the arrest of al-barrawi is a milestone in blocking the expansion of splinter organs of bh after the power tussle that heralded ansaru and bh . albarwai has had mainly a strong relationship with aqim and has had virtually no contact with bh over time due to that power tussle else how can one explain the immediate death of ansaru as a group as quickly as it emerged. the icing on the cake would be the eventual arrest of manman nur which would eventually ease up the current onslaught faced by Cameroon. As he handles the external operations of the group there.

just so you known it. Khalid al barawi is actually Chadian with a twitch of Nigerian blood his relationship vwith the shura tribe good bless NA viva nigeria

We could generate a whooping 10,000 megawatts from nuclear power plant alone, coupled with our hydro and solar system, that might be raised to at least 20,000 megawatts if properly implemented.
The summit benefits Nigerian in all sphere,as earlier stated, President Obama is leading the team to commence full operation in Nigeria.
#PMB travels isn't in futility
If you do a maths of all the power plants in Nigeria, its installed capacity is nearly 15,000MW the right question is; why don't we get it?
The Transmission infrastructure in Nigeria cannot transmit beyond 4,800MW irrespective of what you generate, so let us for the sake of arguement believe Buhari will inject 10,000MW (may God assist your logic to quantify that figure in monetary terms). which transmission is gonna convey it?

Since the transmission issue affects already existing Hydro, Gas turbine and Nuclear, where is the wisdom in chasing Nuclear without fixing transmission? Again, if we deal with gas line vandalism, we have close to 15kMW, then fix transmission to take it round, only then are we gonna be sure whether or not we need any nuclear source.

While gloating over an ambitious and dangerous infrastructure, remember Chernobyl and Fukushima.

ok, i only skimmed through earlier. i was somewhat engaged. The NPT is not against using nuclear energy for electricity purposes, and i dont think there can be trust issues like we had in iran for reasons i highlighted in my earlier post. The NPT is a treaty against development of nuclear weapons, which is different from using nuclear energy for electric power production. When we get to that bridge we will cross it.
The NPT is for proliferation of "Nuclear materials" with emphasis on Nuclear weapons!! , what you need nuclear materials for matter less to the regulators who really do not want you to have access to those materials.
you are right, the emphasis is on nuclear weapons however the technology and nuclear materials clause will work against us.

A government is not a gambling store where you throw in guess works because the lives and welfare of over 170m people depend on those policies, it is not a matter of when we get to the bridge, we should have a panoramic understanding of what we are getting ourselves in and its cost implication, do you have any idea how much a nuclear plant cost? operating license any guess?

As to IAEA not putting a good word for us because of what occured in India, pakistan and iran. I feel you have to put in to consideration the tensions and fiesty political relationships india had with some of its countries it shared borders with, , bangladesh, pakistan, e.t.c e.g the kasmir conflict(india pakistani war) that led to loss of lives . Iran and iraq conflicts e.t.c in such cases, possession of nuclear instrument by one is a threat on the other. Nigeria's case is relatively different.

Unfortunately, this Forum is on the loose. Hardly do comments on any thread make sense.

I believe the real problem is with the people and not the leaders. I read someone say, we don't know who we are or what we want. I agree! There's a lot of shallow analysis in the polity. People are impatient, quick to flow with emotional lines than understand the real stuff.

Since when did we not know that a process of rebuilding comes with pain and hardships worsened by falling commodity prices? Who doesn't know that the darkest period is before dawn? Who is ignorant that it's easier to destroy, to loot, to share bounties, to give fish than it is to build, to restore, to accumulate and to teach how to fish? We were warned that 2016 will be a harder year for all oil exporting countries (PMB or GEJ)...check out Venezuela and the inflation rate going on there now (it's over 100%). One of the reasons is because their fuel was the most-subsidized for citizens...perhaps to politically appease them (You can't eat your cake and have it!).

There are a lot of problems with Nigeria and with the way we chose our leaders and there are many more critics for those sets of problems. But, who will deal with the problem of the people? Who will criticise the way we train followers, the way we educate the people, the way we build citizens of a noble country?
You expect people who are sound to be hanging around kiddies playground? they just read the stories and flip the comments stage, Seun has murdered Nairaland with this proliferation of nincompoops.
People say irrelevant things on a thread and he just allows any !diot to be roaming across board, nobody has made any nuclear related comment after 4 pages, damn!!
Some come on threads to be discussing their family issues.

