haha.... if we are all scared of getting hurt and our security outfit is not ready to take up the real challenge then we will keep getting scorelines like this influenced by the home team. Let me see what led to those Gombe goals before I laugh again. BascoVanVeli: what's the joke about? Sounds like a nice game to me, the away team scored with the last kick of the ball and no one got hurt. |

No! we don't cry. We simply move on. Do you personally have a big ego? Rejection is a part of life. Some of these players never had their Nigerian parent in their lives while growing up. Some of them will never feel Nigerian unless you give them a course to. Showing interest in them is a first step. They may take interest and start to look at Nigeria's football history, that's if their parents never played an active role in this regard while they were growing up. Welcoming them to the SE family is another. We have to treat situations differently. We can't always apply a general rule. So do you just dock just because you are scared of rejection, and miss a chance to land a player that would have represented Nigeria? Sir, following your rule, we will not have the likes of Ola Aina in our fold now. I can still mention some others that were courted before they agreed. Icon4s: What if you approach them and they are still not interested? That is what I am talking about.
Look at Gabby Agbonlahon, Nedum Onuoha, Sydney Sam, Patrick Owomoyela, Ugochukwu Ehiogu, . If they chose their country of birth what do we do? Continue to cry? |

Thank you. We need to improve football in the grassroots and our domestic league. But we also need to make provision for special talents groomed abroad. Winning them over is a win for us. If i'm getting Icon4s clearly, he is saying these special players in question need to first show the interest. Oga i no agree for that one oh. One thing I will never subscribe to is that there is only one way you should catch a fish in the midst of many ways. The idea of patriotism here is not realistic since many of these lads have never even visited Nigeria. Let's be realistic, we will need to do some convincing in some cases. Humility017: you're right... that's why I will only support an ambitious indigenous coach...the reason why we're seeing this invitation for the SE games now is because rohr is an ambitious coach....and not as corrupt as some elements we all know.
as long as some of Nigeria football officials keep getting some cuts from players signings (export from the domestic scene to Europe) lots of good foreign lads will always be ignored...because they won't want to grease the palms of these corrupt folks in like manner |

hahahahaha.. unbelievable.. I'm sorry the white man grooming some of our Nigerian players does not stop us from developing our own youth system. At the same time, just because the white man groomed some of those players does not mean you should pitch your home grown players against his. What is seemingly his could be ours, else FIFA wont make that provision which have benefited many countries. Please don't even start an argument that is already dead. Icon4s: Your last sentence: but you wait for the white man to groom those players and then you want to harvest the best of them to your country. |

And i've stressed it over again that i'm talking about our best players regardless of where they are born. Which is why we cannot only afford to settle for players that England for example wont have even considered in their main team, just because we were not proactive enough to spot their special talent early. Humility017: I believe what Sir Icon4 is strictly against is the invitation of every dick and harry all because they're foreign born.... any player that should be invited should merit it....though our national team handlers often does not see the future..so myopic but still effort should be made to spot talents amongst these foreign groomed Nigerians |

hahaha. Need I say it again, The NPFL is a big joke!!!Football | Nigeria Obinna Nwobodo © Shengolpixs Rate our new adverts and win a HD PVR decoder BPL Fantasy League Nigeria Premier League prediction game Rangers fight back to hold Gombe by Sammy Wejinya 10 May 2017, 19:38 Enugu Rangers and Gombe United played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game on Wednesday. Obinna Nwobodo took the game by the scruff of the neck with a virtuoso display capped by two goals either side of the break but the hosts battled back gamely to claim a share of the spoils at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe. Nwobodo’s first goal on 12 minutes was largely down to great work by Osas Okoro who showed great skill and composure before squaring for the midfielder to tap home from close range. His second in the 58th minute was down to sheer individual brilliance as the Flying Antelopes dared to dream, licking their lips in anticipation over the prospect of amassing maximum points away from home. Those hopes disappeared in a flash as two goals in a space of 180 seconds dramatically turned the game on its head. Austine Oladapo got the fightback underway with a goal from close range and he completed his brace soon after from the penalty spot after the referee adjudged that a Rangers player had handled the ball in the box. The hosts thought they had got the final say deep into stoppage time as Ibrahim Abdullahi struck in the second minute of stoppage time to temporarily give the hosts a 3-2 advantage. Manic celebrations by the home fans proved premature in the end as Osas Okoro struck with literally the last kick of the game to give his side a share of the spoils. Rangers stay in 16th place on the NPFL standings with 23 points from 19 points while Gombe United climbed one place on the log to 17th, leapfrogging 3SC who now drop to 18th. Gombe United have now amassed 23 points from 19 matches this season. https://www.supersport.com/football/nigeria/news/170510/Rangers_fight_back_to_hold_Gombe |

