A medium-size oil and gas company needs to fill the position of Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer
If you have the following, you can pm me. I can recommend one or two qualified guys for interview subject to satisfaction of the company's HR: • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Instrument and Controls Engineering, Chartered Status preferred. • A minimum of 12 years’ Experience in the oil and gas plants, chemical plant or refinery • Field experience and strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems • Strong ability to share knowledge and train technicians • Knowledge of international equipment specifications and codes • In depth knowledge of standard international specifications and codes • Knowledge of safety and quality procedures. • Good communication skills, cost awareness and proactive approach • Activity Scheduling and discipline work priorities • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task • Analytical and problem-solving qualities
Please don't bother to contact if you don't have minimum of all of the first 3 requirements. You know instrumentation experience is a rare experience.
Hint: The pay could be equivalent to, or slightly more than, what an SS2 person in NNPC earns. |

Moham553: Some of you that have great jobs and intend to leave them for nnpc. Please consider letting unsuccessful candidates on this forum in on it because tension full ground. Let everyone win! If I quit my current job for NNPC, my immediate report is likely going to be promoted to take over my role. I may not be around to interview the person that will replace him. But not really sure of this NNPC yet. If I get it, it will put me in serious dilemma. Pay wise, it doesn't compare my current position, but NNPC offers more stability and security, and a bigger organization. I also prefer Abuja as a city to my current Lagos (even though moving to Abuja returns me to being a tenant). Another big pro of NNPC is, it could be a stepping stone to international energy bodies like OPEC which generally prefer people with NOC experience (compared to a relatively small oil company). The principal reason I applied for NNPC was to get first hand info to use for my interview coaching side venture, but along the line, I found myself getting more serious as my friends that work there try to convince me. The decision would have been very easy if I could be considered for managerial role (which is impossible as my years of experience is 11 as opposed to 18 years NNPC required) or SS1 supervisor (3 years before managerial position). Insha Allah, when we get to the bridge. But as at today, the "don't take it" decision is still the stronger instinct. By the way, as nobody is above regret email, if I don't get NNPC offer, makes the decision easiest. |

Arysexy: Why do I have this feeling that you are a confusionist who may not have been involved in this recruitment.
You want to bring the 2nd batch speculation in this thread like they had in DPR and NNPC 2012 recruitment Unfortunately, that second batch speculation is a fixed feature of any major recruitment in Nigeria. It will surely come on this thread too. You can't stop it. It happened in NNPC 2012, NLNG 2015, DPR 2017. People are still waiting for 2nd batch is the last 2. In fact, if not because of this current NNPC recruitment that effectively laid the truth in their face, some people from NNPC 2012 will still be waiting till today, more than 7 years after resumption of the people taken. Those still sitting in NLNG 2015 and DPR 2017 threads are likely going to be there for more years until another advert by these companies put reality in their faces. It is sure to happen on this thread too - 2 years after the chosen people have resumed, some people will still be here speculating about 2nd batch. You can't stop that. It is a fixed feature of every major recruitment in Nigeria. It is who we are - a people of hope and faith even when it contradicts reality and plain facts on ground. |

Saimeritus: That number is outrageous but people will be seconded to NLNG. I was asked during my interview that since I had experience from NLNG whether I will like to be seconded. Most of the interview questions came from a Project I did during my Internship at NLNG. No doubt NNPC staff get seconded to NLNG -those that attended the coaching organized by my career firm, JarusHub, will remember I said it in each class. But it is not an NLNG project that will make NNPC suddenly increase new recruits from planned 1300 to 5000. Not even to 2000 is plausible. Not even NLNG, the direct owner of the project, will recruit 3500 extra hands for a project. As a matter of fact, oil and gas projects are handled by specialized external contractors called oil servicing companies with supervision and collaboration with internal resources. If that internal resources is to be enhanced for a specific company, it wont be recruiting 3500 new staff. What happened to such staff after end of project when you move to operations phase? Lay them off? Keep paying their salaries for 7 years before you have another project of such scale? That is the reason there are specialized firms for that - oil servicing firms - who can move such employees (project) to another company's/client's projects when one project is completed, and who pay lower salaries than asset owning companies, and who are the quickest to lay off during downturn in oil and gas industry when they are not getting enough projects. If at all NNPC (which is not NLNG and will only second) is going to increase their planned staff intake because of a new NLNG project, it wont be by more than 200 new people. And secondment to NLNG from NNPC involves high level politics. Doubt a new recruit will get this. |