Why the wailing zombies will continue to do what they know how to do best, Mr. President will forge ahead and get the job done.

two weeks ago, the director general of IAEA International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA was in aso rock, nigeria.
His visit is not a big deal, first IAEA will be notified, second step, they will come to develop modalities for inspection and licence, next, your president will go and seek for a licence (guess that is what buhari went for or in part of the licence process), then the IAEA inspection proper, it is the IAEA's recommendation that will determine whether Nigeria will be granted such licence.

Now this is the reality on ground.

These guys are not s!lly, after wasting resources and paying for all that need to be paid for, IAEA will NEVER put in a good word for us, Just like, India, Pakistan, Iran etc. These countries went ahead in defiance but the consequence wasn't so palatable.

India; India insisted it needed it for healthcare and electricity despite having a very strong case in the IAEA because they have a huge population and they lack the so called Secondary options for electricity generation. Another thing that worked for India is the advantage of having naturally occurring radioactive materials which the west was depending on, its like asking Nigeria to sell you oil but Nigeria will not be allowed to utilize it. India was not a signatory to the NPT hence not even the west has a legal right to ask India not to develop nuclear capability under international laws.

Few decades after that move, India built the 4th best military in the world, the question is; why will India want to amass such military capability just to have access to Nuclear energy? The answer is simple, they understand that the move made them a bulls eye in the comity of nations hence the improvement in military capability to be able to defend themselves, After the 1998 tests, India was sanctioned so badly that they nearly became a pariah state, let me ask, who designs a foreign policy that attracts war to herself? be the Judge!!

Pakistan claimed that since India was allowed to have, India has become a threat to them, exploiting the relationship between president clinton and Al Musharraf at the time, the west secretly helped Pakistan to develop nuclear capability to keep India in check!!

Iran; the case of Iran is still very fresh and the sanctions that ensued.

Nigeria is a signatory to the NPT, Pelindaba treaty and CTBT all these will work against us at the licence acquisition stage, they may drag us into a long international legal battle for generations to come.

The issue of security will work against us, Nigeria has not been able to contain Boko haram effectively hence they may misinterpret it as handing nuclear materials to terrorists.

Nuclear technology, containment, source of nuclear materials and responsive agencies are practically non existent in Nigeria hence they will understand how daunting a challenge it poses.

On the flip side, I think Buhari's sincerity of purpose is working against us this time a polemic arguement from a lettered Fashola and Dr chidi Anukam will be overwhelmingly convincing for a president that wants the best for his country, however, what that board room lacks is a foreign affairs minister who knows his onions, who will throw in a counter polemic arguement just like a Fashola will do from the international point of view.

Mr President may just be wasting his time.
Politics › Re: US To Press Nigeria To Devalue Naira - Reuters by jpphilips(m):
19naia:
I am not a country myself -but in West Africa alone, Nigeria has significant export capacity. I travelled by road from Nigeria through west Africa all the way to Ivory coast. I saw long lines of Dangote cement trucks lined up at the borders and dangote has been able to consistently lower the price of a bag of cement despite ongoing inflation and drop of naira value, because it helps his over all sales and exports whch enhances his profit and product exposure for future growth. Thats a sure sign that Nigeria made cement is getting to other countries in Africa.

I was wandering streets buying products in Benin republic and saw products that were made in Nigeria or were imported to Nigeria where they were then sold to Benin republic. I noticed the Nigerian sourced products there were mostly higher priced than the average things people there buy. They have a lower cost of living there than in Nigeria and also lower income on average. Their currency value is nearly 600cfa to $1.
Imagine if the naira were devalued, many of the products exported to Benin would become more affordable to benin people if their own currency doesnt devalue along side the naira.
Benin is just one simple example, there are many other countries in Africa. I really think there is more money to be made exporting to other african Nations from Nigeria rather than many Nigerian's pathological affinity to ignore africa and imagine equity with and compare to the countries commanding the £,€ and $.
Equity in Africa is where Nigeria should begin. Compare the Naira to fellow African Nations and there is something to be proud of. 600cfa to $1 is what they have in Benin, togo, and Ivory coast. Ghana cedi is artificial redenomination of a currency that was being handled in the milllions for average transactions, so thats why it rates less than 4 cedi to $1 today.
Nigeria Economy compares well in Africa and there is a lot more Nigeria can do to fill Africa's needs and that will grow Nigerias Economy beyond the already giant status.
Even export of simple produce and common things that simple people use. The eagerness to ignore Africa and try to rank the Naira along side USA $ is a pathological issue related to what makes people spend all their money in USA and UK.

