MySql is in Trouble.

With the recent acquisition of InnoDb by Oracle all may not be well in MySql AB camp.

InnoDB provides the cool engines that powers MySql transactional storage engine and crash recovery capabilities. InnoDB table type is also good at transactional activities.

What did Oracle stand to gain from this move.

Does the EFCC has the manpower and equipments to police the Internet in Nigeria. Even the wordings of the bill/law is flawed.

There is no way EFCC can police the Internet here.

Arabic inscriptions are also in the Nigerian Army logo. I wonder why some people are so foolish enough to put Arabic inscriptions on the nations most important emblem.

I have nothing against moslems, Arabic writings has nothing to do with Islam.

I design with the yahoo site builder.
you need to try it, you may like it.
Yahoo site builder is not a pro tool. You should try and lay your hands on the following (Dreamweaver, Frontpage 2000 or later versions and Adobe GoLive) if you really want to give your clients the "out-of-this world design" they want.
PoliticsRe: 1,000 Naira Note: Will there be inflation? by joftech(m): 1:18am On Oct 12, 2005
There will definately be inflation. Some people don't know that what they read in textbooks don't normally apply in reality.

People have a penchant for more and this will make 500 to be a second class citizen to 1000. Where is 25k, 50k, 1 Naira, they are all gone thanks to the introduction of higher notes.

The demise of N5, and even N10 is just some few years away.

Some people in here are so carried away with the promise of a $100 laptop. Have any of you think about how "big" $100 is. Many can't even afford their daily bread talkless of getting $100. Untill people are empowered stuffs like this will continue to be rich mans toys.
PoliticsRe: Does the U.S. Use 'Globalization' to Cheat Poor Countries Like Nigeria? by joftech(m): 11:23pm On Oct 08, 2005
Like any new development globalization has it's own wonderful implications as well as woes.

The issue of Wordl Bank and IMF loaning money to poor countries is not the fault of the West, if they gave you an offer and you refuse they will never force you to take the loan. But our leaders simply for their selfish interest sheepishly oblige to take all the poison laden morsel(loans) thrown at them.

The best way to kill someone is to give him/her unfettered access to loans. I don't blame the west, i blamed our leaders for our own woes; what are the so called leaders even doing with those loans; the loans always eventually end up in some western bank vault while the masses whom are supposed to be beneficiaries of the loans end up not getting the loan.

It's a well known fact that multinational companies are the worst thing that can ever happen to a country and community. Multinationals always send their profit to their home country after milking people in their operating bases, but we still pray for their presence.

Until each country develop their internal economic system to a state where it can be substainable without external influences the issue of globalization will continue to be a huge contention.

The ilk of George Soro (sorrow) and co always and will continue to bring sorrow to masses in improverished nations for their own selfish interest, when you fail to play ball with them you are seen as a foe that must be vanquishedrolleyes
Christianity EtcCatholic Church No Longer Swears By Truth of the Bible by joftech(op): 9:17am On Oct 08, 2005
This report shows the changing faces of religion.

Catholic Church no longer swears by truth of the Bible
By Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent

THE hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true.

The Catholic bishops of England, Wales and Scotland are warning their five million worshippers, as well as any others drawn to the study of scripture, that they should not expect “total accuracy” from the Bible.

“We should not expect to find in Scripture full scientific accuracy or complete historical precision,” they say in The Gift of Scripture.

[PASSAGES SAID TO BE LITERALLY] UNTRUE [BY THE BISHOPS}
Genesis ii, 21-22
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man

Genesis iii, 16
God said to the woman [after she was beguiled by the serpent]: “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

Matthew xxvii, 25
The words of the crowd: “His blood be on us and on our children.”

Revelation xix,20
And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had worked the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshipped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with brimstone.”
So what do you think about this amendment?

WebmastersRe: Worst Nigerian Website by joftech(op): 11:26pm On Oct 07, 2005
The graphical desgin and layout of NECO's website is 100% OK IMO. What's really giving them a bad name is the infrastructure that support the site i.e. bandwidth, server processing speed.

i will suggest this as a way out of their current pridcament:

1.) They should try and get 3 servers/site (separate hardware i mean here) that will cater for the 3 geopolitical zone. so they will have URLs like nzregistration.neconigeria.org, szregistration.neconigeria.org, ezregistration.neconigeria.org.

2.) They should try and make use of client side processing instead of the all ASP page they have got. Some smart client-side scriptings will remove/reduce the fraustrations users are experinencing.
InvestmentRe: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by joftech(m): 9:52pm On Oct 06, 2005
hello
i love your style oooooooooooooo
you mean you want to buy microsoft shares? it is a nice idea.
I see this as the dumbest idea of all season. Banking ones financial future on MSFT is a sure and impending financial doom, MS has been losing condisderable market share due to the stiff competiton she hs been getting from the Open Source community.

MSFT has come to her pleatue of financial growth, what they are now doing is consolidating and maintaining the past tempo and vibrations whihc they have generated in the industry, but unfortunately it seems "sand no fit hold water well" in Redmond.

