PoliticsRe: APGA Motto Should Be: Steady Development, Zero Debt. by jason123: 12:38am On Oct 01, 2011
Obiagu's POV is respectable. I see him as a low-risk investor. As long as the "loans or debts" are put to good use, which will in-turn, attract MORE investors. I see nothing wrong in that. The newly attracted investors will not only create job opportunities, pay taxes etc but will also improve the life of the citizens in APGA states, by improving the infrastructures in the state and increase the wealth created in state.

Some debts are worth it! APGA is too cautious . . . undecided

I totally agree with what you said! Especially
dem_people:
The solution to our problems are very few but powerful but our leaders past and present were and are busy fighting based on ethnic sentiments and selfish interests.

If our founding fathers had the vision to formulate a powerful homogeneous Nigerian ideological bonding culture with Africanism as the state religion while frowning upon/rejecting Islam and Christianity then ofcourse, Nigeria would've led the black race out of the woods.

If our founding fathers had visions, we would've had a native lingua franca spoken not just in Nigeria but other West African countries. Hausa is the most widely spoken language in West Africa. Hausa should have been made the lingua franca of all West African countries with the modernizing of the Nsibidi character system to be used in its writings. English itself is written using the latin alphabets.

The British empire would never had been successful at all with only the ethnic English people. The Welsh, Scots and Irish made it a success story and guess what, the Welsh, Scots and Irish all have their indigenous languages but English was the language of instruction and communication for the empire. Imaging the damage it would've been if a foreign language was propagated upon the British e.g French, German and Spanish. There probably would never had been a British empire at all.

Sometimes I think you dont know Nigeria very well. Nigeria is a place where people move with the crowd.
Lekki was very empty before, wetin happen?
Lagos abeokuta expressway was like a jungle before, wetin happen?
Abuja was filled with snakes baboon and gorrilla jumping from trees to water, wetin happen?
Port harcourt wasnt filled yorubas before, wetin happen?
People are trying to find the natural habitat that best suits their life style.
Tinapa got the attention it deserved when it started but wetin happen?
You can never say bros. Things dey change and swing any how. That's Nigeria for you oo.
Haba, bros. I stayed in Naija for quite a while. I know wetin you dey yarn na!

Please banish the thought of Urhobo's or any other old Bendel ethnic group ever joining the SW. Nobody wants to run from one slavery to another; read the history of why the old Midwest freed itself from the SW. These aint times for naivety my brother, at worst we will all form a new country based on the the borders of the old Bendel state.

Don't be in the least decieved by Edo being ACN, its just the party in power; they are heart and soul SS people. In fact, at the time GEJ was struggling, the PDP states in the SS held a meeting to strategise on how to support their man. Edo state was extremely bitter at being shut out of the struggle and forced themselves on the meeting (I'll post a link if I can find it). Also, Adams Oshiomole very openly campaigned for GEJ against Ribadu. All the nonsense about Edo and the SW exists only in NL fairy tales.
If you have been reading my thoughts in this issue, you'll know that I agree with some of what you said (in case you are unsure, read Kpodege's threads and others). My first choice is Southern Nigeria! My second choice is to be with the Edos! My last choice is Odua, even at that, we must operate Federalism. When the time comes, I can assure you that most SSouthern ethnic groups will RUN from ND republic because of the Ijaws. Most will prefer Igbos and/or Yorubas to just a country with Ijaws as the majority.

About ACN and Edo, no one is being deceived. After all, ACN won two seats in Anambra. I can't used that to conclude that "Ndi Anambra will join Odua". My POV is, if the Oba of Benin opts for Odua for one reason or the other, most of Bendel will. If not, then NO.
In fact, you'll be shocked when you hear the the Ogoni/CR/Akwa Ibom, say they want to form their own country. Edos might say they want to form their own country.

I personally think that the ND is too heterogeneous to form a republic without the same "Nigeria issue" re-occurring! I see Oil and territorial wars in ND republic;and that is why I don't believe in it. This is my point of view.

It won't affect Lagos.
It might! You never know.
You really do not know the value of what you have until you lose it.

Beaf:
Lagos will only crash if Nigeria splits, because there is absolutely nothing to generate wealth there outside of trading. The financial sector, banks, insurance coys are all focused on oil, so those will melt away in a split (as will several headquarters).
Nah, Lagos has off shore oil. Most, if not all the states that have access to the Ocean, have offshore oil. Agreed, some companies will leave but I can't see Lagos being totally defranchised by a split because its positioning itself to be the "London" or "Manhattan" of West Africa. With the suspension bridge (its first in WA), to Eko atlantic (a business hub) to the LRT (rail way system) . . I really cannot see a "beaten-down" SW.

With that said, BEAF, you and I know that there CAN'T be a 3-way split in the south. I know you know that! cool
The Ibibios and co will almost certainly join the SE. The Edos and co(including your group, Uhrobos because of their Edo connection) will almost certainly join the SW.
Even some of the so called Eastern Ijaws (with all due respect) will join the SE.
The best bet is Southern Nigeria!  The Ijaws will be worse off in a 3-way split. You'll agree if you are being realistic.

Beaf:
What will affect Lagos in the long run is developments that are going on in Delta state (some will laugh, but wait two-three years cool). If these developments find synergies with the ports from Warri, Koko, through Bayelsa, Onitsha and with steel and iron ore moving between Lokoja and Warri, then we would begin to see the gradual dilution of Lagos as the premier economic hub.

