Christianity EtcRe: Why Do People Hate The Bible So Much? by jayriginal: 9:30am On Oct 17, 2011
Jah Jehovah Emmanuel.  shocked
All in the space of a few hours.
We have Frosbel implying that the bible needs a revision (because it is outdated).
Frosbel said
If you have some knowledge of BC history ,  it was next to impossible to marry as a woman if you were not a virgin, unlike today were women open their legs for all and sundry. They had more self respect and dignity in those days.
and Frosbel also said
Sometimes I wonder if you guys are educated and cannot read and understand sentences in their proper context.

This is what the verse says :

"If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and r@pes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels[c] of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives." - Deuteronomy 22:28-29

This verse clearly states that the sin of violation will be punished threefold :

1. The man who violated must pay her father 50 Shekels of silver

2. He must marry the girl he violated , because GOD will not condone shame on the poor woman.

3. He can never divorce that woman

Are you guys so blind that you cannot decipher the meaning of this verse , or is it just that your minds are so depraved that even beautiful passages such as this appear to be of a s.exually perverse  nature Undecided

Does this not show GOD's justice towards the culprit and compassion on the victim  Undecided

Wow , what a sickness !!!
Considering that the same God forbade defective humans (which he created) such as men who did not have their testicles in order, from entering the temple, we wonder at the justice Frosbel is trying to promote here.
God sent Bears to gobble up little kids, he sent fire to burn the false prophets of Baal (which by the way makes a lie of the "you cant test God" rubbish {as well as Gideon} ). This same god has seen it fit to cause the ground to open up and swallow people for disobeying him. He has recommended a child be stoned for disobeying his parents.
That same God, is recommending monetary sanctions when a woman is r@ped ?  What a loving God.
I spit in disgust !!!

Man accused of killing pastor for Desecrating his daughter

BY PATIENCE OGBO

A 56-year-old man, John Oromoro, is in police custody for allegedly killing his pastor, Ben Ojinaka.

The incident happened on Sunday, September 19th at Jakande Estate, Ajangbadi. Mr Oromoro said the pastor of Jesus Power Ministry, Benjamin Ojinaka, 45, allegedly violated his 15-year-old daughter in July this year. He said he went to confront the pastor on the allegation that it was his daughter that lured him to Be Intimate with him when a fight ensued between them that led to the pastor’s death. “I be tanker driver,” he said. “The thing wey happen na since more than one month ago. My daughter, wen be the last born of my fourteen children get marine spirit. Pastor Ben come say him fit deliver her. Na me and pastor na we form the church together, so na so pastor come dey carry her go for deliverance.”

Scandal and death

Mr Oromoro stated that his daughter was eventually delivered of the ‘spirits’ but he noticed she kept going back to church after the deliverance. “Later my daughter come refused to go church; after I ask her many times, she come confessed say pastor Ben violation her for inside my house one day during deliverance,” he said. “I come vex, go meet pastor. Him come tell me make I forgive am say na devil work, I vex but I come forgive pastor.” He said he then heard rumours of the pastor claiming that his daughter lured him to Be Intimate with him. “When I hear say pastor dey tell people say na my daughter violation am, I come go him house on Sunday go ask am say why him dey spoil my daughter name,” he said. “Him tell me to get out from him house , I come vex, we come dey fight. Na so people for the compound come separate us. As pastor dey run go tell police, na so him fall down.”

According to the wife of the deceased, Mr Ojinaka slumped after the fight and was rushed to a private hospital. “As him fall down, we pour water for him body but him no wake up,” said Mrs Ojinaka. “We carry am go private hospital and them refer us to General hospital for Badagry. When the doctor seem am for general hospital, them say pastor don die make we carry am go mortuary.” His corpse was subsequently taken to the mortuary at the General hospital, Isolo, Lagos.

