Good one Jarus
Chei we have 50 already. Inspired (auto section), Pataki, eldee, Akin Alabi, amakaone are super peeps too
It's a pity these guys couldn't make my list. They are all quality Nairalanders. I remember doing a small research on pataki but due to his having more than one usernames(mrpataki, pataki etc), I couldn't get full info on him. Akin Alabi is also a legend no doubt. Due to space, we were constrained to leave the list at 50.
Anyways, they are all honourable mentions.

tkb417:
Nyways as for my greatest 5

In no particular order
They are
1) Debosky
2) Dayokanu
3) Sauron
4) Dr Kitaun
5) Davidylan

Those are my picks and I swear they are wonderful and worthy REPs of NL
Good. Let's keep them coming.
Family › Re: Top 10 Most Important Nigerian Families Of The 21st Century by Jarus(m): 10:30am On Mar 28, 2010
2000-2010: Family in the news, not personality.
1, Babangida family: Recurring name in presidential aspiration; death of Maryam; Aisha's marriage to Zamfara guvnor
2, Yar'adua family: Not only by virtue of being the presidential family, but also the many mention of Turai and her dughters almsot on minute basis. Now Murtala, another family member is in teh news.
3, Saraki family: Son (Bukola) bestrides Nigeria's political firmament as one of the most influential personality; father(Olusola) still in the news as ever; daughter(Gbemisola) also always in the news, if not rumours of her gubernatorial ambition, her affairs in the Senate
4, Jonathan family:: Everybody knows Patience, not that active as she is. She is also sometimes in the news. The debate on who is teh First Lady between her and Turai when GJ ascended acting Presidency. Needless to talk about the husband.
5, Uba family: News, news, news everyday, if not on Andy, on Chris.
6, Ibru family: The family has always been in the news, but doubly so recently, thanks or no thanks to Cecilia. The whole family were in the news when they were also reported to have vowed to invoke their ancestors on Sanusi

Kobojunkie:
On the contrary, I believe what we need are desperate individuals; individuals desperate for change and willing to stand and fight to get in to change things. I am not certain of the particular man's personality but if he does not have what it takes to fight to get the work done, then I am afraid we need not push for him to get the seat. I say this because I have seen how we flippantly excuse the many blunders of those we chooses as 'HEROES' in all this. A good example is Dora Akunyili. Yes, she may have done good( according to what I heard) at NAFDAC. As minister, she failed BUT people are so willing to turn a blind eye to the fact that she just did a very bad job as minister, and are willing to allow her continue to another leadership post when it is all too apparent that she is not cut out as one of those to bring change to Nigerian politics.Either that or she is just another politrickian.
With due respect, I disagree with this, even as I like your fine analysis.

By not being desperate here, it is obvious that what the man is avoiding is getting enmeshed in the dirty political storm just because he wants to serve his fatherland. This will surely do more harm than good to his personality as it almost did to Bode Agusto, who in a bid not to give in to politics, was labelled 'arrogant', even as everybody acknowledged his brilliance. Like Sanusi floored those Senators the other day, he may also use his brilliance to muscle them aside, but if that doesn't work(and it hardly works with PDP people) I don't know of any decent 'desperative' means he can use to get the nod of the Senators, if not going dirty himself.

i'll nominate Lady T, stephenP, Wesleyan (not sure if that's the right spelling), Amakaone and sisikill
'spity none of them is that frequent any more (LadyT and StephenP have pretty much left NL)
but they were legendary in their boards of specialities as well as all through the forum (if i might say so)
Thanks for your contribution. Unfortunately, the list is complete.
Much respect to the nominees up there.

I'll start:

"How am I", not "ow are mine"

wink
I honestly don't think anybody, not even Becomrich, will spell 'How am I' as 'ow are mine', except when hurriedly typing and totally caring less about what one is typing.
"Beauty", not "Builty"
Difficult to believe this too, never seen it.

counterpart not cantapant
This one seems agreeable. 'Counterpart' is just big word to some people.

Great work Jarus. The list is cool. They are legends indeed and i think Orikinla should be added, he was one of those that built the Literature section. Fhemmmy:
I am not sure he will do good with EFCC, the dude will be afraid to have the powerful in the north convicted
If you know or follow SLS very well, you surely will not say this.
Sanusi is a straight shooter that is fearless of any body.
FYI, SLS is a veteran of many wars since 1997.
He was one of the men behind Radio Kudirat that fought Abacha junta in the late 90's.
He has fought the Arewa Conservative Forum
He has fought Kano governor to the extent that the state government, as I read, ordered the movement of their funds from UBA. See his article: 'Shekarau and his Aji No Moto Economics'
In 2003-2005, he also fought the most respected Islamic scholar in the north, late Sheikh Ja'afar, the extent that he was almost lynched in Kano
He has written strongly against the IBBs and co.