"Realistic" is the word and the reality is that Nigeria is in Africa and has an average standard of living and productivity among African nations. But Nigeria is the economic Giant for now. Oil expansion is happening in Ghana and other parts of west Africa and pipelines are going in across Ivory coast and those link to Ghana and the oil drilling going on offshore near the border of the two nations.
Nigeria struggles with electricity and piped potable water while these are not such a struggle in Ivory coast, ghana, togo and benin republic.
Nigeria cant even keep the most basic ammenities supplied to a standard similar to a meager country like Benin republic but it wants a currency to rank equitably with the US$ ?? The US is legally bound to supply water and electricity to all citizens at a reasonable price and failure to supply after contract and payment is grounds for law suits that will award payments of damages for food spoiled in the fridge, pain and suffering from no air conditioning, lost wages from no lights or computer or Wifi signal e.c.t. Even the roads, i met a woman among those who collected sum total of $138 million from the city of New york for damages and injuries caused by potholes and other aspects of bad roads there. All these things are factored into the ranking of a Nation's value which backs the value of its currency.
Raise the value of nigerias productivity and functionality as a good investment atmosphere and the currency value will follow. Even a low value currency can benefit by making nigeria products more affordable to neighbour African countries. Japan ranks in the top 5 economies in the world but its currency doesnt even rank as equal to the dollar as Honduras which is poorer than Nigeria.

Honduras lempira is 22.6 to $1 today and it is poorer than Nigeria.
Japanese Yen is 112 to $1 and it is likely number 4 richest nation on earth with a higher standard of living than the number 2 richest nation on earth and possibly higher standard of living than the number 1 richest nation USA.
Japan may in fact be number 3 richest if i am mistaken about Germany ranking number 3.

Japan keeps their currency value low to make it easier to sell exports around the world and it helps them rank veryhigh in economy and wealth. China does the same but Japan balances the devaluation by keeping salaries and domestic prices equitable to other well developed nations. In fact, Japan prices are very high compared to the aberage in USA.
I live comfortable in USA but will be un able to cope at a basic level with the same income in Japan.

Nigeria has production and room to expand it to allow export. A currency devaluation will only add to Nigeiras export growth. The strain will be in Nigeria's import heavy sector and it is pain that must be endured sooner or later. The Later option will only lead to the further devaluation of the Naira any way and strain the i pot sector any way. Its better to approach it realistically, endure the pain and adjust for the right path of productivity increase and export expansion within Africa.

Oil refinery products are coming soon and i am sure will follow the path of Dangote cement across the borders into west african nations and elsewhere in Africa.
You just spoke like a petty Alaba trader.

Nigeria will benefit in terms of selling more exports if its currency is weak. The focus on production is alive and should be pushed further and the currency should be allowed to settle to a realistc rate relative to the state of the economy. Eventually, local production finding it's way to export will strengthen the economy and that will in turn bring the Naira back to strength. Dont forget where a weakness in one area can be a strength in another area.

– Babatunde Fashola has secured the release of 300,000 electricity meters belonging to PHCN

– The minister of power, works and housing says the meters were locked up in a warehouse due to a legal battle

– Fashola says he hopes the large volume of meters would be used effectively Discos

Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, has disclosed that he has secured the release of about 300,000 electricity meters which belonged to defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) but were locked up in a warehouse because of a lingering legal case against the contract for their procurement.

According to The Indpendent, Fashola made the disclosure in a YouTube question and answer webinar in Abuja on Monday, March 28.

Fashola says he has ensured the release of 300,000 meters to help boost power supply.

The minister said he hopes that the large volume of meters would be put to good use by the electricity distribution companies (Discos) in the country.

He explained that the contract for the procurement of the meters was awarded by PHCN in 2003 but that legal actions instituted by parties in the contract had stalled their eventual deployment to homes in the 11 electricity distribution networks since then.

