The advantage medical schools in public universities have is the experience of the medical teaching staff. Private schools can’t beat that of course unless they employ expatriates. All you need is a pace-setter, and other private schools will want to copy. We have so many public schools that have been in operation, and because they are government owned they are damned to struggle for many more years. However, with private school promotes better competition. That’s needed to raise the standard with time. One question, please could you tell me how does UI curriculum differ from that of UNILAG for example? I’m not basing this discussion medical school alone. Of course you know medicine is only one course. Mickael2: I gave you an example, not exactly a general statement. I mean the dude was my course mate but he failed his MBBS and had to graduate in MCB and graduated with second class upper and that's how he got the lecturing job at Landmark. The problem is that lecturers there sef are not well paid, let me not start what we can't finish. By the way if private universities are going to be our saviour like you put it, then why aren't they there yet? See UI, just little investment and they broke into the top 1000 in the world, if the government could spend half as much as these private schools spend on infrastructure and all what not, trust me we would have at least 10 public universities in the top 500 at least. Forget the long talk, public universities with proper funding would easily save Nigeria's education system |

Madam read my post and read your response again. I’m against generalization. In terms of 21st century education standard, no Nigerian public school meets up. Many graduates cannot function if they can’t find a job. That’s the reality of today. You will find some students who take it upon themselves and push harder to develop themselves outside the school curriculum. Those are the ones who do well. You just circled out 3 private schools. Well done! The one I was referring to in my earlier post is one of the 3 u mentioned. safarigirl: aside Covenant, Babcock, and ABUAD, you would be hard-pressed to find a decent private University in Nigeria, most of them are just filled with kids whose parents wanted to get rid of them early and bundled them to the first school that would take them.
You cannot compare them to public schools like UNN, UI, Unillorin or Unizik, especially as regards professional courses.
I remember the day Nike University in Abuja visited my school's Law Clinic, we were all scandalized by their outfits even. In most Law Faculties in Nigeria, they make us wear black trousers with white corporate shirts and a tie for guys, with black shoes. These kids didn't even wear the black and white outfit, some of them had on slippers, no tie, one was dressed like batman and another was dressed like she was going clubbing. We were all shocked they would let their students dress in that manner for an official outing and about a week later, when some of us had to visit their school, the DG of Law School had to ask our students to stand up to show the Nike University students how to dress up as a Law student.
If they can't teach them something that basic, what else are they missing out on?
See ehn, aside Covenant, Babcock and ABUAD, every other private school in this Nigeria na wash |

“What makes a nation third world? Despite everevolving definitions, the concept of the third world serves to identify countries that suffer from high infant mortality, low economic development, high levels of poverty, low utilization of natural resources, and heavy dependence on industrialized nations. These are the developing and technologically less advanced nations of Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America. Third world nations tend to have economies dependent on the developed countries and are generally characterized as poor with unstable governments and having high rates of population growth, illiteracy, and disease. A key factor is the lack of a middle class — with impoverished millions in a vast lower economic class and a very small elite upper class controlling the country's wealth and resources. Most third world nations also have a very large foreign debt. (What makes a nation third world? from Encyclopedia of World Geography)“ http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/third_world_countries.htmModified Definitions from the link: __ Definitions point The term "First World" refers to so called developed, capitalist, industrial countries, roughly, a bloc of countries aligned with the United States after World War II, with more or less common political and economic interests: North America, Western Europe, Japan and Australia. Countries of the "First World" point "Second World" refers to the former communist-socialist, industrial states, (formerly the Eastern bloc, the territory and sphere of influence of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republic) today: Russia, Eastern Europe (e.g., Poland) and some of the Turk States (e.g., Kazakhstan) as well as China. Countries of the "Second World" point "Third World" are all the other countries, today often used to roughly describe the developing countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America. The term Third World includes as well capitalist (e.g., Venezuela) and communist (e.g., North Korea) countries, as very rich (e.g., Saudi Arabia) and very poor (e.g., Mali) countries. Nigeria a third world country?
Does some of you even know the definition of that word?
A country that gives aid both financially and otherwise to other countries a third world country?
Not organised- Yes But a third world? Please go back to school.
For educational purposes: the word "third world" is outdated and ambiguous. What we have are (1) Developed countries (2) Developing countries and (3) Underdeveloped countries.
You can decide where you think Nigeria belong based on your current reality.

