Fellow Nairalanders, kindly send in the worst Nigerian website(s) you have come across. You can also tell us why you think the website is the worst.
PoliticsRe: Will Atiku Get the Boot Soon? by joftech(m): 9:00pm On Aug 31, 2005
May God and the "irumales" punish all the people that are stealing this country's resources for their own selfish use.
And they think their children will enjoy all these ill-gotten goods, never God forbid.
Don't they know that houses do crumble.

I have been saying it and i mean it, if they don't stop all these stealing, a repeat of the French revolution is imminent here, when it will start is what i don't know.
ComputersRe: Opera Web Browser by joftech(m): 8:51pm On Aug 31, 2005
uses IE interface minus all security vulnerabilities, supports multiple tabs, multi-windows since ages,
is faster,
Avant is as vulnerable as IE since they are both using the "control". What Avant developers did was just to add tabbed browsing feature and other to IE "control".Don't let them fool you.

Even now IE support tabbed browsing once you install MSN Desktop Search.
CrimeRe: Lagbaja's Website Hacked by Turkish Hackers! by joftech(m): 8:46pm On Aug 31, 2005
Yes the site is back again, so the <snip> hackers have decided to release it.
script-kiddies not hackers.

It's just a simple task for them to bring it back online. And it's very easy to deface a site once you get the access to the web server's hard dirve.
ComputersRe: Opera Web Browser by joftech(m): 12:50pm On Aug 31, 2005
You can still make Windows not to display that box if you want and know howto.

CrimeRe: Lagbaja's Website Hacked by Turkish Hackers! by joftech(m): 12:33pm On Aug 31, 2005
The site is back online.

And who says they (script-kiddies) can't be challenged. If you have got the time and some fat pipes "fast connections" (it could be your own or not) you can win them hands down.

Most of the people that are responsible for these defacements are nothing but script-kiddies, not real hackers. For God's sake why are some people bent on tarnishing the hacking culture.

The only bizarre part of the whole incident it that why did it take them so long to bring back the site after the breach. Breaches like this happen on a daily basis even on high profile sites like microsoft.com, ebay.com and yahoo.com.

One thing is that most people here in Nigeria don't know the economic capabilities of their sites hence they normally let them to thrive on their own till they become a reference point in these script-kiddies exploits chest.  It's just a status symbol afterall.

Nigerian govts websites are the worst in all. It's either they are under the wrong domain or they are riddled with dead links and very very poor graphics and page layout, all these are projects that gulp thousands and millions of Naira.

NUC and NFA are just some of the culprits. I will be starting a thread on these bad websites soon, please watch out and contribute.

ComputersRe: Opera Web Browser by joftech(m): 9:58am On Aug 31, 2005
ActiveX is very good as it give developers some cool features, i really like it. But i think MS should remove it since they are now touting .NET as it's successor. Anyway it can't be done overnight, backward compatibility issues is a huge task.

Opera is good and so are all other softwares., it all depends on end user's preference(s).

Those stupid comedians that started the "woowoo" craze are delinquent chauvinist. It's has even get to a stage that they have started calling themselves that.

It's not a new thing, it happened it the west in th 70s when people see Nerds as no gooder. Now the table has turned nerds are Billionaires and "Mr & Mrs Fine-faces" are washing their cars.

Some people are so lucky that they don't live in the west, else some lawsuits would have send them into oblivion.

It's not all about your face and figure, it's about your being.

What i see now is that baba wants to take corruption back to the '70s when it was strictly an elitist preserve…,
Good. For me it’s better for it (corruption) to be that way than the flagrant display of theft at all level of governance in the country right now.

In the US, corruption is for the elite and they conceal it in such a way that even if it’s been done right in front of you, you will never know what’s going on. That’s good because it does not make the citizens to raise an eyebrow; what you don’t know won’t give you a sleepless night.

What type of business did a retired customs officer in less than 20 years do to be able to have an American-standard private university, nursery & primary school, secondary school and a 100 PCs Internet café. All these are not even for the poor but for the super-rich. Let them call all his mates that retired at the same time and let’s compare their net-worth now.

If OBJ is also corrupt let’s wait and see, I don’t know who will challenge him (except God and death). The stupid senators that are supposed to challenge their excesses are puppets and clowns. Since OBJ is our “Olori Ebi” (Head of State) he should be able to discipline any wayward child (Nigerian).

Till we see the aftermath of this saga, OBJ’s moral standard remains in the balance.

OBJ has no power to remove diplomatic immunity outside this country.

