We'll only have free and fair elections when the crude oil dries up and government have to work to generate revenue. The black man naturally hates work so once there's no money no one will vie for elections in Nigeria again.
You dont get it do you? people in government will never work to earn anything if oil dries up, they tax the people to continue in their profligacy.
If a thug like Wike tax you, what are your options ?

who stopped him when Obiakpor boys were confiscating people's wares in the market as an LGA chairman?

Even Northerners knew "Obiakpor" as a notorious word, little did they know that Obiakpor is a local government with touts in the power corridor.

just like every mistake we do in politics we ignore substance and vote criminals then complain or run away, I pray Donald Trump becomes the next POTUS let me see who will run to America when wike releases his instruments of governance.

Same way it did for Brazil and Nigeria in the past. When you have enuf food on your table you can sell the excess to nations who don't farm either as raw material or as finished product like the tomatoes we import from China. If things gets rough you starve your customers to feed yourself first. It is called food security.
Which produce do you intend to export and where?

the Problem u subtly failed to acknowlege about your argument is that it involve dependence on export proceeds. Agriculture helps secure you table with food. And can also generate forex. How will agriculture generate forex for you?

Pathetic. Pathetic indeed.

Most comments on this thread make a f00l of Nigerian youths.

Just think of it.

What is 'diversification'? what does of mean in the context of Nigeria's economy?

Does it meat jettisoning what you have (in this case oil and gas), while embracing what you don't have (like the proverbial, and improperly defined, agriculture; mining, etc) ?

To understand 'diversification', all you need is to define it. Any dictionary should provide such definition. Diversification is simply the act of introducing a variety (in our case, in investments, and production of goods and services); instead of investing mainly in the oil and gas. it does not connote zero investment in oil and gas and 100% investment in other sectors. Remember that Nigeria already has huge investments in oil and gas to leverage on. After all have you ever heard that a bird at hand is worth two in the air?

The concern on timing for investment in oil and gas exploration in Nigeria now is highly misplaced and shows ineptitude of the highest order, if not outright mischief. Just think of it, the crude oil being produced Nigeria today (which was sold as high as $146 in the recent past), at what price was crude oil when the exploration was done? The exploration was undertaken in the 80s and early 90s (oil exploration and production is a long gestation investment) when crude oil was at its lowest around $9 - $14. This is a good time to invest when the price is low and the cost of exploration is also low. When the price rises, the cost of exploration will be high and making the investment decision will become more difficult. it makes economic sense.

Finally is the money for this so-called frontier exploration in the budget? this i strongly doubt. If it is there, someone should please show, not tell me. Which means as usual, government only facilitates these activities, and does not really put in tax payers' money directly into it. Mostly, the investors put in their heard-earned hard currency and takes all the risks in anticipation of commercial hydrocarbon discoveries that would permit them to recover their money in a long time in the future.
While you think Nigerians are f00ls, your comment is an insult to dumb people, that bold sentence is the most stupid thing I have heard this year.
invest in oil exploration when crude price is low, you think it is the stock market? dumb squared!

If you're as an educated "Southerner" can spew this thrash then I believe your education is nothing but mere paper qualifications. How do you diversify when there is no money to do diversification, and do you want an IMF or WB loans that'll give stringent conditions that will hurt the populace and enrich the cabals? Oil will still be an essential commodity for the next 100years and the government needs to find more reserves to replace the depleted reserves since oil is not a renewable product. South Sudan said Sudan were the cause of their problems because of oil, but we all can see that's not the case after South Sudan decided to separate and the rest is known to those who reflect
I don't see much knowledge in your post either, no country can replace depleted oil reserves, the best you can do is a workover to boost output levels. The best ways to make more money in this current times are an investment in downstream or exploration of new reserves, the former is very attractive but capital intensive while the later is capital intensive and unattractive to investors who are torn between investing huge to reap little.

