Uyi Iredia: Noted.Cool. |
Err, Uyi, you sound less like someone seeking than someone confused (no offence intended). Point of order, if someone sticks to his guns it doesnt mean the person is close minded. A person is close minded if he sticks to his position even when he has been shown the weakness of that position. Particularly so, if he rejects a contrary position outright without due consideration. I see no reason why you should jump from islam to paganism to flower worship etc. If you are looking for God, look within. Your confusion (as I call it) has led to a really wild fluctuation and its hard to take you very seriously. One minute you are insulting people over evolution, the next you are accepting it. One minute you are a christian, then you are a deist then an atheist. Its dizzying. I hope next you are not going to do another "I have renounced atheism thread". By your arguments before now and your declaring yourself atheist, I should be correct when I say that you currently believe there is no God. Im sure this is not true though (even if you say it is). Anyway moving on . . . Seeking doesnt necessarily mean trying everything on the menu. Doing that can cause a lot of sh1t. Again, none of this is meant to insult and I hope you dont take it that way. |
Joagbaje: I didnt want to go into this, but yes? Its spirituslly illegal but it hapoens .I won't go further. But there had been cases of people experiencing missing monies. MONEY DISSAPEARed. . Not stollen By man ,it vanished. It only stopped when they were prayed for. There are cases where someone experiencing spiritual husband thing recieves physical money from that being and spend it. There have been cases where such spirit brings physical clothes to the victim. Marks and spencer product! . Bags of clothesIf you had an unscrupulous child/friend/associate etc, all they need to do to you is take whatever they like without leaving an obvious trace and you will conclude that its a spirit. Even if you saw clues, you will say they were influenced by the devil. When you have problems, blame it on an entity instead of solving the problem with your brain. I wish you luck. |
godman01: Simple thing. Firstly, demons are spirits and can only have influence through humans. Secondly, they can easily use bulk sms platform to send message like its from her line, that's why u could not find the sms on their phones.Good grief! This would be funny if it werent so tragically idiotic. InesQor: @GeneralShepherdWell next maybe they will tell us that Nokia Lumia (insert any smart phone of your choice) has the capability to do 'X' and the demons could have used a Lumia. Joagbaje: Thanks but many posts on this thread vindicated me . We read others posters who had similar experience . That was why I asked for those who have experience in casting out devils , because if you have not experienced such ministry some things may look crazyOf course many posts vindicated you. Its called confirmation bias. There are none so blind as those who will not see. I bet you if I cooked up the zaniest story ever and interlaced it with spirits demons and what not, you will swallow it. You thrive on this! |
GeneralShepherd: It is absolutely horrible but alas Seun has done a proper market survey and these kind of topics bring in the traffic and hence the cashflow.Im not particularly bothered about atheist topics not making front page, its the quality of what comes to the front page that gets me. |
InesQor: GBAM! GBAM!! GBAM!!! (not necessarily related to the OP but yeah na facts you dey yarn)Brother its cringe-worthy. |
GeneralShepherd: Then the quality of discussion nose-dived but I never ever knew it would get to the point of nominating this topic for front-page.You have said what has been on my mind for a while now. Imagine the idiocy that is advertised these days on the front page. See how the West packages themselves? Thats why people long to travel abroad only to realise that there is a difference between Hollywood and real life. Instead we portray our worst to the world. When we are the subject of xenophobic attacks in other countries we must ask what image of ourselves we market abroad. What will the average person watching nollywood movies deduce about Nigerians? What will the average person reading such unrestrained imbecility, like the OP think of Nigerians? This nonsense is on the front page. NA WA! |
All this, and atheism is irrational. Hey InesQor, one question you might have thought of asking but didnt is Is it possible that Joe Agbaje is lying? Is it possible that Joe Agbaje is mentally unsound? |
Uyi Iredia: @ jayriginal: Atheism is a belief that God doesn't exist. It is irrational to state atheism involves no belief and thereafter define and exhibit features charcteristic of a belief. To know it, to talk about it, to define it, state what it involves or doesn't involve etc.No, atheism is not a belief. We have argued this before. "I do not believe in God" is not the same thing as "I believe there is no God". You need to go really slow and try to grasp this. Uyi Iredia: @ bolded: True BUT atheist should and do prove why God is non-existent. That's the thrust of books like 'God Is Not Great' etc. In fact, when you refute arguments for God you are doing precisely what you mention, that is proving God inexistent. You wouldn't say, for example, that one cannot or should not prove that Hemical doesn't exist: the reason is simple logic allows that proof be shown for the truth or falsity of a statement, including the one of God existing.Uyi, what is, is; and what isnt, isnt! When you refute arguments for God, that is all you are doing; refuting arguments for God. You are not in anyway refuting the existence of God. The existence or non existence of God does not rely on any argument no matter how beautifully crafted. |
plaetton: Sorry to derail for an important newsflash.Yeah I saw that. I had to exit the thread quickly before the tears from my eyes got into my keyboard and fried my system components. |
Definitely! |
Simpsons all the way! OP why dont you make a poll? |
Just about two things are obvious from this thread. Most people who argue against atheism do not know what it is. The very same people refuse to learn and accept what atheism is because they will have little or nothing to argue against. I do not mean "accept" as in become atheists themselves, I mean accept that what they considered atheism is a distorted definition. Naturally, they will not take correction because it will mean they will have to stop saying things like - atheism is a belief - atheism relies on blind faith - . . . |
^ you're mistaken. this is what I'm saying james 1 but you're more interested in solomon's missteps, than in what he did right.
