It's not a sin to park the bus The problem is we could have done it better. We were playing away, and we needed at least a point. We had already prooved that Cameroon was our baby in the first tie. The only thing we needed to prove is that we could beat them again in their own backyard to confirm our dominance. And it's totally fine to that parking the bus.
TheGoodJoe:
I have never in my life watched Nigeria play such abominable football parking before. Never ever. Until Cameroon turned to Barcelona for us.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:29pm On Sep 04, 2017
Except the bullying we suffered at the left back, we played an excellent game today.

Personally I would choke up the midfield and lunch long passes to the attack every now and then.
Ezenwa has done the necessary job. But is he our 1st choice? No. I can't even say it's Enyeama either. We will need to find the answer soon.

It's time to go for Torunarigha since the World Cup ticket is almost in the bag.

Shehu was great as RB

Vic Mo can play almost anywhere on that pitch. Why is everyone forgetting that he hit the bar... He can lunch fast attack from anywhere. His is not the kind of player that can be tamed. Why is no one seeing that he can play as AM?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:17pm On Sep 04, 2017
Exactly what I was saying. Replace Exhiejile with Aina. Choke up the midfield. I saw Aina in bench. He was the first from left before the start of the match
AIG07:
another beautiful one over there. Cameroon ain't that strong in the middle. I think I pointed this out during the confed cup. But I was so amazed they won the central midfield battle.

Switching to a 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 formation would have balance things up. But after the goal he chose 4-3-3 with tiring wide men(the two moses). It came to a time I didn't even see S.Moses on the pitch-I even taught he had been sub.

Eh wait was Aina on the bench? Cos me no see am.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:50pm On Sep 04, 2017
Mathematically they could still qualify if they beat Algeria, hold us to a draw and beat Cameroon, thy hoping that we lose our final match to Algeria. Let me just say if Zambia fails to beat Algeria tomorrow, we would need just one more point from the last two games to qualify.

Icon79:
Folks, enough of all these permutations. Here's your SIMPLE MATH: Nigeria now need just one point against Zambia in Uyo in October to qualify for #Russia2018.

So get all those champagne bottles chilled for the October 7th cracker at Uyo.

I agree 100% with what you just said

Modified
In fact let me say you are very much on point. I had to think over all you said again
goldfish80:
This is a very tough game to analyse to be honest.
I felt the team played a very tactical game, following a well laid out plan from the bench. They played like a team who was set up not to loose. The first 20 minutes was to avoid conceeding and try to keep the Camerounians at bay, the next phase of the game was to excert pressure on their defence. Solid game management I must say based on the circumstance we found our selves needing just a Point from the encounter.

We got a goal and waited for the Camerounians to react so we can get the ball behind their defence with our pacey strikers when they committed players forward. To execute this sort of game plan required zero margin for errors but unfortunately, we conceeded a penalty.

On the part of the Camerounians, they frustrated our engine room (Mikel) by allowing him no room to dictate the tempo of the game. They tried to cut off passing lanes from the defence to the midfield as much as possible which resulted in the Super Eagles launching balls up front.

I will rate Victor Moses, Balogun, Alhaji Shehu and Odion as our best performers. All the same, I would have bitten off the fingers of anyone who offered me 4points out available 6 against Cameroon when the seeding was made. Not a bad result at all.

Best Zambia and qualify with a game to spare. This was our wish when the seeding was made. We are well on course.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie:
It was perfect.. Or how many goals do we have to score away for you to agree we were executing the plan perfectly -- answer, one. We did just that, and we could have won this. Sometimes counter attacks are made cutting of the midfield by lunching long balls to the artackers.. I know we were capable I the win. Personally I would have subbed uwa for Aina. Switch Moses to AM after replacing Mikel -- yes I said so. Bring in Ogu instead of Mikel for more cover. In other words adopt a more defensive approach and choke up the midfield, while fixing our LB. like I said before, Shehu have found a home in RB. If anything, we were in danger of losing this game had the game been longer.

As for Ezenwa, I'm happy he was exposed in this game. It will be a blessing in disguise.

Oasis007:
Nah! It wasn't perfect. The Combo of Ekong and Balogun made it look like. The Midfield lost the Battle, couldn't win second Balls too.

The Team was set to hit the Cameroonians on Counter, did we succeed?! Poor touches and passes in Midfield didn't make it work.

BTW..... I really don't wish to argue on Team Performance rather to appreciate them all!
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:11pm On Sep 04, 2017
Playing to the game plan is perfectly.. We were meant to hit them on the counter and soak up the pressure
Oasis007:
Perfectly?! No! Nothing is perfect with the Performance, rather average. Also we shouldn't nail Ezenwa for the Penalty conceded, rather we should thank God that the Ref wasn't biased and decided to overlook some reckless Challenges that would have resulted in Pks.

We should be happy we get a Point out of the Match. It worth celebrating! Ezenwa is ready, he has proven it and if the Coaches trust him, he earned it.

Thank you.. Besides we were playing perfectly even after Mikel was subbed out in the previous match. I didn't even think Mikel was one of our top performers today. But glad I'm now confident that we will not be too comfortable with Ezenwa as our first choice
tbaba1234:
There was no problem.. The team was playing perfectly before the mistake by Ezenwa.

The result will still be 4-0.

I thought Mikel failed in one of our build ups to a good counter attack opportunity. He needs to raise his game after the break

Disjointed game so far. Balogun, Moses and Ighalo have been our best players. We need to get control back at mid.

Exactly.. abi no be the same team he wan use take revenge today. If he like make he use the same excuse after 90 mins or beg FIFA say dey wan replay the matches
TheSuperNerd:
Yeah.... but what exactly is the difference? I rate Ngadeu above Matip... Matip is poor aerially for one so tall sef... and he is not physical enough.. he is more technical.

Onana ran away....

Nkoulou was part of the Afcon team... but was benched by teiku and Ngadeu...

Chedjou is a good df too but to bench Teiku and Ngadeu?? I don't think so... he was even there when they got trashed 3-0 in Belgium two years ago... no big deal...

Stephanie Mbia... ehen.. he was also taken out in that 3-0 whitewash...

Clinton Njie... was injured but is also benched by Bassogog...

I can go on and on... Cameroun brought their best...

Maybe he is referring to the boys that should have been called up before the AFCON. But he just forgot this same team won the AFCON and had the luxury of playing so many games together. This is the best team they can assemble at the moment. Certainly not the best in Africa. Africa deserves better. Now we know who the true champs is
TheSuperNerd:
Yeah.... but that man ehn....

I think Ondoa's cousin Andre Onana of Ajax foresaw this which is he jejely rejected invitation for the game.... Broos ehn.... his lie na wa ....

After the Super Eagles emphatic 4-0 victory over the indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Friday in the race for Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Brian Mwila whose brace propelled Zambia to a 3-1 victory against Algeria in Lusaka is a target man alongside Seydou Doumbia of Ivory Coast who also scored twice against Gabon.

Serge Aurier who just joined English premier league club Tottenham Hotspur is also in the defence alongside Mehdi Benatia whose national team Morocco thrashed Mali 6-0.

Once again,Caf best goalkeeper and Caf best African based player Denis Onyango got rewarded for keeping a Cleansheet against Mo Salah led Egypt in a 1-0 victory for Uganda.

CAF Best Eleven Players For Match Day Three

Denis Onyango ; Leon Balogun, Mehdi Benatia, Serge Aurier; Hakim Ziyech, Ghailene Chaalali , Nuno Rocha, Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Moses; Seydou Doumbia and Brian Nwila.