Mr president's decision to adopt the later is not a bad idea completely, where I have a concern is the region where this exploration is made. It can not be in our national interest, it seems to me like an extension of North vs South bickering, either ways, it is not in our interest as a nation especially now that we are strapped to economic uncertainties.

I know Kachikwu is desperate to strike the 2.8mbbl mark but the lake Chad basin? This area has been marked by the parent Al Qaeda as a caliphate of AQIM and they have been fighting relentlessly to reclaim it, it is worthy to note that we are making progress in the fight against insurgency but just like the name, it is an unconventional warfare, when they are emboldened they attack your formations, when you degrade them, they "hit and run", that can be a tough challenge even for the best military in the world.

The US did not completely neutralize the Taliban despite several years of trying with the best military toys in the world. The point here is that Boko haram will forever live with us, they will be degraded but can not be eliminated because they sustain their tempo from an ideological mat.

handing them an oil field will not only be a mistake, it will give them an economic reason to double their efforts, Buhari's handlers should quickly go and read why ISIS within 3 months of insurgence took strategic cities like Takrit, Mosul and Aleppo.

Even if we subdue the insurgency part, the cost of security alone will push high the cost of oil, a nearly calm Niger delta saw a production cost of nearly $30 from $11/bbl, extrapolate what security cost for the lake chad basin will amount to as production cost?
Oil won't climb past $50 at least for sometime.

This is a poor decision from Mr President. I pray no IOC takes that road with Buhari.

2000 years ago, a new way of life was born. A way of agape love, simplicity, righteousness and truth. A way of imitating Jesus Christ who suffered to redeem mankind from the power of death. A way of life introduced to us by unselfish missionaries from Europe. This way of life which is called Christianity today is under treat in Nigeria. It is gradually losing it’s value and taste as a result of some negative attitudes of the believers. Let me quickly identify 10 ways Nigerian Christians are killing Christianity but don’t know.

1. False Prophesy: Simply put, any prophesy that did not eventually come to pass is a false prophesy. Many Christian leaders in the country are fond of making predictions out of their own imaginations or dreams claiming they were revelations from God. Failure of such prophesies makes caricature of Christianity.

2. Hypocrisy: This is the worst killer. Majority of Nigerian Christians are hypocrites. Some pastors, reverend fathers, bishops and so on give sound preaching but don’t live by their words. They do opposite of what they preach. Also, our Christian politicians are not Christ-like in their leadership. How can a Christian governor owe workers and pensioners for over six months even after the federal government has released bailout funds. They still go to church on Sundays to raise their hands up in praise and worship. Church ceiling fan will cut off such hands one day.

3. Mixing Christianity with paganism: Reading Zodiac signs, osu caste system, animal and human sacrifices and other superstitious practices are still rampant despite the numerous churches in the nooks and crannies of the country. Some Christians would even go to any length to defend such practices in the name of preserving their culture and tradition. What about Christians including pastors who patronize native doctors? Some use charms to perform signs and wonders and to win souls for their churches. Some belong to occult societies and still go to church. It is very common in Nigeria to see someone who is both a member of a Christian denomination and Ogboni confraternity or any other evil cult. This is destroying the Christian faith.

4. 'Men of God' milking their shepherds while living ostentatiously: Our pastors are cruising expensive cars, acquiring private jets and living in multimillion naira mansions while majority of their followers live in poverty. No wonder they lay too much emphasis on paying of tithes and seed sowing. They lick the asses of corrupt politicians instead of telling them the truth point-blank. This lifestyle is gradually killing the credibility of the Christian faith.
5. Fornication receiving little or no condemnation compared to other sexual sins: Sometimes I wonder if gays and lesbians will go to a hotter part of hell fire than fornicators and adulterers. Boyfriend and girlfriend relationship is on the increase among the Christian youths. Baby mamas are now celebrated. Pre-marital sex is no longer viewed as a taboo. It is very common to hear of a Christian thanking God for delivering him from the spirit of masturbation while the person is still a fornicator. This is self-deception and a distortion of Christianity which strictly condemns all sexual immoralities.

