We’ve not seen him much on the wings lately, but good point. Farzat: I sympathize with Simon Moses. He really deserve to be in Russia. Maybe his enemies and those journalists writing trash about him should be satisfied now. Meanwhile Etebo should be his best replacement for d LW position for now. Etebo played d LW position at d Olympics and was very dangerous there. He has no business in d middle of d field for d SE, LW should be d best position to utilize his energy, defensive n attacking abilities. But if we need a winger that offers something different, then Onyekuru should be invited if he's fully fit. As for Musa, we know he cant start any match, we also know he cant make any positive difference from d bench yet nobody is talking about dropping him. |

Ighalo as winger will be like us playing Moses as wing back. His goals return for SE is not great even as a CF. playing him at the wing will be a big minus like u already insinuated It’s up to Rohr to pick from outside the 30 OMANBALA1: Ighalo can play from the wing but that will eliminate the only top 9 we have....Rohr should have considered a 35 man list. |

Is Kayode also good defensively? tbaba1234: Junior Ajayi does not offer what Simon offers in terms of pace and directness. If i am to pick a replacement, i will choose Kayode since he can play from the wings.
But i do not think, a replacement is required. |

Very good point. Which player would be a like-for-like replacement then? Can I think of any in form winger? Junior Ajayi maybe. Is he also good defensively? forgiveness: A player in the mold of Simon Moses is not Onyekuru because Simon can defend and attack at the same time but Onyekuru can attack but defensively not good.
Besides, I thought we were made to understand that Rohr picked players based on recent form. Has Onyekuru picked up form lately? |

That would be Rohr’s call. I was just correcting the misconception that it is against FIFA’s regulations. tbaba1234: Thanks, Let us see what happens then. It is unlikely that a sub will be called from outside the list. |

The bolded is not true. Arguing that another player can also play from the wings is a whole different thing. tbaba1234: No player outside the 30 can be added to the team. The absence of Simon Moses is a blow because it limits our wing options. Kelechi Iheanacho has been deployed on the wings in training and has been the most impressive player in training so far. |

How many wingers do we have more in the team? Just Musa and Moses.. and maybe Iwobi. Rohr had said he picked 2 players in each position first before a meeting with all the rest of the staff to decide the remaining players to make the 30 man list. I want to guess that there might be a call up to replace Moses Simon. Success, Onyekuru? Have your guess.. unless Rohr is satisfied with Lokosa as a winger. Just thinking. OMANBALA1: I know some will say I don do village things to Simon Moses. Kpele, egbon Simon. |

I love the bolded BascoVanVeli: Unai Emery sees massive potential in Arsenal youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alex Iwobi
Pre-season cannot come soon enough for Unai Emery following his appointment as Arsene Wenger’s successor.
The 46-year-old impressed in his opening press conference as Arsenal manager and, with formalities now out of the way, work must begin on bolstering the squad he has inherited at the Emirates.
While Emery praised the ‘talent’ of his new players, there’s no doubt that the Gunners will be busy this summer, with the defence and midfield in dire need of reinforcements.
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis gave a glowing account of Emery’s performance during the interview process and has now highlighted the Spaniard’s forensic attention to detail.
It was Emery’s impeccable knowledge of every aspect of Arsenal Football Club and, in particular, his detailed analysis of youngsters such as Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alex Iwobi which caught Gazidis’ attention.
‘What was really impressive was when you scratched the surface to go deeper and deeper and deeper,’ he told Arsenal’s official website.
‘If we were speaking about one of our young players, if we targeted Ainsley Maitland-Niles for example, Unai knows Ainsley.
‘He’s watched him, he’s familiar with his patterns of play, his capabilities, he’s very excited about his potential and was able to talk about how excited he was to work with Ainsley, to develop him as a player.
‘Very specifically, when you asked the follow-up question and the follow-up question and the follow-up question, you’d get more and more depth about how exactly he would do that, exactly how him and his team would work with an individual player to develop them into the best player they can possibly be and also within the team dynamic.
‘There are a lot of platitudes in the game of football, a lot, and people can speak at a surface level very easily to sound confident and impressive.
‘What’s impressive to me is when you scratch through that and you get deeply involved in what exactly they mean.’
According to The Times, Emery’s camp are also looking closely at Iwobi ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
It’s claimed that coaches in Spain were taken aback by the Nigerian’s performance against Barcelona in 2016 and saw enormous potential.
At the time, Iwobi was yet to even make his full Premier League debut but produced an assured performance in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat at the Nou Camp.
While Iwobi is yet to fulfill that early potential, Emery is confident that he can get the best out of the 22-year-old.
Emery highlighted Arsenal’s rich history of producing youngsters following his unveiling.
‘I’ve never seen anything handed out for free in football,’ he said.
‘And in terms of Arsenal and their history, the young players have always earned those opportunities.’

Mikel Agu probably played at the right side of midfield for team A, because he was replaced by Shehu. While Agbo played at the left side of midfield. In another report, it was said that Ogu played a modern day DM, so mostly likely he played deep, whereas Mikel Obi played in an advanced position. I'm not sure if Iheanacho actually played as a wing forward. But Lokosa most likely played from the left side. [See Formation Attached] Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr split the squad into two teams after the usual physical exercises in Saturday morning's workout at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Team A who wore blue bibs on top of their green training jerseys contained : goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Ola Aina, Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem in central defense, Brian Idowu left-back, Mikel Obi, Mikel Agu, Uche Agbo and John Ogu in midfield, and Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi in attack.
Team B with just the green training jersey had goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, Tyronne Ebuehi, central defenders Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun, left-back Elderson Echiejile, Joel Obi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Eddy Onazi in midfield, while Simy, Iheanacho and Junior Lokosa occupied the offensive positions.
Stephen Eze, Ahmed Musa, Abdullahi Shehu, Dele Ajiboye and Daniel Akpeyi were among the substitutes.
Team B won the practice game 3-1, with Iheanacho netting a hat-trick for his side and Ighalo scoring the only goal for Team A.
Though the Leicester City striker scored all the goals, it was Torino's Obi that stood out for Team B with his passes from deep midfield but he also closed down the opponents and sometimes won the ball back.
Stephen Eze replaced Omeruo, who himself subbed in for Ekong in the other team, Ahmed Musa replaced Iwobi, Agu was substituted for Shehu, while goalkeepers Ajiboye and Akpeyi replaced Uzoho and Ezenwa respectively after the water break.
