Lol in that 34-match run how many were draws against minnows? Great record indeed. And yes we don't take non WC related matches seriously.

Ok let's go on and draw our remaining 2 Ames and keep that fine record in tact.

safarigirl:
we played SA during world cup qualifiers? Or do you not know that our 34-game unbeaten is in WCQ?

And no. Competitive match no be competitive match, AFCON is trash compared to the World Cup
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 11:08pm On Sep 05, 2017
No, we need a win. But two draws draws would have been enough had we beaten Cameroon yesterday
A draw could still be enough, but not mathematically.

Algeria are useless but our job has not changed..

Get at least a draw in Uyo.

It changes two things.

1. Cameroon no go ever open moth where we dey.

2. Zambia belief no go too high. Remember they also held Cameroon away. Anyway football no be maths.

3. like I've already stated it would mean a new era in how we approach our games. For now, we still like to settle for the average when we an be excellent. Na so we be.

freshest4live:
Oga even if we had won yesterday, it changes almost nothing.

Of course I'm hopeful. Some people dey count draw draw soup we chop when we played against minnows. Unbeaten my ass. If u draw a small team it's a loss o. Especially when u see them celebrating. We are Nigeria. We need to set higher standards. We had a chance yesterday, if we took it I would have declared a new era and menarality in our football. It's not over yet. We have the biggest chance but we are playing a team with very big belief. We will have to take that game like a final an never be complacent in our preps.

Oasis007:

I'm 100% confident that Zambians will be humiliated in Uyo next Month (by God's willing). Chill Bro!

Not true.

freshest4live:
SA game was not a world cup qualifier. Nigeria would qualify with a draw in Uyo.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:35pm On Sep 05, 2017
Thank you my brother. And approach all games the same way, big or small opponents

Taliban:
Yeah we definitely had confidence when we faced SA a couple of months back.

The issue is there must be no room for complacency, we must go all guns blazing and approach the Chipolopolo the same way we dealth with Algeria and Cameroun. But if we play with the mindset of we are there, anything can happen o
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:34pm On Sep 05, 2017
Oga anything can happen. Our chances is still the highest. But im a logical person. we have not qualified until we beat them. Let it happen then I will go celebrate..

Good! So your definition is the position they feel more at home playing in. What if they had a teammate who the coach sees as better in that said position? That's where my points come in.
AIG07:
good points. But it doesn't change the fact that players have 'natural' positions. Most especially players from Africa. We don't teach football in africa as you'll have in europe we play and grow into it.

Most players who have played two or more positions will tell you that they prefer one to the other simply because they feel at home playing in such a position...
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:04pm On Sep 05, 2017
Your Ronaldo example even supports my position. Ronaldo can play as an 11. Seen him cut in from there to score.. Seen him make crosses also during match time.

Ndidi started out and excelled as a CB. Was converted to an LB at first at Genk before he was moved to DM.. And this has increased his value..

Victor Moses probably will be on loan today if not that he showed that he could be an al round player. Conte did not just experiment but he saw it Moses. Today that decision has not only made him indispensable player at Chelsea, but has made him a better player for SE. Something many of us fail to realize is that regular game time and the overload of roles Moses has at Chelsea has made playing as a winger a piece of cake -- reason for his ever flowing energy.

As regards changing player positions, club coaches make those decisions for several reasons, some of which are:

1. The player deminstrating dynamism in the field of play.

2. The competition they face from their teammates for a specific position or several positions

3. The several positions thier teammates can play.

4. The ineffective of a certain player who had a dedicated role.

5. The dynamism in modern football as seen during match time, players hardly play one role these days.

Applying this to the case of Mikel, Mou may have seen his other strengths. At that point in time it could be he faced stiff competition in the AM role, or it could be other midfielders could not adapt to the makalele role like Mikel could, leaving Mou to that option, else Mikel would have been forced to sit it out in bench until he had his chance to outwit his contenders at the AM. Or who knows may have sought greener pastures at another club. Mou may have helped his career after all. We can never tell what could have happened. Mikel is what he is today because of his versatility. And we can use that to our advantage sometimes.

Modified
Consider Balogun's darting runs yesterday against Cameroon. Situations like that will make u realize there is more to a player than a specific position. Believe I had seen that potential in Moses long before he was converted to a full back.

Mujtahida:
Some players have that dynamism, some don't. Doesn't mean players don't have their strong playing positions. And it doesn't mean that they are worse for it. Why you no go play Ronaldo as a left winger?

