I am so pained by the blatant lies and deception that is on show here.

Honestly, if I had my way I would put a bullet in the head of each person involved in this financial jamboree.

Mind you, I am from the east.

The Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa is a typical example of a Nigerian government ministry.
The moment you step in there, you are hit by the unproductive and nonchalant aura that characterizes the office of a Nigerian federal ministry.
What makes it worse is after experiencing the responsiveness and wonderful service you receive from Canadian government institutions such as Service Canada one has to put up with the attitude and nonchalant behaviour in a place that should be 'your home away from home'
I dont want to go into details of my personal experience with them when I wanted to verify my Nigerian Drivers Licence last year. It was simply terrible.

You would hope that the situation changes but when you look at who GEJ appointed as the High Commissioner last year (Ojo Maduekwe), what more can you expect.

Stop insulting the man and his family! Stop insulting his tribe! Stop insulting his village! That is not criticism. That is tribalism! You people are fuelled by hatred and tribalism and you come to NL to post crap all day. Tell me one progressive post from page one that is geared towards moving Nigeria forward. Stop the nonsense. Prof Wole Soyinka has advised Jonathan to curb the excesses of his wife (a mere domestic apendage of power). That's a statement geared towards moving Nigeria forward.

Politics / I Feel Great Pity For Labaran Maku – Fashola by jawjaw1: 6:05pm On Jun 06, 2013
Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has accused the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, of losing his sense of judgement within the short period he has stayed on the corridor of power. Fashola stated this in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday while faulting the claim by Maku at a ministerial briefing in Abuja on Monday that the Lagos governor had not achieved anything in office.

In a statement signed by the state commissioner for information, Lateef Ibirogba, Fashaola also expressed a great pity for the minister.

The statement reads in part, “We read with a sense of pity the story credited to the Hon. Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, denying the verifiable achievements of His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, the Governor of Lagos State.

“On one hand we feel great pity that Mr. Maku has within a short time lost touch with the ethics of Journalism which emphasizes accuracy, objectivity and facts. On the other hand, we pity the country if the man with the status of Hon. Minister of Information can descend so low as to misinform the world with such impunity.

“Although his reason for such inflammatory remarks is still hard to discern, he would have done himself and the nation much good by limiting himself to his brief rather than dabbling into issues he knows next to nothing about.

“In an assignment such as Ministerial briefing, as Lagos State had just done while marking the 6th anniversary of His Excellency, all Maku would have done in his remarks was to concentrate more on the achievements of the Federal government if there is any and if there was nothing to report ( as is clear from his vituperation) he could still have done himself a world of good by keeping quiet (as journalism dictates) than exposing himself to such ridicule through the unguarded statement credited to him.

For me the issue is this:
How can anyone in his right thinking senses convince me a full blooded Nigerian let alone the the governments of the Western world that GEJ has the genuine interest and ability to make Nigeria better when he can't detach himself from a brigand like Alams. It is not possible.
GEJ has been begging the western governments for help to stop the oil bunkering in the Niger Delta to no avail and we all know why.
They simply do not take him seriously. So do I.
How can you keep strong ties to a world renowned and still wanted international criminal and tell the world you want to stop the criminality of oil bunkering.
It just makes GEJ look stupiid.

I disagree. You celebrate improvement no matter how 'little' .With this the 'child' feel encourage and thus driven to achieve more improvement.

Wrong!!!
You dont celebrate an improvement that does not take you to the pass mark.
You note it and work more on areas that need to improve.
Celebration should only come when you achieve the pass mark from a failure position.

Education / Re: UNN Graduate Makes Groundbreaking Invention by jawjaw1: 7:41pm On Apr 24, 2013
Anytime I read such news I get a conflict of feelings.
First one of joy and the second of sadness.
The feeling of joy comes from the fact that a Nigerian youth is maximizing his potential and proving his worth to the world.
The feeling of sadness comes from the fact that there are many more of his like that are in Nigeria hoping and begging for the opportunity but to no avail.
We need to find a way to make Nigerians know that ideas rule the world. The most successful businesses in the world were built on ideas and are being sustained by newer ideas everyday e.g Google, Apple, Samsung, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Mercedes Benz etc.

