Wetin concern me. IF dem like dem fit die put.. Last last the club go send letter or observe minutes of silence for their head. What a legacy!!!
blueto:
they have been obdurate in that aspect. They said that they prefer the ”entertaining” and “mouthwatering” football from european clubs. Some say they are gutted by the “horrendous” performances of the super eagles in time past so they don't want anymore perturbations. I have resorted to lecturing them on the renaissance of the team, especially with this impressively talented, but it appears that they still pertinaciously maintain their fantasy for offshore clubs. I believe that if super eagles keeps getting the wins and perform well at the world cup, then some of them may reconsider.

That's what I'm saying.. Zambia beating Algeria again is not impossible. Which is why I like to think mathematically. I really want us to experiment with the last two games. If we beat Cameroon again and Zambia beats Algeria again, Zambia will have 7 points. And can still qualify mathematically. Like I said let's get this thing done on Monday. We need Algeria to pull at least a draw, then we are in Russia.

Icon4s:
We are still 5points clear.
Yes we need to beat Cameroon just in case Zambia beats Algeria again. If Algeria wins and we lose to Cameroon we are still 4points clear of our nearest rivals with 2 games to go.

We have just done ourselves the mighty favor by beating Cameroon.

If we beat Cameroon and Algeria beats Zambia we have qualified with 2 games to spare.

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:04pm On Sep 02, 2017
Let's say amen to that lol
TheSuperNerd:
At this rate we should be dominating (and hopefully we will ) the so called "small boys" and beating them into perfect submission without even having to produce a grand performance as we did yesterday.

There are teams we should not enter gear 2 or 3 for. Gear one at Its very best should beat them silly. I want the Super Eagles to have that wickedly ruthless mentality. And hopefully we are getting there with time. Rohr is German afterall... and also has french links and idiosyncrasies... Germans are merciless and disciplined to the last minute of a game. The Super Eagles are gradually trying to evolve into such.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 12:49pm On Sep 02, 2017
Let's also play the so called small boys with the same vigor and intensity
TheSuperNerd:
Lemme answer that thought... lol

Big No! this was not the same team South Africa defeated. Chikena. wink

And nope.... lolll Venue is still Nest of Champions.... we didn't tell Broos that we meant nest of where Champions are slayed too.

I keep harping on an important fact in football history... Nigeria in recent years have hardly been floored by the African champs in very important and high profile games.

In 2004 Afcon quarters... Cameroon were defending champs but we beat them 2-1 and ended their golden era then.

In 2006 Afcon quarters.... Tunisia were defending champs but we knocked them out and went on to the semis.

In 2013 Group stage game... We drew defending champs, Zambia 1-1 and went on to beat the champions of the next edition and then Africa's best team, CIV 2-1 in the quarters

In 2017 WCQ.... we know the story. History is what it is though and it is actually Match day form and "who wants it bad on the day enough" that really matters... but I love to see patterns in history sometimes.... history shows Nigeria almost always rises in the big games. Hope we can keep up this new found momentum and fire of confidence..... we have a fine team on our hands but we gotta maximise our potentials fully. Really hope we can... Hope Rohr and his crew keep up the good work.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 12:25pm On Sep 02, 2017
Isn't it too early for Rohr to be revealing our strategy against them. Let Boos and co try to figure it out. Abi are we going to use a different strategy to beat them in Cameroon oh. Abeg make dem no play. We want 3 points in Yaonde
blueto:
I am glad that the Nigerian team now has a coach that sees the importance of set-pieces and from the his matches so far, Nigeria has rarely conceded from set-pieces. Defending set-pieces was a major problem for Nigeria especially in the 2014 world cup. Nigeria conceded two goals from Argentina via set-pieces and conceded the first and demoralizing goal from France via set-pieces too from Pogba's header. The importance of scoring with set-pieces and being good at defending against it should never be undermined again. Set-pieces can keep a team in a tourney or send them parking.

blueto:
No o, that one na name of a device na, abeg o grin

I think the Blueto inspiration came from being a Chelsea fan as at then, so I coined it to suit my affinity with the club. But now that I don't support offshore football clubs anymore, I would love to change the moniker if I had the option on Nairaland.