My criticism is constructive and contextual. I've always supported Rohr's every decision simply because we are winning. My point about Bazee is Torunarigha should have been given more priority because we are still lacking a very good left back. Never said he is not a good player. We are talking about places we need to fix in the SE now. Again, once Germany shows special interest in Torunarigha it would be hard for us then to convince him to play for Nigeria. Nigeria is not proactive enough especially when it matters. Ebuehi was a good move. But he still yet to justify his inclusion. Mind you the likes of Ndidi started from somewhere. So home based does not mean not good enough. But it means they have more to prove. I hope Odey is able to make the SA team. Why not? -- especially if he proves it in Corsica. ProfOrlando: But seriously why is everyone criticizing rohr for inviting the likes of sareren-bazee and ebuehi. as a Nigerian based in Hannover, Germany. I can tell you that sareren-bazee is a great player. I watch him almost every week and for me he's just as good as Sané. he might not score alot of goals but he has other qualities like pace, dribbling and he gives alot of assists too. I don't really know much about Tyrone but I think he's also good too. I thinks those NFPL players are just overhyped , these players aren't really good technically, you can tell from the way they play on TV and even their poor performance outside the country in caf tournaments. I think the best players are the ones abroad. forget odey we've got kayode and kelechi , They are much better , probably when they go abroad they might learn enough to be good enough for the national team. as for onyekuru's snub, I think rohr is right too. onyekuru does not play in the best of leagues . so he'll have to prove his consistency for another season to prove he's good enough for the national team so he does not end up like the likes of Peter utaka and co.
people might also want to prove me wrong about what I said about home based players with the likes of oboabona mba and co. but I must say that their performance especially in afcon 2013 was mainly because of the late Stephen keshi's tactical genius. you can tell by looking at where they are today |

your argument is appalling. Developing our youth system is totally another matter. Every Nigerian born at home or abroad is a Nigerian. And we would need all Nigerians to improve be it in sports or otherwise. Hence we must always go for our best. Should we have a Nigerian player who goes abroad and becomes the best in another country, are you saying that country will never offer him their passport or ask him to represent them? Your argument is very misplaced especially in the current world we live in. People who have anything against foreign born Nigerians are delusional. I don't see how this stops you from developing your own. unbelievable. Icon4s: You want to secure all the special English grown Nigerian players?
See, every year talented young Anglo-Nigerian players will be springing up. So also are Nigerian youth internationals. We can only invite those that fit into the team's program now and going forward.
Besides, you want to snatch all the special English born players why can't you develop your own? You want to start harvesting yams from another man's farm when you also have the yam seedlings and fertile land to cultivate and harvest yours. |

If I were in the NFF I will make case for a special feeder team for the SE. The primary purpose is to keep our special talents connected to Nigeria so they would feel more Nigerian. This team of young players should not be REQUIRED to go through our U20 set up. All the young PROMISING ABROAD-BORN players will make up this team, and they would be called up every now and then for a get-together to train with the main Super Eagles. Guys why is it that when oyibo man start to see something really special with our players, that's when everybody starts shouting cap him first. Don't we have our own eyes? Can't we think ahead of time? With the mentality most of us have we will lose more and more Alabas. You expect this boys to choose Nigeria all of a sudden when England wants to cap them in their main team? Well yes, playing for Nigeria should also be a thing of pride, but we can't settle only for the players England would never have even considered for their main team. That's playing second fiddle in the war. |

