Atiku will never never be president. In my own small way, I will work tireless at home and abroad to make sure he continues to be vilified and shown for the thief he is, What legacy has he left after 8 years as VP, besides the much celebrated disloyalty and disrespect to his boss and pilfering of funds left, right and center. Rather than clear his name, he is looking for others to join issues with. OBJ will rather annull the election than allow this barawo misrule us for another 8 years. Incidentally, OBJ is saving the nation from itself, by eliminating the likes of Atiku. He should pack up and retire to his mansion in Maryland (hasn'nt explained to us how he came about the billions of Naira he owns). At least, with OBJ, nothing is a secret. We all know where his farm is located. The most off-putting thing about people like IBB and Atiku is the desperation in their bid to rule over us. No sentiments guys, but just watching interviews of Atiku and IBB on TV upsets me. ![]() |
Guys, please let's calm down and differ without resorting to these personal attacks. It's clear that nothing heats up this forum as much as discussions on IBB. That is the kind of man he is, and the emotions he elicits. An enigma who commands adulation and respect in some, derision and hatred in most But I have to agree with the opinion on IBB as a man fast approaching his sell by date, his relevance certain to remain in decline for the forseable future. However, he is still relevant today, no doubt, and his support is vital to a Yar'Adua victory. IBB, together with the likes of Abacha, are the worst Presidents this country has had the misfortune of having, and I'm convinced that for him, history will not only be harsh, but will have an ignominious end in store, just like his former benefactor and good friend, the former maximum leader and brute of a man, Sani Abacha |
White or black, Bunmi Oni has been found culpable, and the stock exchange has nothing to do with it. Besides, it's not for them to determine who is appointed as CEO of a company. Rather than be overtaken by the race card, our leading business minds should start enforcing corporate governance and adhere to strict financial reporting standards. The onus is on them and I'm not buying into any conspiracy theories. Enough of excuses. This is symptomic of the general ethical malais in our society. We should all work towards a new order of ethics and transparency in all that we do, corporate, goverment and all. |
I would vote for every single aspirant in the field today, including the jokers in the pack, than support that hot-air emitting Atiku. The quintessential Nigerian politician that he is, he is rather too ostentatious, indisciplined, currupt and manipulative to rule our Nigeria of Tomorrow. He represents the old guard and is already compromised by genuine allegations. He should retire to his comfortable mansion in Maryland, so that a new generation of progressive minds can take our country forward. |
Atiku Abubaker will never beat Yar'Adua as long as all the pdp governors back Yar'Adua which I'm sure most, if not all, will. This is Nigeria my friend. IBB, Gusau stand a better chance at the polls should they decide to defect. Atiku is more or less damanged and is hard-sell, has little support in the South and in the north is deeply compromised by Yar'Adua's emergence, He may be better off backing down and supporting a candidate like Buhari, |
As you must be aware by now, you are the only one commenting on this channel, the $3.50 must not have seemed like good value for money to some, can't say I blame them, thanks for the commentary anyway. Your near real-time reporting is working out quite well for us and looks like the convention is sure playing to the script of powers that be, |
@Babasin, The fact that our democracy is under-developed is the very reason why the best candidates are unlikely to win at the ballot box. Throw in the complex ethnic considerations + influence of money + sharp practices by returning officers and you'll agree that ours is a work in progress, However, it will be major credit to the PDP if Yar'Adua + Duke are adopted, as the very basis for their selection would signifify a determination to deviate from the past. |
It would seem www.transcorpnigeria.com is being upgraded again, as the site's currently offline. I'm keen to get my hands on their prospectus so I can forward to my 'learned' collegues in the UK looking for viable / safe medium term investments in Nigeria. |
Lets take a moment to consider the issues here, I doubt that anyone is suggesting Yar'Adua is the best candidate of the approx 150M people in Nigeria. But neither is George Bush, Prodi nor Chirac in the US, France and Italy respectively. The point is that Yar'Adua/Duke may represent the best option for us at this point in time in our history. Ours is a very young democracy requring that many factors be considered in adopting candidates. Duke would have been my choice, but realities of our time and factors on the ground would make a Duke Presidency an extreme hard-sell. That Yar'Adua has left his mark as an effective, financially prudent and transparent leader gets him my vote anyday. I'm also just glad that this should put paid to the nightmare that is IBB,Atiku and their ambitions. We just may have been spared another 8 years of reckless extravagance that is the norm in the private and public lives of these goons, |
