PoliticsRe: Stop Complaining by joshO: 7:50pm On May 03, 2007
The fight against Atiku and co is the begining of the fight for Liberation. Progresive nations like Singapore had to undergo this paradigm shift in order to develop.

I consider the failure of Atiku at the polls to be a major accomplishment of this administration and all the cost is justified. He had been so vilified and exposed for who he truely. By the time he was cleared to run, he had lost so much momemtum. To be honest, I'm even surprised he got up to 2 million votes and I can only attribute that the the stuffing of ballot boxes in Lagos.

We need to clean our stables by any means necessary and start from there.
BusinessRe: Why Are Nigerians So Obsessed with Money? by joshO: 1:06pm On May 03, 2007
The world loves money, and we all know that money can buy you a measure of respect everywhere.

But I have to admit that there is something amiss in Nigeria. Money is the ONLY think that buys you respect and recognition. In Nigeria, how you make your money is of no consequence as long as you can live in a big house and drive a 4x4. Your neigbours worship you and you're confered with chieftaincy titles and honorary degrees.

At least in the civilised world, people make an effort to conceal their source of wealth in order to gain respectibility. If you're of the criminal type, your wealth will draw more attention from the security services than adoring fans, as you're more likely to be treated with suspicion and indifference.
PoliticsRe: Buhari And Atiku Have Called For A Protest by joshO: 2:31pm On May 02, 2007
Join the demonstration if you must, but be aware that you're only doing so in support of some desperate people's fight for unhindered access to the Presidential fleet of planes, Aso rock, our foreign reserves and their wives junting about as first ladies (Titi particularly) disturbing our peace. Not to talk of their kids (again Atiku) becoming royalties - the prince Harry and William of Nigeria.

That the elections where flawed is not news, but it's time to move forward and plan to improve on future elections.

After all factors considered, Yar'Adua remains the best option of all the three leading candidates, whatever his shortcomings may be.
PoliticsRe: Supreme Court Reinstates Dariye by joshO: 1:50pm On Apr 28, 2007
Most of these funny judgements will only serve to enbolden currupt officials. All it takes now is to hire the best SAN money can buy and head for the supreme court.

This only highlights the urgent need to change our constitution and address all the ambiguities and inconsistencies. That should be a priority.

In civilised societies, the likes of Dariye, Ngige, Tinubu, Atiku would have resigned long ago. In Nigeria they are celebrated by everyone, our courts inclusive. Let's sieze complaining about the failings of our nation. As a matter of fact, let the place burn if it must!!
PoliticsRe: Atiku Back To London Day After Election by joshO: 7:27pm On Apr 27, 2007
You don't need to be based in Nigeria or know Atiku "personally" to see his lack of character and patriotism that comes through.

Yar'Adua went to Germany for a Kidney problem, not a "twisted knee" for christ sake. Atiku has zero faith in our nation. He gets a 1 week vacation as VP and he travels to his Maryland mansion to "rest".  He probarbly holds more meetings in Maryland and London than he does in Nigeria. Yar'Adua hasn't vacationed abroad and hasn't set foot in the US before let alone own a mansion there.

It's a shame that in Nigeria we judge our leaders by the rhetoric they spew out of their mouths and not their deeds.

PDP may have rigged this elections, but the precedent was set when Atiku mastermined the same electoral fraud in 1999 and 2003. Of all the candidates that lined up for this election, Atiku was the least competent by miles.

I don't mind listening to Buhari complain, but Atiku is a fraud, fraud, fraud.

PoliticsRe: Atiku Back To London Day After Election by joshO: 9:22am On Apr 27, 2007
@uleh_j,

That personal attack is uncalled for. I share the same view as Mamajama.

Atiku is no more than a self centered glut who's only interest is to enrich himself (and his cronies) and escape prosecution.

It is a testiment to his overwhelming selfishness that he couldn't even consider any of the medical centres in Nigeria for a checkup. His twisted knee is more precious than the lives of those he aims to lead.

