Business / Re: An Open Informal Letter To Beaf On Fuel Subsidy by jason2010(m): 7:17am On Oct 11, 2011
I see a patern here. Most of these folks that keep calling for the removal of the fuel subsidy do not even reside or have not been to Nigeria in a long time. These folks are disconnected as far as the issues that the average Nigerians has to deal with on a daily basis  They are looking at this fuel subsidy issue from a western (or non Nigerian) stand point, where every all the necessary infrastructures and refineries are in place. Some are also looking at it from what they learned in business school. And I totally understand that having lived 15 years in the US myself. How do you expect somebody that has been in the US or UK or anywhere that ain’t 9ja for over a decade to understand the possible hardships that the average Nigerian is gonna face once the subsidy is removed. I even read in an earlier post where somebody says that the corruption in the 9grian government is exaggerated. You got a guy in the ministry that places a six month salary of his entire Nigerian staff in fixed deposit accounts, and you telling me that the corruption is exaggerated? It is pointless debating this fuel subsidy with some of these folks that don’t live here. You will hardly see a Nigerian living in 9ja that is calling for the removal of the subsidy now.

Two days ago, an American buddy of mine also had the nerve to tell me that the Naira need to be devalued, and that the market should determine the price against usd. He failed to realize that one state governor can easily buy up all the dollar with looted state money, thereby creating scarcity of the dollar and causing the price the skyrocket. Typical example of a fella that is disconnected from what we face here in Nigeria.

Make una try come home first and see things from our point of view before una post on these issues

Great news. The removal of fuel subsidy + naira depreciation to 200 naira per $1 + the Super eagles disgraceful performance yesterday, clearly spells revolution in Nigeria. The revolution has been long overdue. Hopefully we can kill all the corrupt politicians as we revolt

Jason 2010 you are the most foolish man I have ever known. So you now abuse the man of God, what's if the prediction fails what would you have said. I know most of you are infidels who hate God if it is a White man like Benny Hinn you will be quick to believe. Whether you like it or not Prophet TB Joshua is a true man of God and believe me you or your household will have a reason one day to go there for deliverance because for sure you need DELIVERANCE

@ lovine: Your monkey a-s has got some nerves for calling me foolish for expressing my point of view. May whatever you wish me come to you. Reason why the country is messed up is because of fanatics like you that believe in these fake men, and can't use rational thinking to solve problems. Even the white men that introduced christainity to us are probably amazed at how facinated you are with these fake men.

But with 40,000 naira (bribe money o) per countainer (based on personal experience) any given importer can circumvent the examination. What does that mean? dustydee:

a generator is what produces the power you use in London. Without power generators there will be no electricity. And as you know(which I doubt since you don't know what a generator is) most of our modern day devices such as electronics and the computer or phone you used to ask this question run on electricity. In Nigeria, instead of having a central generator in the power plants that generates electricity for everyone, the roles are reserved and virtually everyone has a generator at home and generate their own electricity, that way they don't have to rely on anyone and control when they have electricity.(it's kinda flexible but more expensive, we are richer than Londoners that's why we chose this option) I hope that answers your question? if it doesn't you can use google or wikipedia. ciao. wink

Damn dustydee, you fell for that one grin. Why are you letting this arsenefc guy make a fool of you, you actually believed that he didn't know what a generator is?

Jakumo:

Wishing for more rich folks to get attacked by armed gangs will NOT assure anyone of safety, regardless of their own level of income.

Far more poor Nigerians are killed in their homes over chump change,  than are rich ones over cash millions in a bag or a flashy car, since bandits select victims of opportunity whenever and wherever they can find them, with no Robin Hood sentiments of stealing only from the rich to feed the poor.

Defend your home with deadly force.  God will sort the dead sinners from the innocent, and a good attorney will see to it that legitimate self-defense is recognized as such in the court of law.

Bros, I am not just wishing for more rich folks to get attacked, I am only wishing for the folks that has kept the masses in abject poverty be attacked and killed. Again, I just wish that Orji and his mom were killed in this attack. You could be rest assured that a vast majority of NLanders feel me on that. God has forgotten 9gria, we need to start using rational thinking to solve our issues rather than stretching our hands towards heaven and invoking God all the time

The Chicken has come home to roost. Bola Tinubu, Ohakim and the rest are next. I really wish he or his mother were killed. Read on

Dare-devil robbers yesterday stormed the Lagos residence of Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia state in Victoria Island and shot dead one of his domestic staff, Michael Ogbonna, and carted away N2 million.

The robbers were said to have trailed the deceased and two others, who had gone to the Adeola Odeku branch of Diamond bank, to withdraw some money.
Narrating the incident, an eye witness, Mr. Emenike Iguh said that the trio went to the bank at about 3.30 pm to withdraw some money and came back at about 4pm to meet strange faces.

“After collecting the money, we came back to the house, only to find two men standing near the compound. As we alighted from the vehicle, one of them came from behind and we suspected them and inquired about his identity and mission to the area,” he said. According to Iguh, as the conversation was still going on, they discovered that the men were armed. “As we discovered that they were armed, two of us quickly ran upstairs to lock up the security door, leaving Mike behind.