I understand that modern football requires that dynamism but it should be done when the players are young. And that's the advantage European players coming out of academies have. Our players learn their stuff themselves and then when they've been wired to play one way, they go abroad and the coaches begin to improvise on them. Most plants can grow and thrive when transplanted when they are still tender but most will wither and die if done when they are a bit grown. That some survive is no basis for applauding such late transplantation.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 5:52pm On Sep 05, 2017
Lol shehu's natural position is RB? My friend improvising is part of football especially in modern times. And it has helped many player's careers.

Can u tell me what is Ndidi's natural position?
How about Etebo? Iheanacho, Victor Moses? I can keep naming..

Mujtahida:
Meaning of natural position? Leave definition for academics. When you see a player in his natural position you will know.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 5:40pm On Sep 05, 2017
So many players we see today hve faded away because they were not played in their "natural position" lol.

What's even the meaning of natural position?

Mujtahida:
They will just arbitrarily change the players from their natural position to improvised mechanical positions and our national team becomes the loser for it and even the players too. Look at what Mourinho did to Mikel. Truly it is because that guy has so much ball in him that made him to flower somewhat as a DM. Only God knows what we would have had in our hands had Mourinho allowed Mikel to bloom in his natural position as a creative midfielder. In 2005 Mikel was nothing but a pure thoroughbred before Mourinho twisted him. A less talented and determined player would have wilted and faded away.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:58pm On Sep 05, 2017
Performance will take Shehu to Russia. Musa may not go or at most continue his bench warming there
AIG07:
SPOT ON. Barring any unforseen circumstances, 80-90% of the above listed names will make the cut.

We now have a strong starting 11 minus Echiejile.

Considering his long injury lay off and the star-studded team, he did ok. He came on in the EPL a couple times I think and was given high marks

he was also listed last season but how matches did he play?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:18pm On Sep 05, 2017

I still wonder why he refused to go on loan
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:13pm On Sep 05, 2017
That's the beauty of dynamism.

AIG07:
I'm loving it with the way the team is having abundant wingers and fullbacks who can play on both sides.

Did anyone notice that our only goal came when Simon and Victor swap sides? The cameroonians became so confused that they were caught unexpected and out of position.

Ejaria Trains With Liverpool First Team Pre-Manchester City
Liverpool continued their preparations for the Premier League clash with Manchester City at City of Manchester Stadium, with a training session held at Melwood on Monday morning.

Based on the photos published by the official website of the Reds, former Nigeria U17 trainee Ovie Ejaria may be drafted into the first team by manager Jurgen Klopp for the visit to M11 3FF, having trained with the squad.

Golden Ball winner of the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup Dominic Solanke is away on international duty with the England U21s who are preparing to face Latvia on Tuesday, and wasn't involved in the session.

Ejaria has not made Liverpool's match day squad for their first five competitive fixtures this season, but it is thought he is still in the plans of Klopp as the transfer window closed for business last week and he remained at Anfield.

The 19-year-old has appeared twice for the U23 squad in Premier League 2, notching an assist against Sunderland on August 20.

Exactly.. And never do we have to sub Mikel out in other to hold on to our lead. Just switch him to a DMF. Our players can be that dynamic
AIG07:
beautiful suggestion. This will afford us to create more chances and cut open defences with a two edge sword with Mikel thumping the long balls for counter attacks why Iwobi brings in those sleeky decisive defence splitting passes. This will be pure football!

Very good point. I see Mikel more as a versatile midfielder, than a stand out AM. For AM we have very good options also . I remember Siasia stressing we should rather use Iwobi there. In my estimation, Iwobi will become a legend

Well but this will be Nwakali's first season in the Eredivisie. I mean he just got loaned to VVV Venlo. Do you really feel his exploit in their second tier wasn't noticed. How did u verify that?

komekn:
I am in agreement with you.

Nwakali on this thread is being considered on past glories but glories in youth football. He has spent a season at low rated Dutch club. If he was making waves he would be well known in the Eredivisie but he is not. Currently he doesn't merit a call up. The SE is not for boys but those who have proven themselves worthy.

It's quite obvious that we do not have a replacement for Mikel. I really would have liked to see Ogu in that midfield to see what he can do, particularly in the latter stages of today's game. His composure and calmness could possibly have calmed down matters for us opposed to the frantic play we adopted towards the end.

I actually would consider Sone Aluko for that role as a quality option.