They will play to regain lost pride. But yesterday we just devised a new trick in this match up that could mean they would remain our baby for a long time to come.

Rohr set up his team to play counter attack football at home. That is very interesting. Cameroon will attack us in Yaounde, similar tactics will serve us well.

Hopefully Rohr is thinking of making the Goalkeeper trainer permanent on the job. We need his expertise. Enjoyed watching him celebrating one of the goals. I doff my heart to him.

Mathematically if Zambia and Algeria play draw tomorrow and we beat Cameroon in Yaonde we would qualify for the WC, because both Zambia and Algeria would have two points and the result of their reverse fixture will be irrelevant. We will have a maximum of 12 points. The second placed team will have possibly at most 5 points if either win their reverse fixture. That would mean we could do lots of experimenting with our last two games.

Not forgetting he manned the post for the NPFL all stars team that played various clubs in Spain. That was valuable experience.. But hey nobody stopped to give the new GK trainer kudos.
TheSuperNerd:
Ikechukwu Ezenwa:

With a game high 16 recoveries... his calm and composure between the sticks and on the couple of occasions he was called upon to challenge for an aerial ball and stop a strike from Anguissa and a "twistingly" curling effort from Fai made Ezenwa have a WC qualifying debut to remember.

His confidence and Composure were his biggest selling point today. He did have a funny moment when he wanted to act Manuel Neuer... lolll... he fooled the Camerounian no.9 striker Aboubakar (In Jersey no.10) and then kicked the ball long and upfield... it was a risk... a risk he was happy and confident enough to take.

Now I am not saying he is the best but I certainly preferred his calm and confidence and handling of aerial duels compared to the Experienced but shaky Akpeyi.... Ezenwa did so well. And he can only get better.

He has come a long way from being first choice of that Enterprising young Ocean Boys FC team that conquered Nigeria in 2008.. a team that had Blessing Okardi. Ezenwa can only get better like fine wine... smiley

Well done Super Eagle Ezenwa.... smiley

Only my wishful thinking. Sometimes you have to catch them young even for our U17 teams
Icon4s:
There is no way we are going to cap all the foreign born. We only need those who will add value to the team, those who are better than the crop we have already.

I think it's okay to cap all the foreign-borns "cappable" . Yet Should be no guarantee they will start or make our bench eventually.
Icon4s:
Let him still develop more then. We need players who can face both African and European oppositions.

The way that boy was hyped here. You would think he will just walk into the starting 11.

I hope so. U know say gold matter for Olympics is not new to us. Besides Cameroon did it too. You have to think something before you can become it.

I don't care if we miss AFCON for eternity. I will sacrifice that for one WC crown.
TheSuperNerd:
Don't worry Sir Joebie... I understand what you mean. But relax... Mikel was even being modest with his choice of words.

Ofcos he aspires to something greater. Remember how passionately he took the Olympics and wanted Gold by all means and played Hus heart out. That was an international competition.

By saying what he says about beating any team in Africa... he is only being modest and hiding hia truest deepest intent...

Mikel targets The World stage. He knows this team can compete with the best in the world if we can just keep growing strongly and maintaining the right flow of growth and understanding as a team.

Let me say this, and I hope u guys don't misunderstand me. I'm quite uncomfortable with Mikel saying if we keep playing like this we can beat any team in Africa. I think that he is bringing in his personality here -- settling for a decent height of achievement. I'm hoping he is aiming higher in his mind in respect to leading the team but just trying to sound humble. We need to start thinking we can win the World Cup. That should be our mindset, though we need not be arrogant about it. And that should be our mindset even outside football.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:08pm On Sep 01, 2017
Vic Mo was my MOTM even before the start of the 2nd half. I'm sure every media ratings will give him the highest
Icon79:
Mikel definitely provided stability and experience to the team. I won't mind seeing him in the number 10 role for the Super Eagles. He has definitely earned it. My men of the match today:

Leon Balogun
Victor Moses
John Obi Mikel
Take your pick.