According to him, that case had been settled out court and alternative settlement reached by the parties. He said this would ensure that the warehouse where the meters are kept would be opened and they deployed.

In the same vein, the Federal Government has announced plans to add 2,260 megawatts to the national grid with the approval of 14 solar projects.

Fashola said during a meeting with French minister of environment and power, Mrs S Royal at the conference room of the ministry in Abuja, that the project would soon commence as the financial agreement has already been approved.

First off, you actually dont sound like someone who will be good in business, so do not ask me about my class, I am not a student, I am a successful business man. Business works in transparency. You can not fix the price of goods and not be mindful of competition as well as the twin pillars of demand and supply. It sounds great to say value of dollar in Nigeria is 199 naira, but the question is, what determines that value you place of dollar in your currency, is it determined by the standard economic yardstick ? That is what Kachikwu meant when he said he is not a miracle worker. He can only work with fact and figures.
Kachikwu does not discuss monetary policies, if he said that, he must have spoken in a different context, you claimed to be a businessman yet we discuss Naira and the best example that comes to your mind is "goods", Naira is way beyond "goods",though traded, Naira is not a commodity, apple and oranges not mix, the best I can give you is a Trader not a businessman, You are definitely far from being one.

While I do not support devaluation of Naira is simple. I do not want the lazy Presidency fixing the value of naira lower than the natural value. Allow the basic economic parameters of demand and supply and inflation to determine your fx rates so the entire world can see your transparency and rate you accordingly. Are we too afraid to face the collapse ? Yes, we have failed and we are a failed nation, we must accept that fact and then fashion out best strategy to crawl out of the valley. We cant hide it for ever, as it was in Greece and Brazil, needless to mention Zimbabwe, so it is here, but we must be transparent, we must accept criticism and we must allow States not Federal Government to be the Economic Centers. Federal Government is a parasite, a bully and a big failure.
Let me be sure i am not wasting my time, what are the two types of currencies and why did Nigeria choose to fix the naira?
The answers will determine if you are worth my 17:59

My opening line stated that I do not support devaluation, but I prefer if the CBN will allow Naira to assume its natural value based on laws of demand and supply of forex.

We must face the fact, if the economy has collapsed, it has collapsed and we must all face the effects so we can make the decision to fashion out best solution. At the moment we are less than a third world country, so why are we afraid of facing our reality so we can learn new strategies in governance ? The 36 States dependence on Abuja for allocation is what is killing the country, we either solve it now, or it will dissolve us all.
There is no fact to face , you are speaking from both compases of your mouth, you do not support devaluation, so do I, but you want naira to float on demand and supply forces? don't you realize that your proposal is worse than devaluation, what class are you self? make I no discuss economics with Dbanj or Raskimono.

I do not support devaluation of Naira, but I support allowing the value of the Naira to be defined by the Economics laws; The Law of Demand and Supply. So we can predict the economy better. Without prediction, we cant really have foreign direct investments. No one invests in a country that the government can chose to fix value of currency and mar your profits. Fixing the price rate of your currency means we are holding on a false value of the Naira, even when the black market has already dictated the tune for local consumers. The false value of naira fixed by CBN is hurting imports and driving prices high due to unavailability of local alternatives to our everyday consumables.

Nigeria has a choice, but we are not taking charge of the situation, we still put Property lawyer as Minister of Power, Works and Housing and we still have an illiterate without knowledge of hydrocarbon market, drilling and mining as Minister of Petroleum and the same fellow is President. Its so sad.
Your currency has no strong backing, it can not compete with the demand and supply forces, you have a $500b import economy, with currency backing of less than $55.2m daily, there is a tilt in the balance of trade already and you are asking Naira to be determined by demand and supply? Do the maths bro, if you try that, Naira will disappear as a currency

Ofcourse, no one feels happy about losing your currency, its sad, but when the system of government is 100% typical of models that the economy must recess, then you can only hold it for so long. It will eventually collapse.

We are treating symptoms and the cause here getting worse. The cause of the fall of naira is mono-economy; depending on a single export as primary source of capital gains. The solution is electricity provision, tax waiver for importation of machinery for manufacturing and increase local production of goods, which actually cant be done with diesel generators without driving the cost of production and products up, then inflation sets in.

