Sempumping: Oga j ,own ke .I don't mean own o,i just want to be able to afford spending some hrs, days hiring, intercontinental ship cruising .I just like the sea life and I pray some day I can afford to those luxuries . Not a bad wish. You can start from short distance boat cruises in Dubai Creeks. With as low as N150k, you can ride in a yacht in Dubai. You don't need to work in NNPC to achieve that sef.

Andre92: @mosgoon, I strongly believe Jarus must have heard about this recruitment cancellation and wouldn't' come here to say anything because of the sensitivity of the issue. I was called toxic for quoting my source. Mind u I got this info from someome close to the GMD during their trip to mecca. I still maintain all we have to do is pray because the reality of things is that recruitment will be through the back door just like CBN. Ask your friends with reliable sources they have started sending in their Cvs. Cheers. I have no idea about any cancellation. My last conversation with my main source (who also reads this thread) was on Thursday. S/he had been out of Nigeria for some weeks but confirmed s/he was back and resuming next week. That was why I kept saying I may have update next week (Monday/Tuesday). I really don't like turning pest and bothering people. It doesn't look good to go back after promise of update next week and be asking for more information. I contribute here mostly when I have an opinion, an update or mentioned to respond to specific question. I have ignored most of the so-called theories because there is no point flogging them. I don't take any seriously. I saw the cancellation information/rumour when mentioned here yesterday (or was it this morning?) and ignored like others. It doesn't sound credible to me. I don't see any reason why NNPC will cancel this recruitment having come this far. But it's an opinion. I may be wrong. I cannot say for fact. My contact had promised to give update next week, I can't go back and be asking about cancellation - disturbing him/her on a weekend for that matter. But since you guys have asked for it, let me ask my 2 other sources that I have not contacted for some time. |

Tjayelbee: Jarus, Eid Mubarak!
The Corporation drafted its most Senior and Experienced Staff amongst others, across all Subsidiaries for the Interview Exercise. They all converged in Abuja for well over 10 days for that assignment, away from their duty posts. I believe the recruitment is one of the current important Projects the the Corporation is embarking on. It is naive to suggest otherwise.
Permit me to remind you Sir that the Corporation is still a Parastatal/Agency of Government, under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum with its operations subject to decisions of its Tenders Board, Governing Board, Ministerial Supervision as well as National Assembly standing committee's oversight. What you have painted is typical of what accrues in the Private Sector where there is full independence and near zero external pressure/influence. The Corporation is not immune to bureaucracy typical of Civil Service, let alone political influence.
However, I strongly believe the recruitment is transparent and credible thus far. In fact, it might even end with little or no influence depending on how certain things play out (I wish I can say more on this). We all know the President's Chief of Staff is a member of the NNPC Board, this is somewhat a plus to Mgt. I just felt it was needless to run into the arms of 'hungry' new politicians with the recruitment when they could simply end it. DPR 2013 utilized that window period if you recall, NNPC tried same in 2011 but dragged feet till Diezani came and put a halt on it. The union had to protest before she 'okayed' it in 2012. I understand its a whole different scenario now.
I don't think I have suggested anything contrary to what you've stated regarding the what is expected of the Board Chair, and his roles. Though it is also pertinent to mention that major contracts approvals and procurement implementation is handled by the Tenders Board while approvals for work programmes and corporate plans/budget is handled by the Governing Board. They are not the same.
I work in an Agency under the Presidency. I started a postgraduate program in 2016. It will interest you to know that approvals for something as trivial as Study Leave, or Secondment, Or even Leave of Absence goes all the way to our Governing Council. The SGF is a member of the Council. You can just imagine. Its not the same in some other parastatals.
I agree with you some of the concerns may seem to just be over-flogging the issue, as they may have been taken care of already.
I wish us all the best. Thanks for engaging! All points are agreeable. You're welcome. I prefer to be addressed as Jarus on Nairaland. Kindly edit your opening statement. Those who quoted him should kindly edit the quote in their comments too pls. Thx |