Very untrue. You cannot generalize when it comes to private universities, take it from me. It’s not business as usual in every school. As it stands it’s private universities that would save Nigeria’s tertiary education. As ironic as that may sound, mark my words. I know a private university that graduates fully baked students ready for the REAL world. Many of these graduates who take up running businesses are doing fine. Solid education no be about read and pour out for exam. Take it from me. Mickael2: Forget this long talk about private universities. Almost all of them are not even up to any standard. The other day I was with a friend who is lecturing in Landmark and he said that immediately after every exam you will see parents coning around to tell you that they paid millions as tuition fee so their wards cannot fail and what choice do you have? So they create a false sense of academic excellence but even there the learning structure is worse than it is in public schools. I find it appalling that people will want to talk about good schools and add private universities.
then is it hospitals that we will talk about? make we just leave matter for Mathias |

Thank you! Sadly, our mentality says “My family and myself are doing well. So all is well” We need to learn to speak the truth to ourselves. If you want to lie to foreigners, fine. But if we are gonna fix something here, it starts by telling ourselves the truth. TheGoodJoe: How does lying help us in any way? The truth can be hidden but not changed. Nigerians are going through hell. The crime rate is going up because of untold hardship. I am in development and I can tell you first hand. Go to public hospitals and see the amount of people that die daily due to the lack of good Medicare.
If to you saying the truth of the plight of Nigerians means saying thrash about the country, then I will keep saying thrash. I will stand for truth and not lies.
If we do not do something about the billions meant for Social welfare, job creation, Medicare provision, constant power supply etc, then things will keep getting worse.
Evil thrives when good do nothing about it, let alone lying to make it look like the crooks are angels.

Not if you can my friend, how well? forgiveness: Nigeria is not serious yet hosted 1999 FIFA U20 world cup, 2000 Afcon and 2009 FIFA U17 world cup yet none of these so called countries have been able to do that save Egypt.

Infrastructure, good organization culture. What are the chances that there is going to be power outages if we host? How about organization lapses? Oga we know our way. You got this one wrong Mr Rohr. From your experience? Abeg tell us those experiences where Yusuf got out unscathed? I see, you both don’t need the money. Kwantinue. If I be you I for shut up. jimmyiovine: http://tv5.espn.com/football/nigeria/story/3584755/salisu-yusuf-backed-as-honest-victim-by-gernot-rohr
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has thrown his weight behind his assistant Salisu Yusuf, who is the subject of an internal NFF investigation after he was secretly filmed receiving cash from undercover reporters posing as football agents.
Yusuf has denied that the money was a bribe, describing it as a 'token', and Rohr has now come to the defence of his assistant
"I saw the video, and I saw what happened," Rohr told KweséESPN. "From my experience, Salisu is an honest man.
"Those people just want to make trouble, this is people just trying to catch some people," he added. "Salisu does not need that money, he is a victim of this situation."
The assistant coach, who doubles up as the coach of Nigeria's Olympics team and the home-based Eagles, is currently in the UK recovering from hip surgery.
However, he is expected to face the NFF's Ethics Committee upon his return, where Rohr is hopeful of a positive outcome.
"I hope the Ethics Committee will listen to him and not to those people," the German coach concluded, "because I know he is an honest man and a good man."
When the BBC published footage allegedly showing Yusuf receiving a cash gift from investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on July 24, he became the latest high-profile African footballing figure to have been implicated in the ongoing bribery scandal affecting sport on the continent.
In footage filmed in September 2017, the coach is shown meeting with Anas's Tiger Eye agency and accepting cash ostensibly to ensure that two players are selected for the CHAN tournament.
Anas's exposes have already resulted in the disintegration of the Ghana Football Association after former president Kwesi Nyanyakyi was allegedly shown accepting a cash gift of $65,000 (£48,000).
Similarly, Kenyan referee Marwa Range had to resign his World Cup post, and was subsequently banned by CAF for all football-related activities, after being allegedly recorded taking bribes.
Range was one of several officials who were handed a range of bans by African football's governing body.
Soo Rohr is backing his assistant, I doubt NFF will sack Yusuf now |

See the earlier modified. Then ask yourself since you are well travelled. Can we present a better AFCON experience than South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia? If all the forementioned presented a bid to host the World Cup for example, rank their seriousness to host based on what is already on ground? Talk truth forgiveness: With what will well traveled disagree?
I have been to atleast one or two countries in West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, Middle East and Asia, so I know we might not be in the same level with the later two but the rest no reach us.
So, there is nothing to disagree about if Africa is the scale S.I unit measurement used to measure standard.
We are not comparing ourselves with America of Europe neither are hosting FIFA world cup.

Many Nigerians who are well travelled will disagree. I’ve been in Abuja continuously for 5 months now, and spent a considerable amount of time in Lagos. For one thing, Lagos has serious transportation challenges. Can Lagos host? Why not. But the question remains can we deliver the BEST AFCON experience ever? I beg to differ Modified How good are our airports (the first impression) etc? Definitely not a great experience for players who are well travelled and have seen better facilities in some other African countries. forgiveness: Yes, we can host it.
We have good cities with good infrastructures like good roads, good hotels, airports, capital projects such as stadiums, training camps, athlete villages, hospitals and transport hubs, restaurants, mobile media, malls, security etc
Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Uyo and Kano can provide these infrastructures. |