But off course I don't expect the Press will condemn him. Expect no criticisim from Thisday, Sun, theNews as most of these are either beneficiaries of his largeese or seriously compromised in one form or the other.
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo Nominates 9 Ministers, Chief Of Staff by joshO: 4:19pm On Apr 26, 2007
Calm down fellows - the responses we've seen so far show how gullible we are as Nigerians!! This is certainly another unsubstantiated article from the SUN newspaper and the personal viewpoint of Orji Kalu - that over-ambitious and clueless dimwit.

One rule of thumb - Any article in the Sun, Saharareporters and theNews is not worth the paper it's printed on. Let's open our minds.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by joshO: 1:07pm On Apr 26, 2007
@SavvyLanre,

Where are you based?

I informed a friend of mine about the Union Bank IPO last year and he participated. All this time he had been expecting his certificate, but I found the number for the UK office and gave it to him to call. The union bank office turned out to be accross the street from his office in London, he just walked in there and picked it up. They were even asking were he had been all the time!!

Why they don't communicate with people properly beats me.
PoliticsRe: Okotie Speaks On Relationship With Satan by joshO: 4:09pm On Apr 25, 2007
Honestly, I do wonder if some of these Presidential aspirants genuinely believed in their chances of winning,

I'm not convinced Okotie can win a local goverment election if one is called today! As for Utomi, running for governor was not challenging enough, he had to be President!!
Even now, I know all the noise he is making is just to be given an important post in the "sharing of offices" soon to begin.

Well, all man has a right to decide his own destiny (according to Bob marley), but Utomi and his co-travellers should spare us their sour grapes!!
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Charged For Operating 16 Foreign Accounts. by joshO: 3:57pm On Apr 25, 2007
Any elected politician that starts planning to be President early in their reign should be watched very carefully.

Tinubu, Odili, Atiku etc turned out to be the most currupt of the lot because rather then carry out their mandate, they were busy planning for a dubious tomorrow.

I commend OBJ for adopting Yar'Adua. He is one of the very few governors who were content to serve out their mandate to the best of their abilities.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Charged For Operating 16 Foreign Accounts. by joshO: 3:43pm On Apr 25, 2007
Dude, every reaction has it's time. Tinubu has no usefullness for now, so his time has come. For the other's you listed, their time will come after Yar'Adua is well settled in and needs their favours no more.

I have no problem with this. Call this "delayed" rather than "selective" justice.

In the Nigerian context, justice delayed is certainly not justice denied given that no one is ever brought to justice in the first place!!
PoliticsRe: Yardua Should Not Rejoice Yet! Tribunals And Street Protests Ahead! by joshO: 3:05pm On Apr 25, 2007
I never really thought much of Utomi to be honest. He may speak all the grammer in the world, but I doubt his wisdom.

He is now the spokesperson for these bunch of desperdos abi?

His urterances and demands for a 'cancellation' of elections and 'interim goverment' smacks of a desperately sour looser with a small brain!!

PoliticsElection Postponement, A Viable Option? by joshO(op): 5:05pm On Apr 19, 2007
What do you think of the call by some "patriots" for the forthcoming Presidential elections to be postponed. ?

I see this as a dangerous precedent, and Pat Utomi is naive and irresponsible for asking for that at a time such as this. This is simply a call for OBJ to sack all political institutions and declare a state of emergency in Nigeria. I'm sure Buhari recognizes this and has more sense than mouth. Atiku could succumb because he may consider he stands a better chance in a rescheduled election.

The US has warned against it and I think it potends great dangers for us as a nation if it is carried through.

