Some contractors in the UK can earn as much as that if not even more.
A Nigerian dude at me work currently earns around that amount as a project manager.
I have personally recruited 3 contractors (Analysts) that were on 400 per day so the 500 quid is not so off the mark

A programme manager previously at me work earned about 1K per day for 2 yrs straight before the new government brought this cut cutting measures so now big procurement contracts ought to be signed by department secretaries et al
Here are some of the jobs that you Can earn that much as a contractor
Software test manager
Analysts (IB banks and NHS)
Project Managers (IB banks and NHS)
Oracle specialists
CRM specialists
