Leaders Lobi Stars extended their unbeaten streak in the Nigeria Professional Football League to five games after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars in their match day 19 encounter in Akure on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Makurdi club’s lead at the top of the table has however been reduced from six to four points.

Sunshine Stars missed the chance to score the game’s opening goal when Sikiru Alimi missed from the penalty spot five minutes after the break.

Samad Kadiri who was with Sunshine Stars last season shocked the hosts by scoring the opener a minute before regulation time.
The Owena Waves rallied back and got the leveller two minutes into stoppage time through Jide Fatokun.

Niger Tornadoes moved into the second position following a 1-0 win against MFM at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.

Abubakar Nadabo scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot after 13 minutes.
The Minna club are now unbeaten in their last nine league games.

In Calabar, Enyimba and Akwa United battled to a 0-0 draw.

Enyimba finished the game with 10 men after their Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda was sent off a minute before the break for an off the ball incident with Akwa United’s Ifeanyi Ede.

Both teams had a goal disallowed for handball in the game.

The Peoples Elephant extended their unbeaten run to six games.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars beat Heartland 2-0 with NPFL top scorer Junior Lokosa grabbing both goals for his side.

Lokosa has now scored 16 league goals this seaon and is now inching closer to breaking the 23-goal mark set by Mfon Udoh in the 2013/2014 season.

Enugu Rangers enjoyed a comfortable evening at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, handing Wikki Tourists a 3-0 defeat.

Godwin Aguda, Christian Madu and Kelvin Itoya got the Flying Antelopes’ goals in the game.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s men are now unbeaten in six games against Wikki Tourists.

Champions Plateau United earned a vital 1-0 win against Katsina United at the New Jos Stadium.

Emmanuel Odafe netted the winning goal in the 56th minute.

El-Kanemi Warriors boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win against Nasarawa United with Antonio Desousa and Micheal Ohanu scoring the goals.

In another match day 19 encounter, Abia Warriors edged out Rivers United 2-1 in Umuahia.

Arinze Nwangwu put the hosts ahead in the 38th minute, while Ndifreke Effiong added the second three minutes after the break, his seventh goal of the campaign.

Malachy Ohawume reduced the deficit for Rivers United in the 63rd minute.

Go Round FC failed to ease their relegation worries as they were held to a 0-0 draw by FC IfeanyiUbah at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium, Omoku.

Yobe Desert Stars were also held to a 0-0 draw by Kwara United in Damaturu.

All 3 will participate as hosts. There are rules as to which countries in the other football associations get the remaining 5 slots. Also there is a likelihood that one of the 3 hosts will also qualify as CONCACAF gold cup champs

Let me add that both Japan and Korea played in the 2001 edition. Korea qualified as co-hosts. Japan qualifid as AFC champs/co-hosts. Or ther might just be a play off among the hosts.

Whoscored ratings is purely stats based. For example, I saw Iwobi’s rating move up from 6.3 to 6.4 when he made a successful tackle. I think different points are added based on the type of positive action by the player, and points are deducted based on the type of negative action. A goal for example would fetch a player more points compared to an assist.

This is common practice in Africa. Almost every club and country have at one time paid some gratifications to match officials to influence games. Football is not so pure as some people will think.

The CAF Referees Committee on 28 April 2018, has confirmed the recommendation of the CAF Disciplinary Board to ban Nigeria referee Joseph Ogabor from any official mission for one year for attempted match manipulation with respect to the Total CAF Confederation Cup 1/16th round first leg between Plateau United (Nigeria) and USM Alger (Algeria) played on 7 April 2018 in Lagos.

We are talking relative consistency. Let’s take consistency for what the word really is. Ighalo has been consistent lately. We want that to continue into the mundial proper. Consistency in goal scoring is what makes strikers relevant.

Fake Allegations Against Gent Moses Simon Could Land Journalist In Prison – Rohr Warns

Prison sentence will likely be the case for an online publication in Nigeria if they don’t desist from publishing fake stories against the person of Super Eagles Forward Moses Simon.

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr made this known while voicing out his unhappiness about a particular online portal in Nigeria, which has been laying fake allegations on the Gent forward.

Rohr who was also indicted by same publication as the brain behind the decision of Simon to dump his long term agent Tony Harris for D-W Sports Management laughed off the speculations as wide off the mark.

The Franco-German coach of the Super Eagles warned the website to be careful because it’s very possible that a lawyer will one day instigate a case that could see them end on Prison.

“I’m 45 years now in professional football, why should I start it now? These people must be very careful, saying such bad things about our players, especially about Moses Simon; about his private life, very bad allegations. They have to be careful because one day a lawyer will come and they will finish in prison,” Rohr stated.

It’s not about age, it’s about excellence at every point in time and every player have to show consistemtly that they deserve their place on the pitch or bench.. same rules will also apply to any DESERVING young player who is given a chance to fight for a short. If he can’t cut it, he gets drop. There are exceptional younger players also.. or is SE selection seniority based? Experience is great but you have to demonstrate that your experience makes u better than a said younger player on the field of play.. hopefully when the WC is over we will start to build a team with more depth. It will actually pay us better in the long run.

But I agree with you, a player should not be said to be too old if he is still showing he got it and is able to demonstrate that he is still better than the younger players. Our major problem really has been our inconsistency with coaches over the years, and that stems from our desire for quick results as if we were a country blessed with obvious abundant talents. We are not Brazil. We should be humble with the right expectations especially considering the state of our domestic league. So Nigerians, get a good coach and be patient for once.

We easily call them tired old legs and be in a haste to push them out so as to bring in new kids and the cycle continues.And We keep trying to build endlessly.

This current team is young and growing in experience but when they have started gathering the experience we want to throw them out and start chasing some new kids all over again.

And that’s our own doing. If you don’t find it, you don’t have it.

Our NPFL teams do not have established youth structures. Qualified Coaching is non-existent.

Certain without a proof. All I’m saying is we can’t keep speaking about our potential or whatwould have been. We seem to take pride in stuffs like that. It would never help us. Over 200 million people so what. If we can’t find or develop them then they never existed.