6. Praying and wishing evil for their enemies: Christ, who Christians claim to follow, taught them to love and pray for their enemies. On the contrary, Nigerian Christians hate and pray for the death of their enemies. “Die by fire”, “holy ghost fire them” and so on are common prayers in many churches today. Judging our enemies and wishing them dead is fake Christianity.

7. Lack of charity: When last as a Christian did you help the poor or someone in need without looking for something in return? Many Christians show less concern for the less privileged. They show more interest in tithing and seed sowing for their progress forgetting that agape love is the most important thing in the Christian faith.

8. Associating God with prosperity: Nowadays, if you are rich, it means that God is with you. Poverty is seen as a curse. Most churches now preach prosperity more than salvation. The rich are being celebrated as those favoured by God. This stupid mentality promotes corruption and is gradually killing Christianity in our country.

9 Weird church adverts and programs: Just in the name of attracting members, many churches have devised somewhat weird means of seducing people to their church services. Some use popular celebrities to draw crowds to their churches. For instance, of what spiritual value is it to feature Terry G, Mama G, Wizkid, I Go Dye and so on in a Christian program? Some churches also use funny posters and attractive themes to lure people to their church. I have seen church posters with themes like ‘miracle extravaganza’, ‘prison break’, ‘auntie wetin I do you’, ‘who tie the goat’ and so on. This makes Christianity look like a joke.

10. Denominations fighting one another: Some Christian denominations believe that they are the genuine Christians and members of other Christian denominations would all go to hell. They fight one another with hate words and sometimes the fight goes physical. Instead of thinking of ways to dialogue and unite, more Christian denominations are being created. Sometimes, I begin to wonder if there are more than one Jesus Christ.
Christianity in Africa is a huge joke wonder why it took you so long to figure it out

I think a good lesson to learn here is to pay attention to our cars, especially tires and to drive at a controlled speed. While we wait and push the government to fix the road and provide other services. There are things only we can do for ourselves.

There are already enough dangers on our road than for us to add more complication. Obeying simple car safety rules is also critical so that if an accident happens, we would have at least reduced the chance of death as much as we can.

I learn this from a Road Safety officer. The higher your speed, the higher the chance of death. 110km/h is the most reasonable to maintain. When travelling I always maintain a 110km/h speed no matter how smooth and clear the road is. I leave nothing to chance.

Also, using a belt is a must! As much as possible, avoid situations where you or anyone have to not use the seat belt.

Lastly, patience and self-restrain is key.
When Nigerians hardly use cruise control, how do you expect them to maintain a steady velocity? this minister wont be the last, trust me on that!
Politics › Re: What Nigeria Must Learn From The Death Of James Ocholi SAN - CramJones by jpphilips(m): 10:01am On Mar 07, 2016
cramjones:
It was with a heavy heart that I heard about the death of Minister Ocholi and family. It is indeed a tragic news to his immediate family, the Federal Executive Council, the APC-led government, and most especially, the people of Nigeria who lost a first class asset. He would surely be missed.

Beyond Minister Ocholi's death, what many Nigerians did not know was that on the same day more than 100 other people died as a result of car crashes in Nigeria. Using the World Health Organization's recent data, Nigeria has one of the worst road traffic safety record, ranking 149th out of 184 countries studied by the World Health Organization. Why is this so? And what can we do to reduce these fatalities? We can certainly do a lot more to improve safety on our roads. While acknowledging that we all need to play our parts by wearing seat belts, driving within speed limits, obeying traffic signs etc. I would want to point out the most expedient commonsense things the Nigerian government must do to keep all of us safe and reduce this abysmal record.