His humility and the misery sorrounding his persona is what makes him even more appealing as a candidate. It's a refreshing departure from the noice emanating from the multitude of aspirants. His tenure as governor has been characterized by low key, but extremely effective execution of his mandate. In a nation of extreme flamboyance and financial recklessness typified by the likes of OBJ, Atiku, Odili, this is indeed a welcome development. And as Duke is likely to be his deputy, I believe it'll be an effective combo. Duke is also humble and is likely to be loyal (unlike some VP's we've come to know). They both have solid track records - and Duke himself would then be a president in waiting, ! |
Unfortunately, that's the case. PDP is the most entrenched party in the polity, akin to the ANC types in South Africa. Being the party in power, with such formidable infrastructure, in a nation like ours, unfortunately, confers a competitive advantage, rightfully or otherwise. I'm being a realist more than anything else. He has a broader appeal, perhaps because few know too much about him. Besides, he could easily pass as a consensus candidate. I'm not argueing that he is the best president Nigeria can have at this point, but in the circumstances, he'll do just fine. |
http://www.thenewsng.com/modules/news/ It's becoming clear that Yar'Adua will be the next president of Nigeria. I will support him, not least for his integrity compared to most other serving governors. Besides he has broad support accross the noth and south. But more significantly, his emergence should put paid to IBB, Atiku, Buhari's dubious ambitions, Stage is now set for Odili / Duke to be VP. They will certainly get my vote! What do you think? |
It's of some concern that, barely three days to the IPO launch, there is no relevant info on the TransCorp website regarding the public offer. The website itself was upgraded recently, then suddenly restored to it's previous, dull version! Has anyone seen the IPO prospectus, ? This offering by TransCorp may be the biggest to date, but I sincerely hope that bad press and the seeming uncertainty sorrounding constitution of board at such a sensitive time does not harm their cause. |
@ frankiriri I agree with most of your analysis, TransCorp may represent a longer term investment, especially when compared to the likes on DSR. I also question the timing of boardroom resignations , could not have come at a worse time, and should have been managed better (despite differences + regulatory issues), given that the IPO is imminent. Let's hope this does not impact the IPO too much. However, I will still invest in TransCorp + DSR. In spite of Transcorp's liabilities, I believe the share value will apprciate significanlty in under 1 year, and that their assets, especially Mtel and Hilton will break even, Hilton in 1 year, Mtel in 2. |
What's even more daunting is how to make a determination of the fair value of TransCorp shares, Withoug a track record, most investment banks (stock brokers) have very little to base their research on, and are cautious not to draw the wrong conclusions, Nonetheless, I can still see the shares hitting 15 Naira by the end of the IPO , but keen to find out what has sustained the keen interest of institutional investors thus far, The year's running out, and no mention of the IPO, still happening in December? |
I confirmed this on Friday too. Well deserved for thos who invested much earlier when things were less certain and risk higher. I had to review downward significantly, my investment in Dangote IPO on brokers advice of likely oversubscription. Is it getting clearer when the TransCorp IPO's scheduled and for how much? Also, any word on expected dividends / revenue in first year of operation? |
Interesting, I thought it started @ N1 for the core investors, the Dangote, Elumelu and Ovia types and moved to N6 @ the Private Placement. Would be interested to see where the 50K fits in this equation. But if it's true, depending on how much she invested, she may be up to her eyes in money for a long time to come, |
Scarce for me too, and it closed @ 8.42 today, not bad for those initial PP investors who got in @ 6. My sources tell me the IPO will be set @ 10, so this growth may continue until it hits 12. I'll keep trying for another week, then invest @ IPO if not unsuccessful. |
Good sense, and you're being very open with your ideas which is a commendable quality. However, beware that theft of ideas is a real risk, so don't let out more than is absolutely necessary until the deed is done. My opinion. |
Atiku is going nowhere. He is a ****ing con!! He should retire with baba. This ruling will be overturned in no time. |