The recent turn around been spearheaded by Steve "the embalmer" of the "I will fu??ing kill and bury Google/Eric" fame has not even change peoples perception of peoples opionion.

The recent planned retirement of Windows Vista's general oveerser Allachin has send some wrong signal at the wrong time to the computing community.

MS Office which is one of MSFT most priced cash cow has constantly been under attack from the like of openoffice.org, and Goole's planned web based office suites.

I recently heard that MS is even planning the armagedon of GMAIL. The new service was said to have been designed from the ground up to be the Outlook for the web, a pure web service that's based on XML and the cool XMLHTTP technology.

We have seen Novel, Caldera(SCO) and the rest; is MSFT the next?

Your experience really laid bare the situation of poor education people are getting here. For this and many more reasons i have vowed never to earn a Nigerian degree in my life (though some people think am stupid shocked).

Am still waiting for the day a Nigerian university graduate in Computer science/engineering will challenge me on a project.

@ Flint A 2nd scenario is the case of the whizzkid who can't string a correct sentence. I finished from Ife and I came across a number of cases like this while still in school. There are folks who are very sharp. They have solved all the calculus and understood all the fluid mechanics but they probably had bad English teachers. This usually affects a number of them who pass all the stages of aptitude tests but are not able to express themselves effectively at final interviews.
Those that suffer from this syndromes ought to have been put in special schools for proper upbringing. I always gasped when children with autism and asperger's symdrome are seen and termed as imbeciles in Nigerian schools. Too much premiums have been placed on paper certificates and university education.

@jogego God bless you for your kind gesture (you have sent it already, since you wish to in your heart).

Am OK with IPCOP for now and i will propably install the new update 1.4.9 next week, i hope it will have some better features.

@Hunter, a country does not have an IP range, its mostly sold to ISP and individuals that need it.

I did burn the old ClarkConnect 2.2 Home Edition on my hard drive but it i could not get past the media check (this is one reason why i hate Redhat, ClarkConnect is based on Redhat).

So i installed IPCOP 1.4.5 instead, it's cool but i could not do traffic shaping per IP/client basis. If anyone know anyway i can do this let me know.

It fluctuates between $1500-$2000 per share with a minimum of 100 shares.
If this is true i think Mr. Bill Gates would have become the first Trillionaire in the world by now.

I wonder if anyone in here have ever give it a thought why the Federal Government changed the 6-3-3-4 education pattern. The government has realised that Nigerian graduates are only paper certified.

It's now mandatory that you must have a first degree before you can proceed to study medicine here in Nigeria, LAW and some other courses/studies carry the same price. Do people think they, the FG felt people should just spend more time in schools.

I will like everyone here in Nigeria to lower their guards and come to reality and access the situation on ground from an open point of view.

Codec has been able to come out and show what's rightly obtianable here in Nigeria today. The situation is really bad that most fresh graduates are going for masters degree right after finishing their service year.

Until we learn to shun the paper certify craze, the situation will remain a lose-lose situation.

give me a break! Wole Soyinka,Gani Fawehinmi,Chinua Achebe to list but few are all graduates of notable university in Nigeria whom have carved niches for themselves at home and at abroad.
80% of the newly graduates are more or less half baked. I have cousin that recently finished her service year, she studied computer science and i find it very hard to believe that she does not even know how to open her yahoo email box.

One thing i mostly believe in is that the number of years you spend in school does not matter, what matters is your ability to develop yourself.

Many web host don't upgrade often. I don't know why. Till now many havent upgraded to php 5. why? if u know of a host that have latest of this languages let me know.
As an IT manager you must be able to access the good and bad impact of a new release, if the good outweigh the bad then you can go ahead and upgrade. Most new versions break at least 2 or 3 things in the present setup. Another impact is if there's anything like new hardware requirement for the new release, also if the new release won't add value to your present setup i don't see any reason why you/they must upgrade.

Becoming the president of any nation requires greasing alot of palms, the moment you can do that you have heard your result, is Pastor Chris ready to do the normal greasing.

Ordinary talk does not bring out the good smile, i think i like the type of vision ( the like of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Edgar Mevers ).

A Hummer cruising presidential aspiarant does not really hold much fascination from me, what will he ride when he become Mr. Presido.

Corruption is a worldwide phenomenon. The only thing that make me sick is the way people flaunt proceeds from corruption here with impunity.

Corruption in most of the respected countries in the world are worst than what's obtainable here. The only difference is that people overthere are more enlightened than our people here.

I personally will never bother if these stupid gays calling themselves politicians can provide me with regular power supply, prompt payment of good wages to workers and transparency in government dealings

E go better.

There's nothing like calling all the shots yourself. You have freedom (too much freedom can be problem at times though)

when you start all alone at times there's always the doubting part of you that will wonder if you will ever make it on your own, this should not be seen as a distraction it should be seen as a spur to greater exploits and decisive decision on your part.

The ability to see a bigger you in the making can get you to the world class slot.

Think Big, Start small.