And let me be for the first to predict that Leon Balogun is a future Super Eagles captain. Go write it down!

Well maybe.. A bench consist of more than 3 players though.
Humility017:
yeah...the players on the bench were as good as those on the pitch
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:01pm On Sep 01, 2017
You just read my mind. But Toru could rise to our first choice LB in no time just as there was talk of Ola starting today but for the delay..

I think Agu is good for that solid bench (if not ahead of Onazi)

Iheanacho is good as a super sub (if not a starter)

The rest players in bench still have a lot to prove that they are as good as our starters

TheSuperNerd:
This right here is the next line of our discussions.... we should focus on sound and quality Super Backups as solid as our first XI. Starting with Mikel's position... then ofcos.. we can talk RB and LB...

Jordan Torunarigha is being benched at Hertha Berlin by a young German called Plattenhardt who featured at the FIFA condeds cup for the Triumphant German machines led By Draxler... that guy is Germany's future in the left back position...

Although Torunarigha can also play CB... but LB is his major.

We should have our eyes on him as Echiejile's deputy and successor... thank God we have Ola Aina in the bag for our RB spot with Ebuehi to challenge also... with utility Shehu still providing his experienced cover...

More talks on this as days turn into weeks... smiley

I agree with the rating
femianski:
player ratings
Victor Moses put up an impressive display for the Super Eagles in the big win.
The Super Eagles ran riot against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 4-0 in their World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
Goals from Odion Ighalo, John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho were enough to help the three-time African champions take a step closer to the Russia 2018 World Cup.
But how did the players fare in the game?
We rate the Nigeria players and how they performed.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa
Did his confidence a world of good with a confident showing. He didn’t display any nerves as calmly collected his balls all through the game, keeping a clean sheet in the process. 7
Shehu Abdullahi
He started the game slowly, but grew into it. He looked far better in the second half, but will still need to improve if he is to stake a real claim to the position in the long term. 6
Elderson Echiejile
Like Shehu, had a slow start but got better as Nigeria improved. Still not the best left back, but was solid enough to hold his own. 6
Troost Ekong
His best always shows whenever he is paired along with Leon Balogun. Showed great composure to neutralize Vincent Aboubakar. 7
Leon Balogun
He is surely the Super Eagles’ Dean of Defence. He marshalled the defence so well, and made key and timely interceptions. He is currently Nigeria’s best defender. 8
Ogenyi Onazi
Looked uncomfortable all through, but provided the assist for Iheanacho’s goal. A decent shift overall. 6
Wilfred Ndidi
The better of the two holding midfielders. Made impressive forays into the attack, and won tackles neatly. He is fast growing into an important player for the team. 7
John Obi Mikel
Captain fantastic! He showed what the Super Eagles missed in his absence against South Africa. On his return to the team, he contributed an assist and a goal. Talk about leading by example. 8
Victor Moses
Man of the match. He tormented the Cameroonians so much that they looked so scared to get close to him. Capped it with a beautiful goal. And he almost got a second before he was replaced. 9
Moses Simon
A much improved performance by the winger, and showed great maturity on the ball unlike in previous games. 7
Odion Ighalo
What a way to announce his return to the Super Eagles. Much maligned for failing to deliver the goods for the national team, the 28-year showed his worth with a well taken goal in the big win. 7
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:57pm On Sep 01, 2017
Maybe that
TheGoodJoe:
Not Keshi. The NFF choosing to sack his Tactician, Sylvanus Okpala after the AFCON win really affected the team and caused a change in strategic approach.
