If you ask me, I'd say it's all about choice. Being born deaf and dumb isn't a choice, just like having a road accident isn't a choice also, but being gay is a choice. It's something you choose to do or not do.

I'd say guts or as you put it, courage is a skill cos it's something everybody doesn't have, some skills are learned, some are cultivated, while some are in born.