Do you see this as a viable option?
PoliticsRe: Greedy Atiku. Why Can't He Step Down? by joshO: 10:01pm On Apr 18, 2007
@dayokanu
As at 2003 Atiku was more popular in Nigeria than OBJ almost all the governors are his friend that was why most governors supported Atiku against OBJ. In the Senate Atiku is very popular ever wonder why he has not been impeached ith all the allegations OBJ is dangling round his neck every week. Reverse the trend for just a day make Atiku president for 3 days and let him propose to the senate to impeach OBJ I am sure OBJ wont last that day in the senate
Are you for real?? That Atiku is this popular in the senate is the more reason you should be wary. No less than 80% of the senate is currupt which no doubt explains their sympathy for him in his 'travails' with that "Monster" that wants to put sand in their garri. That "Monster" in Aso rock that allowed EFCC start something that may soon catch up with them. You think they are not scared, worried by where all that will end. Many of them have benefitted from Atiku's  'generosity' one way or another. He spent the first 4 years of this administration perpetuating himself in office through dealings with the senate and other 'big men' in Nigeria. You think members of the senate are interested in changing the status quo of chop till I die? Why do you think the budget got passed early this year? You think they are happy with that? Please let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Even Babangida is more popular in the senate than OBJ and that's because these men know how to play the politics of power, rather then do what it takes to change our nation. I continiously maintain that anyone who eventualy changes Nigeria should prepare to be unpopular, especially in the Senate!! Anyone who changes Nigeria will be he that the movers and shakers dislike and majority of the press vilifies. If you continue to form your opinion from the front pages of the Sun, theNews, thisDay newspapers then any genuine leader will never get your support.

Don't be deceived. Atiku is the worst possible choice of all the presidential candidates. You need to get close to him and his confidants to understand their desperate, power hungry mentality. You can hate OBJ all you like, but don't let this hate drive you into 'endorsing' a pilfering, conniving and greedy monster like Atiku.
PoliticsRe: Supreme Court rules that Atiku (and others) cannot be disqualified by INEC by joshO: 3:40pm On Apr 16, 2007
This is not such bad news afterall, He will be defeated comprehensively and find out the hard way that he's not all that afterall. Where does he expect to defeat the PDP? He'll probarbly only win Lagos due to Asiwaju's influence.

My only concern is that he'll continue his  noise making after the elections. Being the desperate man that he is, he will complain the he was 'robbed' of his mandate.

We're all aware that the stability of Nigeria is relegated to the background by his blind ambition.

PoliticsRe: Breaking News:action Congress Sweeps Lagos: Fashola Wins by joshO: 4:37pm On Apr 15, 2007
Thenews is not a credible source PULEEEZZZ. It's controlled by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Whilst I believe that the AC would win Lagos and that Fashola as an individual is more credible than Koro and therefore has my support, the tone of reporting by thenews is biased, prejudiced.

It triumphantly reports that Lagos has been won by AC, whilst stating that INEC has "given" Ekiki to PDP (whatever that means).
PoliticsRe: What If War Erupts In My Nigeria? by joshO: 9:12pm On Apr 13, 2007
War, ? Fat chance. The same people that couldn't stand up to Sani Abach in his hey day now want to die for who?, A few desperately ambitious politicians running their mouths or their sponsored miscreants running helter skelter does not constitute organized action or revolt for that matter,

Nigerians love their lives too much. Send two battallions of soldiers from second mechanized brigade and they'll all crawl back underneath the bridge they belong.

And for the soldiers confined to the barracks for so long, it'll be a welcome opportunity for target practice!!
PoliticsRe: Chris Uba Arrested By Security Agents by joshO: 7:32pm On Apr 13, 2007
This is the problem with Nigeria, what makes you think it's PDP that have kidnapped him? With the kind of company these people keep, it's hard to say who may be cross with them. It's so easy for people to forment trouble in this country. A clever desperado could kidnap Atiku or Ngige today just to forment trouble, and guess who will be blamed?!!
InvestmentRe: First Bank's 100 Billion Naira Share Offer by joshO: 4:10pm On Apr 13, 2007
The other plus for First Bank is that you're likely to get all that you apply for. There's N100 Billion is no small change. Also I expect a much quicker capital appreciation for First Bank as the financial year ends soon. I think N33 is a good deal. See no reason why it should not go for N50 in 5 - 6 months time.
PoliticsRe: President Obasanjo's Tenure: A Complete Failure? by joshO: 2:00pm On Apr 13, 2007
OBJ has performed commendably, much more than all those before him. Failure of certain policies there are, but that hardly qualifies him as a TOTAL FAILURE.

