@Johnkent: Now I know am wasting my time talking with you cause you're one of those people that insult people simply because they disagree with you or have different oppinion from you. what is there to write home about if you're given a 5 days visa for a 3 days conference? you have only a day to be here and a day to get out! what if you decide to spend a day or two to shop for family and friends like others do? what happen if your flight get canciled or there's bad weather on the day you intend to travel? that means you'll have no option than to leave the next day (day 1 of your conference), what if there's no other flight leaving Nigeria to US untill the day three of your conference? you'll get here and tell them at the port of entry that "Am here for a conference that ends today" and I will be leaving tomorrow! right? and before I forget what does Schengen visa have to do with US or their embassy since you're talking sense and full of it? Do you even know what a schegen visa is? I guess not! It only apply to the EU countries in Europe smart mouth!!

Having said that, my point is that Nigerians are treated differently by the US embassies in Nigeria and other countries both Europe, Asian, and even most  African countries are treated way better that us (YES am nigeria A55h0l=) and also live in US where schengen visa does not apply!
Lord have mercy. In terms of the schengen visa, i was just trying to explain to you that it isnt just the US embassy that issues a few days visa; European embassies in the US do the same too to US legal residents.
Your explanation about shopping and a few days after conference bla bla bla makes absolutely no sense. If you applied for a visa for a conference in the US, you should only be granted a visa for the duration of the conference. This is not a tourist visa. You are going to the US for work(conference). Thats why most embassies ask for an itinerary before they issue a visa so they can have a clearer picture of how long u intend to stay.
You should know better if you do live in the states.

I don't remember ever insulting you so i don't get why u need to use the A word. I guess that tells us what kinda person you are.
Yo

@Johnkent: and whats the "lol" for? I guess that was why I said I could be corrected!! the way things operate in Europe and Asian is way different from your so called country Nigeria. Visit the USembassynigeria website or better still go there yourself or ask those that have gone through it and educate yourself more on how they function in NIGERIA!!! not Europe or Asia. The only Country I have ever heard of 5days US visa is nigeria to attend a 3days conference! other countries will get atleast a month! you are lucky they still call you (Nigeria) a country.
So, whats ur point?? ur just rambling about stuff that makes absolutely no sense.
If you intend to spend only 4 days in the US, what difference does it make if u're given a 10 days visa or a month visahuh
I really dont know were u get ur info from but here in the states, u usually get a schengen visa for the duration of days u'll be staying. My cousin got a 6 days schengen visa because thats how long she told them she was going to stay. Giving her a one month visa wouldnt make any sense cuz she wont be staying that long and she doesn't intend to be going back anytime soon.
And i'll appreciate if you have some respect for Nigeria. i'm not sure where u're from but i bet ur country isn't any better than Nigeria.

so some of y'all are willing to spend 300,000 naira on an plane ticket just to visit the US for 2wks and probably another 600,000 naira while u're here? must be nice to be rich in Nigeria.

10yrs visa?  huh Ghanaian passport is good for 5years to the best of my knowledge except if they recently changed it and there's no way in this world any American embassy will issue a visa valid even after the expiration of the passport. infact the last date to get a visa on any passport is aat least6months to the expiration of the passport or your rreturn(i could be corrected). The most you can get for a B1/B2 visa is 2yrs multiple PERIOD! anything else is renewal or extension and like some have mentioned here earlier, you only spend what is written on your I-94 (arrival/departure card) at the port of entry. You can have a 2yrs multiple and at the port of entry they'll give a date that is not morethan 10days and staying morethan the date on the I-94 without extension is against the USCIS law.
LOL. I dont know where u got your info from. US embassies do issue 10yr Multiple entry visas. Although it is rare in nigeria, it is very common in other european and asian countries.
Alot of people have their visas on an expired passport but they also carry an unexpired passport with them. The visa is valid regardless of the validity of the passport. A visa is only unusable after it expires or if it gets revoked by the issuing country.

The US embassy will issue you a 2yrs/3yrs/10yrs multiple entry visa on a passport that expires in 6 months. The passport expires and not the visa itself.

TravelRe: Citizenship by johnkent(m): 4:44pm On Jul 09, 2010
Alot of people have 2 Valid passports from the same country ( I myself do). I travel alot and sometimes it takes months to get a visa from an embassy and if i have to travel to some other country, then i use my other passport.
Just make sure the passport u used in entering a count is the same passport u show to immigrations when you depart.

90% of Nigerian american citizens hold passports from both countries and there isnt anything wrong with it. Nigeria allows dual citizenship and so does the US.

To answer your question again, u do not show ur US passport here in the US because no one cares. U have to show u have a valid visa to Nigeria before you are let on the plane and that would be ur Nigerian passport.
When u're coming back to the states, use ur US passport. no problems at all

Hi,
Maybe someone can help me out with the right answer. I recently got my US citizenship and up until then i was excited at the prospect of having dual citizenship. After the ceremony, we were told that we cannot use our former passports to travel anymore and it had to be the US passport because the US does not recognize dual citizenship embarassed.

My question is even though the US doesn't recognize it, does Nigeria recognize dual citizenship? Also, can I use my US passport to leave the US and upon getting to Nigeria, use my Nigerian passport to enter my land of birth? the same applies for when I'm returning to the states?