Saimeritus: They are not talking of direct recruitment but NNPC Staff being sent as Secondees to partake in train 7 Project. it's still on process, Nnpc had about 5% quota of personnels to take part of the project but they're trying to review the % meanwhile the state govt also have around 10% slot which will consist of host communities and state indigenes..The rest will be on purely merit NLNG is one of the most transparent company av seen so far because of their strive for excellence, they'll rather pay off the government and host communities than allow unqualified Personnel compromise their standard of operations. So 3500 NNPC staff will be seconded from NNPC to NLNG because of Train 7? |

That NLNG theory does not make sense to be honest.
NLNG has a separate recruitment process (and an entirely different corporate practice), if it wants to recruit, it wont come from NNPC recruitment.
You guys dont need all these. NNPC is recruiting less than 1,300 people from authentic HR source. If it's going to increase, it wont be more than 1,500.

mosgoon: I really tried to shrug off the idea of there being a trend or a plan regarding TF payments.. But as time goes by, I am beginning to think there's more to it. I think there has to be a plan/agenda regarding it. Most likely it's not related to APLs but there has to be a plan, even if it's a disbursement plan or scheduling plan. I have never doubted that it doesn't have anything to do with APL but I agree with the other points you made. The biggest puzzle for me is not even the strange disbursement timing but the fact that it is coming from private bank accounts of NNPC staff. My mind went to a debit card system as used in my company where some staff are given debit cards loaded with company funds which they use for company operations (and they retire ie account for the fund). But it doesn't make sense to me for NNPC to use such for reimbursement of interview candidates. But that's the only instance I can think of where company payments can be made from private bank account. But it is not strong enough an explanation to me. |

moogoogaipan: Interviewed on the 6th, 12pm. I can't fuckn remember my panel, never noticed there was any panel nos doh.
They intro emselves when i entered, i was asked to sit before that doh. The Chief Panelist asked me to Introduce myself, part of my intro was that, i had a brief stint with the Lagos State Safety Commission & then currently working with Lagos State blablabla, So he said, having worked with lagos state safety commission before, now Give me (5) safety tips you would advice a worker in a workplace. I could only mutter (4), without making a fuss about it, told him, I'll stop at the (4). A woman, an hajia, asked me, if i have ever had a disagreement with my boss before, i said yes and then i find one Zobo give em, she vehemently asked after my narration, that, In all my story, i sha had a disagreement with my boss, i affirmed YES and then she scribbled something on her note. One other man, asked me what cracking blablablabla is, this was my response "not that i didn't do it in chemistry, but right now, i can't remember, not to keep other candidates waiting long, I'll pass, that said, i am open to knowledge, so you could help me sir" one of the ogas nodded and told the Man(who asked me d qst) to help out, the Nigerianess in him kicked in by saying "No oooo oga, why i go tell am" The next panelist, asked if i have ever been stressed, I said Yes, and then i gave him another Zobo. The man, who asked me the cracking & fractional distillation qst, later asked me "what are the impacts of petroleum on the environment", gave him answers to the best of my knowledge..
I was asked, if i had a qst to ask em. this was exactly my qst "God willing i was choosen, going forward, in the next 5 yrs, what would you expect to have been my accomplishment", The man explained what i already knew, i.e The GT program blablablabla
I was told, the interview had officially ended, it was then, my CV & documents were checked & retained, the man congratulated me on my 1st Class. and then i take my leave.
I studied Envtl. Health @ HND & Envtl. Mgt & Toxicology @BSc., if you're wondering what course i was biased in.
On the CBT The qsts i encountered, i wouldn't have had difficulties with em, even when i was in JSS3, it was later that i realize that, the qsts were random, some peoples face were grim & i be like, i didn't even use a calculator or do any workings, i guess pure luck, those who said simple qsts are usually the tricky one's, are not outrightly wrong, the tricky part comes from being overjoyed, as always, the moment you're overjoyed, you're over blind too, which implies, you're prone to simple oversights, until you come out & realize, you've fumbled for real. wrote in Unilag.
On the alert... I received alert first, the lady that interviewed before me too, have received, we both came from Lagos. Whatever decision comes final from the mgt of NNPC, its alright be me, people like me, presently dey comfortable, i just want to be more, should NNPC fail to yield, their loss, I have my sight on several scholarships (full or partial) & heck, there are countries where Edu. is cheap (Austria, Germany, Italy), I have had previous offers from those countries. I know plenty here, are comfortable too either working privately or for the Govt., We just have to hold our heads high & remain focus. funniest, na play play, I take apply ooo, heck, i was even reluctant to go write the CBT sef, hence why i was the last 9am that appeared that day. Problem here, is that, most folk's here suffer from different complexes, the intimidated one's, the subjugated, the success infuriated one's etc, heck one guy even said as far as Jarus & Mosgoon never collect alert, his conviction of Non-Alertees are favored remains Olivine and I was wondering what will be his position, if Jarus & Mosgoon come out to say, that they've received alert. lolsss...
Like one of my Big Bro who left NNPC for AIRTEL will say, Na Alubarika matter, in his word's, He knew, several folks working in NNPC, whose lives were miserable, they live in peasant luxury.
The thread have been fun, i had LMAO several times.