1. Simple - Fix the roads! It seems to me from the narration about James Ocholi's case, there was a tire burst which led the SUV to somersault. There are many "death traps" on our roads. We have been relegated to being called "expert drivers" only if we develop techniques to dodge pot holes at high speed! I drove from Jos to Abuja recently and saw a Vetra sedan car who had just passed our SUV slip into a pot hole swerved off the road and caught fire. All passengers in the car, numbering about four were tragically burnt to ashes. It was one of the most horrific sights I have seen. It is no fluke that countries in the Western Hemisphere averages 6 per 100,000 fatalities and we stand at about 618 per 100,000 fatalities attributable to road crashes. To digress a bit, maternal mortality in Nigeria is same number as road fatalities, that is about 600 deaths per 100,000 live births, however, that is story for another day. If our government constantly fail to fix our highways, expand them and enforce traffic rules on its usage, the numbers would only go up, as population increases.

2. Paramedics/Road side emergency response: An image that tells the whole story, was the horrific image of Minister Ocholi's body covered with leaves. Most times during accidents like this all you see is a crowd gathered, with their hands on their heads muttering things like "Jesus!" "Chineke!" "This life!", others get busy with fanning the victims of the accidents. Some even get themselves entangled with the accident victims getting stained with their blood and carrying them carelessly sometimes even inadvertently severing a fractured C4 or C5 spine and killing the victim. My point is, we don't even have a clue of what first aid it. One would have thought that with the Boko Haram insurgency, the government would have created a program to deal with bomb and road fatalities. None of that exists. There is just nothing. According to the American Society for Orthopedic and Trauma Surgeons, over 50% of road traffic accident victims can survive if they get medical attention between 7 - 10 minutes. Are FRCS trained in advanced trauma and life support? Do their vehicles have facilities for emergency transfusions, minor surgical procedures on sight etc? This must change. And if the Buhari government and the Minister of Health seeks to gain any mileage in the CHANGE agenda, Minister Ocholi's death should at least spur some form of political will to change the status quo.

3. Hospitals: It was said that the Minister's wife who was in critical condition, and was rushed to the near by hospital, called Doka Hospital. As someone described the hospital to me, "that hospital is a S***t hole, it is worse than a refuse bin". We are good in building new buildings, but bad with building systems. The state of our health care is so dysfunctional, that even if you go to a hospital the broken system either do not even have any capacity whatsoever to help, some who have very little capacity, drive their patients away in the name of referrals. A survey done just last year by USAID on 15 Nigerian teaching hospitals, showed that none had defibrillators in their casualty departments. We must again reexamine how we ought to build a working health care system. Granted, some can afford to fly to Germany, and would careless about our hospitals, however, Minister Ocholi's wife death reminds us that in medicine, some things cannot wait. It needs urgent, emergent care. A 6 hour air ambulance flight to Germany cannot save at that point.

I wish the Ocholi family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss, and I hope the Government of President Mohammadu Buhari will learn a thing or two from this traggic event.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

-CramJones
@CramJones, FRSC does not have an accident Investigation Bureau, if they did, the best in the world will not come up with the tire claptrap in less than 24hrs.
Do you have any idea how long it takes to reproduce an accident scene? yet you bought the nonsense spewed by FRSC who perhaps drew the conclusion based on a burst tire on site. A roll over vehicle is exposed to sharp debris that can puncture the tire, it doesn't mean that a burst tire caused the accident.
Mere looking at the pictures, the curtain side airbag deployed from the secondary node which is a fail safe for SRS systems the only thing that would cause that is that some occupants were not wearing seat belts, Ocholi's lifeless body in the bush support that theory. Else he would be strapped to his seat inside with perhaps major neck injuries due to the roof cave in.
It is unclear what caused the accident should be the right narrative, the so called FRSC has neither the expertize nor resources to determine the cause of an accident in such short notice.

Speed should be the first culprit in this case.

People like you make the outside world think Nigerians are goats.

It's hard not to make fun of Buhari everyday, with all the comedy of errors emanating from his leadership and pronouncements.