Now, since our President has totally messed up the energy sector, what drastic measure should we take ?

Simple: Radical approach is the answer; Stop giving States Allocation. Yes, stop giving also means stop taking from states. States should exploit their resources and manage their infrastructures and build their power plants, while paying 40% taxes on oil/gas, solid minerals to Federal Government. States should establish their police and clinics and schools.

Federal Government is supposed to be a supervisor of States, not the God of States.

Except we change the governing structure, we must go down, real down.
How is FG abdicating its responsibilities solve the problem? If FG can not afford to exploit alternative avenues for forex earning, what makes you think the states can?
If we go by your advise, in the first month, all Nigerian states will collapse.

Writer made some valid points but I do not agree with his passing the bulk antics, if the FG should clean up their area however little, it will serve as a yardstick to measure the performance of states.
I agree that people criticizing a government that is yet to implement a single budget are Nincompoops.

read well before u reply. I did say that Germany paid enormously for the holocaust and WW 11 and the subsequent prosperity was after some atonement and reparations . After the holocaust they lost their respect and after the second world war they lost global influence. Especially not being a parmanent member of the UN security council
.

You are still rambling absent facts, in what way did Germany pay for Holocaust? In what way did Germany pay for world war 2?

What empirical evidence do you have to support that? You make assumptions and pass it off as a fact then gloat over it as if you have a point .
Going by your warped logic, Japan lost to the US in the 2nd world war because they committed some Holocaust too? Argentina lost to the British in the Falkland war because they committed Holocaust i guess?
Perhaps IPOB should have won Nigeria because Nigeria committed genocide abi?
Infantile reasoning.

After the second world war Germany lost their global influence because they were defeated nothing more!! When you lose in battle you are fvcked, it happens everytime & everywhere only an uneducated Nigerian youth doesn't know that.

UN security council permanent seat for Germany? Based on what? Your own usual hallucination?
Perhaps you just googled that part and you chipped it in to sound intelligent abi?
Did Germany tell you that they want a sit there? You just exposed yourself that you have no idea what that council is about except for a quick Google search you just did.

You continue making aimless assumptions, Let me educate you, not that you deserve it anyways,
first, there was no security council before Germany was defeated hence Germany can not wish for something that does not exist except in your own imagination.

Secondly, after the defeat of Germany, the permanent members of the Security council are victors of the second world war rightly put "Association of people who defeated Germany " why would Germany wish to be there? To celebrate his own defeat? Who does that? Is that how you reason?

German could have spoken in Africa just like English and French if not for their loss
after WW11 younger Germans expressed remorse for the holocaust. The holocaust is taught in German schools even from nusery school, unlike Nigeria who banned History in East and renamed monuments which portrayed historical truth. Younger Germans know the fore fathers were wrong. Germany also paid reparations amounting to billions of Euros to survivors and today stands out as one of the most liberal nations under mekel
its part of the characters Nigerians have. Not eager to accept truth. Today Germany is the biggest economy and most advanced country in europe. Are they accepting muslim migrants also as a 'consequence of defeat'?
Even Us respect them.
So teaching Holocaust in Nursery school amounts to Atonement? Is that how you reason? look up that word in the dictionary if you have one.
Germany was forced to pay reparations by Allied powers who defeated them not out of goodwill, I don't care how slow you are to learning, I will not remind you that again.
Perhaps you just googled WW2 to be making noise here, don't you know that Germany was equally forced to pay reparations after their WW1 defeat? Have you heard of "treaty of Versailles"? I doubt, perhaps it wasn't taught at the free community school you graduated from.

Tell us you just read CNN news bar to know Germany took in refugees as if your TV didn't show you poorer nations like Greece who took overwhelming number of refugees?
What relevance does taking in refugees have here? Are you an aspiring refugee?
Anyways, it might interest you to note that after taking in those refugees, Merkel's conservative party just lost most of their seats in Parliament, guess the younger German people have spoken through the ballot. Angela Marckel is not sure of becoming the next Chancellor, what does that tell you? Even Charity has to be politically correct to be appreciated, I suppose your Heroic Germany has indicted you on political
"Correctness", that takes us back to the fundamental difference between OBJ and Aguiyi Ironsi. Obj understood that harmony and unity in diversity thrives on justice and trust hence he was able to avert a would be Murtala bloodshed unlike Ironsi who left his common sense in Abia state.

