING SEX. THAT HAPPENED IN THE ROOM BEFOR MINE.Battle of the stone March 14-15, 2006. Memories. |
coogar: it seems 60% of NL users went to or are schooling in OAU.Great Ife. Well, Seun himself na ex-Ife. |
Ola Johnson: I always felt bad whenever this question was asked in front Awolowo Hall, block 1 in the 2006/07 session. Students would respond, "o hold ti!"The 'will exam hold?' brouhaha actually happened in 2004. It later became a slang. I remember the congresses at Amphi theatre to deliberate on way forward, with students forming two camps (those who wanted the exams to hold, and those who wanted it postponed) and each camp facing each other with war songs: The pro-exam song: "Omo ti o f'oju s'eko re blabla" (students that face their studies will always excel, students that don't, will fail in life) The pro-postponement song: shouts of "ige iwe, eso odo" (see them, studious as they are, they always fail. It was damn fun. ![]() |