For example, while Buhari is cooling off in the luxurious comforts of a Saudi palace, he has sold the bogey to his zombies that he intends to influence the Saudis to stabilize oil prices.

Of course, he and his propagandists are banking on the fact that Nigerians, especially the APC Nigerians, do not read current events.

Yesterday, for example, while Buhari is cooling off in the luxurious comforts of a Saudi place, the Saudis announced that they are preparing themselves for and can live with $20 per barrel oil.

And then today, Saudi oil minister Al-Naimi just announced moments ago that they are RULING OUT any cuts in supply of oil.

So, we are, once again, forced to ask:
Are Buhari and his advisers that naive to think that they can convince or jawbone the Saudis into an oil cut?

What exactly is the true purpose of Buhari's week long trip to Saudi Arabia, given that we do have an oil minister, Kachikwu, whose job it is to represent Nigeria's oil interests ?
First and foremost you are misinformed, I will take it easy with you because at least you did some reading before you adopted a position unlike the other useless critics of Buhari.

Saudi Arabia told the world that they can survive below $20/bbl I equally believed them because they claim to have amassed a whooping $780b
in reserves when the going was good. In the middle east such propaganda is always necessary to keep adversaries at bay.

The war in Yemen is feeding on that same reserve abi? what we found out later about Saudi was shocking.

Are you aware that the same Saudi that claimed he can survive below $20/bbl is running a $98b budget deficit according to the Guardian, does it add up?
read here
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/dec/28/saudi-arabia-spending-cuts-oil-prices-budget-deficit

If Nigeria who didn't save is having a 2.2T budget deficit yet a Saudi that amassed over $700b is having a $98b deficit something doesn't add up.

Are you aware that Saudi has cut down most of their subsidies for this 2016 fiscal year? read here

http://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Saudi-Arabia-Cuts-Subsidies-As-Budget-Deficit-Soars.html

Are you aware that Saudi hiked fuel prices to be able to raise money from her citizens?

http://www.wsj.com/articles/saudi-arabia-announces-2016-budget-1451312691

In the face of these obvious realities, are you still in doubt that the Kingdom is not healthy economically? perhaps that was why they ran to Russia to secure the best OPEC - Non OPEC deal, one of its kind in 15yrs, apparently that deal must have compelled Buhari to go to Saudi to catch into that deal.

You must understand that ALL oil producers minus Norway are hurt just like Nigeria, any favorable deal will be in everyone's interest ,forget Saudi's gra gra, that is how they survive in the middle east, if Saudi gives the impression they are broke, his enemies in Tehran and Saan'a will be more emboldened.
Remember when Saddam was accused of having a WMD, he actually accepted he had it just to look tough for Iran, that is the only way to survive in the middle east.

For your info, Kachikwu is on the Saudi entourage.
Politics › Re: Buhari & Saudi King Abdul Meet,Nigeria,Saudi Arabia Commit To Raising Oil Price by jpphilips(m):
Emekamex:
This is just mere rhetorics, Saudi Arabia wont cut down oil production unless the USA, Iran and Russia do likewise, as these are their major competitors in the global market share.

Convincing these four nations to cut down production is almost impossible at this time as Iran and USA will not likely do this. Instead of still focusing on oil, why cant Buhari invest more time and effort in our agricultural and mining sector.

This is the time and our only chance of diversification; Mr President, dont waste this opportunity to get things right.
why dont you just follow the news to educate yourself, nobody is considering a deliberate production cut, that will be counter productive, the low prices can force you to cut production, most expensive fields in the US are shut down leading to an 80,000bbls off their production.

Iran is not a major player at the moment so it is inconsequential what iran does, Iran has the capacity to take his number 7 spot in the world but those fields have not been operational for years, oil fields are no boreholes, it will take time before Iran asserts any influence.

Saudi, Russia and venezuela have agreed to a "production freeze" that is a huge deal coming from 2,3 and 12 spots, now the Nigerian oil minister has shifted the OPEC timetable from June to March which will see an early implementation of that deal.