Slammmmmmmm: I would actually love Jarus to share his interview experience with us I'd like to know how he answered his questions 1. Difference between NOC and IOC I told them and gave examples. Like 10 examples for NOC - NNPC (Nigeria), Aramco (Saudi), NIOC (Iran), KNOC (Kuwait), ADNOC (UAE/Abu Dhabi), Sonatrach (Algeria)..... They had to stop me and said "you seem to know so much about the industry" (I smiled) 2. Clauses in a gas sales agreement Told them the common ones (Payment terms, price, measurement, volume, delivery, termination, force majeure, taxation, obligations, interpretations etc) 3. Unsafe act vs unsafe condition Told them that one - unsafe act is any action that can lead to harm or injury blabla bla.Gave examples: "If we are 20 in this small room and the AC is not working, and we are all sweating under heat, that's an unsafe condition as it can lead to health issues; entering a project site without safety hat, an unsafe act What will you do if you see any unsafe act or condition? Correct if I can immediately and/or inform the safety officer 4. Inputs in a budgetinng process Initially couldn't fathom what exactly they meant. Was just talking on budgeting process before I was asked for specific inputs and we discussed price and production forecast. 5. Tell me about a process you initiated before Drew an example from my work 6. Tell me a time you needed to sell an idea Drew an example from a time I needed to convince my senior mangement on a major tax issue blabla A couple of other questions I cant remember |

Beeam: I once had an interview with one of the new owners of the split Gencos.
The panel was made up of many of those old staff of PHCN that the new owner inherited when they bought the company, they were asking such basic interview questions and everyone of them was just nodding at my answers like I was Obama delivering a State of the Union speech.
My liver was so shook after d interview that I reached out 2 my big cousin who is a snr manager in the same Genco, after d interview 2 tell him I was interviewed for an Asst. Mgr position and I wasn't sure of my performance cos the questions were sooooo cheap. He spoke with their HR mgr and found out I was one of the best performers. I still couldn't bliv until I saw their offer letter.
Sometimes, when u feel the questions are cheap, they are really cheap. Especially when u are interviewed by civil servants who have little or no professional skills/experience with conducting interviews. When you fell questions are cheap (and you answer it well), they are cheap. I don't believe all these talks about cheap questions as trap. |