We need to think about now and the future. We cannot afford to lose special players to England. This does not in anyway distract us from qualification. And I don't agree. The NFF is luring players born in England not just for the sake of fixing areas where we have problems. All I'm saying is they should prioritize with really talented players instead. So tell me why did Rohr go for Bazee instead Torunarigha if your assertion is true? Icon4s: Just for camping? Please we need players that will contribute to our WC and AFCON qualifications either on the pitch or from the bench. It is not as if we do not have a team in place. We have a team already and any player that is coming in now must add value.
The coaching crew is doing what it can to secure the ones that are AVAILABLE and WILLING to represent Nigeria. And Rohr is not just inviting just to snatch them from England as you put it. He is inviting them based on necessity of using them to fix any position(s) we are lacking depth. That is the adding value I am talking about. For eg Aina and Ebuehi would definitely add depth and options to the defense. But what value will someone like Onyedinma add to the midfield? Remember we still have a lot of young AM/Wingers that have not even been considered. Eg Samuel Kalu, Henry Onyekuru, Obinnna Nwobodo(scored a brace today at away Gombe), Kelechi Nwakali.
If Rohr needs any player whether foreign born or locally born he will invite. If the player is not part of his plans/program then no invitation. Not just because we want to snatch them from England. |

I personally will give special consideration to players not born in Nigeria who are showing lots of promise for obvious reasons.. Let me state it here. Should they become a hot property and England wants them, it will be hard for Nigeria to win the war. It's easier to win them over when they had met the SE family. b tbaba1234: Apart from some highlights, I have not seen him play.
We have seen players shine in the lower leagues but unable to cut it in the premier league.
At this point, i will invite him to an under 20/23 side instead of the national team. There are several players ahead of him in his role. Onyekuru, Samuel Kalu etc are yet to be given a look in. |

South Africa/Nigeria: Rohr to Name Different Squad for South AfricaContrary to the belief in some quarters that the list released Monday would be the same squad for the AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has said that the list of players released yesterday was solely for the team's training exercise in France and the Corsica friendly game. " Not at all," the Franco-German tactician clarified, adding, "this is not the list for the clash against South Africa. It's just for the camping in France and the friendly against Corsica. The list for the South Africa tie will be out later in the month." Continuing, the coach said, "The camp in France is to see some of the young players we have in the team, and also gauge the level of fitness of some of the players who have not been playing a lot for their teams. "After the friendly against Corsica, we will release another list which will be for the game against South Africa in Uyo, with some players returning while those who impress during the camp in France will also be included " http://allafrica.com/stories/201705100546.html |

If I remembered my point clearly then, sticking to the point. I made reference to his interview on a digital edition of magazine, that based on the information provided about his graduation from secondary school, club experience etc, his declared age was most likely not true. komekn: I did not.
The reality is that within the whole packaging (marketing) of a player age falsification is intrinsic to its success.
The fact that it is impossible to verify or substantiate anybody date if birth in Nigeria makes the whole process very easy.
There is progression MRI has helped but at least you don't have men of 25/26 being paraded as U17 anymore. |

I don't care one bit about the Corsica friendly. That French territory is just a small island. I think the highlight for me is the get-together which will give Rohr another opportunity to blend the familiar players and take a look at the new players. Even our U-17 team can execute this friendly successfully, which is why I don't care who Rohr fields for the match. It would have been better if we had played a French club side. Anyway, friendly na friendly. |

Well I think the system only attempts to address poor performance or provide better learning at the childhood stage, not necessarily solve illiteracy as it has to do with the Nigerian factor. I think Nigeria's problem with low literacy is poverty. Maybe I'm mixing up the argument. But I will wait to watch the movie. TheSuperNerd: Yep.... the entrepreneurship mindset can be applied to even current soccer stars.... no need for schooling on that one. Those with eyes on the far future can be helped through good workshops, seminars or whatever to invest wisely with the income flowing in from football so as to have an empire to fall back on years after retirement.. C.Ronaldo, Zlatan, and a host of these guys understand this and are applying it already.... but we gotta enlighten our own current footballers about it.
But that is on one hand.... the coach carter concept is about Kids who haven't started earning yet.... so entrepreneurship classes is easily included in the dynamic curriculum of their football-education journey....
Our focus in the CC concept is on the kids for tomorrow not on guys already playing the game at top levels.
And let the results of the Concept applied be the judge of what level of guarantee we are talking about coz it has worked wonders to a strong degree at various places around the world...... and after all, All of Life is a risk..... but are we gonna fold our arms because there are no 100% guarantee or because risks are involved?
Bottomline... go watch the movie but plss if you won't do it with an open heart and mind and keen observation..... then I pray thee.... just don't bother wasting your time.... |