Okay, since you've taken the liberty of repeatedly posting this same article all of the place, i guess it's best to give it some audience. . .
You shouldnt have. I read the silly article a while back. Refuting it is a time wasting venture particularly because of the people who rely on such elementary arguments. Some things are worth attending to and some are not. If that same article was quoted in a genuine attempt at discussion, then nothing would be wrong in attending to it. This is not the case however.
Im sure if someone came here and referred to himself as Jesus Christ, he would get many condemnations but few will actually try to prove to him that he was not Jesus Christ. The point is, it isnt worth it responding to the article. It talks about revelation. I personally had a revelation sometime ago in which God himself came down and revealed a few things to me and finally told me before he left that he did not exist. Then he promised to be back.
They didnt believe my revelation but they want me to take their own revelation seriously.
This really happened, I know it in my heart. I documented it thus
Well God spoke to me last night. He told me that he was annoyed that you could ascribe such an error riddled primitive piece of literature to him and say he inspired it. He said that if he didnt want you to use your brains, he wouldnt have given them to you. He then showed me a vision of Paul burning in hell.
Finally he told me very clearly that he didnt exist and promised to visit me soon and inspire me with real revelation.
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-765094.0.html#msg9196435
Its just not worth it.

Martian:
Yes, I said it. It's basic common sense, the person making the claim bears the burden of proof. You have to provide objective evidence that a neutral and reasonable person would accept as proof of your god. This is like beating a dead horse but if I came to you and told you I have an invicible body guard, you would ask me to prove it. If I said no; that you should disprove my unsubstantiated claim, then you would be well within your rights to call me crazy. So, if I tell you with absolute certainty that my invisible body guard is real and i asked you to prove he is a non entity, what kind of science and logic would bring you to the conclusion that my body guard isn't real?? Riddle me that.
GBAM !!!
Thats why I say it isnt worth it. No matter how many times you repeat it, no matter what you say, certain people will stick to their arguments and come up with the most inane excuses/arguments that have since shamed their deity into non-existence. When all else fails, they come up with insults and tags.

@manmustwac, thanks.

@jayriginal: I know that there are many religions that claims all sorts. You see, Christianity, according to John 14:6 there Jesus boldly claimed "I am the way the truth and the life, " check out the creedal content of the rest and see if any one came out so boldly and clearly. There is no missing it if you follow Him. As per the other demon inspired congrigations pls find time to read mathew 12:22-37 with open mind of course; power pass power.
The question really is how do you know for sure that yours is the right religion ? Other religions also claim to be right and their adherents have as much faith in their chosen religion (possibly more) as you do in yours.
Pointing to the bible is not a good argument because other religions also have their holy books which they also claim was handed down by God.

Seeing the post again reminds me that this tale of the "Imaginary City" ought to be a thread of its own.
In this wise then, I implore you to start a thread with this topic or at least allow me to do so (with due credit to you).

I BELIEVE IN GOD. I BELIEVE IN HIS SON JESUS CHRIST AS MY SAVIOUR. YOU KNOW WHAT? EVEN IF AM WRONG (THANKS TO GOD AM NOT) I HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE ON THE LONG RUN. BUT IF AM RIGHT (THANKS TO GOD I AM) THEM YOU HAVE A DILEMMA IN YOUR HANDS.
@OP Paschals wager has been thoroughly refuted.
You dont believe in Allah or in Sango or in Amadioha or in Ayelala. If you are religious (and you are), you probably believe in "jazz" or juju.
Well, what if you are wrong ? What if Allah or Sango or Amadioha or the wonder working juju you believe (has power) in is the real deal ?
Then you have a lot to loose for backing the wrong horse.
When you consider how many religions there actually are, the probability that yours is the right one is really slim.

@jayriginal,
inasmuch as the scripture you quoted is true yet it is not applicable in all cases.
I was asking Olaadegbu, but thanks for your response all the same. In what case may it be said to be applicable ?

tessyade:
@jayriginal,

Why you have scriptures that said "Do not" as is the case in Hebrews 10 vs. 25, there is no need for personal conviction, it is a command. Is like when God said "do not steal" ,and you now quote the scripture you used to mean " i will not stop stealing until i am convinced personally that it is a wrong act. The order or instruction is from God so personal conviction or persuation does not apply here. Shalom!
This part, I honestly do not understand. Do you care to elucidate ?

Olaadegbu, in furtherance to my post above, can you please share your understanding of this verse (in light of the original post)
Colossians 2:16 which reads " Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days"

Together we have this
Romans 14:5 "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." and,
Colossians 2:16 which reads " Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days"

How do you interpret these, in light of the original post ?
Consider that the epistles of Paul were written long before the gospels, long long before there was a "bible" to speak of. Consider that they were written to address individual needs. Consider also that Paul tried to sever dependence on the laws of Moses (old testament) which Jesus considered immutable (Mathew 5:18 "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. And all has not been fulfilled yet so, ).
So, Olaadegbu, can you throw light on these bible passages espcially as regards the OP ?