The biggest issue in Nigeria today is curruption. As long as this persist, we're all wasting our time. He was bold enough to introduces Ribadu to fight this scourge with both conventional and unconventional methods given that the problem has sunk to new depts.  But allas,  people like you complain it's selective because Atiku and his likes are fingered.

I quote a popular phrase from a former President of Singapore, Le Kwan Yew

"More than economics, more than politics, a nation?s culture will determine its fate. So says the"

Despite all the outcry, Le Kwan did all that was necessary, including throwing scores of people in jail and even summary hangings, in order to create a new culture. He dealt squarely with the press (and their entrenched currupt and conniving habits).  Today we all know how progressive and developed singapore is as a nation.

Rawlings did the same and Ghana is all the better today. If it takes a "crude" man to blast the decay from our system once and for all by any means necessary, so be it. I don't see any innocent people being unfairly persecuted.
InvestmentRe: Transcorp Po Finally Opens At 7.50! Opinions? by joshO: 4:26pm On Apr 12, 2007
Poor show, , that the NSE, with it's critical oversight functions, can lift technical suspension on a company as visible as transcorp in error is a a big surprise.

I see poor management and get the feeling of internal wrangling within transcorp. I bet the likes of Dangote, BGL, Otedola with their significant holdings in the company will be less than impressed with these developments, assuming they are not the ones driving it in the first place.

PoliticsRe: Help Me Know Atiku (the Vp) by joshO: 2:44pm On Apr 11, 2007
Brief profile below,

Atiku is one of the biggest crooks and manipulators of our time. He is a thief seeking to rule over Nigeria, as if the money he has stolen isn't enough for him. He is a VP that was allowed to run the country for so long during the first term of this goverment that he now thinks it's his birthright to be President of Nigeria.

Finally, he is currently the No2 citizen, but likely to end up as the number 1 citizen of Kirikiri.
PoliticsRe: Eight Years Old Democracy, Water, Road, Light, How Well by joshO: 1:26pm On Apr 11, 2007
In Nigeria you're damed if you do and damed if you don't. The decay in Nigeria runs so deep, that even if a leader where to confront the system, he'll be stepping on so many toes that he'll soon be branded selective, or even set-up. The system in it's current form is designed to fail.

The most currupt people control our country - the judiciary, senate etc, , and will do all that they can to protect their interest. The currupt attitude of the Nigerian press does not help matters at all.

It's convenient to blame the current administration. Go back and check what Rawlings, the President of Singapore in the 70's and the current military leaders in Bangladesh are doing or have done to clean up the system. The truth is that, law or not, many of our leading figures need to be thrown in jail for Nigeria to progress, otherwise we're doomed.
InvestmentRe: Transcorp Po Finally Opens At 7.50! Opinions? by joshO: 6:09pm On Apr 10, 2007
TransCorp may be having problems now, but I won't rule anything out for the future. Say a company like Mubadala or Alheri engineering buys into TransCorp, you may not find the shares to buy until it touches 30, Remember Benue Cement,
InvestmentRe: Transcorp Po Finally Opens At 7.50! Opinions? by joshO: 5:18pm On Apr 10, 2007
I'm still sympathetic to Transcorp, though I have not yet invested (but will). It is a really good idea, but I guess the negative stories sorrounding it has not helped at all. Also, if this story is true (I can imagine TransCorp will dispute this shortly), then I'll be dissapointed in the management of TransCorp, that they have let it come to this.

This will certainly impact investor confidence and we can expect significant loss of value in the coming days. The  share price may soon level at 3 naira if drastic action is not taken to address this decline. But as that is unlikely to happen given that cash is currently in short supply, N3 is exactly the point when I'll be buying as much as I can,  wink

@DewDrop, you're so cute! Abeg don't cry oo! cool
PoliticsRe: Breaking News! - Inec Has Power To Disqualify Candidates by joshO: 9:42am On Apr 04, 2007
I've stated this before and repeat it here, Atiku's will certainly be consumed by his desperate, blind over-ambition. He has an annoying fixation on the Presidency. He will soon end up in the stomach of the lion.