I don't think Sanusi will be afraid of convicting any body, northern or southern, so unless the governemnt of teh day doesn't give him free hand.

And I'm talking, having read Sanusi's writings between 1997-2008 and knowing the type of person he is.

Politics › Re: Cbn Debtors’ List (October 2009) by Jarus(m): 3:00pm On Mar 26, 2010
Call me ignorant but is it alright to publish name of debtors to the public ? Isn't it supposed to be confidential or something ?
youngmonie:
I believe most people on this nairaland would refeer to themselves as graduates or adults, so let start thinking positively and criticize constructively. First of all I have never seen any where The governing financial institution publish a list of debtors of banks in such countries and in the case of nigeria, its d same people dat are on the list again, der are other ways to recover money dan publishing customer names on the,. And this so called debtors can even sue the CBN for breach of confidentiality, S o sanusi is just out of this world
If I still remember my Business Law faintly well, you need to be educated that the so-called confidentiality of Banker-Customer relationship has three major exceptions;
1, Public Interest: If revealing the information publicly will serve public interest
2, Court Order: If the courts orders such
3, Written permission of customer

Needless to say the first exception flatly covers CBN's action. Doing so, he has been able to save the nation's economy from impending ruin if the banks were allowed to collapse.

Still wondering why the exposed customers cannot sue Sanusi?

Of course i know Abdul Wahab RA but point of correction is that his views are in no way near the dominant view in sunni islam and even his some of his ideas never started with him but with Shaikul islam ibn Taymiyyah that is why i traced the issue to 700 years. Abdul wahhab came in the last 150 yrs and was a scholar and made mistakes like every one he took some issues to real extreme although we should remember the situation at that time was dire as in muslims will worship the grave and sacrifice at grave and all sorts so there needed to be a radical approach to direct the muslims back to the real path. that i swhy i make excuses for some of his views but i diasgree with modern scholars who take all his views verbatim and apply it now. May Allah bless the hardwork of Abdul Wahhab and ibn taymiyyah.
Oh, Imam Ibn Taymiyyah. . . awon alfa agba niyen. . .I admire that scholar no be small. He is an encyclopedia of Islamic knowledge. I always look out for his works translated into English and I have learnt alot from them.
May Allah continue to bless him.

A source said: "As for Kwara State, it is a
battle royale between the Chairman of the
Governors’ Forum, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the
Chairman of the Presidential Advisory
Committee, Gen. T. Y. Danjuma.
"Saraki had already re-nominated the
immediate past Minister of Transport, Alhaji
Isa Bio Ibrahim from Kwara North Central
District, but Danjuma insisted on the choice
of his former Special Assistant, Mr. John Dara,
from Kwara South.
"Both the governor and his father, Dr. Olusola
Saraki, who supported the emergence of
Jonathan as Acting President, have called the
bluff of Danjuma."
Now, this is interesting. . .let's see who's more powerful

In Lagos, the PDP is protesting the choice of
Mr Olusegun Aganga as the state’s
representative in the cabinet.
In other words, why a technocrat, instead of a professional PDP politician?
The nomination of Mrs. Josephine Anenih
from Anambra State confounded a former
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP,
Chief Tony Anenih, it was learnt. He is said to
be worried over the motives of those who
picked his estranged wife for minister.

Politics › Re: Sanusi Plot To Restore Bank Of The North by Jarus(m): 8:57am On Mar 26, 2010
@ OP

The article doesn't say Sanusi plots to restore BOTN. It was a rebuttal to another article. Neither the first article nor the rejoinder says SLS wants to restore BOTN. The writer of the first article adduced a regional reason for Sanusi's 'clampdown' on bankers, while the rejoinder says it could not be so.

Between, learn to give reference to source of articles posted or credit to author.

The only thing I'm impressed with so far is the names that have been tipped to replace Iwu. I mean Jega, Williams and Agbakoba. Now that Jega is a VC, I'm not very sure he wont have compromised the activism posture he demonstrated as ASUU president. If GJ can give any of these men INEC job, then he would be winning people's confidence.

As for the ministerial list, it appears like any other ministerial list we've had in the past. One or two technocrats, others are professional politicians.
Much has been said about this Olusegun Aganga guy and we hope in him we will have another Okonjo Iweala.
I'm not impressed seeing on the list people that have held ministerial appointments in the past like Jubril Martins Kuye, Sanusi Daggash, and Shamsudeen Usman that was not impressive as Finance minister.

Seeing Anenih's wife on the list finally nails the coffin of my pessimism.
