Isaac Success was handed his first start in the English Premier League this season and was crucial to Watford securing a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to coach Javi Gracia.

After a bright, unprecedented start to the season, the Hornets were dealt a rude awakening by Manchester United on Matchday 5, narrowly losing the game 2-1. And prior to Saturday’s win, the Vicarage Road outfit hit a slump, winless in their next three league games.

Ahead of the travel to the Molineux Stadium, captain Troy Deeney picked up a hamstring strain and could not make the trip.

However, stunners from Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra in the 20th and 21st minutes helped the visitors return to winning ways and the manager has highlighted the effect of his tactical switch.

“We were playing with one striker and Roberto, Gerard [Deulofeu] and Will [Hughes] behind him [Success]. You can find a different style of play than you can with two strikers,” Gracia said.

“I know Gerard is not in the best condition yet but he helped the team to play well and to get a good result.”

According to Gracia, Deeney is not expected to sit out for long as he should be ready for Huddersfield Town’s visit.

However, it is yet to be seen what role Success plays for the seventh-placed side on Saturday.

Alex Iwobi revealed the role Mesut Ozil and Unai Emery have played in helping him produce his best football for Arsenal in his career. The 22-year-old has always shown glimpses of his potential under Arsene Wenger, but has managed to reach new heights with Emery as his coach this season. Iwobi picked up the man-of-the-match award in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Leicester City on Monday, ahead of goalscorers Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Ozil captained Arsenal against Leicester and inspired the comeback victory with a superb finish, and Iwobi hailed the forward for his help on the training pitch. ‘I have been training with him since I was 17 and I have seen what he can do,’ Iwobi said. ‘The quality he has is not just in training but as you can see in the match last night, he is a world-class player and he proved that again.

‘Mesut will come across as laid back but he is helping everyone in a different way and he helps me a lot. ‘He gives me advice in a different way: he jokes around but always tell me I can do more – even [against Leicester] he was saying I can do more, he is always one of those guys. ‘But he is always happy, always telling me and giving me the confidence to express myself so it helps me.’ Emery took over from Wenger at Arsenal

The win over Leicester was Arsenal’s tenth victory in a row, as the Gunners have gone from strength to strength under Emery’s guidance. Arsenal fans are even hopeful their side could launch a title tilt, and Iwobi revealed how Emery has helped him improve this season. ‘For me, he has just given me confidence to express myself, to believe in my ability which I have been trying to show and basically also in training he is always letting me try new things, be positive, be direct and prove it in the game,’ Iwobi said.

‘It is working for me so I just have to keep it going. I am more confident, I feel that even if I make a mistake I am able to go again. I think that is the difference between me last year and this year.’

Arsenal are now level on points with Chelsea and remain just two points behind league leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Oghenekaro Etebo will not be available for selection when Stoke City face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the EFL Championship on Tuesday, October 23.

The Potters number eight started as a holding midfielder along with Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi in the two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya in Uyo and Sfax.

Medical tests carried out after he returned to the United Kingdom last week revealed that he suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty.

Etebo does not want to rush himself back from the injury and has been undergoing light training.

He joins the queue for the Super Eagles treatment room behind Chievo Verona's Joel Obi, Bursaspor's Abdullahi Shehu and Galatasaray's Henry Onyekuru ahead of next month's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

Obi has not played for The Flying Donkeys for a month due to a knee discomfort, Shehu suffered a muscle contraption in the quadriceps on his right leg which led to his substitution after 18 minutes against Libya in Uyo while Onyekuru faces at least one month on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, it is not all bad news as Trabzonspor's Eddy Onazi was cleared to suit up for the Turkish club in yesterday's game against Erzurumspor after pulling out of the Nigeria squad for the games against the Mediterranean Knights.

In addition, Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo is expected to fully recover before CD Leganes upcoming La Liga match against Levante.

Alex Iwobi was officially named the Man of the Match in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

The Man of the Match accolade is given to the most outstanding player from either team by the Premier League sponsors.

In his post-match analysis, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves questioned the decision to name Iwobi Man of the Match and stressed that the Gunners captain on the night, Mesut Ozil had more impact than the Nigeria international.

Speaking on Premier League Fan Zone, ex-Crystal Palace and Leicester City striker Mark Bright echoed the words of Hargreaves, saying he's surprised that the German was snubbed for the award.

Ozil became the highest scoring German in Premier League history with 30 goals after scoring the Gunners equalizer in the 45th minute, and provided the assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's second goal in the 66th minute.

William Troost-Ekong has had a tough time in his last four matches for Udinese in the Italian Serie A and manager Julio Velázquez has run out of patience with the Super Eagles star.

Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has told SportingLife.ng that he would love to have Everton striker Ademola Lookman who is on loan to RB Leipzig of Germany to form a deadly partnership with Eagles’ top striker Odion Ighalo if player shows quick interest in joining the Nigeria national football team.

Rohr who also revealed that he is still hungry to have the best Eagles squad that can stand the test of time said that even if Lookman eventually joins the team he must prove to be better that players already playing in his position before he joined.

The Eagles’ handler said that in as much as the player is on his list he must show enough interest interest in playing for his fatherland since he has already played for the Under 19 to 21 of his adopted country England.

“(Ademola) Lookman is on our list. He is a good player and very fast too. I would be happy if he can show enough interest to join the Eagles because we will have many options in the attack of the team. He would be exciting playing alongside Ighalo.

” I am aware that the NFF is working out something but you know that Lookman has played for England’s U-19, U-20 and U-20. So there are processes to be done to make him eligible to play for us (Eagles). Lookman also has to decide on time because the NFF has to process his authorization from FIFA. He must also prove that he is better than the players already in the team”, Rohr disclosed.

The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation Dr. Sanusi Muhammed however confirmed to SportingLife.ng that the Federation is working on how to bring the player to the Eagles but has not gone far on the issue.

“We are still looking at the modalities. We will discuss with the Coach (Rohr) to know what to do next. We have not gone far on the issue”, Sanusi disclosed.