Okay good. Your suggestion IF (Big if) it works in the long run does not still guarantee much. But I agree some footballers after their retirement will be better off through that system. I think what they really need is not jobs after retirement, but an entrepreneurship mindset which they should have even during their careers. But for those who fell by the way side. What will those who did not succeed in going professional fall back to? And how will their situation be different from our many graduates still looking for jobs? TheSuperNerd: Uhmmmm.... I believe centrally it is about making the next-next-next generation of Nigerian footballers more equipped for life after football.... our focus is on the kids of tomorrow to become better individuals as ex-internationals in the after-tomorrow....
For me, since I was growing up I was always in shock at how many of our ex-internationals live and try to survive Years after their retirement from the game.
So the issue is not with our current footballers... it is for the kids who still have the chance to experience the best of both worlds.
But ofcos... we know not all will become professional footballers and we wouldn't want those who won't make it as football stars (for whatever reason) to have nothing to hold onto as they grow up into adults. |

Okay well, let me be sure I get the point of this whole argument. What is the problem we have here? Nigerian footballers who don't have formal education? TheSuperNerd: Ofcos I did.... But didn't wanna dwell much on it. Or why do you think I spoke of Selection of teachers.... do you know the reasons behind why I say we must select and why? and then expose them to the concept which won't be difficult to grasp.....
This is between the teachers, with the virtues I want (not perfect teachers but teachers that will get the job done and are willing to put in their best), and the kids... and also involving their parents and even more parents to be convinced after the first trial.
So don't say I didn't get you... it was you who didn't understand why selection must be done. I factored in the Nigerian mentality and host of other factors before making that one comment.
But before you can question me further on this... bcoz you don't sound optimistic at all... go watch the Coach carter movie and get an idea. |

The system will face the challenge of duplication, which is why it's not even still applied at a larger scale today. Teachers will need to firstly, have love for the profession, be truly interested in children, have patience etc.. which is why I brought up the issue of our Nigerian mentality. I've passed through different education systems and noticed this is not only typical with Nigerian teachers. But you didn't get me on that. I wasn't talking about mentality of young children lol _____ corrected my typos. had replied in a hurry TheSuperNerd: Don't you get it already? looolll
The short term plan won't be to cover all.... it is a test-run... and will involve some and not all.... I mentioned that in the early posts I replied you with... I said something like... "before we go widespread and long term... we have to watch how it goes in a six year plan... the doubters' test"
So are you asking questions to know whether it is feasible or just to show that I don't know what I am talking about or it just can't work coz it sounds to me you don't buy it at all....
Well like you first said... go watch the movie before you join issues with me. |

