Flawed assessment. I mentioned something he did of note. He was not the weak link in attack. goldfish80: Exactly, based on the ratings, Iwobi was clearly rated the worst player for Arsenal. This is by no way an attack on Iwobi but truth must be told at all times, irrespective of who is involved, be it your favorite player or least favourite player. We owe that much to ourselves as least. |

How do u determine overall quality? That’s the crux of the matter. Onazi was a regular at Lazio, but has faired badly for a Super Lig mid-table team. tbaba1234: I made it clear. Overall quality not individual player quality.
Agbo was a relegation team player in la liga but is playing for one of the best teams in Belgium. |

Really, we can argue both ways. For example Someone leaves the Spanish league and starts from the bench in several games in the Championship, some can conclude from that, that the Championship is better than La Liga. There are several factors. Some players may not measure up immediately in a more physical challenging league and may need time to settle down. We are too quick to make conclusions. Belgian clubs have not fared badly in UEFA competitions. Really, it would be hard for us to rate these second division leagues.Uche Agbo has decent games in La Liga. Is he suddenly worse than Championship league players because he plays in Belgium? tbaba1234: Is the Belgian league better than the Championship in England or Bundesliga 2 in terms of overall quality??
Just because it is first division in a country does not make it quality.
Personally, i would want all Nigerian players to be in the top leagues but we do not have that right now. |

That was my very first post. Read my other posts. This is where we differ. You want the team to take on Liberia to be dominated by homebased players. I’m saying if any homebased players should be considered it should be the very good ones from those we have been seeing, after you made a case that some are still active despite the NPFL is on hold. There are lots of our players in Europe doing pretty well who haslve never been given the opportunity to be seen. What’s the point if most of your homebased players who we have seen can barely break into the main SE team? BascoVanVeli: Abeg oga I can read small o!! U clearly said the best had been given opportunities already. |

I had already said the good ones can be picked. Which one u dey yap? BascoVanVeli: So we should stop calling home base guys because 23 guys were selected for CHAN? So every other AMF in Nigeria should not be given an opportunity because 50 yr old Rabiu Ali showcased himself? Thank u very much. |

Firstly, I never said it was a fine assist. Arsenal’s other forwards did not have nice first half stats either. The change was purely tactical. The ratings are out. goldfish80: As a forward player, How many shots on goal did he have? How many chances did he create? Why was he subbed at half time if was offering so much on the wings? You're making a case for an assist to be credited to him because he chased a ball down and probably got the faintest of touches to Monreal? Let's be real mehn. |

At first I thought it didn’t touch him until after several replays. rabzy: The suspected deflection was not when he was inside the post, if so it would have been his goal. It was the attempted lunge by him for the ball before it got the Montreal. Though I don't think it touched him at all, imo the keeper pushed the ball into Montreal. |

Haha I don’t think you are watching the match. Didn’t u see him charging forward when the ball was crossed? It deflected off him slightly before falling to Montreal. Na only post u dey look. Modified Na ghost back track save Arsenal from a West Ham promising build up. Na ghost they put in several decent passes. Kwantinue. goldfish80: I don't understand. How could he have been part of the build up when he staggering to get back to his feet inside the net. Please let's not miss lead people who are not watching. Iwobi had nothing to do with the goal. He was in ghost mode in this game. |

Kai Iwobi had a decent half. You guys are making it look like he was the poor link. He was not at fault for that goal ChrisKels: Iwobi wasn't imposing in this match and he had nothing to do with the goal scored by Monreal, infact he gave away the ball that led to the goal against Arsenal. All these led to his premature sub. KPOM! |

They were never given the opportunity, that’s my point. The best of your home based players have had the chance to showcase themselves several times. Why am I even repeating myself? BascoVanVeli: If the players you want to take were not good enough for the main list then what is your point? |

Homebased players will always get an opportunity to showcase themselves. I’m talking of players who will hardly get a chance whether for the main SE or the CHAN team. Players need opportunity. We have a rough idea of the best players we have in the home front based on what we have seen from the WAFU nations cup, CHAN and the Atletico friendly. If these players are truly not good enough for he main SE, what’s the point? Granted we can pick a few of them that are really good. BascoVanVeli: There is no excuse that can validate not inviting the home guys for a friendly against Liberia. Yes the league is on hold but every single club has been actively playing friendlies and Enyimba has even gone on to win a big match in the continent. |

The problem is who would you invite instead? Do we have forwards scoring consistently? Or would you invite an equally average forward playing in a lower league? We are not spoilt for choices in attack. edi287: This was the point I was trying to make when I said Nacho wasn't in top form. But for some strange reason, it was seen as taking a jab at him. |

Idowu is the only left back we have now. I think he is okay. But that kind of player should not even be on the bench of a strong team. There is still lots of work to do in this SE team. We have no option but to turn to the lower divisions. We’ve seen Madu and Amuzie who are largely bench warmers. Let’s see what Collins can bring. Kog45: Options? why not.It all depends on Rohr.

Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:09pm On Aug 25, 2018 |
My point is you drop a player on the back of sever poor national team showing, and that does not mean he won’t be invited subsequently. A player has no business being a regular bench warmer especially when there are other deserving players dying for a chance. Modified Let me sum this up by saying my point is find the best competition for the regulars. TheLoneCitizen: You stated "The big positives is that Echiejile has been shown the way out. But if for example Collins cannot threaten Idowu’s place, we want to see what Deji can do right away. If Deji can’t, let’s see ikwuowem right away. If Ikwuowem fails, let’s see Duru right away.et it rotate until we have another viable option. I mean this for all the playing positions. The regulars should be pushed constantly. That’s my position." That's trial and error.
Look at Leighton Baines of Everton, he is facing new competition from Lucas Digne, but he doesn't just see his position taken outrightly, he is eased out of the squad.
If you want Onazi to be out of the team, you don't just stop inviting him, you ease him out of the squad, these are senior players. Germany can't just stop inviting Tony Kroos, look at the way Nainggolan was eased out of the Belgian squad. |

Your past national team performance should be in present continuous terms. Etebo gave a good account of himself at the Mundial. You can’t be rewarding players based on that they did in 2016/2017 when since then they have been poor. Like I said earlier, we can only conclude that Etebo’s form has dropped when we assess him in the National team. For uncapped players, we can only judge from recent club performances. Modified You seem to be making a different argument. I’m speaking of building a formidable bench that pushes the regulars constantly. No be trial and error. TheLoneCitizen: If a player should be invited only based on club performance, rather than on the strength of past national performance, then what's Etebo doing in the squad?
You don't run a national team on trial and error, so just because Ospina had a subdued season for Arsenal, he shouldn't have made it into the Colombian World Cup squad? They would have lost a good GK due to unrealistic theories.
A national team is ought to be judged on pragmatism not idealism. When Joachim Low played the Confederation Cup, he invited only young new faces, but he also brought in two proven players Emre Can and Shkodran Mustafi.
As I said Joel and Onazi might not start, but they were invited so if the midfield fails, the coach has proven and known players to turn to. Not that he turns to the bench and sees another Ebere Eze or what's-his-face.
Onazi isn't bad in my opinion, just had a bad day. |