I also provided reasons to show that the coup didnt cause the pogrom. The coup can only result to counter coup. No real human with brain will justify killing of women and children who have no business with coupist. Only NIGERIANS like u have that mindset
Wrap your face and emotions in sentiments for all I care, without the coup, there will be no counter coup that degenerated to a pogrom, that is common sense, though I don't expect you to string it together, Can you even fathom a situation where a Major killed a prime Minister? a lieutenant Killing a General? The death of Ironsi means no Head of State, it was total chaos, who could have controlled the situation when the HOS was tied to a Landrover?
No matter how well the counter coup was planned it was bound to spill to the streets and that was exactly what happened, the HOS is in command of Army, Navy, Airforce, Police, Immigration etc, you tie him to a land rover and expect the carnage not to spill?
Not mentioning the complacency or rather complicity of the then State police.
where are thy brain? Worse still, the same people who killed the HOS are the same people who took control of governance do you expect the killings to end?
Thank God for Ojukwu/Nkrumah who extracted a commitment of peace from the new HOS, IG of Police, all the premiers at the Aburi conference. You need to understand that the pogrom was a function of a breakdown of law and order as a result of the caliber of people who were assassinated, they held positions of authority and influence. There was power vacuum, everybody was doing as he or she likes, are you aware that Nigerians first heard of Ironsi's death when all the parties returned from Ghana, so who was piloting the affairs of the nation hitherto?

If you still can't connect the Pogrom with the coup, then you are dumb beyond help.

I brought cause and effect to your notice does not imply I support it, only an individual with the IQ of a rabbit will make such an obnoxious connection.
No be Nigerian youth again? I can't be surprised.

stop putting genocide side by side with coup in ur vain attemp to downplay its gravity
Like I said above, not everyone has the capacity to draw realistic parallels. Why you study history is to know and apply cause and effect.
There are things you don't start not because you can not but you can never predict the outcome.
That is where wisdom and history play a vital role.

If Kaduna Nzeogwu had the inkling that his boy scout Movement of January 7th 1966 will take so many lives including his own, im sure that the wisdom in him would have advised better.
If Japan knew Pearl Harbour attack would amount to perpetual military slavery, I believe they would have allowed wisdom to prevail.
If Napoleon Bonaparte knew that waterloo would be his last, he may as well allowed the third realm to continue and jettison the whole revolution idea.

Let me remind you that OBJ again in 2002 averted another disaster, before the ICJ ruling in favour of Cameroon on the Sovereignty of Bakassi Peninsular, Abacha hitherto stationed Nigerian army on the disputed region as a show of force, towards the first tenure of OBJ, he realized that the show of force has caught the interest of France who was on the side of Cameroon.
Do you think that OBJ will not wish to maintain Abacha's show of force being militarily superior to Cameroon? but he didn't do that because he was smart enough to see the big picture.
War with cameroon at that time was tantamount to a proxy war with France, the moment the ICJ judgement came, he quickly handed over the peninsular, I can tell you without mincing words that OBJ remains one of the smartest leaders Nigeria has ever produced, only if he added sincerity of purpose to his persona, he would have been the finest. That tacit withdrawal saved a lot of lives.

People like us drum history into the thick skulls of people like you not because we support evil but because we
See this present generation towing the same old path of ignominy.

but God is already punishing ur beloved pit of lies called Nigeria. U have two of five deadliest terror groups in the world. There is acute poverty, inflation, unemployment, extrajudicial killings, reccession and no hope for the future. Can you mention one country in the world that is not in a state of war where a Nigerian will not do better if he settles there. Nigeria is the worst country in the world.
Are you not a Nigerian in Nigeria, Or your relatives are not in Nigeria? Wake up!!
Pray Trump does not emerge the next POTUS, most of you Aliens in the US will sing a new song.

trash! Was kumuyi harmed?
IPOBeans brain Imagine the s!lly question? have you thought of the consequences of harming someone like Kumuyi?
If Nnamdi Kanu had any history, it would never cross his mind to give such an order.
Obasanjo has led the way in conflict resolution, you either follow or face the perennial consequence. You are too shallow to deserve my response, Find yourself another c0ck mate, Easter break is over!!
