xfire: Thanks sibabe25 for the clarification.
Y'all need to chill
Sometimes, anxiety makes us think too far. Take a chill pill.
There is no absolutely no correlation between receiving TFare and APL. Ideally, everyone is supposed to receive tfare refund. There may be delay here and there when dealing with a large number of interviewees but it has nothing to do with APL.
You guys are even lucky to get your tfare refund on time. I cant remember exactly when we got ours but it was after several months.
This recruitment process seems to be much faster. I recently searched my inbox for the interview letter. I realized that I did my interview in July 2011, only to end up resuming August the following year. I think I got APL in June/July 2012.
Hopefully this will be way faster.
Good luck to you all.
Xfire Exactly. Everything is happening so fast in this year's recruitment. To think the advert was published in March, just less than 4 months ago, and everything - shortlisting, test, interview - has happened in less than 4 months. This is the fastest government mass recruitment I have ever seen. Even the alert that is coming less than 2 weeks after interview (compared to more than 6 months in 2012). NNPC has really improved in efficiency. |

Biolexxin: This is my 3rd time Commenting on this thread, pls permit me to react to the Claim of this Funny dude of having connections than everyone else here Jarus inclusive . Life is Simple if you follow Social principles and ethics, the apologies he made makes no sense to me cause his excuse holds no water. Baba this is a faceless forum, not everyone here is under 20, we have EH on this platform too, You don't know no body, it is rather boastful, Loud and arrogant of you to come here and claim your Link is the surest compared to everyone on this platform. That's an uninformed statement, not worthy of emulation, pls learn, learn not to boast in the face of others it never ends well. People also have links here, but the wise ones never boast about it. Lemme stop.
Am sure Jarus connections shocked the dude, and baba came apologising. My own only link up there is God, and he will never fail me. Peace. ✌ Waka Jeje Inside Life Even NNPC folks read this thread. I once posted a piece of information here from an NNPC "sauce" who doesn't know me by my NL moniker and the person saw what he told me on this thread (didnt know he reads this thread) and he asked if I was the one that posted it. From the multiple independent sources that confirmed it here, it is obvious they have started the reimbursement.
That's interesting. NNPC really means business this time around.
I understand the refund took several months after the interview for the 2012 recruitment.
I don't believe reimbursement has anything to do with APL. |

I just mention ur name in response to dos saying u not receiving alert yet is a reason y dos dat av received should be scared. And i dont tink its proper mentioning personal connection on public forum. Edit your post. I have edited mine. I was annoyed at that comment. If you noticed, I did not reply to all the comments about alerts and all that. I see them as more of internet trolling by people than serious comments that require response. People will always troll on the internet. Anyone that is familiar with the 2012 thread or knows how things work in government knows that it will not take less than 1 month for NNPC to start refunding people of their transport fare, or that alert does not have anything to do with APL. I ignored those comments until you dragged me in. |

Winchman: I can tell you that lots of Halliburton, Schlumberger and Baker Hughes folks are on the NNPC EH journey. When I said service companies would chew and spit you out, I was referring to them. There are incredible opportunities to be had with companies like SLB, HAL & BHGE. You get to work in remote places across the world. The pay is great especially as a field engineer, your field bonus which could be a fixed amount or even a percentage of your field ticket makes it so much better. SLB and Baker have training schools in Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively so that's where you go for your initial training. Advanced training would see you go to the US, usually Houston and Dallas. Maintenance folks at Baker go to Celle, Germany where they have a manufacturing hub. You could be in a pool of engineers that work for this Geomarket which basically means you work in all of West and Central Africa. Then you may become internationally mobile and go way beyond Africa. When you get to that point, you are on the track to the big leagues. Sounds good right? All these good stuff may be truncated the minute oil prices take a nose dive. Headcount reduction is the first cost saving measure they implement. At that point it won't matter if you had been trained in space or worked at some intergalactic wellsite, you could be sent home. It's a cycle of boom and burst. A lot of people want the stability and relatively mild atmosphere of the IOCs and NOCs while others live for the adrenaline of service companies. Gbam. I have a friend that joined Schlum in 2012. We were working in same company - a downstream company - before then. He is an engineer, me an accountant. We both moved around the same time. I joined an independent upstream company, he joined Schlum. His life changed. He was sent to Abu Dhabi for training. Junketing the world. Enrolled for a programme in Aberdeen. Oil price crashed in 2015 and my friend was thrown under the bus by Schlum. One of their many employees sacked. His rising career was truncated. Dont know where he is now. I have a similar story for another family friend with same Schlum (although that one later got a Middle East NOC but he struggled for the period Schlum laid him off). Oil servicing companies are very volatile. They dont care about the amount of training they have invested in you, they don't mind sacking half of their workforce at the slightest disruption in the oil industry. NNPC offers stability and relative security. If I get NNPC job today, na there I go retire (except OPEC comes calling - and OPEC career limit is just 7 years). I wont mind taking a N2m gross pay cut (per annum) to join NNPC, but what I'm hearing about the difference between the level I'm qualified for, is my headache. Difference too significant to sacrifice for. When we get to the bridge sha. |

