Why is it so difficult for you to stay on topic. You don't like someone then ignoring them surely is the easiest thing to do.

I really hate it when people open their mouths and instead of giving reasonable, sound advice, they spew nonsense out of it. All of you that are saying i am dumb, are you smarter than me? what kind of retards are on this thread bikonu! if you are about to start talking rubbish, CAN IT lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed! to answer your questions, no i am not dumb, i am studying International Business Management and Accounting at NYU with a GPA of 3.52/4 so i am probably smarter than most of you posting on NL, secondly, my family isn't lacking, they are a somewhat influential in Nigeria *i have a diplomatic passport grin  grin*, why a celeb? because i want to! now wetin concern una with this part now? I am not desperate, believe it or not, i come from a very religious family, so i don't plan on getting pregnant outside wedlock,  if i sound desperate to you, maybe i should consider a paraphrase, "I NO WAN MARRY POOR AND UGLY MAN "
vivika:
All of you who are critiquing prayers, its just because you have never been or seen anyone who has been in this position. My brother died abt 10yrs ago,  4yrs after this my mother was in the hospital for almost a yr, a yr after this my father died, 2yrs after this my aunt died. Why i am bringing this up is because in all of thiis drama, my mother was in the center. One thing i know for sure is that my mum's prayer and her faith in her God kept her from loosing it. It depends on the kind of person, i mean everyone copes with pain differently. if prayer works for her, let her try it out, if prayer doesn't seem to work let her see a therapist. Now all of you suggesting therapeutic care, its not enough for you to suggest but also tell him good and credible drs he can take her to.

OK i agree, maybe my statement was in the absolute.  Yes, they have the power to do so, but it will only happen in very unusual once a blue moon circumstance.  I haven't heard of any other case outside of this stratford scenario!

It will particularly be unwise to think the UK border force or even the Police could accost a specific group of peaceful protesters who have in all likelihood obtained permissions ahead of the protests, if they do so, they run the risk of being reported or embarrassed for harassment. There's a report on daily mail that the Police are often very careful about asking a detained suspect about his/her immigration status, cos they are careful of being embarrassed for racism and what not.

you may have mistaken me, my argument is not that only bad comes from Nigeria, my argument is that Nigeria is a fcking hell---the devil's own personal abode!. . .tell me just a single thing that is civilized about Nigeria, just one!
Trust me unannounced raids by UK border force agencies happens from time to time but it definitely wouldn't be appropriate in the protest scenario as it would be classed as unlawful.

It's like they turning up at a Nigeria vs Ghana match at Wembley knowing fully well that they are guaranteed to arrest tons of illegal immigrants. I think Carlton Cole actually got reprimanded for cracking a joke on tweeter about that

I'm afraid ain't nothing she can do about it now. The simple advice for her is to tighten her belt and work on being a good mother/father to the child that never asked to be brought into the world.
If she wants financial support from the man then she can obviously get that through the court system

It will be insane to assume that civilized security outfits just go out and "pick" people up like fruits!. . that's only possible in one place in the entire world--> NIGERIA!!

People don't get accosted in the street for their immigration status, unless such a person is involved in something illegal or the Border force have specific information.
They actually do ya know. UK border force are known to turn up unannounced at major transport hubs. Their was a particular case in one of 'em recent UK border force series on tv whereby some dude was picked up at stratford station

According to : http://www.indexmundi.com/nigeria/demographics_profile.html
Age structure

0-14 years: 40.9% (male 32,476,681/female 31,064,539)
15-64 years: 55.9% (male 44,296,228/female 42,534,542) bulk of the workforce is drawn from here
65 years and over: 3.1% (male 2,341,228/female 2,502,355) (2011 est.)

So going by your aggregation and factoring students and unemployment figures then surely public sector workers will be > 50% of the total workforce.
It's so sad that we don't have proper publicized payroll data

The bulk of that 66% is in the private sector workforce.
You are right about inflation of course. But isn't that the same everywhere? That's not limited to Nigeria. Even in the developed world, as growth plummets, the wage will hold less value. Already some of the European countries are trying to raise taxes and cut social spending, like Spain.

But remember, we are talking about individuals. Nowadays, people tend to spend big on education, not only in Nigeria. The expectation is to earn premium, which won't necessarily be the case anymore. I am saying, be conservative but be focused, and you will see the career growth you are seeking.
Any evidence to back it up?
CareerRe: Effective Career Planning; What Are Your Plans For 2012? by jaybee3(m): 12:56pm On Jan 06, 2012
AjanleKoko:
Let's look at the economic, rather than the emotional impact of your statement.
The truth is, nothing every stays the same.

Teaching profession 20 years ago was mostly government, and they fixed the wages. Now, population is growing, more private schools up to university level are being opened. Wages will continue to grow in this sector, as the private sector boom will continue. More teachers will be needed.
Oga, Nigeria is rumoured to have over 150 inhabitant in which 66% of that headline figure is in the labour force.
What percentage of that 66% is attributed to the private sector workforce and even when you factor in the growth rate of private sector on a yearly basis you will still be left with a bigger percentage geered towards the public sector.

