We know for the most part that anything goes in Nigeria. And to add to that there is no automatic birth data capture. If not for MRI I would never have celebrated any of our U17 triumphs. Let’s be realistic we are not a people of integrity. It is systems in place that drive a culture. Where that is lacking you have a largely negative culture. The latter is the case here. Danielnino00: I thought you were a professor of English language... how did u miss the "must" in my post eh?
The highlighted words below are enough proof already.
You are indirectly telling us that any player born in Nigeria is a suspect of age cheat cus the automatic data capture at birth,(which according to you is the major evidence to determine somebody's age) is missing in Nigeria. |

Nigerians, firstly, have to compete FAIRLY within the country for us to be able to compete well internationally. If we don’t get things right at the home front we will never get to see our true potential. Every state should make effort to PRODUCE and MOTIVATE athletes and show how much they have been successful at the NSF. Delta should be emulated. There is no short cut to international success. Nigerian athletes repping other countries are not based in Nigeria, but in that country mostly. The other country contribute in a big way to their training, welfare prior to the competitions and subsequently. Importing a player just for the NSF is purely for the purpose of gaining advantage in the medals table. It doesn’t say much as to how well the said state has fared in sports development Princezibk: I see no wrong in inviting other athletes will to rep them...don’t we see naijas reppin other countries too and it starts this way...my only concern is how they keep and continue to nurture their talents for the future and greater stardom |

Up till now you have failed to defend your earlier position that athletes should represent the state of their origin regardless of where they are based. If you are truly with me in terms of brooding new talents you will agree that this is a problem as much as importing players from other states is a problem.i saw the tribal undertone in your first post and I have already said what I have to say. Yes there are many gray areas. Like for example there is one athlete by last name Itsekiri, who competed for Rivers State although the athlete is a PRODUCT of Delta State. We can’t really make generalizations that Niger-Delta states imported players from other states because even within the Niger-Delta States you would find athletes representing a different state for various reasons. Some may be residents of the other states, some may have been offered the opportunity for various reasons. We will really have to look more closely to make any meaningful conclusion. However, my position remains, if the NSF was put together to measure the level of sports development per state, fielding resident athletes would be an appropriate thing to do. I’m saying majority of the athletes representing a state should be residents of that state. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a rule, but that idea should be promoted, else we cannot really tell how well a state has invested in sports development based on the number of medals they won. do4luv14: there are many of them out there whose state does not pick them, and due to their desire to compete, join/offer to compete for another state
while other are jst like my dad is a riverian, while my mum is a lagosian
if my dad state do not pick, them my mum state will |

How is buying athletes different from getting athletes to compete for you just because they originated from that state on the basis of tribe ALONE? I’m saying both are a problem. You are saying just one is the problem. Danielnino00: It gives athletes the opportunity to showcase their at the game...
Imagine your state denying the chance of competing because they have paid another athlete to represent them already...
One of the reasons why we keep underperforming at international sport event is because we keep recycling athletes every time. Those ones haven't achieved anything already so why don't we give others a chance? |

Ok let’s leave the Delta issue. How does athletes competing based on their state of origin - not residency - a reflection of the level of sports development in each state? Danielnino00: Its alright. I wonder why he would think that since NSF is to promote sports development in each state, the appropriate thing is that athletes should compete for thier state of origin regardless of the state that has been responsible for their all round development. Why? Modified If there has been buying of athletes by states, how prevalent was it to the extent that it would greatly impact the medals table? Or are we making generalizations from a few incidences? jihday: bros calm down, he asked an innocent question which I've also observed after I saw Tobi Amusan running for Delta and Tbaba have answered the question, no need to get agitated there's no sentiment whatsoever he was only been curious |

Of course I know you had already came to that conclusion before your so called innocent question. Delta State amassed lots of medals. How many were won by athletes from other states of origin? (Or from a particular tribe like you would want us to believe) Amd why are u dodging the salient point I just made. How does competing based on state of origin - not residence - demonstrate the level of sports development in each state? Modified Representing a state that did not contribute to your career just because the state is your state of origin is as bad as states buying athletes to compete for them. NSF as an indicator to sports development in each state the context here Danielnino00: None of the non-deltans who represented Delta states grew up in Warri or wherever... they might never have set foot there self ..Likewise other athletes...
They were bought over....Shikena |

I’m not tbaba. Oga I already said in my earlier post. If u grew up in Warri, will you rather go to your state of origin to use their sports facilities to train? How feasible will that be? That’s an example kind of contribution I’m taking about. It’s just how many of us are wired. How does competing based on your state of origin — not residence — indicate how well each states have done in sports development? Think am na Danielnino00: Lol...Contributed most to the athlete's development in terms of money abi....
Like tbaba said.they represented the highest bidder. and biko, stop placing too much emphasis on Delta state...I never referred to delta state in my post....Everybody knows that Delta state has contributed a lot of athletes in Nigeria sport...
Anyway, let's hope the performance of the athletes improve at the all Africa games next year |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:46pm On Dec 18, 2018 |
From my research so far most of the medal winners from Delta state are from Delta State. I’m still looking into it. Modify. Let me add. If the games is to promote sport development in the individual states it shouldn’t be a matter of state of origin but the state that have contributed most to the athlete’s development. And that what I meant by tribal sentiments earlier. Danielnino00: Oga...I never made any claim...I just want to know why athletes were representing other States rather than their States of origin since the aim of the game was for sport development in each state of the country... Mind you, there were easterners representing northern states and vice versa.
Tbaba already answered my question anyway.... |

are you saying majority of the medals won by the Niger-delta states were won by athletes from another state of origin, or are your examples just exceptions? Take delta state for example. Danielnino00: Funke Oshonaike representing Rivers state too.. Tobi Amusan representing Delta state..

How many of such cases (like Segun) did u see? Danielnino00: There's no tribal sentiment in my question.... I followed the tournament well enough and saw names of athletes from different States representing other states... States that they weren't born or lived in.. Somebody like Segun Toriola who is from Kwara represented Rivers state ..
My question was borne out of curiosity since the objective of the game is to promote sport development in each state of the federation... |

Nigerians and our funny reasoning. Must everything be based on tribal sentiments? If you are an Igbo and you were born and bred in Lagos, schooled in Lagos and trained with facilities in Lagos as result of your state of residence, what is the chance that you will represent you state of origin, (Abia state for example) — slim. I personally will rep the state that has contributed most to my everything. Danielnino00: There's something I found amusing at the games.. Some athletes represented other states other than their States of origin. I saw Yoruba athletes representing Niger Delta States and Igbos representing Northern States.. Do some States buy athletes or are the athletes allowed to represent any state of their choice? I'm really curious |