We need to get Nigerians to understand that you can be rich and successful by simply thinking of new and better ways of doing things. We need to change Nigeria to an idea driven society. A society where the people try to outdo one another with better ideas. A place where the people realize that I can be richer and more successful by thinking and implementing my great ideas than being in a government position of seeking political office. I tell you if the thinking revolution starts in Nigeria, the country will explode with ideas and inventions that will grow will leaps and bounds that are unimaginable.

Unfortunately, that is not the case today. The opportunity for those who have ideas are not even available. Worst of all is that most of our leaders cant even think themselves let alone inspire confidence in those who need to think. Its a pity!

This story is a typical case of poverty induced christianity. Inviting a riff raff pastor to spend days in your house and see what he ends up doing.
I am a christian but I will say this without any doubt in my mind.
Half or more than half of the people in Nigeria who flock to churches on sundays and claim to be christians or who are running churches in Nigeria, are only there because of the poverty in the land.
The moment Nigeria improves economically and becomes a bit like Europe or America, most of the churches will close down or become empty.

Unexpectedly someone suspects her and digs up her past posts on NL showing she has been somewhat inviting the trouble she is now complaining about.

Haven you heard the saying " if you get caught between a snake and an mbaise woman, kill the mbaise woman first" mbaise women are like leeches, they contribute nothing positive to your life, apart from sucking you dry.

Gather your thoughts together, make plans, go to a marriage court and dissolve the marriage. Nigeria is dysfunctional, with money you would get custody of the kids. Take your kids and go drop them with your people, they are better off there than with her.

Lol, the height of foolishness. While you are busy killing the Mbaise woman, the snake would have bitten you.

Politics / African Growth 'to Outpace World' by jawjaw1: 6:12pm On Apr 15, 2013
Economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa should significantly outpace the global average over the next three years, according to the World Bank.

Higher commodities, increasing investment and a general pick-up in the world economy should all boost the continent's growth to more than 5%.

But the World Bank added that African governments had to do more to ensure that this growth reduced poverty.

Global GDP was forecast to grow by an average of 2.4% this year.

Foreign direct investment is forecast to reach record levels in the coming years, hitting $54bn (£35.3bn)a year by 2015, the Bank said.

The report said strong economic growth in Africa had significantly reduced the extent of poverty in Africa over the past decade or so.

The Bank's provisional figures showed that the proportion of Africans living on less than $1.25 a day fell from 58% to 48.5% between 1996 and 2010.

"If properly harnessed to unleash their full potential, these trends hold the promise of more growth, much less poverty, and accelerating shared prosperity for African countries in the foreseeable future," said World Bank economist, Punam Chuhan-Pole.

But the Bank added that poverty reduction was being held back by income inequality and a reliance on mineral and mining exports in some African countries.

Resource-rich countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and Gabon were singled out as making less progress in combating poverty than other African countries with fewer natural resources.

"While the broad picture emerging from the data is that Africa's economies have been expanding robustly and that poverty is coming down, the aggregate hides a great deal of diversity in performance, even among Africa's faster growers," said Shanta Devarajan, the World Bank's chief economist for Africa.

Problem areas
The Bank said infrastructure development was critical to ensure the strong pace of economic growth.

Investment in infrastructure would be key to the continued success of the oil and gas sectors in East Africa and the exploitation of the huge coal deposits in Mozambique.

The mineral sectors in places such as Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone should continue to attract investment, the Bank said.

The World Bank did, however, identify some problem areas it felt could hold back economic growth.

Labour unrest in the continent's largest economy, South Africa, as well as political issues in the Central African Republic, Mali and Togo were identified as potential concerns.

The Bank warned that risks to African growth remained, not only from the continuing crisis in the eurozone, but also from any sharp unforeseen downturn in demand for commodities from China.