You mean me I guess. Dont flatter yourself because you learnt a few latin phrases from the Flying Spaghetti Monster knows who .
I tend to take a back seat when science is being discussed one major reason being that it isnt my specialty. I never relied on science to loose my belief in the sky daddy. Science simply provides more plausible answers to primitive fairy tales. Also, science is not afraid of being wrong. That is the reason for its trustworthiness. Nothing is free from enquiry. Falsifying a theory is a trump for science unlike certain religions. I laugh when I see certan so called christian scientists here. I wonder if they would try to cure leprosy with the blood of birds.

As Isaac Asimov said "'Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.

The bible defeats itself when exposed to analysis, that is why man has invented so many excuses for "God".

OK. All the replies so far have not been fair.
@Olaadegbu, I disagree with many of your posts, but even till now, I do not recall seeing you insult people who disagree with you ( I may be wrong, but I think he takes without dishing out) so I am willing to accord you respect ( we must agree to disagree).
The poster is asking if it is compulsory to go to church on Sunday.

Lets look at Romans 14:5. How do you interpret it ? It reads according to the KJV "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Considering the original post, and this verse, if anyone interprets it to mean Sunday can be considered not special, what will be your counterpoint ?
Also consider that Sunday is not the actual Sabbath ( I expect any serious christian to know that).

Olaadegbu, I humbly await your reply.

PS
Please I beg you, engage me with your own understanding. Please do not rely on internet arguments as many do on this forum.
Thank you.

The founder and General Overseer of Synagogue Church of Christ while ministering on Monday during one of the church's programmes televised live on cable television, DSTV, Emmanuel Televison revealed that having watched the encounter in the spiritual realm, the outcome of the encounter was not favourable to the Nigerian lads.

The clergyman disclosed that only one goal was scored all through the 90 minutes
of the match, warning that the Super Eagles might lose the match based on what he saw.

He, however, explained that the result could still be positive but advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to seek the face of God through him on the issue before the must win match.

When Saturdaytribunesports contacted him, Prophet Joshua confirmed the 1-0 score line, saying that even though he did not state where the pendulum of victory would swing , he declared emphatically that Nigerians must pray fervently for Eagles'success.

He warned that the Super Eagles needed divine prayers to emerge victorious.

Efforts to get in touch with the coaching crew of the Super Eagles did not materialise as none of them was ready to speak about the development.

Prophet T.B Joshua is known for making accurate predictions, having predicted victory for the Super Eagles over Kenya in a 2010 World Cup qualifier played in Nairobi which the Eagles won 3-2 just as he predicted that the Starlets of Ghana would lift the FIFA U-17 World Cup staged in Egypt in 2009.

Oh, you've got a point there. To be amazed that somebody can predict somebody with precision is an indication of spiritual infantilism. What I find curious is that people can be fascinated even when it's not precise. What would they do then if it were? I watched a credible TV show (Tonight Show with Jay Leno) about a month ago and this magician had a T-shirt inside his dress shirt in which was written what Kim Kardashian would choose when he asked her a question. Of the hundreds or thousands of words, Kim chose the one pre-printed on that shirt! That's precision. Yet, we christians should not be fascinated by that. But if we can't do even better than that, what's the noise about? More important though, I think we're sliding into dangerous territory where we no longer examine true christianity on the basis of doctrine and wholesome character. So long as somebody shows miracles and prophecies, we can excuse every other thing on the basis that all christians have points of doctrinal divergence. May God have mercy on us all.

Theres this big tree in front on my school gate and one of the guys in the higher class told us that if anyone stay closes to the tree and calls a name, that before the next dawn, the name called would appear on the tree. seriously we tried it and found it to be so. when we took a closer look at the tree, we found countless inscribed names thereon. we kept wondering what could be responsible for these names. One adult did however say that the names were written by human beings who chose to play tricks on their fellows. I wonder how the numerous names that were on tree could have been written by human beings or a kind of spirit. I never bother to enquire further till i graduated. Today whilst driving pass the school vicinity, i notice the tree had been fell or completely uprooted. it sill remains a misery how those names found their way to the tree. Im still on the fence as to whats responsible for the names
While I was in secondary school, our Agric teacher told us some of his school stories. One in particular had to do with a tree that was tied with "juju".
According to him, the juju killed anyone that ate the fruit from the tree. Therefore, according to him, when he and his mates plucked the fruit, they first gave the "juju" to eat (therebye killing the "juju"wink.