All I'm saying is we have lots of football talents in the country that you can hardly reach in a short time with that system. Doesn't solve the problem to me. However you can help some kids with it. TheSuperNerd: You are moving too far ahead and too fast.... there is a reason I start with a six year plan.
Your 20 year talk is looking way way down the road at who will make it in the game and who will focus om professional fields or other subprofessional fields outside football....
Ofcos it is a long term plan... but a test-run of six years is to show that these kids can navigate through high school education in both worlds... football and education... that is he short term outlook before going gung-ho into the long term brouhaha of it all....
This thing called the coach carter system/concept, when it was first applied by Coach carter himself, worked on kids within less than 2-3 yrs.... then it became a norm and it is still being used today. Some other places around the world have adapted it to suit their own environment and ideals and it is still working. So a six year doubters test plan will do at first before the marathon.... |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:04pm On May 08, 2017 |
Sounds like a long term plan to me that's if it will succeed. It would take about about 2 decades or so for us to determine the overall benefit of the system based on first test run. Ask me why if you have not already figured out. remember the context for now is our football talents. TheSuperNerd: The teacher to students ratio will be well sorted... and yes the teachers have to be selected... we have a great number of teachers in Nigeria and more are still rising. And selection will have to be done because this system has a target for the kids. It is goal-oriented. So the teachers have to be picked and exposed to the system... that won't be difficult really.
And talking of the number of talented kids.... you have to consider the size each school can take. So this is why it has to be a widespread thing but before that... we have to give it a test-run for about 6years maximum since people wanna know what they will be getting into and what benefits would result. We have to employ what I call "the doubters' test" |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 2:50pm On May 08, 2017 |
By how sustainable, I'm considering the teacher to student ratio. Since teachers will need to be carefully selected it means you can only reach a few students since patience will be needed in this individualized teaching system. Sounds to me the the system cannot rrach hundreds and hundreds of talented kids waiting to be nurtured, since duplication will be highly challenging. TheSuperNerd: Thanks man.... the teaching personnel will be carefully selected and then exposed to how the concept will work. because we need dedication and Patience on the part of the teachers on the academic side to ensure that no child is left behind even as the football coaches on the sports side do their thing with keenness and professionalism....( and room for exceptions as regards super exceptional talents will be made too in case he or she struggles academically... a newer and better approach will be fashioned for him or her according to how he or she can learn best and every child has a way of being reached out to..... "Like stars on earth" a movie that tells of a real life story of a boy with a neurological problem called Dyslexia who was reached out to and made sound enough academically thru the efforts of just one teacher's dedication and Patience).
How sustainable? well, The Nigerian Mentality is what it is... every environment has their general mentality but again we deal with kids.... kids between 11-18 are almost the same all over the world based on traits common to preteens and teens.....
Though it is true a child forms his/her core personality between ages 2-7.... I believe. But basically kids the world over are still explorers and curious even at ages 11-18 and can still be fashioned and moulded to fit certain systems and situations.
I believe when the parents see that the child will be the better for it then they will have no choice but to support the child (who has love for playing the game) also in his venture into the two worlds of sports(football in this case) and education. |

However, I would like to ask, how about the the teaching personnel. will they need to have some kind of specialized training? Let's put Nigerian teachers into perspective. Also how sustainable, considering our mentality? TheSuperNerd: Forget about the use of Cannot and will not.... My posts were well labeled and explained... and even when I said "Can work" (and I majorly said "Can Work" and u even acknowledged that you understand the mix-up even when I used will work- which I did coz I was trying to stress a point).... you still didn't bulge about your position on the concept working in Nigeria... you went on and on about me not grasping the realities on ground.... and implied centrally that the system cannot work for our kids. You also kept making use of Olodo rabatas description.
If you said it may work, or let us give it a try.... Would we be having this debate?? Na wa oooo.... isn't it clear how this part of the debate began?
And the argument on the highly talented child was already settled in one of my earlier posts and my thoughts shared summarily again in the post you just quoted before this angle of the debate saying "Coach carter concept cannot work in Nigeria" began......
On the issue of forcing.... which was never the issue while we debated... you made the comment while making a point to another and now I asked you if your child was in a scenario that have him wanting to leave school before he finishes secondary school sef... would you allow it? You have answered that one... and no, your child is not the super and highly talented example.... he is just a kid who is convinced his destiny lies I'm football and not schooling... don't shift the goal post on that one.... your child and the issue of the special talent is different..... as simple as that.
And no you didnt use any phrase directly but you implied simply that the coach carter concept cannot work for all as regards those combining football(or any sports at all) and Education. Then I made use of "will work" when stressing how it worked from scums of the earth in black america, in ghetto slums and all....
Then I always reverted back to my "Can work", " effective", and "results-laden". Chikena.... |

I have an idea of a form of education that will work in Nigeria. I believe it will be the best system in the world. It's not necessarily new in it's every aspect but it's very different from the formal education we've always known. One thing about our formal education even to the university level all over the world is students are not taught with empowerment in mind which is why we lack many entrepreneurially-ready graduates with leadership skills, but what we have is a majority who graduate with only one thing in mind -- finding a "good" job. That's not the reality of the century we live in. That mindset belongs to the Industrial Age. And this also applies to our young footballers. I will stop at that. I have a dream! |