We were still there when we heard a gunshot. As we came back, we saw Mike in the pool of his own blood,” he said. The victim was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctors, as he was said to have been shot at close range.

As at the time of filing this report last night, the incident was still being reported at the Bar Beach police station, Victoria Island.
When contacted, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu declined comment saying that he had not been briefed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)in-charge of the area.

Neighbours were shocked and surprised at the incident since the Lagos residence of the former governor who now resides in Abuja is usually guarded by armed policemen.

Travel / Questions On Usa Embassy's Spousal Green Card Requirements by jason2010(m): 6:32pm On Oct 02, 2011
Folks, I need some help in reference to the US embassy (in Nigeria) requirement for spousal green card. Here is a little background info on my situation. US citizen, recently did my traditional wedding, and intend to take the wifey on a honeymoon to the US. My church wedding will be taking place in January next year.

Now here are my question/s:
By the US embassy's or INS's definition, would my traditional wedding or my upcoming church wedding constitute a marriage?

Secondly, if I want my wife to be in the USA by say February 2012, when do I need to start the application
process?

Heads-up or any other info from anyone who has been in this situation will also be highly
appreciated.

Thanks

Make una chill out for this poster. Nigerian men spoil their women. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the poster. It is just a different mindset here in 9ja. Period. I fought that mindset when I first arrived 3 years ago, and lost that battle. If you are in a relationship here in 9ja, you will definitely be breaking off cheddar (be it a mere scratch card) or else none of the girls will pay any attention to you except the fat ugly ones (even those ones will still have their hads out at some point). I don't care if you call me paymaster or donatus, it is just the way it is here. However in the US, the only girls that ever asked me for any kinda money are hoodrats. But note that even the so called hoodrats will only ask you for money to get their hair or nails done (at least that was my experience) not rent or any ridiculous stuff. Then again the poster's rent might be as little as 5k a months. This is just the way it is in Nigeria. Even bank workers have asked me for money. So it is just a different culture. (JUST MY ENTITLED POINT OF VIEW, AND PLEASE DON'T INSULT ME FOR IT)

Crime / Gun Violence At A Festac Club by jason2010(m): 10:28am On Sep 03, 2011
Mods help me move this to where it belongs, I no get the time to figure it out.

So, yesterday @ about 10;30pm, I decided to go kick it with my homie at a club called Heavens in Festac. We parked, got down from my car and started walking towards the club entrance. As we walked, we noticed a 2011 BMW X6 SUV that was being tailgated by an Xterra SUV at high speed immediately screeching to a halt. As the cars stopped, the BMW driver bursts out of the car and dashes into the club. There were three occupants of the Xterra. One of them, chased after the BMW driver with what appeared to be an AK 47, and another occupant also with an AK 47 just stood outside, while there was a driver that just sat in the SUV. In less than 5 minute after all that, the gun man that went inside the club came back out, and all hell broke loose. Gunshots, I heard over 30 gunshot (yes in Festac,), and I and every body else (including some of the bouncers) were hiding behind parked cars on that street (less than 100 feet away from the gun men). After all the gunshot, that lasted for like about 5 minutes, they just droved off at high speed.

Once we figured that it was now safe to come out, as usual, folks started asking what all that was all about. We got to learn that the driver of the BMW X6 actually owns the club, and the dudes were out to kidnap him. He was actually smooth, because he immediately disappeared and blended into the crowd once he ran into the club. That made it impossible for the gunman to catch him. We guessed that that infuriated that gunmen and they just became trigger happy and started shooting. NLs, my question is, why would somebody drive such a car (X6 2011 BMW) in Festac?

The funny part of the story is that 20 minutes after, about 8 members of the NPF shows up and just stated going crazing, and yelling “lock the gate, lock the gate, nobody moves, those gun men are still inside that club”. Meanwhile the gun men broke out 20 minutes ago. It was just waaaay to hysterical, I am still laughing as I type. Anyway, we still took our chances and went inside the club. Lol, business as usual like ain’t noting happened. If that was in the USA, the club would be shut down and all kinds of police squad cars would be there. Nobody shoots 30 rounds sporadically in the USA anyway. Moving forward, one of the bounces tells me that the gun man grabbed him and yelled at him to point out the owner, but he pleaded with the gun man that the club is too damn dark and crowded for him to do that.

Anyway, folks, I dey beg una, I know that we 9grians would always like to show off, and let the whole world know that we have arrived. If that club owner was driving a lower level SUV, like the 4runner that I drive, and kept a low profile, maybe his life wouldn’t be at stake. My people all that flossing ain’t worth it oh. Meanwhile my homie from Chicago, has vowed not to come back to 9ja once he goes back on Monday.

I just hope that they don’t spray that air freshener stuff into the airspace in the cabin before take off like BA and KLM. The Royal Dutch airlines, KLM did that sh-t two months ago. What I found interesting is that they only sprayed it on our way from Lagos to the Schipol in Amsterdam, but they did not spray it on our way to Detroit. I guessed that since the demographic of most customers on board at that time had changed from Nigerians to American Caucasians no need for them to spray it. Were they suggesting that we stink or was it standard procedure?