Thxs to all who respond
lol. u must have heard them wrong. US does allows dual citizenship. U just have to Use your Nigerian passport to fly into nigeria and when leaving Nigeria, u show your US passport. U should be just fine.

and not just that
when i won in 2002 they were seeking that you have at least 5 or 6 passes in your WAEC for that matter

also I dont want to be a pessimist but they have to go through rigorous medicals which I doubt they might pass considering their age

my 2 cents if they have small money to burn she can risk the interview

and if she is lucky she can go and be a care giver in the states i know a lot of caregivers personally in their mid 50s and they make quite a sum ranging from 2k a month to as much as 3k a month taking care of the elderly

she can go for a CNA certification in less than 2 months assuming she can read, write and communicate well ,she could start work if she passes the exams
rigorous medicalshuh medicals includes HIV, TB skin test, and shots. Their isnt anything rigorous about it.

Well, i don't think the main concern is about the fact that the parents omitted the children information in their application because, that issue might not come up before the parents are disqualified.
Now, winning a visa lottery is not an automatic qualification for the visa, one has to meet every eligibility which includes: Education (and if you are not educated, you must have a certified) Profession, Prime age and Transparent honesty.
Bear in mind that we are not talking about visiting or tourist visa neither are we talking about asylum application, but we're talking about immigrant visas. Therefore, the US embassy will likely disqualify anyone of such calibre for fear that such immigrant might not be useful to their country rather, they will more likely become a liability to the US government and resort to public funds.
The programme is intended for young useful and contributing class of people, not aged ones with questionable information
What visa fee would cost 600k, is that a visa for Mars planet or for the moon?
the minimum qualification is a high school diploma which his mom does have.

TravelRe: 1 Mnth,3 Mnths And 2 Years U.s Visas by johnkent(m): 6:28pm On Jul 03, 2010
They issue a one month, 2 months or longer visas depending on how long you intend to stay in the US.
What good would a 3 months visa do you if you only intend to spend 3 weeks in the stateshuh All you'll need is a month visa.
Again, because you've visited the United States of America before isnt a reason for your visa application to be approved.

Denzel dats exactly my fear.
i know how hard it is for young people to survive and i am afraid they arent really up to dat.
Worse is dat no one of the kids was included.
at least if they had included dem they will do the hustling but its not so.
again the possiblity of their kids coming in the future is zero cos if they ever succeed it is assumed dat they dont have kids!!!!!!!! except of course they will consider the kids that were over 21 cos they were not eligible in the 1st instance to be included.
But apart from dat it looks to me like the thing is just a dead end.
i am only trying to get the opinion of others before telling dem wat i think.[/tt]
Sounds like you are wanting someone to tell you what you want to hear but we've already told ya what a friend would tell ya.

Hold on, But if your parents happen to have extra money that they want to gamble with, they sure can try out for the visa and like u said, explain to them that none of their kids were included because they were over the age of 21.
If they do infact get the visa, all their childing over the age of 21 including you (which they'll have to include on their visa application at the US embassy) will be eligible to apply for permanent residency through them.
And if you guys(the kids) finally get a greencard and later on citizenship, you can file for your other siblings that were not able to be included in the DV lottery immigrant visa petition because ur parents didn't add them to the DV lottery application.

Gosh, i just thought about this and it should absolutely work out. No doubt. Boi, am good. U owe me a drink nigga.

@oyewolejos,
thanks for your advice.
Truth is dat things are not good enof to the point of coming wt enof money to invest.
actually if they shld come here it will be to hustle.it is because i know they will only be here to hustle dat i am sort concerned.

@coolier,
they sure will be disqualified if the consular finds out they have eligible kids wc they did not include.
the instruction is to include all eligible famil members even if they are not migrating wt u.
Failure to include dem means u lied in your initial application and will result in disqualifaction.
i know because i have gone thru the process.
They'll absolutely be disqualified. I'll advise that they save the visa money that they'll be spending at the embassy for something useful.
Them trying to lie that they dont have any kids wouldn't work but if it did, and they got a visa, just know that you and ur siblings will NEVER emigrate to the US through ur parents when they become permanent residents/citizens cuz they supposedly do not have any kids and if they turn around to say they have kids in nigeria, they could face deportation for lying to an immigration officer.
Just remember that you get sworn in before an Immigrant visa interview to tell the truth and nothing but the truth and y'all nigerians think you can get away with lying during the interview

Again, I'll advise they stay back in Nigeria. At their age, they should be thinking about retiring and not how to start a new life in America cuz they'll probably not make it here.
Am just being honest.
TravelRe: My Parents And The Us Visa Lottery. by johnkent(m): 9:12am On Jul 02, 2010
who won the lottery? your mom or your dad?
They could actually be disqualified at the embassy for not adding their kids under the age of 18 to the initial DV application.

TravelRe: Can Nigerian Students Work Either On Campus/off Campus In Usa? by johnkent(m): 6:30am On Jun 26, 2010
if you're in the US on a F-1 student visa, u are allowed to work on-campus for not more than 20hrs/wk. Under some special circumstances will USCIS allow you to work off-campus while ur in school (e.g death in the family that has lead to inability to pay tuition or hyperinflation in your home country etc).
