This thread is the best so far on NL. My contribution is that Nigeria is the world's largest producer of Yam. Early yam (harvested from July) comes from Onitsha, Oguta, parts of Rivers state along the River Niger basin. Late yam (from Nov) is produced from most Northern and middle belt areas with Benue topping d list. However most of the yam eaten in UK and USA are imported from Ghana. I wonder why we cannot develop this potential forex earner.

Agriculture has the potential to directly enrich people at the grassroots. Theses resources (as well as natural deposits) are badly needed abroad (especially in Asia). The govt (politicians) are not interested in agriculture & natural resources because they can't easily enrich themselves from it like they can do from crude oil.

Agriculture is the highest employer of labour in Nigeria as we speak.

That is why I prefer Southern Nigeria to this Igbo vs Yoruba roforofo. I have all Southern Cultures in  my group and I wouldn't be surprised if I have Ijaw blood in me. The only reason why its like I am against Igbo is because of some E-characters that want to annex the SS into their utopia.
