PoliticsRe: The Controversy Over Lagos. . . .na Who Own The Land ? by jason123: 12:29pm On May 07, 2012
In one Nigeria, Igbos could leave their properties in Port harcourt during the civil war. In one Nigeria, angry Deltans could make Northerners leave Delta/Edo state within a week. In one Nigeria, angry Northerners could make Igbos almost have a refugee crises about a few months back. How much more a break-up/split?!
PoliticsRe: The Controversy Over Lagos. . . .na Who Own The Land ? by jason123: 12:25pm On May 07, 2012
I can't believe people are still arguing this.

Anyone with a brain can tell that if Nigeria remains ONE, then, every Nigerian has a right to Lagos and other cities.

If there is a break up, you'll become aliens in these cities and might be deported.

onye_ngbu*:
You guys are becoming more desperate about nigeria's break up more than the biafrans.
What happened grin is it because of abandoned properties or could it be that the northerners are disappointing you guys already in the current nigerian arangement?

what ever it is, stop praying that nigeria will disintegrate cos it might never happen and there might no longer be owners and settlers in lagos in the next 50 years. Can you tell me who is a settler in New York? Do yoruba people not also own lands in new York?
There will still be as long as there are Yorubas in other states. This is simple logic.

Yes they do but they obey the laws of the land. If they are not US citizens and the State government decides to get rid of them, it will be done by deportation. The same thing can be applicable.

PoliticsRe: ACN Governors Demand Security System Reforms. by jason123: 12:13pm On May 07, 2012
lagerwhenindoubt: Not to discount the seriousness of the need for State-Controlled Security especially since it has been evident for the past 50 years that the National Police Force is severely handicapped in terms of Intelligence, Personnel, Equipment, Education and Training and most importantly Social independence and Discipline..

not until i read through to the end I was almost going to give praise to this "Progressive Step" by ACN Governors, but I strongly foresee a situation where a State-Controlled Police (given our history of poor transparency and violence even at State-levels) will turn this into a private "grudge-settlement" force. just imagine the comments coming from Oshiomole and Aregbesola. it is saddening that at such a level they cannot save the citizens the psychological trauma of their Political conflicts

I am pleasantly surprised coming from Aregbesola, one who is quick to raise fears of non-Muslims in his state given the delicate nature of ethnic and religious relations in the country .
Oshiomole more than anyone else is displaying a level of un-professionalism that betrays his outspoken claims to good governance (perhaps this is what is standard in Nigeria these days)

Given comments of Bros Aregbs and Comrade Oshiomole I can see where this is leading to - Having a State Police is good but in the hands of Politicians who cannot differentiate between the needs of their citizens and there personal political ambitions, it is a dangerous path to thread.
Agreed!

FIVE REFINERIES?! What quantity of oil do they have?! Rubbish!

On a side note: So Ogun state have Oil?!

DaLover: The Bendel people had it so good under Awolowo that they fought night and day to break free from him...r u in your right state of mind at all? Check the history of Uniben, and how Oba of Benin and other notable mid westerners ad thy were caled then fought to get their own school, because they felt marginalized
when Cocoa was funding west, there was resource control, what is bad in asking for it to be re-instated...or your monkey brain cannot grapple this concept...

See Yoruba man whats to decieve us again oo, we 9ja deltans should split the country and you will turn around, combine with the north and fight us....We saw how Awo did it previously....You guys should start first ...we are following closely behind...we want to split tooo...but we r behind you...shebi you have OPC, you have seen mend taking on Nigerian armed forces, lets see OPC, then we will follow...not the other way round ...
I'm not into this argument but I have to correct the impression on your first paragraph.
It was MAINLY an NCNC initiated split not because Mid-westerners were suffering.
Read professor Omoruyi's account!

I WAS INVOLVED AS A PARTISAN POLITICIAN

I am hesitating to write about the story of the creation of Midwest or Edo State, for another reason. I was an active partisan politician at the University of Ibadan opposed to both the NCNC and the AG, the two popular political parties in the two provinces of Benin and Delta. I was also a political science student at the University of Ibadan with a knack for the drama in the Western Region and its impact on the politics of 1964 Federal Elections.

It is simplistic to label the NCNC as pro-Midwestern Region from the abundance of the goodwill of the Igbo or their leader, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. It is also simplistic to label the AG as against the new Region from the wickedness of the Yoruba and their leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Maybe we should ask few questions.

What was so special about Midwest that was absent in the Calabar-Ogoja-River State?

Why should the NCNC support the creation of a Region in the West and not in the East and in the North?

How many of us appreciate the strategic decision of the NPC to go southwards in 1962 during the intra-party crisis in Action Group in the Western Region?

