kai those last lines.. love it!
tbaba1234:
Tribalist is a derogatory term.. Check your definition again.. It clearly states that. It is not just 'strong ties to tribe'.

Meriam Webster defines tribalist as

"an advocate of tribalism'

Exalting your tribe over others.

That is not the essence of being a human.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:19pm On May 26, 2018
And let me add our corrupt leaders and as a matter of fact when it come to chop chop tribe is forgotten. it's just the lower classes that have nothing to hold on to, that are always on this tribe bs. Hence, I agree with you on this

komekn:
From my experience when thier is money to chop there is no religion and no tribe. Just the colour of the money.

With respect to the players in the team, I can mention some monikers that you can hardly tell where they are from based on their utterances as regards player selection etc.. what makes you a tribalist is the the behavior that stems from that strong loyalty to your tribe, not the loyalty itself, or as it is in your definition, an advocate or practitioner. I want players from my social group to do well (and that's not advocacy). However, if they are not measuring up I will say it as it is. So how am I tribalistic? Just say your are a tribalist and stop trying to rope everyone in. Where are you from by the way, so we can mark you.

ykalhaji:
Dictionary definition of tribalist

"an advocate or practitioner of strong loyalty to one's own tribe or social group"

So how many of us on a website "Nairaland" supporting strongly the team that is representing "us" at an international organization are not strong advocates of our social group ? Oh in this case your social group is Nigeria.

So if someone decides to go deeper and support a sub unit within the construct of Nigeria, you and the host of others who feel strongly about your Nigerian social group, shame such person to conformity in order not to destroy your own concept of the social group that Nigeria represents.
Being a tribalist is the core of being a human being. We must exist in a social context and unit for survival and sense of being.

Like I said earlier, being a tribalist, stupid and then domineering is the problem, not just being a tribalist.

hmmm

look are this.. now ask yourself again, are we all tribalist?

ykalhaji:
Oga mi, that is syntax. It is qualified and used as a derogatory word just as people that labelled forgiveness as a "tribalist" and how everyone is trying to distance themselves from being labeled a "tribalist" but sir, you mentioned you just saw my definition;
so according to the definition are we not all strong advocates of any social unit we identify with, be it Nigeria or a sub unit group within Nigeria ?

Forgiveness has his beliefs that the NFF is controlled by a section of the country, and that is a big factor in player selection and even coach appointments.. If I'm wrong, he can correct me.

realpoacher:
Brother mi, the answer to your question is not farfetched,.. He wails on it too much thats why... In the case of Every other person here with their favorite player not called up will simply express their reservation or displeasure just once or twice and call it a day. Some few will even sulk on it for days in their privates but after a while, they will shake it off and come back here to start supporting the team wholly.

But NO!..... Forgiveness will keep on wailing till eternity... Wait for it!!... He doesn't just wail alone, he insults everybody else here, he accuse NFF and Rohr of corruption, he berates and insults every other players invited. He takes it personal, it becomes a fight to finish.

All these things he keeps doing over and over again, he doesn't stop... No!.. He doesn't know when to stop!..

Discuss team release,.. No!.. He is wailing.

Discuss formations and strategies about our upcoming match... No!.. He is busy wailing digging up stats left, right, center,... SMH

After match which we probably won... Drop your match analysis and rate every player on how they perform... NO!!... Forgiveness is still busy wailing angry

Its preposterous!!,! His constant wailings and labelings is insulting to our intelligence and sanity. He is not the only one here. This thread is not created for people to come and wail here, let him go somewhere else and wail. angry

When he wails, he labels everyone a tribalist, or a corrupt man if you supports the non invite of his players.

If there is anyone you should caution.. Then the person is sir forgiveness.. Tell him to stop his constant wailings... Underline the word CONSTANT.

He is entitled to express his feelings but when it becomes excessive (like it always does), its no longer an expression rather it becomes wailings. Which means that he is overstepping his boundaries. Such should never be condoned.

I suppose that you are a lawyer. If true, then you should know that we all have rights but so also should we know our limits to such rights when interacting with other people.

His constant wailings is an intrusion into our rights. Therefore he should tone it down else he deserves everything coming his way.

Remember, if there is anyone you must advice, it should be him. He can express his reservations but he shouldn't wail nor insult us because its becoming very childish of him lately.

Thank you

GBAM!!!!
some people have been brought up to believe their culture etc is superior.. that’s the problem. These things start from cradle. Be proud of ur heritage. But to think others are inferior, what makes u different from a racist?

tbaba1234:
Bros, capital lie!!

Tribe has never been a consideration for me on this thread. None of the players in the super eagles is from my tribe. Last time i checked, i am human.

There is nothing wrong in loving your tribe's heritage, language, culture and people.

Tribalism on the other hand is when you consider others as inferior. That is problematic and is definitely not an integral part of being human.

We all have our preferences and even prejudices but that is normal. This is why we interact and learn from each other.