PoliticsRe: Will Atiku Get the Boot Soon? by joftech(m): 9:16pm On Aug 30, 2005
According to reports by Washington Post, the house was Abubakar's official residence in the US, and the diplomatic immunity was removed  before they went in to search the house.

I don't think Mr. President was responsible for the search since he can't  influence the US justice system.

The graft allegation levied against Abubakar is a pure litmus test to OBJ anti corruption campaign. If he fail to be decisive on this issue, it may sound the death kneel for his wooing campaign for foreign investors/investments.

Abubakar who was a top-shot in the privatization process has already spoilt the nations image and hope of bringing in foreign investors since they now know that bidding for any of the companies is based on who and whom you know.

If he is left to go scorch-free, I wonder what this will connote to the nations image abroad.

The PTOs that are offering Internet Access are only scamming the licenced ISPs, very soon ISPs will be taking up the case with NCC.

I can only envisage the demsie of Internet Access by these PTOs in the horizon.

When we talk about 419er, how about corrupt govt officials. When our top public figure are buying mansions and taking kickbacks, what do you expect the masses to do.

Since they cannot get to "Abuja" or get the knife to cut the national cake, they conquer and plunder the Cyberworld with their dying ingenuities cry.

For your information Nigeria has added some of the most used phrases like, 419, Ayahj, Maga, Mugu and a host of others too numerous to mention to the Cyberworld.

For 419ers to stop their acts, they must have a genuine reasons to stop.

2.) To shore-up that bank account in Cayman Island.
EducationRe: Nigerians and Their 'Craze' for Degrees by joftech(m): 8:04pm On Aug 29, 2005
Kanye West said it all in that "College Drop Out", (Lil Jimmy Skit, Family Business, I'll Fly Away and Never Let me down) are my favovorite songs right now. Kanye himself a college drop out has achieve what some PhDs can't achieve.

A degree is good if it was gotten on a knowledge seeking and not a job seeking basis. We mostly miss the meaning of a degree in Nigeria (so much emphasis on paper certification).

I personally will never put myself through the hassle of obtaining a Nigerian degree, it's not worth it; they will never give me what i want anyway.

Some days ago JAMB registrar was lamenting the low number of candidates registering for the Poly JAMB exam, that is sounding the death knell for the nations technical power base.

Now 1st degree holders can hardly get a job. Most are now going for Masters, in 5 years time a 1st degree will have the same value of a School Cert, (Standard 6 >School Cert >Degree) all in that order.

So if you want to get a Degree in order to get a job, make sure you are get your Masters as well in one straight hop.

War-driving has nothing to do with website defacement. As Kazey has rightly said, war-driving is driving around town to look for porous and insecure wireless LAN.

I will be grateful if you can post out that forum to this board. If that's what you hear in that forum it means they has misled/miseducate you on war-driving.

Please always verify a term before jumping into conclusion about it. This boards like this are serving as an education forum for newbies like you.
Nairaland GeneralRe: To Develop Information Technology in Nigeria by joftech(m): 11:55am On Aug 29, 2005
@Guardian, your objection to the deployment of Broadband Over Power Line(BPL) as a result of unstable power supply is not a valid impediment to it’s deployment here. In our previous posts, we both advocated for regular power supply as a prerequisite for ICT development. If and when eventually there’s a stable power in this country won’t BPL be a valid and cost-effective option than fibre optics?

I have been following BPL for close to 4 years now. When eventually it gain widespread usage and all it's teething problems are over, you will know that it's the only broadband connectivity option that Nigeria has a ready infrastructure for.

I hope new technologies will be able to reduce/remove the interference issue which has made it not to be a widely deployed solution. With big names like IBM, Google, Intel, Cisco etc committing millions of dollars into the development of BPL I can only but envision a well-connected Nigeria.

According to this report by Washinton Post. The controversial official residence of the Nation's number 2 citizen in the USA was ransacked by officials of the FBI.

According to the report it was carried out as part of the investigation into a graft deal that involved Mr. VeePee and William Jefferson a former American Democrat Senator.

NIGERIA WHICH WAY FORWARD? cry

If the story making the round is/are true, where on earth did he/she manage to get that amount of money. How about the ABTI American University in Yola.

All these make me sick. When political officers put the interest of their pockets before national interest, i wonder what future the present political setup has.

And now the Transcorp mafia want OBJ to go for 3rd term, is it only OBJ (in a country of 120 million) that (really) has what it takes to move this country forward? God save us o.

Broadband Over Power Line will be a great solution. I still prefer that over laying fresh cables.