All Nigeria needs do is to convince Saudi not to go solo with the deal rather make it an OPEC agenda in the coming meeting, that will bring on board 13 countries at various spots, with russia on the side of OPEC, OPEC influence will grow beyond its current 40%, should more countries agree to the deal, that will see that number grow significantly.
The news of such alliance alone will set wall street on fire and oil price will be better for it, I hope you are aware that since Russia agreed to a production freeze with Saudi alone, oil has seen a 7% increase in price, extrapolate what will happen if the 13 OPEC nations plus any other non OPEC they can convince?

It is a lobby thing, try to get as much countries as you can on board, so when Mr president jets around, it is not without purpose.

"Production Freeze" refers to the last production date without a surplus, that date will be adopted by member states as statutory OPEC quota,
member countries are expected to maintain that production for a time frame or just halt production for a while, the former is a more realistic strategy in our current reality.

"Production cut" refers to downgrading production over time, that strategy worked in the past but it has become obsolete because a non OPEC member is at the number 1 spot, once you do that, kiss your market share goodbye and no producer want that to happen.
secondly, OPEC's control is just 40% of the world's output hence their influence on the global scale has waned.

You mentioned Agricultural investment, why will Buhari do that? is it an area of competitive advantage for Nigeria? most of our Agro exports are purchased by Nigerians abroad, that is no market penetration that is why Agro export has remained low for decades.
Nigeria is under EU sanctions on Agro export yet you advise Buhari to invest there, are you for real? I can see some desperation for this man to fail.

Can your Agricultural produce penetrate the American market? where your seedlings are gonna face competition with genetically modified seedlings? do you have that capacity? your competitors have genetically modified their seedlings such that they have all weather supply, how are you going to maintain a market share when you lack such capacity? do you know how long it took others in research and investment before they got there?
why will you invest where you are on a serious disadvantage?

In my opinion, our focus on Agriculture should be for self sufficiency, if we have excess rice, it may discourage rice imports which will relieve FOREX pressure in the long run not the stup!d export ideas people are branding about.

A full boneless chicken in the US is around $5.98, if you tone it down to our full bone chicken with natural weight, it should retail around $1.25 ie 248.75naira (official rate), this amount is not the true price of chicken in the US but that is what people will pay, somewhere along the line in the chicken production chain, the farmer has enjoyed some subsidies to be able to sell at that price.
How can you ask Buhari to make investments that will compete with the US and Uk government subsidy?

The drugs alone to raise chicken in Africa has exceeded the 248naira you wish to gain, what about other factors of production and freight?

I agree with mining but ask yourself, how many of our solid minerals are competitive in the international market, what is the quality of Nigeria's copper, Iron ore, cobalt and Tin compared to the standard that rakes in good bucks? have you bothered to find that out?
where you can point to a few solid minerals that is competitive out there, where is the money to invest?
we saw a 6.08T budget that has over 1t debt servicing and a 2.2T deficit, where is the money I ask? Have you priced a crusher lately in the international market?
Should Buhari increase VAT to 20% to raise that money, will you be happy?

I tell you what, majority of buhari's critics are extremely lame, they are failures in their various private endeavour that is precisely why they criticize absent sense.

Look at Prof Pat Utomi's s!lly criticism of buhari's no devaluation policy, instead of telling Nigerians that he has Nigerian bonds which a devaluation will skyrocket his interest rate, he was talking trash on TV, I believe the current $ price will make him look like a goat of economics after predicting over 500naira against the $ while claiming that Buhari has secretly devalued the naira.

Enough of all the lame criticisms absent substance, we voted for a 4 year deal, after that we will assess his progress report, that is what sane people do, Nigerians must not prove to the world that they are too dumb for democracy. .

A man must be allowed to take a test before you pronounce fail or pass, Mr president has not even arrived the test venue yet Nigerians are pre empting his test score, where is the wisdom in that?