Same applies to ALL the past Presidents, their deputies and all state governors. OBJ is not alone there, in fact history may be kinder to him that most before him. Also, the next leader is DEFINITELY destined to fail, as long as we continue to tolerate the likes of Atiku, IBB, Kalu, Gusau, Buhari and other devious morons desperate to rule Nigeria. |
Quite interesting article on TransCorp / Dangote sugar IPO's, should make good reading for all descerning investors. http://www.vanguardngr.com/articles/2002/columns/franklyspeaking/fs26112006.html |
Please let's not go there, this man is a desperate con, He has no business being in the presidency. All he aims to do is promote his business interests and that of his family and cronies. God forbid. Even the way he's been fratinizing with IBB shows his ambition and despiration to be president knows no bounds, Duke, Odili or any of the northen governors will get my vote over this staggerinly over-ambitious, unprincipled, characterless wannabee, |
Or you may buy before the books are closed and before the steep price rise , for example, a good buy right now is Oceanic bank, , the EOY results is expected to be superlative, results due anytime now, and by early Jan, should be trading at N19 or more. On TransCorp, has anyone been able to figure out what will be a fair value for the shares (especially as there is no trading / track record)? Any idea when the TransCorp IPO will begin? |
That's also the main source of my confidence and reason I'm willing to invest inin TransCorp. However, the influence of the directors + the fact that Nitel is likely to fare much better under TransCorp plays a big part too. Thinking about it, it's perception of risk like this that have made millionaires out of some shrewd investors. Yes, there is a lack of trading record, but something tells me TransCorp will fly. This is the scenario I see unfolding, A new goverment will come in and give the thumbs up to TransCorp (I'm confident this will happen. Let's not kid ourselves. The 17Billion Nairia raised during the private placement, you'll find many many industrialists, senators and assembly men where investors here!). Then forget any probe for the next 8 years. It'll be praises all the way to a group of individuals for turning around an ailing giant, ! |
I'm investing in both DSR and TransCorp, equally. TransCorp is a more recent decision, but I'm not bothered by political risks. I doubt that will affect TransCorp. It's highly unlikely that any goverment in power will go against them. Any ideas when TransCorp IPO is starting? |
until it has been bidded up to a point that it will be profitable for those that took part in the private placementThis is an interesting concept I've always been keen to understand, for example, soon as Union bank was lifted from technical suspension, it was unavailable to buy @ N25 until it got to N32.50. So, TransCorp (or whatever company), could keep some funds aside to 'bid-up' (buy-back) shares, thereby influencing the price in the short term, or is this siege the work of institutional investors? I haven't instructed my broker yet, but I've wired the funds from the UK for this to be bought because @ N6 - 9, in the short term, I think it's better value for money than even DSR |
Thinking about it, those that bought @ N6 and had their money tied down for one year now may not have fared so well, as things currently stand. , giving that during this time, the market has been remarkably bulish, For this reason, I doubt they'll sell for less than N6 at IPO. |
Well, looks like TransCorp listed today for N6.00, as far as I can remember, this was also the price during the Private Placement, so in spite of the acqusitions (Mtel et all), the value has remained more or less static. Therefore, I think it's a good buy. I'll ask my broker to acquire the stocks for me now rather than wait for the IPO, which would almost certainly be higher. |
I've just read an article that TransCorp is listing @ N6 very shortly, also, that the IPO will be at the same N6 per share. Does anyone have confirmation of this, as if it is true (which I doubt), it may be the bargain of the year!! |
The most upsetting thing about IBB is is lack of remorse. This is one man that leads us to believe he did nothing wrong in his eight years of autocratic rule. His arrogance and recalcitrance is irritating. Maybe if he'd accepted some wrong, paid his dues, shown some remorse, some (not me though!!) would have been more tolerant of him. If Duke fails to become president (as I'm begining to conclude he will), then he'll make an extremely good VP. Loyal (unlike the incumbent), dedicated and purposeful. May also be a good time to cut his teeth. But as for IBB, I would divest my last dime and close the books on Nigeria for at least eight years, should this kleptomaniac become president of Nigeria again!! |
Definitely worthwhile, though stock topics are generally covered here on the Business portal, a big benefit of a dedicated portal on the Stock Market is convergence of information. This will not only encourage participation from those with deep knowledge of capital markets, but will provide important stock analysis not ready available to most investors. |
