EducationRe: I'm Tired Of Law by jaybee3(m): 9:51am On Mar 14, 2015
akinsadeez:
To start with, you seem to have the wrong idea that reading law is all about practicing. You can read law and be a solicitor only and not practice. There are purely commercial law firms in Nigeria making billions, (not millions) who hardly step foot in court. That does not make those working there any less lawyers. These are the firms that handle complex deals involving millions of dollars. It is not compulsory you practice if you don't have flair for it.
While I was in school and even up till now, I read law reports as if I am reading novels. I find it so intriguing to see lawyers approaching the same facts in the same case from opposite angles and the subsequent battle of intellect. I love reading supreme court cases to see how a lawyer can convince d apex court to overturn the judgment of three judges (at least) of d court of appeal. I have the flair and passion for it and it shows when I am appearing in court.

Reading law and becoming a lawyer opens up so many opportunities for you. After being called you can work in Kpmg, PWC, Delloitte, or even become an OAP and not practice but trust me wherever you are working, you will be accorded respect because you are a lawyer. I have never regretted being a lawyer and I'm sure you wont. Stick with it, evaluate yourself again after being called to d bar and then follow your heart.
End of discussion!
You've said it all

FamilyRe: If This Was Your Husband What Would You Do? by jaybee3(m): 6:37am On Mar 14, 2015
The husband is a grown man and should he able to make and stand by his own decisions.
It doesn't help that he is being made to feel like an ingrate when the issue at hand hasn't bordered along the line of infidelity nor laziness on his part.

The wife simply needs to grow since mum isn't always going to be around. Your husband becomes the default head and his opinion counts once you sign the dotted line

It's also very irresponsible of the mother in-law to feel comfortable about the whole scenario as it played out

If he does, what's the assurance that the account hasn't been cleaned out? undecided
I guess a good samaritan reading this thread that works at the bank DJ used can help confirm the balance on the account

Will they be able to get the death certificate or will they just leave the money left in their son's account with the bank for eternity?
I think one of the reason why they couldn't at the time was because of the need to bury him immediately according to Islamic rights.
We are of the impression that they are worried about having to cough out some money to pursue a death certificate that will only be used to withdraw money that might not be worthwhile.

We didn't want to make demands because of the sensitivity hence the reason why we decided not to press further with regards to that issue

Gboliwe:
Okay, this is serious business and the young man talking about building a mosque clearly mis-understood what he read. So, let's disregard his opinion. It doesn't count.

2ndly: Jaybee3 have you and the team discussed with DJ's mom the kind of business she may want to invest in? I am asking, using myself as an example. If a group decides to fund/uplift Mama Gboliwe and they find a shop, pay rent and stock up provisions/ foodstuff for her and ask her to mange it, I doubt the business will succeed because she is not cut out for selling/buying petty trading provision shop. So, ask DJ's mother what she wants to do and let's fully establish her

As per lodging, she should please not be relocated except she says so. If not, rent in the same property can be paid for her and her aged husband (that one is jara.) I can live with the thought that my small donation is used for that.

The brother asking for a house in badagry, is he the same one that left everything and nursed DJ till he died? Something tells me he isn't! If my assumption is right, could you guys please tell him I said he should STFU!!!!!!! angry

Having said all these, methinks option 3 with a slight fine-tuning is best.
We certainly did but couldn't press as much as we would have done due to the challenging circumstances the parents are going through. It's always hard to stimulate such discussions when the death is still fresh in memory.

You are right with your intuition. He is the absentee first born that suggested the alternative treatment (herbalist) that they received 50k for.

We wanted their opinion so we can throw it to the house for ratification hence why we didn't bother shooting the ridiculous idea down at the time.

We sort of anticipated that could happen hence why we specifically didn't disclose the balance during our meeting with them.

The vibe we got from the meeting is that the mum will happily go with any decision the house makes but there is always a possibility of infighting should we hand over any cash to them as a family.

rayo2002:
Option 3 minus house rent. Also what about the initial money given to his Mum? Will that form part of the consideration?
The 100k was transferred to DJ as reported on this thread but the mum rejected it at the time as she was more concerned with getting DJ back to his feet.

We were told during our last meeting with them that DJ withdrew some money from it but their should be a sizeable portion of that money left in the account.
The main issue is they are unable to retrieve the money as they didn't bother getting a death certificate and that's needed to take possession of his liquid assets from the back.

We were also reliably informed that the last 150k transferred to him on the day that he unfortunately died was used towards the burial arrangements

@fitzk

Thanks for the Info

Here is what i think should be done/explored broken down into strategic plans

Short Term
1) Halt the disposal of your essential goods
2) Provide contact details of where your broken down car is situated so we can verify and perhaps persuade the samaritan that's interested in helping to repair it
3) Provide details of the school that your kids are attending so those that are willing to help can pay directly to the school.

