As usual, this is a typical case of what happens everywhere in Nigeria. We allow something to go bad for many years and when someone decides to take the bull by the horn and fix it, people start to complain.

Unfortunate.

Family / Re: My Wife Spent 450k On Baby Shoes by jawjaw1: 2:00pm On Jul 16, 2012
@OP it is obvious that your wife comes from a 'money home' and doesnt see anything wrong with all that spending on baby shoes.
Its also very probable that she might come back with much more other baby stuff than she has already sent, so be prepared.
My advice is that on her return you sit her down and try your loving best to explain why what she has done is outrageous.
You might also need to find a way to get some of the excess cash off her and start investing seriously on things that will on the long run benefit both of you and all the kids to come.
I say this because honestly I dont see your wife changing as she has probably had money around her all her life. Money has a funny way of disappearing when you least expect it so you had better be prepared.
Wish you goodluck, best of luck!

Family / Re: How Many Of Us Actually Say SORRY To Our Spouse? by jawjaw1: 4:07pm On Jul 02, 2012
As for me saying 'Sorry' is something I have learnt to do, even when I am not at fault. My wife can be a little stubborn and finds it difficult to accept she could be wrong and apologize.
If I let her be whenever we have a misunderstanding it might translate to hours or days not talking to each other. That I cant stand so I apologize and then get her to talk about it. With that we we iron things out and make up.

I learnt from the elders that for every serious relationship (especially marriage) to work out, one of the parties must give in more than the other. As time goes by, the other partner will get to realize that the partner that is ready to apologize is the stronger person, and he or she will eventually cave in.

Properties / Re: Your Idea Of A Modern Kitchen by jawjaw1: 7:51am On Jun 24, 2012
Reference: To realistically have an open kitchen the average Nigerian home requires radical changes in culinary and living habits.

First and most importantly you've got to guarantee regular water supply and electricity to keep it clean and odourless. Induction cookers and not gas to keep the heat down.

Secondly practically all our meals here are cooked from their natural states meaning more time and more smells for longer. You could set your house alight preparing goat meat - the male type. I mean you could be smelling like a goat all the way to work.

Thirdly and most challenging of all our kitchens are often full of clutter. Polybags, endless plastic bottles, packs and bins that just wouldn't look good across the living room.

What do you guys think.

You are very correct. The open kitchen is a North American thing. With our kind of food and our kitchen lifestyle in addition to lack of constant power and water it would be difficult to adopt and maintain in Nigeria. If we are able to overcome the utilities challenges, I am sure it will gradually get popular in Nigeria.

I currently live in an apartment with a semi-open kitchen. Its not too small and its nice and lovely. (see pic)

Politics / Re: Should Death Penalty Be Prescribed For Corrupt Persons? by jawjaw1: 12:44pm On Jun 14, 2012
The Chinese with a population that is more than 6 times Nigeria's and an economy over 20 times bigger (which means a larger potential to be corrupt and also not be caught) realized it decades ago that corruption had to be killed at all cost.

The proscribed execution once you are caught and convicted.

Once a chinese is caught a swift and effective trial is done. If the verdict is 'guilty' they execute you immediately with a bullet to the back of the head. No time wasting. It is an effective way to stamp out corruption and is still in practice today.

That on its on explains why their economy is growing in leaps and bounds without suffering the draw back of corruption like Nigeria.

I hope for the day we will have the courage to fight corruption head-on.

Politics / Re: If My Father Steals I Will Jail Him. by jawjaw1: 7:48pm On Jun 10, 2012
The Defender: People saying they will jail their father if caught stealing are big HYPOCRITES!!!

You are a born joker for saying this. You think everyone thinks like you and is only concerned about 'today'?
What about tomorrow, the future for the unborn Nigerian child?

If I become president, the first thing I will do is bring all my family together for a meeting. With all the love in my heart, I will warn them to stay clear of anything illegal because if they are caught I will never intervene.
Next I will warn everyone that works with me, be them friends, special advisers, political associates, ministers, whoever and inform them too that I have warned my family. So that they know that if I am ready to turn a blind eye to any member of my family who goes foul of the law they would surely be in trouble if they steal.

For God's sake the future of Nigeria and its citizens are way bigger than any one person even if na my papa. Till we begin to think like this there is no future for Nigeria.

Family / Re: Many Married Men Are Unhappy... by jawjaw1: 5:45pm On Jun 08, 2012
Marriage can be enjoyable or painful for both sides. But for it to be enjoyed, there has to be great understanding and trust from both both parties.

For all those who are yet to get married, especially the women, marriage is not a bed of roses. Be prepared for real challenges which can only be surmounted by the strength of the union btw the man and the woman.

Been married for almost 3 yrs, so I am talking from my small bag of experience.

Lol! Dnt worry in this case they sell exactly what was manufactured in South Korea.
Car Talk / Re: How Reliable Are Hyundai Vehicles? by jawjaw1: 10:11pm On Jun 07, 2012
I have driven one for almost 4 years (Elantra 2008, bought brand new) and have been across the country with it. Driven it to Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos, Benin, Owerri, Ibadan and also across the Nigerian border (at least more than 2 times each). I have done about 70,000km with it and can reliably say its a good car. You treat it right by servicing it as at when due and making the necessary part repairs and it will reciprocate by taking you wherever you want to go.

Compared to the already established Japanese models that are more expensive, Hyundai is worth the money you pay for it.

Hyundai cars are at the same stage the Japanese cars were in Nigeria in the late 70s and early 80s. Nigerians looked at the Japanese cars then with skeptism because the Peugeots, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen were the popular brands. But with time Nigerians have come to have faith in them. That is the same thing I expect to happen to Hyundai and Kia cars in Nigeria in the near future.

For your additional info, Hyundai and Kia are both owned by the same parent company in South Korea. They have the same engine and chasis but different body and interior designs. Hyundai is modelled to compete with Toyota while Kia is modelled to compete with Honda. They have certainly started to gain grounds on Toyota and Honda around the world. In Nigeria 2 different companies hold the dealership franchise. Stallion motors sells Hyundai while Dana motors sells Kia.

Phones / Re: How Can I Destroy A Stolen Phone Using Its Imei Number? by jawjaw1: 1:48pm On May 31, 2012
@OP I can only say 'kpele' to you.

We have been asking for this service in Nigeria for some years now but the network providers are obviously not interested in it even though it will benefit their customers.

They probably dont see any economic sense in it for their business and may just prefer that once you lose you phone you may come back to them to buy anoda one from their special offers.

If implemented it will definitely put and end to the lucrative bizness of stolen phones. Since with ur IMEI number your missing phone can be locked off all the networks and the person who buys it will find it useless.

Lets wait and pray that one of the Network providers takes the bull by the horn. Once one of them starts it, the others will be forced to follow.

As at late last year, I used to live a few streets away from this church in Aguda, Surulrere. Their church buses (imported North American school buses) had started to form a nuisance on Brown Road and adjoining streets. I remember driving home from work late on some evenings and being amazed at the number of people trouping out of his church after some special late evening service. Surprisingly, a huge number of them are young people.

I mean, what kind of name is Dr Sign Fireman? The name itself sounds fraudulent for any right thinking person who ponders on it. I am glad that CAN has questioned this pastor's person.

In summary, it just goes to show how gullible Nigerians are, especially the young generation. All you need to do is to find something to amaze them and better still add God to it and you have them following you and swallowing everything you give them hook, line and stinker without question.

What a shame!