Enigma:
Let us start with some positives in favour of TB Joshua, he said some things that are accurate albeit in generic terms:

1. Whoever scores first will "carry the day"
2. It will not be favourable for Nigeria

However, let me also say upfront that, while I have no proof, I strongly suspect that this particular video has been doctored with careful editing. In fact I suspect the same of other TB Joshua prophecy videos. Specifically on the one above:

1. When TB Joshua's followers and supporters told us of the prophecy before the match, according to them, TB Joshua said the teams were struggling for one goal e.g.

2. In fact the first person to start a thread on the prophecy did confirm a prediction of 1-0 and headlined that in thread title.

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-773184.0.html

3. A Newspaper claims (unless they are lying) that TB Joshua confirmed to them that the result would be 1-0

Link: http://tribune.com.ng/sat/index.php/sports/5490-eagles-beware-prophet-tb-joshua-warns.html

My own suspicion is that the video above has been edited such as to cut out those bits suggesting (strongly, apparently) a 1-0 result; in other words some "film-trick" is going on here.

cool
Joshua goofed on this. It was an intelligent guess though. The super eagles are not a generally high scoring side ( regard his prophecy on Brazil winning the world cup). The whole thing goes to show that TB Joshua is not only a fraud, he is also just an arm chair analyst. For the avoidance of doubt, lets see.

The clergyman disclosed that only one goal was scored all through the 90 minutes of the match, warning that the Super Eagles might lose the match based on what he saw.

Now, we can see a lot of hedging in the above. He is hesitant to tell us where victory will lie, but he positively insists there will be only one goal. The result must have crushed his ego.
Does anyone else notice that if Guinea or Nigeria had won with a single goal, the "prophecy" would have been fulfilled ?
Too bad for Mr Joshua, his clever football analysis got the better of him.

As an aside, I have to say that the analysis wasnt that bad coming from a human, but coming from the holy spirit, its another thing.

The man should have told us (since the holy spirit revealed to him) the names and exact score  (he did tell us the exact score; 1-0, without telling us who got the 1).

Minus one for the holy spirit then (cos it doesnt exist as TB Joshua has proven).

These laughably fake-looking tree men are in fact made using a technique called tree shaping. The trees are bound and grafted as they grow, forming them into all kinds of ridiculous shapes. If you're curious what a typical day looks like for the guy behind these painstaking sculptures, the answer is: exactly what you think.

The practice of training living trees and other woody plants into artistic shapes and useful structures is variously known as Pooktre, arborsculpture, tree training, tree shaping and by several other names. It is a form of living sculpture, sharing a common heritage with other artistic horticultural and agricultural practices, such as bonsai, espalier, and topiary, and employing some similar techniques. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_shaping

1) u are accusing me wrongly once again.

2) Now back to topic. Whats your opinion about the pixs posted?
1) You sef. Anyway, let me ignore that grin
2) As far as Im concerned, they are just pictures. I do not know whether they were photoshopped or not, but a picture like that is not necessarily proof of anything. Its a big world and if you search long and hard, you will find enough weird and unbelievable things.
Even if the pictures were not photoshopped or manipulated in anyway, they on their own do not prove anything.

Thats my opinion.

Pararan raran.

Photos dont really speak in these modernized days
Weren't you the one posting photos on the other thread to prove your point ?
How come you have suddenly changed your mind and you no longer consider photos as proof in "these modernized days" ?

Evil Brain:
This is a dangerous line of thinking. If you follow it to its logical conclusion you'd discover that the whole story makes no sense and there isn't and cannot be an omniscient and omnipotent god.

Unless you want to become an atheist, I advise you to turn off your brain now!
grin

We already have an invented god. He is called the Flying Spaghetti Monster. You heathens and unbelievers had better repent and worship him. Otherwise, you will spend eternity in the dark place where there is no corn-beef stew and there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Didn't know you were a Pastafarian.
His Holy Noodliness was not invented though. He is and was and shall be. Ramen !