How many of us appreciate the impact of the monumental crisis in Yoruba land in 1962 on the creation of the new Region?

How many of us appreciate the bond between Chief FS Okotie-Eboh and Alhaji Muhammadu Ribadu?

How many of us appreciate that this bond more critical than what the NCNC appreciated to the creation of the Region?

How many of us knew of the relationship between Apostle John Edokpolor and the Sardauna of Sokoto?

How many of us knew how that impacted on the creation of the Midwestern Region?

How many of us knew why Apostle John Edokpolor was made one of the Commissioners during the Interim Administration of the new Region?

The best thing is for everyone to negotiate! Any use of force by the "now aliens" will be seen as a threat to the sovereignty of the new country/countries and the military might will come down on such! Not only Lagos but Rivers, Abuja and possibly Delta, Kaduna and Kano!
PoliticsRe: The Controversy Over Lagos. . . .na Who Own The Land ? by jason123: 10:41pm On May 06, 2012
Sorry guys, but this is Africa and that is how things work. Except of course, you wanna deceive yourself!
Well, I don't pray for such!

Once Nigeria disintegrates, it goes back to the Bini and Yoruba people!
PoliticsRe: The Controversy Over Lagos. . . .na Who Own The Land ? by jason123: 10:38pm On May 06, 2012
Onlytruth: Honestly, I never expected anything less from these guys.
I wasn't trying to argue or convince them of anything. The fact that Nigeria is unresolved is messing up a lot of brains.
My position addresses a FINAL solution to the Nigerian national situation.
Abandoned property can only survive in a united Nigeria (because some people need to use it to keep people down). In a disintegrated Nigeria, all issues will be resolved one way or another. No land would be stolen from anyone. cool
You buy a land as a Nigerian, you own it post disintegration. cool
If that did not happen in 1967 in YOUR Eastern region and Port-harcourt for that matter. If that did not happen in Borno when an Igbo man was tryying to sell his house for peanuts. What in world makes you think it will happen nowhuh Keep deceiving yourself. What ever makes you sleep, right?

shymmex: Why do you keep spamming this thread with 9ja delta?

Please, talk about your lousy Ijaw tribe - which produces minimal amount of crude oil in Nigeria.. There is no 9ja delta - it's just a political acronym for oil producing states... The Itsekiris, Ilajes, Ibibios etc. don't want nothing to do with Ijaws.. Talk about your lousy Ijaw tribe and what you guys bring to the federal coffers.

The olu of Warri has already warned you guys to stay away from Warri - adhere to that, and stop spamming this thread, clown.
I just saw your comment. Like wtf?!

PoliticsRe: Pictures Of Lagos Before Crude Oil And Independence by jason123: 5:56pm On May 05, 2012
DaLover: And who is beefing lagos? R u sure u have been following the thread...people tried to say Lagos was developed in a particular way and another set of people said no... How does that amount to beefing Lagos?

I have pointed out that the reasons for development are...1..the way the british treated it differently from other places initially, 2...it later was the capital of the country, and benefited from funds from across the county 3...Growth in Lagos exploded with the oil boom...

But someone here says it the level of tolerance of the people....can u beat that reasoning?

Pls kindly show me where the 13% only applies to 9ja delta states?...because my understanding is that 13% should apply to all revenues generated by states.
Please dont make me lauge further by saying lagos state is producing so much oil but does not need the extra 13% from oil.....because i know for a fact that Lagos has being trying to get more money from the VAT, and port revenues....i dont believe they will let that substantial revenue go becuase or what u call oil.politics.....

Its either they produce no oil or very little.....but that still does not negate the fact that oil from the.9ja deta played a major role in development of lagos
The 13% stuffs only works for Niger-delta states! Anambra and Lagos produce oil (you saw the picture), Ogun produces cement (highest in the country), yet there is no 13% percent money from anywhere. There is no other way to explain it.

As for the oil money developing Lagos, if I can recall correctly, OBJ ceased the funds to the state for some time yet, the state did not collapse. In as much as Lagos collects oil money from Abuja. It did not, in anyway, build Lagos because saying that means Lagos was built from the start like Abuja and that was not the case!
PoliticsRe: Akpabio Inaugurates Phase II Of Ibom International Airport by jason123(op): 5:48pm On May 05, 2012
eyenCalabar: Akpabio is another politician to watch out for. He should be eating with Fashola 'cos they have like minds. But even in the midst of 9ja rot and corruption, we still have leaders who are willing to try for it ppl not my woman governor who can even fall asleep delivering speech let alone thinking of doing anything good other than taxation. Our airport here very old. Kudos to the man.
Very solid point! We need people like him as OUR leader! Over 80% of his budget is committed to capital expenditure!