The OP is how to overcome lust. The OP suggests wisdom is the antidote. The OP refers to Solomon. Im addressing the OP on those points. Im addressing the OP. |
what solomon specifically asked for was wisdom in governance, which he was given. besides, he was already married to pharaoh's daughter at the time he made the request-highly significant. and yes, he did start his reign with women problems.
tpia@ You seem to be responding to something other than the OP. |
My point is that all the wisdom Solomon had didnt help him with his lust. And no, Solomon didnt start with women problems. |
Mr Troll, I wouldnt say there is no mushroom but I am not sure what that has to do with me. I have said earlier that I do not state that there is no God so Im not sure why you are applying that analogy to me. Ive made my points and apparently we are not going to agree over this, so . . . |
Look at the topic then read the last sentence in the OP . Theres nothing about building a kingdom there. He clearly is saying that wisdom is the antidote to lust. He mentioned Solomon (who is said to have been very wise). Now we both know how the story goes dont we? |
texanomaly: See...Its really because of the label atheism has been given. The negativity associated with it is the reason why a number of people refuse to accept they are atheists. They therefore try to distance themselves. People make a big deal out of atheism. You have people saying that atheism is the natural corollary to immorality (enigma), atheists just want to live sinful immoral lives (several people including Olaadegbu), atheists can be killed like mosquitoes (Frosbel) etc In reality atheism is non belief in deities. It goes no further than that even if a particular atheist has his own peculiar ideas. |
^^^ Ola used him as an example when apparently his wisdom was useless in this regard. |
^^^ Read all your posts on this topic and ask who is ignorant here. |
Mr Troll: On the contrary, Atheists do state that there is no God.Actually the first question is all thats necessary to establish atheism! Im an atheist and I dont say there is no God because I dont know that for sure. I dont think anyone knows. If you call me an agnostic, you might as well call Carl Sagan and Richard Dawkins agnostic because they dont also state that there is no God. Dawkins places himself on number 6 of the scale as Im sure the majority of people who call themselves atheists do. People like to say that they are agnostic as it sounds respectable/safe/intellectual. Gnosticism relates to knowledge. In this case, knowledge of God. No one has knowledge of God (some people claim to). So in that sense, even the pope is agnostic. We all are. Not very helpful in my opinion. On the other hand, theism/atheism refers to status of belief. If you believe, you are a theist/deist. If you dont, you are an atheist. Its not necessary to state that there is no God. Some say they know there is none but that doesnt make them more or less atheists than those who say they simply dont believe. The atheists who say they know for certain that there is no God are probably a minority among atheists. The term atheist/atheism is nothing more complex than a reference to those who do not believe. Accordingly the first question is all that is needed. PS: There is this quote of Carl Sagan I am looking for. Its something to the effect that he is agnostic to God the same way he is agnostic to the presence of an invisible fire breathing dragon in his garage.

^^^ If you tasked your grey matter a little harder, you might get the point. You are the one that introduced the bible into this discussion. Nobody mentioned it, not the OP, not me. I also did not argue for or against the bible. My focus has been on the OP. As simple as the OP is, you still want to argue. As simple as the OP is, I still had to explain it to you. As simple as the OP and my explanation are, you still dont get it. Word of advice, think before you post! jayriginal: |
^^^ Well first my good man, you should cut down on the assumptions. Always ask first! I am not supporting the OP, I am explaining what he means. You missed the point and attacked the OP, calling him ignorant. Also, science is not perfect. While the scientific method tries as much as possible to eliminate bias, the humans who employ the method sometimes try to skew results to the outcome they favour. There have been hoaxes, not to mention honest mistakes. |
2good: The level of the OP's ignorance is irredeemable. You need a proper formal education. ninja4life: Wat ignorance ur username says it all mumu.smh crapThere is really nothing wrong with the OP apart from the title. What he has tried to demonstrate is quite prevalent among human beings. Funny enough, by isolating atheism and science, he falls into the same error he is trying to demonstrate. The point of the OP is clear enough. Quite often, people are mislead by seemingly plausible theories/conclusions/explanations which appear to be based on, and or supported by facts or even logic. |
Provision is made for "affirmation" if someone doesnt want to swear. Its rarely seen because most people are religious, but its there. |
So, wisdom is the antidote to lust huh? Funny how Solomon is mentioned in the OP. We all know how Solomon rolled dont we? Doesnt seem like his wisdom curbed his libido, in fact, the opposite might be argued. |
Chidough: I dont get your storyThe point is that he arrived at a wrong conclusion. The frog couldnt jump, not because it was deaf but because it had no legs. |