Super Eagles Training Report: Obi Mikel, Etebo & Joel Obi Stand Out In Winning Team

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/60186EtKaro.jpg

Team A that contained Francis Uzoho, John Obi Mikel, Joel Obi, Brian Idowu, Abdullahi Shehu, Chidozie Awaziem, Kenneth Omeruo and Oghenekaro Etebo were the winning side in the practice game in the Super Eagles workout on Friday morning after beating Team C in the final, allnigeriasoccer.com is reporting.
And they won largely due to the outstanding performance of Mikel, Joel Obi and Etebo, the trio had such a fine combination of play.
Another highlight of the game was the class of the former Chelsea midfielder whose years of experience and passing abilities shone like stars in the night.
Also of note was Mikel's ability to move and collect passes in space.
Las Palmas's Oghenekaro Etebo and Torino's Joel Obi pressured the opponents when they were with the ball and displayed their shooting skills.

The Super Eagles will depart Uyo for Port Harcourt on Saturday, May 26 for the friendly match against Democratic Republic of Congo next Monday.

Walahi! If I say I was not impressed, flabbergasted, dumbfounded etc by his performance in that match,I dey lie but since the unit measurement standard has been set here by the two faced double standard fellows, I have to stick to the rules na. grin

However, as Komekn said consistent performance at the top level leagues should determine the factor for invitation into the National team. With that, I concur.

Moreover, after watching the replay of the friendly, I discovered that when Athletico Madrid decided to keep the ball, we were dominated for about 25 minutes but as soon as we scored, they decided to give up possesion in the middle and hit us on counter attacks which eventually worked for them.

It was not as the result of our dominance in the midfield but the tactics Athletico Madrid used made us florished in the midfield.

Good point.

All sides please exercise restraint.

Those calling forgiveness tribalist, how many times have they canvassed for a player that is not of their tribe, or at least canvassed for a Yoruba player, or praised a Yoruba player that performs well on national duty? Should we ask you to dig out your posts where you have? Please it's unnecessary. I have asked forgiveness a couple times now to drop the Kayode thing becuase if he keeps on doing that it will distract us from cheering the SE in Russia (which should be our focus now). A number of us here want to keep updating the thread with rich content. We are the reason why there are many on ghost mode. People want to feed off from our discussions and analysis, or at least they want to be informed.

When Russia starts proper we will be arguing about the performance of our players, not about the players that did not make the list in the first place. Let's move with the topic at hand. Can we stay with the camp updates as much as we can? This is the only reason why I've begged forgiveness to drop the kayode talk. That talk was appropriate when the list was about to be named or during the qualifiers. I know for sure that there are many tribalists on this thread. If we really want to know we can check their posts on other threads. But I don't care what you do in your kitchen, as long as you don't bring your kitchen knife to the public place. The Super Eagles is representing Nigeria an no particular section of the country. We have top administrators from different sections of the country in the NFF. I am first a Nigerian, before an Urhobo from Delta State. I was the first to say Etebo rode on that Algerian making him a beast of burden, and that he performed poorly that day. I have criticised Omeruo several times. I've called for Efe Ambrose, and later turned my back on him in my discussions. Just recently I also said Ejaria won't have pulled what Nwakali pulled off against Atleti. Josh "Tega" Onomah is also of my tribe. I've never canvassed for him. I've hardly called for Championship players except Aina. Does this mean I'm not proud of where I come from? nada.. I love my people to death.. but I'm first a Nigerian. It's only this mentality that can move this country forward. I appreciate our diversity and I usually call people out, when they seem not to do so. We are intelligent people here, we can memorize big grammar and terminologies. Same way I know we can spell the name of our players. If you are going to call my name in real life, you better have the interest to learn how to pronounce it just as you would expect me to know your name.

So friends please.. Let's focus on the topic at hand.. We will have side talks here and there.. but tribalistic stuff and political stuffs are very touchy subjects that will keep us divided at least on this thread. Let's unitedly stand behind our beloved Super Eagles, not saying we cannot disagree to agree . However, if you are not truly a fan please take a chill pill.

edi287:
I don't know who the admin is, but it's about time we talked about this nonsense.
I don't always agree with Forgiveness - Infact I doubt there is anyone who agrees a 100 percent with others say on here, but this "tribalist" bullshit has gone on long enough. It makes it look like this thread is mostly an "igbo thread" which is bullshit seeing that I'm igbo myself.
How many times have we had someone get called a tribalist for insisting Nwakali gets invited to the SE? But forgiveness or even Komekn mention Sone Aluko, Obafemi Martins, etc they'll get called tribalist and we'll just sweep it under the carpet like it's not a big deal??
If not, how would that pea brained mofo just come in all of a sudden and vehemently state Forgiveness is a tribalist and I'm Yoruba because I'm defending him?? The clown should've been blocked the moment he said that ish.
Enough is enough. I will insult his ancestors until either or both of us are banned.

Blow-By-Blow Account Of Super Eagles Training Session On Friday MorningTwenty nine of the thirty players invited to the Super Eagles World Cup training camp were sighted at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium during Friday morning's workout, with Victor Moses the only absentee, allnigeriasoccer.com is reporting.

As usual, training started past ten, the players were made to do some jogging, stretches, aerobics and ball work at the start of the session.

Moses Simon and Wilfred Ndidi did their individual training with two coaches on the sidelines while the remaining 27 players worked with the ball, including Odion Ighalo and William Troost-Ekong.

The Leicester City midfielder has still not been cleared by the medical team to resume full training, rather he is being given special training to help him recover fully.

Today, the players were divided into three groups, not the two groups used on Wednesday and Thursday.

At 1125 hours, the practice game started with three quarters of one half of the pitch used.

Training came to an end at 1210 hours.