ogiby86: I don't know why most ex-'Mckinsey staffs always go into coaching new graduates for the job role as most of them now choose to resign and start up their own consulting firms, hang their boots and sit by the bench. Getting that job is like enrolling for extra extramoral classes man. You don't get it with your normal smart brain..you need proper mentoring Lmao True. AntiMCU: I might be wrong but a finance/engineering degree in Nigeria presents lot of opportunities.
Can't say the same for other disciplines. Debatable. Mutiu Sunmonu, former CEO of Shell Nigeria studied Math and Computer Science. Ibe Kachikwu, former Vice Chair of ExxonMobil Africa, studied Law. But generally, engineering rules oil and gas industry because it's a technical industry. |

MumJ4J: The fact that he went for Jarus coaching shows he is the the type that always wants to learn from others; an important trait of great minds. That he is soliciting assistance on the Shell thread also buttresses this fact.
Please let’s enjoy the oil & gas conversations on this thread. Believe me, I have learnt so much on that front in the last 6 pages.
For example, I have never seen the kind of McKinsey interview questions on Jarushub until today. But I have done so many interviews in my life. So please let those of us who wants to learn enjoy the conversations. These guys are not abusing anybody but just sharing their experiences. Why do you think people write autographs?
As a matter of fact, if I were a GT I would be asking mosgoon about the ‘idea hub’ he previously mentioned. Information is what rules this world. Let’s take advantage of it when it is being freely shared. Thanks From what I have seen of the mosgoon guy on this thread, he truly knows his onions. He is versed in job matters. You may accuse him of exuberance but you can't accuse him of not being a smart dude. I was like that on Nairaland 10-12 years ago - that young dude that shared interview info everywhere - a happy-go-lucky fresh grad that just finished NYSC and spoiled with jobs. Interestingly, it was that passion for sharing interview tips/personal experience/experience of friends on NL that earned me "authority" status on career matters, which motivated me to form my own side hustle career firm in 2013. The small firm has a small office and 3 employees today. Also wrote a book on careers in 2014. It all started from Nairaland career section in 2007/2008. I never had any training in career matters. I'm an accountant/economist by training. |

Jarus: Now this is not to take anything away from NNPC as a very fantastic place to work. If I get a Manager or even DM position there myself, I will take it.
I personally wont take any oil servicing firm, even Schlum, ahead of NNPC for 3 reasons
1. At this stage of my career, if I make a job change, I would like it to be where I would spend almost all the rest of my career. NNPC guarantees that more than oil servicing firms
2. Oil servicing firms are very volatile - they lay off at the slightest issue with oil and gas industry.
3. I'm a support professional (not a core technical person like engineers, geologists etc), we have limited roles in the oil servicing because they don't own oil assets that involve complex finance function.
That said, if I were entry level and a technical person (engineers, geologists etc), and I have offers from NNPC and Schlumberger (not just any oil servicing), I may consider Schlum because of the international brand which can help in penetrating international oil and gas market. I have a friend that moved from Schlumberger Nigeria to Schlumberger UK then to Saudi Aramco.
But generally, NNPC offers more stability and security. @divads I answered similar question in the earlier part of this thread |

Haha, Victor cheng.. I jacked his videos ehn, before my interview. A 2-2 guy in my set got in whereas people on 4.9 didn't get in Even graduates of MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Caltech hustle for McKinsey. It's in the class of Facebook, Google, Microsoft etc (maybe slightly lower). mosgoon: hmmn, you are right sir Jarus. McKinsey.. For those interested in oil and gas and consulting with the bulk of the interest in consulting should try out McKinsey. Very competitive. That their PST, PEI.. Very tough. Their Partners are very cool people though from my chats with them after my last stage partner interviews.
The only problem with them if someone here is comparing with NNPC, is that they would suck the life out of you lol.. Meaning it's a very stressful, high pressure environment.. And while they pay very well in Nigeria for entry level - also called business analysts (albeit less than BCG, Bain in Nigeria alone when compared within the big 3), they still pay less than NNPC for entry level and NNPC should be far less stressful lol. But the international recognition you would get is up there as they are among the top management consulting firms in the world along side BCG, Bain.. Then the other tier follows.. The strategy&, Booz.. Etc
Once again if you like oil companies but love management and consulting more, McKinsey is up there referring places to begin a career McKinsey no be here o It is easier to get NNPC, even Shell, than McKinsey. Extremely competitive with very tough recruitment process. But easily one of the best places to work, globally. |

Winchman: That's truly exceptional considering that Shell isn't famous for fast progression. If that your friend was in the multinational service space, he may already be regional VP of a product line. However, service companies will chew and spit you out in a minute regardless of your achievements. IOCs offer better job security but a slower rate of progression. It's a trade off really. That's true. But Shell has a special career lane, can't remember the name, for high performers they see as the future of the company. He was identified as one within 2 years. He was seconded to an European country for 2 years for more exposure. You're right on multinational service space - the McKinseys and Goldman Sachs of this world. |