Medium Term
1) You need to cultivate an habit of saving 50% of your earnings for rainy days such as this so i suggest you save about 50k per month from the projected earnings once the car is back on the road
2) You should look into establishing a small business worth around 300k from the next 6 months savings for your wife so you guys can have additional income

Lomg Term
1) I know you've publicly admitted your mistakes with reference to the contract ish that got you into trouble but you really need to embrace honesty and integrity with all your dealings going forward.

@gazzuzz
How can we move your proposal forward Sir?

You are a selfish Christian. Why would you go against building a mosque? Don't you know doing that will guarantee that his soul rest in paradise? Let's be kind hearted undecided
Building a mosque will not address his primary wish (To ensure his mum can feed) nor is it part of the options presented Sir.

Our specific issue with handing over a large sum of money is simply that it's possible for it to be diverted against the intended purpose.

Please Google T.boz of TLC, she is a warrior and she is living her dreams.
And also read about the guy you are quoting, Abali1 maybe you will begin to change your perspective about people living with SS.
That makes 2 warriors out of how many?

Why should they bring SS children into the world and hope they turn medical Warriors?
I hope you know there are other issues aside from medical that SS children will experience through the course of their lives.

There is the psychological and the consistent/constant fear of unknown derived from the uncertainties that comes along with having such

How so? Please enlighten me. huh
Probability is the likelihood that something may occur so it's not straight fraction like you put it.

For every child they have, there is a 25% chance of he/she being an SS. So it's quite possible for all the children that they have to be SS.

25% is a whole lot to gamble with.
Makes no damn sense!

She took the common sense approach considering the fact that healthcare which isn't adequate is also not free in Nigeria.

Why tempt faith when there is a high probability that tears will be the end result?

Upon receiving our pre marital medical reports, my fiance told me God changed his genotype, from AS to AA. I laughed it off, not because I don't believe in miracles; having personally experienced several, but because he could be very mischievous.

He insisted and asked me to ask his mum. So I asked, "mummy, what is your son's genotype?" She said, " AS". I asked again, for certainty, she said, "AS of course, what's the matter?".

So yes, God changed his genotype! Several tests confirmed it!

To those doubting the efficacy of fasting and praying, SMH. You are on a looooooong tin.

What exactly is wrong with the car?

How much was your daily/monthly income from the cab business?

How long did you drive the cab before it packed up?

Is your wife currently contributing to the household purse or she is a full time housewife. Can she learn a trade?

I think your priority for now should be getting your kids back to school.

I'm a little interested in the failed contract as i'd love to know specifically if you were dishonest at anytime during the process.
PoliticsRe: APC, PDP, Civil Society, INEC Disagreed Over Card Reader Performance In Kano by jaybee3(m): 4:27am On Mar 08, 2015
psalmsjob:
This statistic is for a ward in Kano only not for the entire mock election everywhere.

Besides the reason for the errors is because of the paintings on the hands of the female voters there and the male voters are mostly farmers.

So with this category of persons if the card reader can record 60% success rate then its a success story.

But some people are bent on rigging so ofcourse they'll condemn it any which way, like this statistician I quoted.

#SaiBuhari
He also goofed by trying to appear smart without paying much attention to basic maths.
60% success rate of the test conducted if 65% of the PVC collection rate is simply 39 successful voters out of the 100 sample.

Besides, it's only a sample. One sample and it would have been a worry if the percentage error was replicated across all test centres

Why would God have us reach almost 8 billion then send about 75% to hell fire. Makes no sense whatsoever

HealthRe: RIP DJDOLA- We Will Miss You by jaybee3(m): 6:25am On Feb 28, 2015
Hi All,

This is a brief report of our meeting with DJ's family on Thursday.

We (myself, r231 and mynd) met with the family (mum, dad and brothers) at their family house around mile 2.
We were warmly received and they were very thankful for the intervention you guys tried to give Hammed.

As expected, the loss is very painful and still very much in their memory but they are finding solace in the fact that he is no longer in pain and thus in a much better place.

We notified them that there is still some money left unspent from donated funds. We specifically asked them to give us ideas on how they intend to utilise the funds when released to them so we can table all options to you guys for ratification.

We specifically didn't tell them the exact amount left of the budget so they can come up with a wide variation of options for consideration and ratification by you guys.

As much as the easiest thing to do is just hand over the balance to the next of kin/guardian, we owe it to hammed to ensure whatever we receive a seal of approval from him even though he is no longer with us.

In light of this, we will table all options as advised by the family and add our own recommendation if any for you guys to ratify.

We hope to provide this info alongside statement of account before the end of next week and we implore that you all contribute to the process so we can reach the best possible conclusion going forward.

Lastly, we prayed with them and they have sent their thanks and blessings to each and every one of us that has worked to help Hameed

Kind Regards