If we look at the macro economics even, wage growth will bring wage inflation which in turn will mean less money to play with for the prospective middle class that you are suggesting will boom in the coming years. In my opinion, we will still be left in the same both as more money wouldn't necessarily mean more disposable income as prices will skyrocket and Naira will probably lose it's value.

AjanleKoko:
Medical profession: With the coming of managed healthcare and health insurance, healthcare in Nigeria is growing. Even in the public sector, wages have grown, as some have attested to on the medical doctor's thread. More HMO subscriptions, more money in health insurance, and demand for health care professionals, even if government does not open new hospitals. We saw this a couple of years back when a South African Healthcare group invested around $250m to acquire Total health Trust, a local HMO.

In fact, I predict that specialist doctors will soon start to return from the US to Nigeria, over the next 5 years. If Obama gets re-elected and nothing happens to his Obamacare bill, I wonder how lucrative healthcare practice will be in the US. Already a number of UK doctors are back to Nigeria in one capacity or the other.
I sincerely hope this will be the case

Dude, in the diesel consumption arena, small business owners are a micro-dot. What small business user can be compared to the likes of Nigerian Breweries for example? What that single company consumes in a day is what thousands of small users consume in a year.

The bit about trucks is guesswork, because Nigeria has kept recording growth in the construction industry.
How many companies of NB's size do we have in Nigeria? Do you know it's mostly small business that drives the economy of a nation? Solely ignoring the impact they make is definitely far fetched.
Do you know how many people downsized from larger  KVA diesel generators to smaller petrol generators due to the subsidy?
Ignoring these groups as a non factor stats is just very rich coming from you oga beaf.

At best, it's very difficult to put a concrete % impact of fraud on anything in Nigeria due to unavailability of adequate data

My guy, when I talk about R&grin, I am not talking about FIIRO. If you have ever been to FIIRO though, you will collapse in tears.
Govt is serious about setting a percentage of the budget aside, strictly for R&grin (I forget the details, though).

As for science and tech requiring raw materials, surely that has little to do with the fuel subsidy. No?

The 50% drop in deisel consumption could not have come from people switching to petrol. The major users of desiel are industries who use it to run their generators 24/7, such users cannot switch to petrol. It is glaring that the 50% drop was due to a drop in fraud.

Lol! And I thought I was making progress! grin
How glaring Mr Beaf?
What about the common sense possibility that the small business owners that rely on diesel to run their business couldn't afford to any more once the subsidy was removed

What about the possibility that the soaring cost of truck transportation in the building sector couldn't be contained coupled with the fact of squeeze in money market which in turn affected the once booming construction industry?

Ironically we do. At least I know there's a serious shortage of teachers at all levels in Nigeria. I know a private university that is planning to bring in Indians en masse.
We're definitely short of doctors in Nigeria as well, as well as pharmacists. The government putting everybody on pause makes it seem like we don't.
What I was trying to say is, there's no new formula to career growth. What has happened of late is, people are seeking short cuts to wealth.
Sir, are you linking the shortage to the inability of teenagers to study the right courses at university or the fact that teaching profession is not as noble as it was back in the day. Delving into the possible reason why people run away from teaching profession shouldn't take you long to realise that the paltry salary the profession promises might just be the main course. Mind you, it's the same everywhere so not synonymous to Nigeria only but what other responsible government do is attach some sweeteners in the form of perks so as to make it attractive for graduates.

Also, do you realise the main reason why most doctors are leaving the shores of Nigerian en masses is simply because of the pay condition, you may argue that people in such professions shouldn't really be looking at the benefits of the job rather than the prestige and satisfaction it brings when they see the end results of their respective patients.

AjanleKoko:
Sort of like that thread where some dude was asking about a switch for medical lab science to agric economics, and people were talking about future careers in banking and finance, if the person got a good degree in the agric economics. I very much doubt that the financial industry will exist in its current form in 10 years. Why not follow through with a career in medical lab science, which gives you an actual skill which will remain in demand, and also provide a definite path towards entrepreneurship?
I totally agree with the above. What we need is people with actual technical skills. Technicians are usually the main driving force of any industry and if the nation is serious about being a global player in manufacturing then surely this ought to be developed further.

The post below is also for you.

How about for the first time ever in our history, mothers get paid at birth? What do you think such would do for the country? How about finally building of Mambila dam that we've heard about since we were born?

This is the first ever Nigerian govt to invest in Research an Development, What do you think that would do for the betterment and dignity of the common man? Do you wish to live in a black country that is serious about development?

Have you bothered to read the SURE document?
Are you asking people to continue getting excited all because of promises? I'm all for removal of subsidy but the implementation surely could have been better. You don't remove a damper from a car and not expect to have massive implication. The team could have sought and implemented temporary sweeteners that will help negate the effects that the sudden withdrawal of subsidy brings.

Why ask people to keep living on hope when nothing has ever been done in recent history of our nation to change that hope to reality.

No matter how you look at it, the implementation of subsidy removal policy is just wrong. The policy itself is the right thing to do but at the right time when necessary things are in place

HOW?
how about higher Inflationary pressures and we all know what higher inflation mean to the common Nigerian.