It would be worse if the ports at Onne and the deep sea port in Akwa Ibom have new life breathed into them as seems to be happening. The Nigerian economy is diversifying and we should be ready for it.
Have you forgotten that some of the gas projects will be extended to Lagos as well? But yes, I agree, that will DEFINITELY affect Lagos but we have to wait and see. About being the economic hub, I don't see that changing. Other states like Rivers and Delta will certainly develop commercially but will they be able to compete with Lagos? I doubt that. Lagos is about to be the 3rd largest city in the world. I don't think Warri, Asaba and PH can compete with that labour force and brain drain.

Their best bet would be to sell to their neighbours - camerounians as they are closer abi will they have to do the long haul to the west or north to sell their goods?

They better get friendly with your people and the rivers people because that would be their market from now on and other neighbouring African countries.

I no send if dem succeed na dem wahala be dat.
Desola,
My POV is quite different from yours cool. What I'm saying is, I want to see a pre-mature Biafra. I want to know what it will look like since most Igbos will return to the SE. There will be no need for Lagos, Abuja and possibly PH and Warri. I also want to know how this will affect the economy of Lagos (they say, "you do not know the value of what you have until you lose it"wink. So much talk on NL about Lagos economy (no hate cool), so I want to know if Lagos will continue to grow or if it will be defranchised by this development.

As for "selling of goods". It does not stop SEasterners from selling goods to all Nigerians. It helps the economy and evens out development unlike what we have now, that is, the economic concentration in Lag, Abj, Rivers etc
"Aba-mades" are not as bad as you think grin. I once bought and wore some "aba-mades" while I was in Nigeria and I rocked it wella. Its just the fake drugs I don't like. Most of the other things that are made in "Aba" have similar, if not better, quality than the goods from China!

We urge both the federal and state governments to continue to cooperate to ensure that all our sea and river ports in Lagos, Olokola, Koko, Warri, Port Harcourt, Onne, Calabar and along the River Niger are constructed and maintained in readiness for the envisaged economic boom which many have prognosticated for Nigeria within a few years.

The roads, waterways, airports, Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and railways are great instruments not only for economic prosperity of nations but strong means of national integratino. We are glad that the Federal Government has decided to invest heavily in this direction, and urge them not to relent.

On the supply of electricity which is essential for the efficient operation of the rail system, Governor Fashola declared, "This project has been designed to supply its own electricity. We spent two and half years planning this project. We sought and found the best team, those who have done it successfully in other places of the world. Life is about planning and efficient management. We planned for the worst and we are hoping for the best".

PoliticsFg Seeks To Adopt Lagos Model For Igr, Traffic Management by jason123(op): 9:25pm On Sep 29, 2011
Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT,) Bala Muhammed, on Thursday led senior management staff of the ministry to understudy Lagos State success story in traffic management, environmental beautification, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and public-private partnership (PPP) policies.

Muhammed’s counterpart in Transport, Idris Umar, is also in Lagos on a tour of federal transport parastatals geared towards reviving the nation’s moribund railway system.

Muhammed, who was hosted at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, by Governor Babatunde Fashola, said it would be a waste of the nation’s resources not to understudy the highlighted sectors of the economy when the state had made an enviable inroad into them.

He said, “We have come cap in hand on behalf of the President to tell you that Lagos is working, we want you to imbibe in us that culture for Abuja to be able to secure”.

According to him, Fashola has directly placed Nigeria in a positive limelight through transformation of the state, saying, “I have come to underscore a pact; we have come to appreciate excellence and performance.

“You have shown leadership and responsibility; we appreciate how you use problem to offer solutions; Lagos, under your leadership, has shown that Nigeria is working,” he stated.

He explained that President Goodluck Jonathan is committed to transformation, sound institutional development and determination to redress religious differences in the country.

“We have always known and considered you as our brother and consultant on the need to raise IGR for the FCT,” he noted, explaining that a railroad system is on the way for the FCT to take care of large number of Nigerians trooping into the capital on a daily basis, saying, “90 per cent of people working in Abuja live outside the city”.

On Abuja master plan, Muhammed said the project is on course, adding that some people in Abuja don’t have habitation.

“They pass the day or night anywhere they find themselves; our master plan is to ensure that our satellite towns are patronised so that pressure could be reduced on the city, that is why we are demolishing houses”.

Responding, Fashola commended the minister’s courage to seek knowledge on how to further develop the FCT, recalling how the idea of the acclaimed street signage and green revolution in the state came about.

“There is no monopoly of knowledge. Let me say here that the street signage was copied from Abuja, so also the greener revolution copied from Abuja and Egypt to Lagos.”

Dapo, I clearly understand what you typed down. I'm not advocating for ethnic cleansing or anything in that line of though. What I am trying to convey to you is that Yorubas have a lacklustre attitude when dealing with issues. They lack that decisive spirit. They usually prefer to be on the "fence" even while their neighbours are in complete anarchy! I am not saying its cowardice but the "lay-back" attitude is somewhat annoying, to tell you the truth. It portrays Yorubas as untrustworthy. An attack on the SS (especially the ethnic groups I mentioned, that is, the Edos, Itsekiris and even the Uhrobos and western Ijaws) should be viewed as an attack on the Yorubas. After all, we are all brothers. I tell you, some Igbos are more "Yoruba" and SWestern than most Yorubas I have met.

The point is, we, the south, should start moving as a UNIT!!! Even if you want to play safe, just arm up and don't be caught sleeping!

Good line of thought.
It is a PP project. The private investors are/will be in-charge for the next 25yrs or so. Then, the State government will take over. As no know, no private investor wants to lose their investments. An example of this is the Lekki toll gates. The roads were rebuilt and are maintained by the PI sector, hence, the toll gate. The same will likely occur in this project. And hopefully, 25 yrs should be enough time for Nigerians to start electing sensible leaders!