Tjayelbee: There’s simply no reason why this recruitment should surpass this week, honestly. All has been done and dusted. Interestingly, the President is inaugurating his cabinet next week. The management of the Corporation is well aware of what that implies.
The President appointed Dr. Thomas John to perform the statutory functions of the Petroleum Minister as it relates to the Corporation (being it’s Board Chair), amongst which is ratifying/signing the recruitment ‘into law’. The coming of a New Minister on August 21st can possibly slur the process onwards, or not. There’s also possibility of influence from other Cabinet Ministers.
As regards payments of Transport Fares, it is logical to suggest that it is a bottom-up payment pattern starting mostly with people interviewed on later days. Although, even at that they seem to be ‘picking’.
Yesterday, I spoke with someone who had been giving me superb Info, whether there was new updates (as I’m also having conflicts resuming school). Although he’s out of office, he maintained 2nd/3rd week of August for notifications and September for resumption. I just believe current/updated information is air-tight and within certain circle.
Let’s keep hope alive. All the best folks! I think we are giving too much weight to this recruitment in the national scheme of things. NNPC is recruiting GTs, few supervisors and a couple of Managers - low level people in the NNPC scheme of things, not to talk of national petroleum industry. It is not that COOs or GGMs are the ones they are sourcing for. If change in executive management within NNPC did not significantly stall the process, I don't see how inauguration of ministers has anything to do with issuance of offer. For NNPC Board approval, if at all it is required for this recruitment, it is usually before commencement of the whole process (usually included in annual budget of the organization, and in few cases, specific approval at Board meetings). Even if final post-interview list still has to be approved by NNPC Board, there is nothing that says the current NNPC Board cannot do that. We all know the Minister of Petroleum is statutorily the Chair of NNPC Board, but we have an alternate Chair in the absence of minister and Board meetings can still hold. NNPC Board has far more important things (like project approvals, state of the global industry etc) to discuss at Board level than recruitment of low level NNPC employees. My 2 cents. |

adeakin777: This begs the question, if it has been ready for a long time why has there been no notification yet to the successful candidates on the outcome of the interview conducted? In my humble postulate, the delay is making this process look chary. Someone here said the list was with the GMD. I presume if that was the case, has it gone through FCC? If i read correctly, 1 or 2 persons have confirmed that it has gone through FCC.
Well, i would think the list must have gone through the management of the organisation first before going to FCC and when it is approved by FCC, the validation of the list by the management team should be seamless. This would be based on the logic that very little influences could be made on the list after FCC's approval, this is just a presumption. Otherwise, there would be no need for FCC's approval in the first place.
This is becoming tiresome. Nothing tiresome or out of order yet, in my view. By my hunch immediately after the interview sessions, I guessed "before end of August". And that was because the recruitment has been fast so far. The period between interview and offer is the most protracted stage of any recruitment process, more so for a company of NNPC size, and for a government company with many layers of processes. A lot of approval and review layers. And the elephant in the room - a lot of politics too. The interview process ended on 12th July. Today is 15th August - just 5 weeks after (2 days public holiday even in-between). Don't let us forget there is also a change in executive management (GMD and COOs) along the way. So, I don't think there is anything frustrating yet in this recruitment processes. |

menipo: Have you guys considered the fact that this is a typical federal government recruitment?
So it cantr be different from the rest. Meaning every member of board will have one or more candidates, President and Vice will also have theirs.
Senate president and committee members will have. APC chieftains will have etc...
Las las only about 5% of us will make the list.
All management candidates will come from endorsed Godfathers.
Believe it or not.
At least I know of a God father that has 3 slots and he's not even an APC chieftain.
So guys chill and relax....I've been here before to know how these things work. We all know not everyone will get the job on merit. But 5% is needlessly alarmist. Not less than 50% will get the job on merit. Could be as high as 70%. I have seen many people that got jobs in such institutions without knowing anyone. Strive for that slot and forget the connection mentality. |

Oga Jarus you're a treasure trough and your contributions are quite a bliss.
Local men and women, pls anyone who has accurate knowledge regarding this request should help me and this guy, and of course other silent ones who may seek such quest tacitly. I would choose fully funded PhD in a top 5 US school over NNPC. It opens better opportunities. PhD in a top school is highly coveted in the international job market. My friend that did his PhD, also fully funded, in a Top 20 US school got Shell US job almost immediately after finishing. |

I think my counsel was right. The guy is now a Senior Manager in Forte Oil. If he chose NNPC in 2012 (as a GT), he would at best be in SS4 (senior officer) in NNPC today. Of course he may currently not be earning what a Manager in NNPC earns, but it will compare with SS1 or SS2 at worst. |
